421  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Do Kwon arrested on: February 11, 2024, 03:14:31 PM
So based on the article, he is being decided on where they will send Kwon right? Being arrested with false documents? It should've been more right? it's really hard to find the right justice for the people who are affected by Kwon's scam

In Korea, a new law has been passed under which Do Kwon will receive life in prison. In the United States, he will receive several decades of imprisonment if he gives up everything and cooperates with the authorities.
In Montenegro he can buy his freedom and justice because he has a lot of money. Therefore, Do Kwon will try to stay in Montenegro as much as possible.
422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is your view and your opinion about Ethereum? on: February 10, 2024, 09:19:01 AM
The second most popular cryptocurrency coin is ethereum, Ethereum is ranked #2 in the cryptocurrency market place. Currently many people are investing in Ethereum and they say that investing in Ethereum can be more profitable than Bitcoin, because they say that when Bitcoin is 100k then Ethereum price will reach 10k. In this they can earn more than Bitcoin. Also, some are saying that once Ethereum's SEC charges are over, the price will rise so much that they will be able to profit more than Bitcoin.

What is your view and your opinion about Ethereum? You can share if you want.
Don't forget to visit the official thread.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=428589.26180

I believe that investing in Ethereum is very conservative. This ecosystem has a great future and Ethereum is not threatened by SEC regulation. In the worst case scenario, the team will pay a small fine.
Investors prefer more dynamic assets, where the price can increase by 500-1000%, and Ethereum has little chance of such things.
423  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Crypto tax law in Germany. How does it work? on: February 10, 2024, 09:06:00 AM
But hey, in a country that even taxes every sports bet or poker hand you are playing (every time 5% of the amount bet or won), what else would you expect, right.

The bolded part cannot be so because by simple compound interest there could be no winning poker players, and Germany has produced a very good number of them. I think you are confusing the tax that is applied to pots or buy-ins with the tax that is applied to profits, to which income tax is applied.

As for the tax residency in Germany that the OP asks, it is the same as in other countries in Europe: you have to spend a minimum of 6 months living there.

This for people who are in the same case as the OP, living very close to a country with a better tax treatment, it is very tempting to rent a house to claim tax residency but without actually spending the required time. To this I have to warn that the tax authorities of the countries have become more and more sophisticated and can analyze things like electricity consumption or credit card payments and if you have not spent the minimum time you are going to have a problem.

Betting on sports in Germany the 5% tax has to be paid while making the bet. It doesn’t matter if the bet wins or loses, when you bet 100€ the amount shown on your betting slip will be 95€ since the tax is deducted immediately . About poker you are right.

About the residency, if you have a residency ( rented house or whatever in your name which is registered ) there is some tax you will pay , not only if you stay in Germany longer than 183 days. The 183 rule is for income tax. Gains from investments fall under a different tax as far as I know . This tax is called Abgeltungssteuer.

I don't know anything about taxes on cryptocurrencies in Germany, but I want to draw your attention to one very important point: 183 days.
From the experience of my friends, this does not work automatically. If, by law, you are not a tax agent of your country because you live in another country, then you must first deregister from the tax register in your country and then register with the tax office of another country.
424  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New SEC Requirement for DEX Liquidity Providers on: February 10, 2024, 08:58:53 AM
I have already written about how this system works. If you have 1000 dollars in your account, then there is no point in following you and wasting resources. You will either lose tokens or your balance will increase to such an amount that they will monitor you and wait until you make a mistake and transfer the tokens to the custodial service.
And many well-known large DEHs will work through white lists and KYC providers in a few years.

If the source code for these DEXes is distributed under GPL or a similar license, then it is pretty easy to fork the DEX codebase remove the KYC and whitelist checks and start the same DEX under a different name, without the KYC and whitelists. In that case I would expect that users and their money will move from the old to the new DEX.

The governments may try to make illegal development of KYC-less DEXes, but I am not sure if that will work either.

The most likely to work approach is to put under control the conversion of crypto to and from fiat. That approach will be especially effective once they replace cash and most of bank money with CBDCs.
I always show my opponents this link so that they understand what decentralization is.
It is a decentralized ecosystem, but it is not in demand.  Or do you think that enthusiasts will provide good liquidity in such ecosystems?

You are right that KYC and whitelisting are not the only way. The easiest way is to pay rewards to informants.

427  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC vs Binance on: February 09, 2024, 08:42:19 PM
I would like to discuss one point.
Zhao is awaiting trial in the US at the end of February. Previously, you read the news that the US government banned Zhao from leaving the country until a court decision and did not even let him out to see a sick relative on a huge bail of 4.5 billion dollars.

Why?
If Zhao does not come to court, he will lose a lot of money and will be wanted.
Is Zhao's fate now being decided or has it already been decided?

Is this a form of pressure or will Zhao get a prison sentence?

When I see articles like this, I stop believing in price pumps. There are also other opinions that national currencies are crap, and the only way out is to buy Bitcoin.
The only thing I don’t know is the level to which the price will pump, but then we will fly down.
If you listen to well-known experts, then look at what they said following the last fall in the price of Bitcoin.

Gary Gensler may look like a clown sometimes, but he's no fool. Any collar should be put on gradually. At first the sum will be 50 million, and many people don’t care about it. Then the amount will decrease to 5 million, but it will be difficult to argue with this, because there will be large fines or prison sentences for violations. And in the United States, such crimes have no statute of limitations. And then this amount can be reduced to 100-500 thousand.
Yes, your point of view is reasonable, but here we have an important question: How will they be able to prosecute violators if they do not have the required information?

I mean for a DEX that doesn't enforce KYC and protects user privacy how are they going to force them to provide information? Does this mean they will force every DEX to submit to KYC, AML and anti-terrorism standards? Then all this sensitive information will be in the possession of the American government!!

Are there any liquidity providers that accept these new standards?

430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Real World Assets, AI Trust, and the Crypto revolution on: February 08, 2024, 09:59:51 AM

So here's my question bitcointalkers, how could crypto shape real world assets and AI positively? What potential excites you the most? Let me know your thoughts on these groundbreaking developments!
I think this is another advertisement for the sale of tokens. I wrote about similar projects 4 years ago
https://realt.co/
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5185915.msg54164595#msg54164595

These projects are developing very slowly due to restrictions in each country and lack of legislation, so now it is most like a centralized platform with white lists that works on the blockchain.
I too have seen reports of Real World Assets growing by 2030, but these platforms will not be decentralized and are not like the NFT market or Uniswap.
431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the next step for Solana? on: February 08, 2024, 09:49:23 AM
I bought Solana for a little more than 20 dollars and already took a profit. This is another pump for hamsters to sell them expensive coins again. I do not exclude price increases in the range of 200-300 dollars, but I am not ready to take risks for a 200-300% profit. Solana's partners have already received pre-orders for a huge batch of new phones. Solana will live on, but there are many more interesting ecosystems to invest in right now.
432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How Safe is MetaMask? on: February 08, 2024, 09:42:44 AM
It has always been advised not to hold your assets in exchanges. it is a very risky venture to do so.
As for metamask, I have been using it for years and I have had no security isssues using them. I speak for myself though, someone might have a contrary opinion.
Any software cryptocurrency wallet will not protect you from viruses or exploits. I have been using Metamask for a long time, but only in conjunction with a hardware wallet. And for testing projects or for wallets with amounts up to $100, I do not use a hardware wallet. You can create many wallets in Metamask and it is very convenient.
433  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: More Regulation Incoming! on: February 08, 2024, 09:25:56 AM
Warren Buffett is still a Bitcoin sadist till today and he doesn't believe that Bitcoin have any monetary value at all but that one is left to him. There are many people that had been asking for the regulation of Bitcoin by the government because of so many big scams that had happened before now. If Bitcoin ever get regulated, it are not going to be the same again like we used to enjoy it.
I'm not a big fan of Warren Buffett, but I like his thoughts and sometimes agree with them. Warren Buffett said one brilliant phrase that "Bitcoin will someday cost $0". This should not be taken literally. He understands that the price of Bitcoin will be manipulated and says that the price of Bitcoin will first reach certain heights, and then will remain at the bottom for a very long time, because manipulators will no longer be interested in this asset. But he doesn't tell us when this will happen.
434  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New SEC Requirement for DEX Liquidity Providers on: February 08, 2024, 09:19:02 AM
What is this bullshit? Registration under the rules of the Securities and Exchange Commission means submitting documents, identification papers, revealing identity and all other details, as well as providing proof of the source of funds, etc. This is completely inconsistent with the concept of DEX. Who will surrender their neck to the sword of the American government?

Now liquidity providers have two options: either operating underground illegally or fleeing to a place outside the authority of the US government.

Gary thinks he can turn DEX into central banks under government control, this guy is getting so funny I think he needs a psychiatrist!!!

"54% of ERC-20 Tokens Listed on DEXes in 2023 Display Patterns That May Be Suggestive of Pump and Dump Schemes, but Represent just 1.3% of DEX Trading Volume

For most of the research that we publish in our annual Crypto Crime Report, the data tells a clear story. For instance, funds sent to ransomware operators, darknet markets, or sanctioned entities can be measured and trends can be analyzed with Chainalysis labeling and data. But blockchain data can also be used to detect suspicious trading patterns. In these cases, the evidence on the blockchain is less definitive. Instead, on-chain data can provide a starting point for deeper investigations, usually combined with other, off-chain information. For this reason, we do not include possible market manipulation proceeds or estimates of victim losses in our count of total illicit transaction volume — there isn’t enough information to determine whether the activity is criminal or not without additional context.
