21  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 19, 2022, 09:49:54 AM
TBH, I'm getting tired of hearing about these third world countries claiming they're getting into Bitcoin, but then not really doing anything. And by 'anything', I mean more than just talking about it or just making it a legal currency. I want to see them buy bitcoin as a reserve asset by the tens of billions! Piss or get off the pot! Drain every exchange dry!

I share your frustration, and appreciate the negative tone. We need more adoption and less talk about it. However, this is the kind of news I like to read and discuss in this thread, it's relevant.

While trying to be optimistic and perhaps a tad bit delusional, I'm waiting for that crucial moment when Bitcoin price breaks free from the "black hole stonk market" and takes off on its own merit. I think this will happen gradually as the masses stop chewing the misinformation (propaganda) and start making the right moves, not necessarily because they are smart, but because Bitcoin will be one of the few lifeboats around when the hyperinflation takes off. The sooner the adoption happens, the better off the world will be. If countries do this as a national effort to mitigate complete collapse of their economy, even better.

speaking of pants.. anyone feeling robbed, recently?

I feel robbed of a future, or at least it looks pretty dark now. Tired of the masses not realizing a good thing like Bitcoin when it's right in front of them, even during hyperinflation (facepalm), and then more idiots begging for NATO hot war with Russia.

The lesson should not be that you were lucky, but instead, learn how to NOT have to fuck around with having to depend upon luck.. or at least not too much luck.

Really good advice, and something I struggle with sometimes, live and learn.

Gun, knife, poison... suggestions?  Self-immolation is cool hot.

What's the hurry? It will happen to all of us eventually. Take a step back and evaluate worst case in your situation, make a plan which involve as little risk as possible, aim low.

It is seeming as if it may well be better to put those covenants/smart contracts on second or third layer of bitcoin rather than on the base layer.

Exactly this, anything like BIP 119 should be in a higher layer, maybe even on top of Lightning in the current framework. I think the reason Bitcoin is king is in part due to its solid foundation development wise, core needs to be minimal and secure, lets keep it that way.

Yeah, we cant put fungibility on the base layer but sure lets throw a attack vector on there so the scammers can run shitcoin P&D's all day.

Agreed, one of the risks with BIP 119 is the potential for blacklisted coins, that would make Bitcoin less fungible, this is a bad idea, especially at the core level.

Checking the 15 minute chart, looks like a dead cat without the bounce part, it just died.

The BIP 119 ordeal doesn't help either. I'm against smart contracts support in Bitcoin, don't want Bitcoin turning into Ethereum with all that entails. I'm fairly optimistic BIP 119 will be rejected eventually, but it's going to get worse before it gets better.

As of writing this Bitcoin fell off another cliff, from mid 36k down towards 35k USD.

$39000!

ChartBuddy brought that rocket down, it's a dud.

I read rich assholes some people care about commenting about Bitcoin being worthless, that's a bullish signal to me, means they want it lower so they can invest.

Can we rename the "fear & greed index" to "ignorance & competence index"?

It seems more relevant to call the current situation "extreme ignorance".

bitcoin is down steeply again today 6.25%...with most other markets following as continued worries about inflation and the ongoing war in Ukraine mount

In a world where logic makes sense the "worries about inflation" should mean buying (more) Bitcoin, but somehow that doesn't happen, perhaps due to the fears of WW3 being overwhelming.

Fuck CBDCs and the pumping of them... especially in this thread.

CBDCs should be treated like a shitcoin as far as this thread is concerned...

I think CBDCs are worse than the majority of shitcoins regarding fungibility, dystopian control by design, so what would be a proper name for this?

govcoin (Bad suggestion, people might confuse "gov" with something positive.)
1984coin (Not shitty enough, and confuse illiterate.)
pedocoin (Seems to be a common disorder among those in power truly benefiting from such coin.)

****coin

Help me fill out the "****" here, need a catchy one.

I propose panopticoin.

This is great....but riddle me this; if you are a person buying an Alexa (or similar device), even after realizing that the constant recording loop must be sent to a cloud server somewhere because the hardware doesn't have the CPU power or storage space to deal with the trigger word detection on its own, would you really think panopticon is a bad idea?

I think PGC is a more repulsive term. And some curious soul might ask what is a PGC? Well then you explain: Pedofile Government Coin  , and that should immediately trigger a cancel culture movement against it.
And future coins that will be classified in that category will be like a radioactive thing that no one would want to touch or support.

Totally agree, the moniker needs to be inherently discouraging.

Maybe we can have a poll to let people vote after getting more suggestions?

I am Tyrannical . So I will start using it immediately and tell all my friends that I know that own a PGC coin. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Fork off.  Wink

bendovercoin
yourefuckedcoin

I think 'bendovercoin' is good because it somehow combines "bootlicker" with pain well deserved (ran out of merits again).

Here are some of the things they will say are reasons CDBCs are superior:

  • Lost or stolen CDBCs can be replaced without cost
  • Stolen CDBCs can be cancelled and be made unusable or even made to disappear.
  • CDBCs retain the central authority of the central banks
  • CDBCs can have programmed interest rates, including negative interest rates
  • CDBCs can be locked to an individual identity
  • CDBCs can be tracked at a granular level
  • Terrorists and other criminals can be stopped from being able to use their money (as well as protesters the bankers do not like etc)

Lightning constructs on top of Bitcoin can be designed to offer some of this functionality (at least the non-dystopian ones), no need for pedo.gov.coin (CBDC).

So why isn't it flying off the handle as we seem to stand on the precipice of World War 3?

...prolly 'cuz we're nowhere near WW3 yet.

I think Bitcoin mainstream adoption rate is increasing due to its "lifeboat" properties, if this assumption is correct we will see an upward trend even during serious threat.

8 March 2022 will remembered when losing my best friend.

Losing friends suck, especially when they die, remembering the moments with them helps even if painful at first. (I don't know you personally but can relate.)
