1  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: A doubt about onchain transactions on: Today at 11:48:51 AM
Hello, everyone. Can someone answer me this question: To where goes a payment if the date I assigned to a transaction has expired before it has been processed? I withdrew a certain number of sats from the exchange, the transaction was confirmed (here is the ID c5d0c43d8be74e58317a84928536829febe947fc8a43dd6b403a98f3e5bf0a60), but the sats did not arrive in my Tails electrum wallet.
I see that your transaction has 10 outputs. First you need to check your wallet balance on the blockchain to make sure you received the coins.
It could be a bug on the exchange or a synchronization issue in your wallet, but a better place to start is by checking on the blockchain.
2  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: EU is set to delagalise decentralised mixers on: Today at 11:36:28 AM

Decentralized services will be available anyway. Not every dev lives in a country they can reach. Can they get to a dev that lives in Russia for example? I don’t think so but this time your data will be in the hands of Putin.
If someone uses a centralized service, then they cannot trust this service 100% because they cannot verify that transaction data has been deleted. And for the developer this is a big plus for cooperation with the judicial system if he is later caught.

If we consider a decentralized service and a Russian developer, then Russian citizen Alexey Pertsev was charged with developing the Tornado Cash cryptomixer. Its code is open and anyone can check it and use it.
And what kind of data might end up in the hands of the Russian рresident after this, if all this data is open to everyone on the blockchain?
You can only see that address 1 sent 1 Ethereum to the mixer, and address 2 took 1 Ethereum from the mixer, but you cannot find an obvious connection between the addresses when many people use this service.
3  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Man Arrested for distributing and selling Hive RAT Malware on: Today at 11:16:39 AM

Maybe it sounds strange or as a threat to human rights, but someone who has done something like this once is very likely to do it again if he has the chance. Deterrence in the form of restrictive measures is by far the best measure when it comes to such people.
We are discussing a crime and a not very experienced criminal who was caught trying to sell malware. And every day hundreds or thousands of such crimes will be committed.
If you look at the statistics on the increase in cybercrime by country, many countries will have to build reservations for such people. But there is no budget for this and no laws either Smiley
4  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is Uncle Gary leaving the SEC? on: Today at 11:07:59 AM
@zasad@. The victory in the case on Ripple is the judges ruling that have declared that the tokens by themselves are not securities. This might open a new roadmap for development teams on how to issue tokens without making it a security. I speculate that proof of work will become useful again in this new distribution method where projects will use proof of work for distribution then make the transformation to proof of stake. It might be similar to Ethereum without the premine.
Then let's come to some agreement on this issue.
I think that even before the court’s decision it was clear that if a token was not sold to investors, then it cannot be a security.
This is what the famous Howey test says.

The fact "that tokens themselves are not securities" helps US-based crypto exchanges avoid accusations of securities trading.

Ripple still has a bunch of other legal charges, and most likely they will pay a fine. Ripple was also engaged in active marketing and market manipulation (like other projects).

Is this a secret? This has been known to everyone for a long time, but with such requirements it was impossible to work on the crypto market.

Don't you think you're contradicting yourself?
Tax evasion is a crime, then how can you legally commit a crime? I know that tax crimes in the USA have no statute of limitations.

he's not evading taxes. he's avoiding them by doing particular types of things which are legal... Angry and trust me, i'm sure the IRS knows about him. and looks over his tax returns every single year VERY CAREFULLY. oh, and he even invests some of his money into bitcoin among other things. as a side thing. care to guess who he is? i bet he is rolling around in tens of millions of dollars if not more in liquid fiat currency right now. and could buy anything he wanted. that type of thing.

It all depends on the system and its tasks. If the system does not fulfill its tasks, then it is bad for the state and good for the people.
And vice versa. After all, the interests of the state and the interests of people do not always coincide.
And the fact that the court gives longer prison sentences for tax crimes than for murder or similar crimes is a problem of your judicial system.

Well, the "state" and the people are not on an equal level. The state prints all the money. They print it and it immediately becomes valuable just because they printed it. and it looks nice and people can't easily make fake copies of it. does that sound like a very good system to you?
You and I live in different countries with different mentalities. In Russia, an average exchanger on the wholesale market in Moscow can change 10-20 million dollars in a day or half a day. Nobody pays taxes on this. A lot of goods come to Russia from China and Chinese sellers accept cryptocurrencies without any problems. If earlier merchants carried dollars across the border, now rarely anyone does this thanks to the introduction of cryptocurrencies.
If your friend cheated the tax system and tells his friends about it, then he is taking a city risk.

Thanks to cryptocurrencies, you can now print your own money.

"Casio has signed strategic partnerships with creators that will design the collection.
An iconic Casio watch model would be depicted in each work of art.
In a partnership with Astar’s zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM), world-renowned watchmaker Casio has launched the NFT collection. The release states that this new breakthrough is intended to celebrate Casio’s 50th anniversary. The major partnership with Casio was also announced by Astar Network on X.

It is vital that Casio and Astar zkEVM, a formidable alliance formed by Astar and Polygon, work together to improve scalability. Yoki Origins is a gamified user onboarding experience that Astar zkEVM, powered by Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK), started using a few months ago. The Ethereum Layer-2 scaling solution is incorporating the Yoki Origins experience into its latest partnership with Casio."

https://unchainedcrypto.com/a16z-makes-90-million-private-purchase-of-optimisms-op-token/A16z Makes $90 Million Private Purchase of Optimism’s OP Token
Blockchains including Celo have recently chosen Optimism’s OP Tech Stack to deploy Layer 2s on Ethereum.
"Prominent venture capital firm a16z has snapped up about $90 million of Optimism’s native OP token, according to two sources familiar with the matter, marking the latest institutional bet on the Ethereum Layer 2.

The investment, said to be executed under a two-year vesting period, follows a flurry of activity in the Optimism ecosystem, including growth in usage of Optimism’s OP Stack. Token vesting periods entered into by sizable investors typically come with discounted purchases to the token’s trading price. "

the victim had “20k in bitcoin on a blockchain wallet”
Note that it says 20k in bitcoin. NOT 20k Bitcoins. Huge difference there...
As for the person arrested - hope he gets the maximum sentences.
By income standards in the United States, for trying to steal 25 thousand dollars, a femida must first flog the criminal’s ass Smiley and then send him to forced labor. Just because a person spends several years in prison, he will not improve. And in forced labor, he will at least benefit society.
9  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Alert on Cryptocurrency Money Services Businesses USA on: May 02, 2024, 08:16:51 AM
Soon there will be no non-custodial services and wallets left in the United States.

Soon, all decentralized exchanges (DEX) will likely be required to verify the origin of their users' wallets and request that the wallet owners undergo a Know Your Customer (KYC) process. This trend is expected to spread globally, with G20 countries following the lead of the United States. Already Trump has publically advocated that he will punish countries that stop using USD for global transactions. They will do anything to control the world and they will do anything to stop Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies from dominating their USD.
First, Trump needs to win the election, and he is not leading the polls yet. Further practice shows that the United States can successfully influence small countries, but they cannot influence such large countries as China, India, Russia, whose population is more than half of the world's population (or almost half).
And the resources of the United States are very limited, because the country has a large national debt, for which there are no solutions and many of its own internal problems.

If you look at the lists of the richest people in the US and the amount of taxes paid, you will realize that rich people and their companies pay high taxes.
i don't need to look at a list of rich people. i know of one rich person and i know exactly how he avoids paying any taxes. but he has a huge income and he does it legally. its very simple.
Don't you think you're contradicting yourself?
Tax evasion is a crime, then how can you legally commit a crime? I know that tax crimes in the USA have no statute of limitations.

larry_vw_1955, why are you making excuses? The system does everything to ensure that the majority of people are its slaves. If this is not the case, then it is a bad system.

a bad system for who? the majority of the people?

i heard biden is trying to make it a felony if you don't file your tax return for 3 out of 5 years and then the penalty would be jail time and maybe something more. that's part of his budget proposal for 2025. it applies to rich people. not working folks.

i think i heard it may be a 5 year jail term. just enough time to get acclimated to life on the inside... Shocked

It all depends on the system and its tasks. If the system does not fulfill its tasks, then it is bad for the state and good for the people.

EU will ban mixers and force crypto firms to surveil users in blow to DeFi anonymity
If DeFi services force users to undergo identity verification procedures, how will they continue to be DeFi?
Does this include any exchange service that does not ask depositors for data for transactions less than $10,000, or for all transactions, and does this include Monero ban?
Most DeFi is no longer DeFi because there is a token lockup and a kill switch.
In a couple of years, there will be no well-known services without a KYC procedure. But you can prepare for this by distributing the coins into smaller wallets now, so that there is no connection between these wallets.

US SEC expected to deny spot ether ETFs next month, industry sources say
"U.S. issuers and other firms expect the Securities and Exchange Commission to deny their applications to launch exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tied to the price of ether after discouraging meetings with the agency in recent weeks, four people said.
VanEck, ARK Investment Management and seven other issuers have filed with the SEC to list ETFs that would track the spot price of the world's second-largest cryptocurrency after bitcoin. The SEC must decide on VanEck's and ARK's filings, which are first in line, by May 23 and May 24 respectively."

"Regulatory clarity should encourage banks into the stablecoin market.  Assuming the bill is approved, and that relevant banking regulation follows, the new rules may offer banks a competitive advantage by limiting institutions without a banking license to a maximum issuance of $10 billion. The bill is unlikely to significantly affect stablecoins already regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), including PayPal USD, Gemini USD, and Paxos USD, as they are well-below the $10 billion threshold and because it is otherwise broadly consistent with NYDFS guidance."
17  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC vs Consensys on: May 01, 2024, 11:35:22 AM
The SEC takes advantage of the complete lack of legislation in the cryptosphere.
It looks more like abusing the freedom there is in the crypto space and also contradicting their own regulation attempts.

This will be a very interesting case to follow and should get as much public attention other crypto related suits have gotten. The SEC has been pushing on crypto related platforms, it will be good if is is met with good resistance this time.
I don't think that such a concept as "freedom" is appropriate in the American market. This market has always worked according to its own rules, and only the largest and strongest companies will remain in the American market. Weaker and smaller companies have already closed under threat of indictment or left the United States.
18  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: IRS FORM 1040 "Digital Assets on: May 01, 2024, 11:29:48 AM

About taxes, my point was that taxes need to be paid. But if the tax rate is just prohibitive, you don't have to be an idiot.
Rich people have the best tax advisors in the world and will always find a way to minimize taxes.

Rich people dont pay taxes from what i've heard. That's how they got rich in the first place. Keeping all that money and using it to make more.

Quote
In other words what you are saying is that some people should remain slaves to the system.
No, I'm saying some people should put their crypto with custodians. Because they are incapable to managing private data over the longterm without losing it. That's if they insist on being involved in crypto at all. If not then so much the better. I'm doing them a favor by having that opinion. As harsh as it may sound. Dont get involved in crypto unless you are really good at keeping private data secure for the longterm.
If you look at the lists of the richest people in the US and the amount of taxes paid, you will realize that rich people and their companies pay high taxes. But each case needs to be analyzed individually, because in the USA there are a lot of benefits for different companies in different areas and the largest benefits are in the AI direction.

larry_vw_1955, why are you making excuses? The system does everything to ensure that the majority of people are its slaves. If this is not the case, then it is a bad system.

OFAC has imposed sanctions against Russian blockchain service operators.
It seems that the United States will never run out of ideas and will continue to look for ways to get Russia to end all their war actions against Ukraine, I'm willing to bet that whatever laws and sanctions the US imposed on Russia were only to help Ukraine end the war.

Most sanctions exist only on paper, but they do not work.
The United States is the very first beneficiary of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Thanks to this, most high-tech companies from Europe are moving to the United States, because cheap prices for energy, raw materials and minerals have ended in Europe.

They are sanctioning the Russian exchanges but how is this going to do anything? Crypto is unstoppable. Russian exchanges must be laughing their assess off right now. None of their customers are USA citizens probably too, so what's the point here? Do they think these exchanges will go away just because they are getting sanctioned? Russian gas was sanctioned too but EU is still using Russian gas. :/ This is absurd.
I think it's a matter of the procedure itself.
If it is proven that these exchanges and their founders violated US laws, this entire huge system with branches in all countries could persecute the founders of the exchanges for life.

Uncle Gary is doing a great job, but he will fail with Ethereum and soon there will be spot Ethereum ETFs in the US. Many companies were waiting for regulations, and now the SEC has many ways to fill the state budget.

Hehehhe he is only doing a great job before the case, however, when these cases begin, it will depend on the judge's statement and ruling if uncle Gary is really doing a great job. Uncle Gary was a loser to Ripple already. This is a very important precedent for the next cases.

I do not agree that the SEC completely lost against Ripple in court. Ripple will pay big fines and the case is not closed yet.
If the result of Uncle Gary's work is measured in the fines that companies pay to the US budget, then Uncle Gary works very well. If we evaluate judicial practice, then money and the best lawyers in the world win here.
