2441  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: May 19, 2012, 04:06:12 AM
If luck is the explanation of the frequency of block discovery, then we are discovering 10% below what is possible on average. The below average discovery rate could indicate resource diversion, which has already been shown publicly to occur. You could say that "Luck" is how to explain away resource diversion.

However, P2Pool is open source - there's no closed server that could be secretly diverting hashes. Please, do audit the source. It's either a bug somewhere (which I've been trying like mad to find) or just really bad luck.

Regardless, its still worth it to mine with P2Pool!

How much does it cost to walk around and pick through everything? And do you know if they have any old computers? I could always use another c64 Smiley

2444  Economy / Services / [ANN] Mining Colocation - I'll maintain your FPGAs for 15% (GPUs in the future) on: May 19, 2012, 03:55:55 AM
I'm offering a mining proxy for FPGAs, and prospectively for full fledged GPU rigs.

I will maintain your:
Rigs    - 20% of coins mined Evaluating renting space with industrial grade power.
FPGAs - 15% of coins mined. I will provide a host, unless you would like to.

Your equipment will be stored in a secure location in an extremely safe neighborhood in Northern Idaho, where electricity rates are $0.07/kwh (http://www.kec.com/documents/rate_schedule_800_general_service_april_12.pdf)
Electricity is included, so my rates are irrelevant and here only if you are curious.

If you want to purchase your equipment and sent it directly to me, I will happily assemble and configure everything. Just provide the parts you'll need, such as risers and fans.

I will be offering contracts monthly, and for a maximum of six months per contract. You will pay shipping both ways.

I reserve the right to terminate operation with two weeks of notice, and return the hardware. In the event of an early termination I will cover shipping to the US.

Earnings will be rationed with commonplace mining software. FPGAs with MPBM.

I can also build your mining rig for free if you agree to a contract of two or more months and provide the parts necessary.
I will still build you a mining rig for free if I can mine with it for two weeks!

Questions, comments, and criticism are appreciated.

Thanks,
Garrett

Yup, its outside. Why pay to pump the heat out of my house (air conditioning) when I can let mother nature do it for me? Been like that for at least 8 months with no significant problems.
No rain?
Or just sheltered some other way? It looks precarious, but if it has worked that long there isn't any reason to change it.

Yeah, we got a carport. and the sides of it are closed off with weather-proof tarp, so its mostly shielded from the elements (wind/rain/snow/etc)

The bottom rig can slide out if I need to take it inside for maintenance, but otherwise it is tightly secured. The top one -could- be knocked over if someone really wanted to, but I'm really the only person that ever uses that entrance.
I admire the gonads it takes to leave computer hardware running outside, 24/7, even if it is under a shelter.

I'd be worried about:
- Hurricane-force rains
- High humidity
- Theft
- Nature's beasts (cats, etc)

But hey, if it works, it works!

I've always wanted to trying burying a computer underground, turned on and idling, just to see how long it would last.

It sounds like you live in a southeast suburbia. I bet he doesn't Tongue

Just switch the 5v(red) and 12v(yellow) cables to the molex connecter you're powering the board with.
