81  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: If I overclock past 900 my mhash/s goes down even with good temps on: July 20, 2011, 03:29:58 AM
You need higher voltage to support the higher frequencies.
Pushing the GPU past stock frequencies requires "extra voltage", and will also lead to slightly higher electricity costs.

Right now my three Gigabyte 6970s are set to 940Mhz with PowerTune at +5% (They have a higher voltage and 920Mhz clock by default), they get 420Mhash/sec.

My three Visiontek 6970's are reference model cards, thus with a default clock of 880Mhz. They too are running at 940Mhz, but since their default voltage is lower than the other cards, they need +15% PowerTune compared to my other cards at 5%.

The Gigabytes have three fans, but run much hotter because they do nothing to exhaust the hot air out of the case, so if you are reading this and are considering buying 6970 models with three fans, you might want to rethink that and get the single fan models.

My Visiontek cards run 25C cooler on average.

Gigabytes run from 80-90C
Visionteks are around 55-60C in a similar configuration.

So you will need to figure out whats right for your cards overclock in terms of voltage, because one cant properly overclock a card without setting the voltage with the newer cards.
82  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Im hashing at 1.1Ghash but im only getting .6 btc a day am I in the right pool on: July 20, 2011, 12:09:37 AM
That is about right, I have 2.5Ghash and I get anywhere between 1.20 and 1.75 a day, there is definitely some variance.
83  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What is your mining speed? on: July 15, 2011, 02:12:44 AM
Six 6970s @ 420Mhash each.

2.52Ghash

You would probably just be better off to store your wallet on a usb drive that you remove from your computer when not in use.
85  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Max OC for a 6970 on: July 14, 2011, 04:28:33 PM
im getting 420mhash per 6970. I have them OC to 950Mhz with voltage at 1175mv and mem at 800Mhz

It would make it more unlikely that a trojan would get your wallet, but it is still possible.
87  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How much does it cost YOU to produce a bitcoin? on: July 14, 2011, 12:40:43 AM
My electricity is included in rent, my bitcoins cost my landlord Cheesy
88  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: PowerTune on: July 13, 2011, 09:55:14 PM
I also need to give my cards extra power to achieve 420mhash

The three gigabytes come stock at 920mhz, they dont need extra power, i just OC them to 940mhz

The three visionteks i have are reference cards, They get 360mhash out of the box, and 420mhash with +10% power and 940mhz clocks

I forgot to mention.... The gigabytes get way too hot... They need extra cooling.... They have three fans but no vapour chamber... They blow all the hot air around inside the case. Temps 80C-90C with extra three fans for more airflow ontop of the three on each card.

The Visionteks have a single fan but run 25C cooler because the hot air is exhausted out of the back of the card... They are also 10 times louder then the other cards. they run 60C-75C

I have six 6970s @ 420mhash each for a total of 2520mhash/sec... Currently make abut 1.5/day

92  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What did you buy with BTC? on: July 13, 2011, 07:54:38 PM
I bought an HD 6970 for BTC Cheesy
93  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: In a dual graphics configuration, which graphics card hates life more?Top or Bot on: July 13, 2011, 07:53:20 PM
In my triple 6970 system the middle card is always 10C hotter then the other two
Due to the shitty design of the gigabyte triple fan cards not exhausting any hot air out of the case.

My visionteks with single fans stay much much cooler in the other system
