Called him out on giving bad advice to newbies regarding wallet safekeeping. He didn't want to have a discussion, because I had actual arguments, so he just decided to block me and hide my replies to him.

Do you mean "wallet.dat" (Bitcoin core) or hardware wallets?

Hardware wallets are such a tempting platform for deliberate security design flaws, also where safety features against user mistakes can be abused. You need to trust the people behind the design, trust the factory producing it, and even if you design your own hardware completely you need to security review any mass produced chips used. There are lots of trolls, wallet brand shills and genuine victims out there, all in a mix, so maybe he took the "ten foot pole" approach.

To all people new in crypto/trading.

You should not trade before you can answer this correctly:

A man buys a goat for 60.
Then he sells it for 70.
Later, he buys that goat back for 80.
Then, he sells it again for 90.

How much profit did he make?

I think so far the orchestrated smear campaign against Bitcoin is mainly from western countries, China wrote a recommendation/warning that was deliberately modified by western mainstream media (Reuters quoted all over), to create FUD. What Elon tweeted earlier was part of the same effort, my theory is that he was cornered to write that shit, or felt like his attempts to impose control over the Bitcoin development community failed so he had to vent that frustration. Then the IRS news...what's next?

BTW (seriously now): I have a Chinese friend who told me that a friend of his was found dead in his home. He had been on a strict noodle-only diet for 1 month. Sudden death.

MSG overdose? Here in Bangkok my favorite is Mama noodles (Tom Yum flavor), spicy and tasty.

More coordinated bullshit...

Some guys  don't have no money left because they blew their whole wadd at supra $56k

#justsaying

I remember seeing a C64 last time buying, don't mind admitting mistakes, it felt good at the time being all in.

This is awesome.

It's not possible to make a gif of the whole thing and post it (too large) but I love this part:

Yes, awesome, just replace the MTGOX car passing by early on with a train wreck on fire, which makes the protagonist ooze smoke for the rest of his walk.

So, how's it going everyone?

I feel like shit, but going through this without selling was an important test of character.
252  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 19, 2021, 01:54:22 PM
Honestly, I think this is just a temporary shake-off.

My bet is, in the coming months we'll slowly creep up towards all time highs again before blasting off to $100k+ in 2022

I like your bet, but have another theory; we will test deeper regions before this is over, but after that Bitcoin will recover faster than ever before, and reaching $100k within a couple of months, perhaps less time.

I wonder if we will test 4 digits before this is over.

Shut up

Alright, I deserved that. Lets think positive.

Felt a bit a weird at first, but starting to enjoy it. Spank me with deeper dips, please.

I'm just mesmerised watching it all burn, oooooh....

Exciting times...

Thinking of a proper analogy; an airliner having an engine on fire with many passengers heading for the exits (FUD climax), then slowly realizing jumping without a parachute at 38 000 feet is probably a bad idea (selling at huge loss), especially with an incoming asteroid bound for earth (hyperinflation), lets calm down and deal with the fire instead (buy at dip and bounce).

So I left a comment on the BBC article today saying I don't believe the reported inflation figures at all (suppossedly less than 2% per annum they are indicating).
Especially if we consider the increase in house prices (8% in the UK per annum). Council tax increases on average in the UK at 4.3% I also indicated locally you can see changes such as my barbers putting his prices with 25%. He has too. On top of that to pay for the pandemic we are left with tax bands that are not going to increase on year to year along with these false inflation numbers so you are only going to get poorer even if you get 5% ish pay increase (more than on average).

The typical imbecile replies:

- WeLl YoU cAn LoOk Up ThE fIgUrEs InStEaD oF mAkInG iLl InFoRmEd AsSuMpTiOns
- WeLl I hAvE sPeNt LeSs DuRiNg ThE pAnDeMiC aNd NoW cUt My OwN hAiR

People have no clue. Things are going to get much, much worse.

Utter morons who can't see what is in front of them.
1.5% inflation?! GTFOH! Nearer 10x!

I think the 2% inflation is based on a selective calculation, whatever brings the lowest number. Meanwhile price indicators are deliberately obfuscated where possible.

Perhaps a bit wild, but I also believe the gold market is manipulated; the country based reserves are sold over and over "on paper" (no physical gold involved) to keep prices down, all done through financial constructs. Feel free to convince me otherwise, it would actually make me happy if proven wrong here.

Looks like the mainstream media is now fully utilized in the Bitcoin lies and FUD spreading, someone high up wants cheap BTC, and they are running out of time. I see the current rate as an indicator how gullible people in general are, and surprisingly many seem to fall for it. Hook, line and sinker.
259  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 18, 2021, 04:05:36 PM

They didn't (and can't) ban anything. Those associations just issued a document, basically giving their own opinion. This FUD news is misleading and translated incorrectly.

Read (or translate) #2 there: https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/Zpl0MWesUp2E8R23fNJf_g

Funny how people panic sell BTC when this yearly China FUD pops up. Funny how BTC also pumps after this FUD.

Reuters doing propaganda, I assume. Looks like a warning/recommendation about hype to me.

This is probably out of place in the WO thread (might feel unprofessional for those who like to stay emotionally detached from their commodities).

Bitcoin is the future regardless if it is valued at USD $1 or $100,000. This is a fully developed world wide system which allows anyone to have a wallet, to be their own bank with access to every transaction ever made, stored securely in an immutable blockchain, and completely independent from any banking or regulation system.

Personally I want to support Bitcoin as a system, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, owning BTC is part of that. For those of you who are too daft to see the potential, or too shortsighted due to greed in their speculation schemes, then by all means sell now.

Bitcoin is a major invention; what the printing press did by spreading the written word, what the internet did to connect all of us, this is the technology to replace our banks and currencies eventually. In the meantime there will be a lot of friction from powerful people, especially from those involved in our old financial institutions, it's been a battle since Bitcoin started in 2009.

I don't see anything wrong or out of place by such a statement... and maybe part of the key of your point is that some of these matters take a while.. and I would also like to say that bitcoin is successful as fuck, like you seem to suggest, even if its price is quite low (such as $1), but I really doubt that it's price is going to be going to such low levels, even if all of the governments were to make it illegal (which is hardly a game theory that anyone with even half a brain should expect to even be within reasonable possibilities - even long shot possibilities).

No, I don't believe BTC will go that low either. The "out of place" part was about protecting what you like even when it goes against speculation strategies, holding is a tactic, especially during Bitcoin smear campaigns.
