881  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [POLL] Tradehill Lying About Bitcoin Affiliation With Ron Paul. Your opinion? on: July 27, 2011, 02:53:44 AM
Lol I think he meant that as an obvious joke to cash out BTC's through his service, and donate to Ron Paul via USD... No need to make a poll about this on the main forum...

Such an obvious joke they put in on their website?  https://www.tradehill.com/WithdrawOverview/BTC

Maybe the superpac would take them?  http://www.revolutionpac.com/

But yeah,  this thread title and action are more likely to do him more harm then good in the current legal climate.
884  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: namecoin on: July 23, 2011, 01:07:56 AM
Hi thanks. Well, I'm confused about namecoin because I don't know where they are supposed to show up. Do they show up in a seperate namecoin client? Am I supposed to have a seperate namecoin address for namecoins?

I try and run the namcoind but I don't get a GUI like the bitcoin one.

I've pointed my guiminer at coinotron, set up the worker like I am supposed to, and it connects and mines. Seems OK, but where do I see my namecoins?

Basic question, does mining namecoins just add to my bitcoin pile? That can't be right, there must be a difference.

I'm flummoxed.  Huh

Yes, they are seperate addresses.   You will need to tell the pool the address to send you namecoins to just like you have to do for bitcoins.

885  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: namecoin on: July 23, 2011, 12:43:21 AM
I would say if you are uncomfortable with the cli,   just use it enough to get a namecoin address out of it, and then use a pool just like you do for bitcoins.

I am currently using https://poolmunity.com  for some namecoin mining myself.
886  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dwolla's Fisync - Direct competition with Bitcoin on: July 23, 2011, 12:14:40 AM
I'm all for good competition, more quality options people have the better.

+1

It is competition in the same sense paypal is.   Seems a cheaper paypal by removing the cc options.   It does not have a lot of the properties bitcoin does,  and current has zero cross border possibilities,  so there is plenty of room for all three still.
887  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining Namecoins is now more profitable than Bitcoins on: July 20, 2011, 08:50:37 PM
Addendum:

You can also use pools if you prefer.

http://bitparking.com/pool
http://namebit.org/

Don't forget https://poolmunity.com/  as they let you easily switch between them.

Wanted a game on steam,  quick smooth transaction.
889  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] Steam game - Dungeons of Dredmor on: July 19, 2011, 01:06:02 AM
I will do it for 0.4 if we can do the deal today.
890  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] Un-wanted Gift Cards on: July 19, 2011, 12:54:53 AM
Thanks for the heads up, tsvekric!  I'll be in touch if I don't get too many offers over the next few days.

If you are willing to go through one extra step, I am offering Amazon gift certificates at below market rates.

See here.  I don't adjust the rate posted often, but will reprice to at least 20% below market when asked.

891  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Want 5BTC. Only have paypal. on: July 18, 2011, 08:28:34 AM
Every single thing sent through PayPal except mass payments can be reversed (and if you're shitty enough you could phone up the bank to cancel a 'fraudulent bank wire transfer).

All Paypal transactions to BTC are extremely risky for the seller. The vast majority of buyers are scammers.

If you want to build trust, trade your PP to Dwolla & make an escrow trade at btcrow.com so that neither party can be scammed.

Thanks for the info. Can I use dwolla in the uk?

I think you can buy usd denominated ukash in the uk?   If so I would be willing to do a trade for that.

Edit: Actually looks like they offer conversions services now also, so even if you can't, I still would be willing to do it, though it may take me a bit to work out the rates and I would need to charge a bit more probably to allow for that later.

+1 error, shipped motherboard promptly and it arrived and was as described.
893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Targeted Deflation Rate on: July 17, 2011, 02:39:11 AM
To clarify: the problem is inflationary risk faced by merchants who receive payment in bitcoin.

The proposal is to set aside some portion of sent money as a flow of insurance funds. In the event of inflation the flow of insurance funds is destroyed to reduce the money supply. In the event of deflation, the insurance monies are redistributed to miners as rewards for processing transactions.

That is a problem best solved with companies that will offer private insurance funds and other classic hedging solutions long in use in mutlicurrency trading.   There is no need to burden the currency itself and hence everyone with those costs.

Whether everyone should be forced to participate in an insurance pool or just those who choose to is open to debate. Insurance can be prohibitively expensive when it is elective. Where can I purchase forward bitcoin contracts in non trivial volumes now? How much does this insurance cost?  How do i know that the insurer won't pull a 2008 banking crisis and fail to pay? I don't think usable insurance for bitcoin will ever materialize without revamping the generation protocol. This in my view is an Achilles heel.

Forcing the costs on those who don't need it will make even more ventures prohibitively expensive,   also for most current ventures we are choosing to self insure, why should we lost that right?   bit-pay already is offering this type of service for merchants from what they say, and if you really need non trival amounts there is always lloyds of london.    You can also cross insure if you want as well.   You are never going to get rid of all the risk in life.    I also see the generation protocol as a potential failure point, but not for the reasons you do.  I see what you want to do as far worse then what we have now.

895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First airline ticket bought with bitcoin. on: July 17, 2011, 01:24:46 AM

Grats on the ticket purchase and the planned move.  What do you plan to do with  glbse?   Given how strict the investment laws are in the USA I hope you have plans for a smooth turnover to keep it running and  not just shut it down!
896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Using short-run coin generation rules to dampen exchange rate volatility on: July 16, 2011, 11:01:37 PM
Since bitcoins is meant to be its own currency,  it should not directly have any ties or pegs to any other currency.  And just which currency did you mean to peg it to?   Why that one?   Or if a basket of currencies,    what did you really solve , while making more issues by the peg?

Am I wrong in thinking it'd be more appropriate to ask what the pornography laws in Finland are like?

Internet != America.

Just saying.

Thats a point to consider,  but since it seems the server is in the USA that would give them more then enough to claim jurisdiction.
