42  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / [BOUNTY] We need HELP adding merged mining to Benjamins on: March 11, 2014, 04:54:24 PM
Here's the deal. We need to add merged mining to Benjamins. I know it will be a hard fork, which is the reason we are looking for outside help from someone smarter than us. From what we understand, it's not too hard to add merged mining. The only reason we are outsourcing it is due to the many pools and exchanges that need to update. We need it done right the first time and I'm just not confident enough with merged mining procedure to implement it myself

Benjamins is going on Paysha.com when they launch and we would like to ensure safe transactions with a secure network via merged mining. We have pools ready to update

We are offering a 10,000 BEN Bounty (little more than .25 BTC at today's super low price), but you must have both experience and a good reputation for not being shady. If you have no idea what BEN is, I'll quote the OP below

Thanks for taking a minute to read this and I really hope we can find someone reliable and trustworthy to help us out here

What is a Benjamin?

The United States one hundred-dollar bill ($100) is a denomination of United States currency featuring statesman, inventor, and diplomat Benjamin Franklin on the obverse of the bill. On the reverse of the banknote is an image of Independence Hall. The $100 bill is the largest denomination that has been printed since 1969, when the denominations of $500, $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000 were retired

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing says the average life of a $100 bill in circulation is 90 months (7.5 years) before it is replaced due to wear and tear. The bills are also commonly referred to as "Benjamins", in reference to the use of Benjamin Franklin's portrait on the denomination, or "C-Notes", based on the Roman numeral for 100. The bill is one of two denominations printed today that does not feature a President of the United States; the other is the $10 bill, featuring Alexander Hamilton. The time on the clock of Independence Hall on the reverse, according to the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, shows approximately 4:10 on the older contemporary notes and 10:30 on the series 2009A notes in 2013

On April 24, 2013, the Federal Reserve announced the new $100 bill would enter circulation on October 8, 2013. The new bill will cost 12.6 cents to produce and have a blue ribbon woven into the center of the currency with "100" and Liberty Bells, alternating, that appear when the bill is tilted

According to the Federal Reserve, more than two thirds of all $100 notes circulate outside of the United States, making it the most popular banknote

The Benjamins support team is comprised of several very talented individuals all working towards a common goal of providing a safe, secure, and easy transition for merchants from fiat-only businesses to accepting virtual currencies with just the click of a button. These members are located in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia, so most global timezones will be covered as far as support team being available for assistance. 8 blocks at normal (100 BEN) rewards were mined to sync up the nodes and the pool for launch

The Benjamins Merchant Services division is providing users, traders, and merchants alike with the option to easily integrate and customize our system into an already existing business or website. We will also provide live support to assist you or your business in the transition to the newest technology available for financial transactions. Let us bridge the gap between virtual currencies and those that don't know, yet. Benjamins have arrived. And they're here to stay

The Benjamins team has made it easier than ever to accept virtual currencies as payment. Instead of tracking down a programmer to integrate payments, you can just sign up with us and let our code do the work for you! Easily customizable buttons are available to fit your business and website style with only a few clicks! You can be accepting Benjamins TODAY. The Merchant Services will be launched when BEN has hit an exchange or two and a market price has been set

Benjamin himself will also provide an official mining pool within 48 hours of launch, as well as an ABE based Block Explorer for easy transaction tracking, both coming up at the same time. The reason we are launching with no pool is to prevent forks an get the block chain spread across multiple nodes rather than everyone putting their hashes into one place and screwing over solo miners. If anyone else wants to set up a pool before that, we have no problems with that at all and will include your link in this post

Live support is available to answer any questions you may have about Benjamins, or just virtual currencies in general. Not only will we provide these services to you, but we will also work with you to help get you the exposure you desire in the crypto currency community. Accept virtual currencies and take advantage of the newest technology available. We will provide the same service that CoinPayments provides, but specifically coded for Benjamins designed to coordinate with both the coin and website that will be launched in the next 48 hours with the pool, explorer, paper wallets, and other very useful services provided by the Benjamins development team

Benjamin Franklin has already been contacted via séance and approves of the choice for SHA over Scrypt. He finds electricity fascinating and wishes to conserve it for future generations by using efficient mining hardware

I just wanted to paste this great point from user Armis about security and trust being foremost in any good coin.

From thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=492776

My friend when btc catches a cold, litecoin get's pneumonia, most other coins are either dead or on life-support.

Trust is what enables the protocol to scale, without the trust mechanism only a few tech-heads around the world will use the protocol, via P2P, OT, and the like.

None of that is worth VC money, or attractive to associated service companies ... long story short, if the system wasn't created with built-in trust, isn't reinforced by trust, or trust cannot be guaranteed then it will never scale.

The BTC community, and by extension the whole cryptocurrency industry must prove that trust reasonably exists within the btc system for it to survive.

If done right, the cryptocurrency industry can produce TRILLIONAIRES not just millionaires, or billionaires.

He's right. It's going to go a LOT higher

Ben I gotta say I am liking your website being in Russian and Chinese as well, this gives good global penetrations for Benjamins.  And yet I find I cannot see the Chinese characters, they are unicode replacements.  I am not sure if that's a browser issue I need to look into it more because I think it's important to solicit the Chinese in this.  They also are big fans of Benjamin I heard.  His brand is big there.

Hmm okay I also want to build a fiatleak site but for Benjamins.  I need to email the fiatleak dude, that site is a lot of fun and seems fairly easy to build one that does what it does, anytime BTC is traded for BEN, a gong rings and a coin flies up.  Ha, I love fiatleak.  And a LOT of cryptocoin is going into China, and they also have some miners, and will have more miners, I bet.

I could probably get merged mining to work myself, but I would rather have someone who knows more than me to make sure it's done right. I will probably post a bounty if I can't find anyone who is confident enough

The reason is that it will be a fork. That means a mandatory upgrade and with all the pools and exchanges BEN is on, we need to make sure it's done right the first time

Would you guys prefer faster blocks and quicker difficulty adjustment or merged mining with BTC?

Merged mining would ensure the best network security, and is the route I would prefer, but we would need to find someone to help us put that in. I think it's the best solution to keep the coin supply where it should be, but also increase network hashrate and get it somewhat stable

How does this merged mining work? It is compatible with the pools?

Yea, you might have to do a few tweaks, but pools are capable of it. Basically you mine Bitcoin and the merged coin at the same time with the same hashpower

This would let the network do what it wants to do, but give it the needed hashpower to push forward without changing the coin itself. It's going to be the best option for the situation we are in. However, I will need to find someone that can do this right since it will be a fork and we have a lot of pools and exchanges to get updated

If anyone has any experience putting merged mining into an already launched SHA coin, please contact me

The software I use doesn't have merged mining capabilities...

You are still able to mine only Benjamins directly, even if we add merged mining

The biggest drawback is that people will mine BEN without caring about it and likely dump them right away. However, it's a small price to pay for us to piggyback on some BTC hash power and keep the network more secure than no merged mining

You guys aren't taking into account the several years of mining we would eliminate in the future if we shorten block times. That would essentially eliminate several years of mining for coins prior to just tx fees from the life of the coin. I think a shitty few months now is worth it to give the coin a few extra years of mining life

Prayer's suggestion was pretty good, though, but even still we are taking away a MINIMUM of 20% of the mining life of the coin if we do this

Just made it now and it will not be very active until the Paysha beta

Hi guys, I'm on Pitythepool! and seem to be building up hundreds of unconfirmed coins.  Any idea what's preventing them from becoming confirmed?

Slow blocks

An efficient ASIC with something like those tip bot things in that video would be sweet if all the coins were merge mined. Then Paysha could just do a pool for all 4 coins and have the miner/pos auto connect to that company's pool id

Prayer, that's not a bad suggestion, either. But by your numbers, we aren't that far off of it correcting itself in about a month

The price has nearly doubled since we said we didn't plan on a fork. Is that a sign that we did the right thing?
