101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official FutureBit Apollo BTC Software/Image and Support thread on: June 09, 2021, 06:26:14 PM
Full Node finally finished the blockchain sync. Any guess as to when we will need to upgrade the 500gb to something bigger?

2 years
Full Node disk space additions without address index and also ignoring blocks/index:

Dec 6.1G
Jan 6.4G
Feb 5.8G
Mar 6.4G
Apr 5.8G
May 6.4G

So going on 6.1G a month and a 512GiB drive holds 460GB in disk space (and ignoring anything else there)
and current is 383G, the answer would appear to be 12.6 months - if you let it fill up and didn't care about it failing due to that.

Just hope there's way less transactions due to a lower BTC price, and I guess then it may make it to 2 years?

wrong ratios

395 against 500

you have 105 left over

so 105/6.4 = 16.4 months or 1 year and 4 months.

or 105/5.8= 18.1 months of 1 year and 6 months

Either way too short and my guess of 2 year is also too short in the sense that nodes support network and need to run for decades not months.

Frankly I complained about this to the builder in a post here or on the other thread.

I would say the 500gb choice was wrong and I did say it.

In fact I will be this  cloning the crucial 500gb to a crucial 1tb this week.

I will be making a YouTube video and linking the effort of cloning the drive in my review thread.

Sometimes things are done stupid cheap ('Pennywise pound foolish')

I have found that the drive is too small and that the feet are too short.
My YouTube video shows the larger feet I added.

As soon as you publish this video please let me know so I can purchase a bigger drive and do the same I’d rather just get it out of the way as soon as possible.
parts are due on friday

Should be done by Monday at worst

Firstly, yep I wrote 512 when I should have written 500 Smiley
You posted this device: https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p2/CT500P2SSD8
Which is 500GB, but that's 500*1000*1000*1000 but all OSes will read this as 465G = 465*1024*1024*1024 or less.

But unless that 465G of storage has nothing else on it but the .bitcoin directory, it will lose a few G so probably 460G in OS terms.
My months stats I stated above are the same OS G

Login to your linux box on it and type:
Code:
df -h
and you'll see how big it is and how much is used.

I wonder what that 395 number you say is? Disk G as any computer will say? (1024*1024*1024)

If it is disk G, then you lose another 1.5 months off my number.
So down to 11 months

Edit: and yes in my post I wrote GB and GiB back to front in the 'So going...' line Tongue

It reads in the node guidelines that it has used 395 of 500

In a storage report it reads say 345 of 457

Not at the site so no access to exact numbers

But 395 of 500 or 345 of 457 are close.

These get us in the 14 to 18 month zone using your 5.8 to 6.4 numbers

Whether it is 11 or 12 or 14 or 18 months even two years it is too fast.

I Consider the 500gb option okay if you may not want to run the node.

But I want to run the node so I am going to clone the 500 to a 1tb and not worry.

Parts are on the way.

I forget but some developers shipped me a free.fgpa to mine max coin.

I mined a few hundred coins they had the bs exchange.  I stopped it was a waste of time.

Bitcoin interest was a hybrid mine and stake coin a waste.of time.

I pivoted 20000 bci coins into doge and did the doge.hodl

Worked much better.

My l3+ are still whaling doge and ltc.

They have become the best asics I ever owned.

Doge may well go to huge numbers. We mine 9000-10000 a month

105  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Need feedback on S17 Pro 53Th... on: June 07, 2021, 01:12:19 PM
What price did they ask for the s17pro

5 @ 2000 usd each would be 10000 usd

5@ 4000 usd each would be 20000 usd

Me personally would take a shot at five for 10000 total

The s17pro 53th model was the best of all s17s

I have 17 of them since 2019

1 has 1 good board
2 have 2 good  boards
14 fully work

I burned 1 psu out.

So for me I think they were good.

ive build my own Sound reducer box with 2 material but need new idea about this.
can anyone share his experience on this?
I did a series of videos on youtube. I will look for links

Hmm WEAK, WEAK, WEAK...

Unfortunately BTC is still not able to crush up anything..

We need to be ready for more down obviously.. (30? 25? less?).

Even if I find it doesn't make sense to go lower (and more down?) after a 50% drop vertically without any real bounce, into a bull market. Just a consolidation in the low DIP range.. Roll Eyes

Nothing to compare with 2013 or 2017.

low volume at the moment (except on dumps). balance between the few buyers and sellers. buyers hold their FIAT back and are waiting for lower prices to get into. sellers hold their BTC back and are waiting for higher prices to sell some. everyone is waiting for something to happen. maybe the next 3 months until September?

Mid july when an unnamed shit coin changes its feed

108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are people really that ignorant? on: June 05, 2021, 03:00:37 PM
ETH was suppose to go POS way before 2017, it was suppose to go live with POS at around Summer 2016. I remember because in those days I still had old R9 280X gpus and they hashed at 20MH/s and the new RX series at the time hashed at 30MH/s and used almost half the power.

The R9 280X used like 200 Watts and hashed at 20MH/s while the RX 480 8GB used like 140 watts but hashed at 30MH/s. The GPUs weren't too expensive however I was hesistant because there was talk about ETH going POS.

5 years later and I am still waiting for this POS.

And when fall of 2022 arrives they will do another delay.

Most people do not understand why pos is so terrible

Which is why mr v delays the switch to it.
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU miners still buying cards? on: June 05, 2021, 02:57:25 PM
A RTX3080Ti doing 65MH for ETH mining sucks, I won't be buying this cards if this is all they can do, the normal 3080 and 3070 are lot better but if I could get at MSRP price then no worries lol 🤣 yea I'm in
Ethereum may change the algorithm next year.

To progpow?  I though the algo change was dead?
All GPU miners would be happy if Ethereum changed their algorithm to progpow.
Hardfork London, which will be in about 50 days, will be the last preparation for the change to the POS algorithm
After that, due to eip 1559, miners will have a decrease in profit, because part of the commissions will be burned.

Fees will lower and if Eth jumps to 5-7k a coin miners will earn the same amount of fiat.
110  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solar Energy Bitcoin Mining on: June 05, 2021, 02:53:38 PM
Most parts of the world use factors from 5 to 7

Ie 30kwatt/ 5 = 6kwatts 24/7/365 on a grid tied setup

or 30kwatt/ 6 = 5kwatts 24/7/365 on a grid tied setup

or 30kwatt/ 7 = 4.3kwatts 24/7/365 on a grid tied setup.

battery setups are more costly and batteries simply do not last long.

In NJ USA a 30kwatt is big for a home.

but 20 kwatt could fit on a decent roof.

out lay would be more than 20k but less  than 35k

it would  run three s17pro set to 40th and 1000 watts.

giving you 120th endlessly.

you need the correct after market firmware but it does exist.

so you could do 120th for free which is about 30 usd a day.

NJ ,USA has many incentives the array would pay off in under 6 years.

The storage is crucial. During peaking hours you won't consume 20KW. When you run lithium between 20&80% they last easily 10-20years.
There are also saltwaterbatteries. They last more or less indefinite since you can replace the anode by changing the saltwater.
Just not sure if they are available in the US...

it would  run three s17pro set to 40th and 1000 watts.

Underclocking S19pros is a very interesting consideration!

Grid tie in the USA is better than any battery setup.

In the USA.

You get various incentives in the correct states.

The grid acts like your battery.

IE IN NJ use a factor of 6. So 20k is 3.33kwatts you constantly burn 3.00 kwatts with the clocked lower s17 pro and the left over goes to the grid. So in full sun 3k goes to the gear 17k reverses on your meter.

When sun goes away you tap the credits.

That is why a 20k system is good for 3.0-3.33 kwatts 24/7/365

Now you also get credits from the state of nj for 10 years in a row.

So the 30k you paid for the 20k watt system get paid off in 10 years.

The mining earnings are your profit.

But this is all due to state law somes states attack solar and protect oil.

NJ attacks oil and protects solar.
Batteries are not really viable as they are an extra cost.
They take you off the grid and you get lower incentives .

Hello folks, i'm looking for server PSUs, breakout boards, and cables that can be used with ASIC miners. Any preferred/reliable sources in the US?

Throwing back a ways, I bought a couple of Corsair 1080Ti Hydro GFX from Phil. They were running great when I powered them off as the market turned bearish. Well fast forward to a few months ago and my wife(!!!) was intrigued with crypto after reading an article in the newspaper about coins and mining. She asked if we could get a miner going. I pulled the 1080Tis out of storage and cranked them up, and they have been mining happily since. They are giving me ~48-49 MH/s each on ethash.

- Zed

I have bought several of the HP 1200 ones off Ebay last couple of months.  Can generally get them for $40-50/each without too much trouble.  Breakout boards with cables also for around $25.  Been using with the L3+'s I have and also on my GPU mining rigs that are using the Rebtech mining board.

By the way phil, got me another L3+ over the weekend.  Not as good a deal as the last two but could not hold out any longer.  So have 3 now.  I may catch you some day.

the l3+ are very likely the best asics ever made. In terms of profit that is.

Oh coinbase is doing doge now. Buy $ 100  or more and they have a giveaway.

113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU price might increase more or not on: June 01, 2021, 06:05:48 PM
Very hard to predict prices with such variables we have at the moment: lack of chips this entire year, high demand, pandemic situation, inflation and mining.

200% I think it's hard to reach, because prices are almost unbearable, at least in my country people stopped to buy GPUs like insanes, and we've reached some plateau on prices, but if ETH goes to 4k USD again, and after EIP 1559 ETH mining keep earning good profits, I think prices of GPUs can go up again, but to achieve 200% it's another story.

To price hits 200% more the only situation I can think right now is: ETH price skyrockets to 10k USD.

 Nvidia nerf is solid
Only amd become worth buying.
Eth goes to 6k

This would jump amd very high and older 3000 nvidia have added value.
114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU price might increase more or not on: June 01, 2021, 05:54:01 PM
Is it possible that price GPU increase by 200% more in coming year 2022? What if ETH mining maintain a fair gains like 30MH doing 1.5 to 2$? What do you think?

Depends upon scarcity  if there are lots of them price will drop.

At 3 cents an mh a 30 mh card makes 90 cents a day. It may burn 3kwatts at 10 cents so 90-30 is 60 cents a day. Or 215 a year.

That is about the lowest that works.

Mine is earning coin on viabtc as I type.

And while I did not hit a block on ck solo pool it accepted shares at that pool

The highest was about 110,000,000

Just a reminder for anyone that doesn't know the 3080 ti is being released on the 3rd, and 3070 ti June 10th. Nvidia might be selling them on their site again.  EVGA Elite members will have 24hr exclusive access beginning June 3 at 6AM PDT to sign up for an EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti via the auto-notify queue.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/30-series/rtx-3080-3080ti/

Looks like the 3080 ti page is up on best buy.

Please note all 3080ti cards are.to be nerfed.

I present to you, my friends, A Monday Morning Long post after getting all coffeed up...

[snip]
Excellent post, merited. I only have one small nit to pick, this part, commonly misunderstood from Manfred Mann's, 'Blinded by the Light':
Wrapping Up (like a deuce, another runner in the night?)

A Deuce is a nickname for a 1932 Ford, the King Daddy of hotrods for many years. The correct phrase is:

Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night

I have heard that story...  But then, I have heard Bruce Springsteen perform it (and he actually wrote it) and sing "Cut Loose". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjxbOe7p8C0

Though the Manfred Mann version is way better.

Yeah MANFRED MANN did it real justice.
118  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Review on apollo btc miner on: May 29, 2021, 11:26:23 PM
And a complaint. I mentioned that the fan was buzzing way too loudly.

I tightened it up by hand held screwdriver, all exterior case screws and buzzing went away.

A day later it came back.

All external screws were.good which means something inside was loose.

SINCE every case screw.was.turnable 1/4 to 1/2 I knew I had to turn it off and find the loose screw.

So I took 14.side screws.off carefully and.found the problem the cpu has a tiny 3/4
Inch fan that cools it off. Not sure that the fan is cooling the cpu or a different  chip but both screws were very loose. At least 1 full turn to tighten them.

Then of course attach the two sides with 14 screws and not to mention I detached both the mobo and the nvme.2 from the back frame.

After doing a this and reassembling it all it works a charm.

So to sum up this has two fans the one that cools the hashing board and is visible at the top of the unit.  The second tiny fan is hard to see but it was very loose.

As a follow up what should my temps be when I am mining with eco setting.

Should i be at 70c or 80c

Or lower.

IT IS ANNOYING  that the assembly has this loose screw issue. Sorry about caps.

Oh I have not quite.loaded chain I am about 10000 blocks short.

As an  aside;

I think it should be easy to.click and.drag the 500 gh info into a 1tb stick.
119  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official FutureBit Apollo BTC Software/Image and Support thread on: May 28, 2021, 09:17:56 PM
Have two issues.

1) Can only set one pool.

2) All but 1 of my units have stopped working after trying to change the the miner settings. I have tried setting eco, balanced and even advanced with power from min to 45%. Only  One unit will work when I make these changes but the rest will not function at all. Even the main controller will not function with no unit connected and shows the default config with default pool.

Update: I was able to now get some units working again by connecting each one to the USB 1 port and booting the units individually. All but 1 of the units are now working. I will try connect the still bad unit to a PI and run it on its own.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you are downloading the block chain node you are likely stressing the cpu out

Three or four miners and a node down load may stress that cpu.

I AM almost back from the clifton mine I am hoping the node is loaded up.
120  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Republicans should be put to death. on: May 25, 2021, 12:27:43 PM
Republicans are useless, they have a diseased mind.
There is no winning for Republicans.  When a Republican is voted into office we all lose including them.  This is because they are only capable of destroying things and making things worse.  We can all see the future we were heading towards when the Republicans had control, a Mad-Max like scenario.

They have also become a National security threat as they are traitors.
You cannot even make this stuff up as it is simply the truth.

Edit:
The Republican mind has no ability to plan for, much less understand the existence of the future.
We can tell this not by their words(as their words are all lies), but very clearly by their actions.

DUDE violence is not the answer. And honestly Liz Cheney stood up and disagreed
With the party so how would it be fair to slay her?
