1  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I created a Crypto Exchange search tool and more - Great for beginners! on: October 18, 2018, 12:39:01 AM

I  created an easy to use tool for anyone wanting to buy Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Check it out here https://theycalitcrypto.com

Just plugin your payment method, country + coin you want and it will suggest several exchanges that fit your criteria.

Any feedback is much appreciated!

Other features:

It's simple but well designed. I like your own way of giving reviews about some of the exchanges, teaching how to use it step by step. It's very helpful for new users who are looking to know how the whole process works in a simpler language.
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What a newbie can do to popularize bitcoin? on: October 17, 2018, 10:33:44 PM

First:I want you to come with ideas what a newbie can do to help and popularize bitcoin.Use your imagination and don't copy the suggestions before your post.

It's up to us to bring the logo into people subconscious. My idea would be to make a massive global campaign to spread a positive image. Many people in my country knows Bitcoin as rich's people currency. This happens because the only news that are delivered through TV are about the rise on the price and people are not well informed about the possibility that, for example, they don't need to buy an entire bitcoin . Also a false currency that has caused people to lose more than 250 millions.
What I want to say is, we need to spread a positive image, globally. We should think in growing the community in other languages, allow people to share the posts from Bitcointalk in any platform.

Second:  In addition I want to know what is your mission here in the forum. Just a few words, but let them be honest.
That's all. Good luck.

My main purpose here is to understand the problems users have with Bounty campaigns, how it could be improved.
As my idea is to become a Bounty manager, I want to understand the weaknesses from the existing campaigns and make it more reliable and narrow it  in order to have users who are really interested in grow the community instead of hunters  and learn more about different topics.
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is a currency ? on: October 17, 2018, 09:16:21 PM
The definition of currency varies from country to country, and also on the era (the definition of currency in 1920 is different to what it is now). And, if you look at a 'traditional' definition of currency, bitcoin and altcoins do not satisfy all requirements

The definition doesn't vary, it's a system of money which has different values when exchanged from country to country, except for cryptocurrency that are not tied to any country.
When you say:  "bitcoin and altcoins do not satisfy all requirements"
They are decentralised, which differs them from traditional money but still denominated as currency
4  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Improvements in Bounty Campaigns on: October 17, 2018, 08:45:06 PM
The bounty campaigns have changed right now. The main problems are hunters not getting profitable rewards, too many scam projects, a large number of participants, hunters cheating and spamming etc.

The question is : What would you change or might add to make it more reliable or interesting?

1. Add rank, merit requirements to participate in bounty campaigns.
2. Remove the social media reposting campaigns. (Most hunters are cheating with fake followers, friends with social media profiles and spamming because those activities are not a good thing for the project)
3. Accept high-quality articles, videos, infographics. (Please let them share those activities from social media)
4. Make payments weekly or monthly via bitcoin or ethereum. (Because payments via own tokens losing a large number of investors. We can see huge dump on after bounty distribution. The next thing is payments are guaranteed and bounty hunters know they are not wasting their time)
5. Add some rules for bounty managers.

I don't think bounty managers and project owners not going to follow this rules. Because of most scam projects are not going to pay with bitcoin or ethereum and they want flood spam posts about their projects. They only need to collect funds. I think bitcointalk have to change this to avoid scam ICOs.

You have many good points.

1. I really like the idea of getting rank for active participant, it would encourage and stimulate people to remain active on the campaign.
2. Reposting is one more way to grow the community and in my opinion is very effective. There are some apps where you can spot fake followers. It could be improved but IMO  should be kept in the bounty.

Hi Everyone!
I'm a Newbie here and I would love to hear some of your experiences with Bounty campaigns.  ( some examples )

6  Other / Beginners & Help / What is a currency ? on: October 13, 2018, 11:37:04 PM
For something to be defined as a currency, it need to meet the following criteria:

1. Fungibility
For a currency to be fungible,  its units has to be completely identical and interchangeable. For example, if you swap one US dollar for another, they are worth exactly the same amount of money.

The same applies to Bitcoin as an example, making it a fungible currency.

2. Shortage
For something to be considered a currency, is necessary a limited supply of it. Otherwise it would have no value.

Using gold as an example: If the amount of gold is limited ( and it is). There is a finite amount in the world, which gives it a value as a currency. Something similar happens with Bitcoin, only 21 million of them will ever be released, which gives Bitcoin its value. If anything, fiat currencies like the US dollar have the weakest amount of scarcity, because central banks can simply print more money when they see fit.

3. Durability
Because gold can withstand harsh weather conditions and there is no natural wear, we can rely on it to outlive us, which gives it its value. If we could not ensure whether our gold would still be around tomorrow, it wouldn’t have any value as a currency.
Cryptocurrencies are arguably the most durable currency of all. As long as the network they exist on survives, they’ll retain 100% of their value.

Given that the networks cryptocurrencies are stored on are decentralised, it would be almost impossible to destroy them, meaning their durability is essentially guaranteed.

4. Transferability
The purpose of a currency is to enable trade between people and the transfer of wealth from one entity to another.

5. Divisibility
Finally, a currency needs to be able to be broken down into smaller fractions or units.

One of the main reasons humanity moved away from trade and onto currencies is because it’s impossible to trade half a animal (especially if you want it to live!). However, if you only want half a dollar’s worth of something, you can just pay 50 cents for it. This is called divisibility. Cryptocurrencies are divisible too.

7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bounty Hunters ! Must read before join any bounty campaign. on: October 12, 2018, 09:45:48 PM
There are many valuable information.  I would encourage "hunters"to look deeply at the ICO's website and whitepaper before joining any Bounty campaign.

I partly disagree with this point:

Before join any bounty campaign, know the managers. He is well reputed or not. Check his past work how they are success. Try to avoid those aren't well reputed and who managed most of scam ICO.

I believe we have to look the whole picture : the TEAM. They must have a good mix of business and Tech people with a background and can deliver the project as promised.

9  Other / Beginners & Help / How common is it for an ICO to stop their sale? on: September 10, 2018, 08:51:40 PM
Recently came across a project that stopped their ICO, they stated that this is due to market conditions and will resume at some point but this date has not been defined.

My question for you is, how common is this? Is this a new trend that we are seeing because the community is becoming more cautious about investing in projects?

10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Infographic for new comers on: September 10, 2018, 08:21:43 PM
Love this idea of using infographics to help people learn, a lot of the most interesting content is text heavy unfortunately and so many people like to learn visually via pictures or videos.

I found these super simple infographics helpful when first learning about blockchains/cryptocurrencies.

11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I want to launch a website related to crypto..need suggestions on: September 05, 2018, 07:29:36 PM
As others mentioned above, there are several crypto related websites that are already doing a pretty good job. The question you have to ask yourself is what are you going to offer to the public that is different from the rest? Similar functionalities from other sites but in an easier-to-use way? Are you going to create it for the knowledgeable people in crypto or new people in crypto, or both?

To create a website you first need to understand what is your goal and then what is your scope. To ensure that along the line, during the creation of the site, you don't deviate from your main goal.
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Begging merits on: September 05, 2018, 07:16:39 PM
It's crazy to see how merits are there to reward quality content written, and people make it an objective to get merit instead of focusing on learning and actually contributing with meaningful info.

I understand the lack of merits can block you from growing your status, but again, you shouldn't make that your goal either, at least that is not what the platform was created for in the first place.

Good luck!
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best topic for newbie to gain merit on: September 05, 2018, 07:08:56 PM
I feel like earning merits it's a bit random. Just focus on learning and providing good quality information in the forum, and if someone considers your comment/post helpful and relevant you'll eventually get merit. I believe its contraproducente to be here focusing just on getting merit instead of learning about the crypto community and world.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Starting amount on: September 05, 2018, 07:00:23 PM
It will really depend on your finances. To start, use an amount of money that wouldn't affect you financially if you loose it.

Also, try to start with a small amount for "practice" and to understand how the process works. Before starting though, read about crypto currencies to understand this world better before you dive fully in!

Good luck Cheesy
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Member Introduction on: September 03, 2018, 08:53:32 PM
Welcome! You're not alone, there are several people just starting in the crypto world, and it's never too late Cheesy

Enjoy the journey and best of luck with your endeavors in this "new" world!
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reviewing an ICO's White Paper - What to look for? on: August 30, 2018, 10:24:22 PM
Kudos to wanting to learn as much as you can! The best protection against scams lies with the investors' due diligence.

There are many ways to figure out which projects are good and which projects are great.

For me personally, I will ask myself these questions first.

1) Will I use this product?
2) Am I interested to learn more?
3) Will it help bring Crypto or Blockchain to non-crypto investors/users?

Then, of course, we shall proceed with reading the actual whitepaper.

I will look out first:

1) The team
The experience of the team matters quite a lot. And where their true strengths lie. Just an example, Justin Sun is a fantastic marketing wizard and thus, he is able to secure these partnerships and create the hype for TRX. Vitalik Buterin is a technical wizard, with a figurehead like him, Ethereum has a strong technical advantage. That sort of things. Steve Jobs and Apple. Elon Musk and Tesla/SpaceX. Jack Ma and Alibaba. (Not advocating these companies. They are just examples).

2) If available, business model.
How will the project bring revenue and profits? During a bear market when ICO contributions like BTC and ETH lose value, how can a company sustain in the market? Revenue makes a company tick. Smiley

Hope this helps somehow! It is a long topic for sure.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! Super valuable info here Smiley

Wow, this is INCREDIBLE feedback! Thank you all so much for your contribution and ideas on this topic!
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Reviewing an ICO's White Paper - What to look for? on: August 30, 2018, 09:33:01 AM
When reviewing white papers from new ICOs, what do you pay the most attention to?

I am still learning, so not yet investing in ICOs, but I want to learn what are the most important things to look for in the white paper?

I have read a lot about how to spot scammers, so my question is more directed towards: How do I know is a good project?

Thank you all in advance!
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reading BitCoinTalk feeds best practices on: August 29, 2018, 08:07:35 PM
What is your strategy, if you have any? How do you ensure you get to read the best content posted in the platform?
you don't need a strategy for reading this forum Roll Eyes Shocked
just open the subforum that you're interest in, browse the first 2-3 pages and read the one you want to read
this is a discussion forum, there will be some good and bad posts Tongue
Good question. Nowadays it's getting more difficult to find content wirth to read. Bitcoin/Altcoin discussion, Trading, Economics boatds are full of spam mega threads and I often have to browse several pages to find interesting topics. This is why I rarely visit these boards. If I see discussion threads with hundreds of these threads replies - I don't visit it because I know that it will be just a waste of time to read it. I recommend to skip these topics.
I recommend to visit Bitcoin Technical Support, Development & Technical Discussion, Serious Discussion and Ivory Tower boards - there you can find a lot of content which is worth to read. Also, one of indicators of interesting topic - it was made by well known Bitcointalk member who has good knowledge in that sphere.
Hi everyone, as you can see I'm a newbie here and I'm still trying to figure out best practices for reading the best topics and feeds.

What is your strategy, if you have any? How do you ensure you get to read the best content posted in the platform?

Thanks in advance!

As you see everyone has a different opinion based on his experience. I was also wondering in the beginning how to find the interesting threads, now we are lucky to have the merit system and you can easily see the recent merited posts or other stats like the top merited threads for the last 120 days(?).
Other tactic is to follow some of the good forum members and check their post history.
For example browsing trough theymos's post history I find quite interesting topics and discussions, and if you want to be up to date with the current forum situation just check him every day Smiley

Wow, thank you all for your input! Super valuable, and as iasenko mentioned, everyone has a different "strategy" or way to go through the forums, which I find amazing. I guess I'll take onboard these suggestions and stick to the ones that I find the most valuable Smiley

Thanks again!
