1463  Other / Off-topic / Re: Free Stanford U Cyptography Class - now thru October on: August 27, 2012, 11:47:58 PM
There are so many classes I want to take there but I have none of the prerequisites nor the time for them... I feel like ditching high school, taking GED test, and going to a university right now.
1464  Economy / Securities / Re: Motion Raised! Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive on [GLBSE] on: August 27, 2012, 09:07:25 PM
Shareholders: Where do you want to see Cognitive next?

I see a few options for us at the moment:

  • Expand FPGA infrastructure
         - BFL: If we choose to expand via BFL we are protected from BFL's ASICs, but we will suffer a long wait time.
         - Non-BFL: Here we are essentially banking against BFL delivering ASICs on time. These boards are delivered within a few weeks, but might take longer to pay off than we have time for.

  • Wait for ASICs
         - A few other companies are thought to be developing ASICs (I know of four including BFL and OpenASIC). A viable option is to wait it out.

  • GPUs
         - A common reaction here is "what?", but this is a decent choice in my opinion. GPU mining still produces the most return when looking at mh:$ ratio. Even when ASICs are released we can switch to Litecoin mining (which will likely be more profitable then than it is now) or even sell the hardware and regain most of the investment. The only downside to GPU mining is the massive electricity consumption. I would need to take out whatever the electricity costs from the GPU revenue (keeping in mind electricity is dirt cheap here at $0.07/kwh).

There will of course be a proper motion before investing in more hardware.

I'm always interested in what you have to say!

-Garrett

Edit: Keep in mind we have just over 100btc ready to go, which would be enough for us to buy a quad FPGA or a good GPU rig or two without issuing any more shares!

Huh Huh Huh

Why so low dividends? Any issue while mining? Maths simply do not match  Undecided

I typed this last night and forgot to post:

The BitMinter payout for last week did not go to the address I specified. I'm currently going back and forth with them but they keep insisting it was my error, which seems impossible. I'm only using them until I can move the Singles to a cgminer host where we have free reign over pools (hopefully tomorrow).

I'm going to keep fighting them until we get the coins!

30K is almost all the savings I have.

If you do this I, along with a mob of other financially sane people, will hunt you down and slap you.

Seriously though, I definitely support investing and growing your money, but make sure to stay diversified.

1470  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Lovlyn Mining Company on: August 27, 2012, 07:51:16 AM
IPO on GLBSE will be released on September 2nd at 9:00am Eastern time (-4:00)

This is a Bitcoin mining company. With the IPO we will be purchaseing 100 Spartain X6500 rev.3 FPGAs $580 each, 15 10 port USB hubs $16.95 each, 5 750watt psu $84.99 each, 120 mini-b USB cables $5.49 each, 25 Arctic Silver paste $9.99 each, shipping costs aprox. $250, and misc. mounting hardware/wire/anything that is needed to get the rig running $200. To make a total of $60,037.75 or estimating BTC at $12/BTC 5,003.14583BTC. The rig will get a garenteed 35.0 GHash. At the current difficulty that will be about 13BTC per day. Payouts will be made at the end of each week (Friday). You will make 1BTC per share. All shares will be paid-in-full in 210 weeks. The payouts will be proportional to the number of shares that you have or about .007BTC per week per security. We are releasing 10000 security's in the IPO. This offer will be one of many from this company. We plan to purchase BFL/ASIC rigs with the next offers.

Nick is a friend of mine, and he didn't talk to me about this at all before the post. Instead he asked to borrow 8btc for the GLBSE fee Tongue

As I understand he is going to join the Navy and be in boot camp within a few months. He has already asked me to take care of his one BFL Single while he's gone, so I haven't a clue what he's thinking here. I'm sorry I have to say this, but knowing him personally I have a feeling this will turn out badly.

1473  Economy / Speculation / Re: 376 918 Btc down to $1 on: August 25, 2012, 09:21:23 AM
Sure but all the bad press will hurt Bitcoin for a long time.

It will surely cause some commotion and distress, as would happen with any asset losing nine tenths its value, but Bitcoin is definitely more valuable than $21,000,000 so the true value per coin will always be above $1, and that's not even including USD inflation...
1474  Economy / Speculation / Re: 376 918 Btc down to $1 on: August 25, 2012, 08:51:16 AM
All it takes is 376,918 Btc to push price down to $1.25.
Below $1 is just panic.

What if Pirateat40 does just that.
What if that is in his interest to do so?
Maybe he is working on a competitor to Bitcoin ie another micropayment system or payment company.

That would men he would get plenty of dollars. Now he can buy all those cheap < $1 Bitcoins.
And thus give his interest rate with Bitcoins back to those who invested.
That would also mean he would kept his promise get rich doing so and make Bitcoin look like a joke.

The informed will buy while the emotional and panicked sell Smiley
1475  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: If I win the 10,000BTC, I have an idea for what to do with the money... on: August 25, 2012, 05:06:49 AM
It would be a very nice thing to do, but I'm afraid people could take it as a sort of spam, and it might bring a total negative effect on Bitcoin if people walk around saying they got the magazine "for free". This would turn it into a pamphlet in the general public's eyes.

1478  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS]Cheap Windows 7&8 key from MSDN on: August 23, 2012, 05:05:29 AM
Microsoft has no way of knowing you are developing or gaming.
Plus, I've sold those keys for a year and none of my customers reported that their key is blocked
well obviously you're going to say that, but you'll need to provide proof or everyone will think you're bullshitting.

Are you f** kidding me? If Microsoft is capable of monitoring what you do on their OS, it's a complete breach of their privacy policy + privacy law in any country. CIA might penetrate Microsoft to leave some backdoor in windows, but do you really think Microsoft dare to plant backdoor in their retail version to monitor what you do? (The hash of MSDN version is exactly the same as that of retail version)

Is this proof enough for you, or do I need to hand over the source code of windows?

if you want to make any sales at all you gotta stop being an asshole, these people are your potential customers holy shit

Seriously. Don't raise your voice; improve your argument.
1479  Economy / Goods / Re: Feeler: Quad copters (Semi-assembled kits) on: August 23, 2012, 05:01:18 AM
You'll definitely get more sales if you tell us exactly what you're selling Tongue I'm not going to buy until I see a video of one working and such. I'd also like to be able to program flight patterns and other software stuff with an arduino, so keep that in mind when getting parts together Wink

Just having an FPV setup will be cool enough though Cool
1480  Economy / Marketplace / Re: ["WAIT LIST"] BFL Mini-Rig Order Date/Ship Date on: August 23, 2012, 02:44:00 AM
Maybe I should close this thread down then? Is it really that important to know when the last guy receives his mini-rig?

Well, it's important to me.  Smiley

Mine should ship next week!
