1501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin money? on: October 07, 2017, 07:35:57 AM
Bitcoin is something radically new. Nothing like Bitcoin has been possible until now. I would go so far as to consider it sui generis; "in its own class".  This makes it important to understand what Bitcoin actually is before we try to describe it to others.

We're getting a good handle on the code, and of course on Bitcoin's function and utility, but what words should we use to describe Bitcoin itself? There has been some debate in other threads [mostly my doing] over how it is like/not like money, cash, dollars, etc. I'd like to start this thread by focusing on the term "money", and play Devil's avocate by asking for your best arguments that Bitcoin IS money.

My legal dictionary states "In usual and ordinary acceptation it [money] means gold, silver, or paper money, used as circulating medium of exchange, and does not embrace notes, bonds, evidences of debt, or other personal or real estate." [cites omitted]

Wikipedia says "Money is any object that is generally accepted as payment for goods and services and repayment of debts in a given country or socio-economic context. The main functions of money are distinguished as: a medium of exchange; a unit of account; a store of value; and, occasionally, a standard of deferred payment." [cited omitted]

Webster's Online Dictionary defines money as:
    • 1. The most common medium of exchange; functions as legal tender; "we tried to collect the money he owed us".
    • 2. Wealth reckoned in terms of money; "all his money is in real estate".
    • 3. The official currency issued by a government or national bank; "he changed his money into francs".
    • 4. A piece of metal, as gold, silver, copper, etc., coined, or stamped, and issued by the sovereign authority as a medium of exchange in financial transactions between citizens and with government; also, any number of such pieces; coin.
    • 5. Any written or stamped promise, certificate, or order, as a government note, a bank note, a certificate of deposit, etc., which is payable in standard coined money and is lawfully current in lieu of it; in a comprehensive sense, any currency usually and lawfully employed in buying and selling.
    • 6. In general, wealth; property; as, he has much money in land, or in stocks; to make, or lose, money.
    [links omitted]
    [/list]

I maintain that per these definitions, Bitcoin cannot possibly be described as "money". And further, I think that those who do describe Bitcoin as "money" are doing this community a disservice.

But that is just my point of view. Are there any that can convincingly argue otherwise, that Bitcoin IS money?

Bitcoin is a digital currency that is not tied to a bank or government and allows its users to shop without revealing their true identity
Yes, bitcoin is not owned by anyone. It is truly decentralized in nature and only exchanges are centralized one. It has the feature of keeping the holder unknown, this is the only reason why it is greatly misused in deep and dark web. However, good people use it for right reasons. Bitcoin  is the digital gold and future of the currency. We cannot deny it and even if we do, the truth won't change.
1502  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling loses and wins on: October 07, 2017, 07:24:35 AM
It had been a losing streak and it hurts.  Cry
There is no way I could get it back but I am still playing the game thinking I could somehow take what had been lost even just a part of it will be okay for me.
It had been an unlucky week but I am hoping for tomorrow to be another day that will keep me from playing more.
Actually winning in the game is very hard even playing many times. You will always lose the game thats why I play often in gambling.

For me whether you play online or or in casinos mostly you will end up in a losses the longer you stay or keep playing continuously as proven in statistics. Could you share how many of the loses and win ratio is online and well that of casinos? Unless you play for fun chances of your addiction and losing in any case will be high.
That is why only a few people win on the long run when gambling because the higher you won so is your bet due to being tempted on your wining streak without even noticing that you're on the losing streak already so it's better to quit gambling once you've won already but that too is very hard to figure out because of the temptation we feel when winning.
Yeah, I know what you wanted to point out. When playing gambling we want to win because that's the reason of why we play gambling. But we don't notice immediately that we are already losing because we are really enjoying the game so we just want to continue to play. Until after we play gambling, that's the time that we just notice that we lose already a lot of money, when we just wanted to play several games and try our luck to win some bitcoin/money but we just lose a lot more than we expected.
Not everyone gambles for money. Some people are smart enough that they understand gambling cannot become a source of income. It is just a game but as it involves money in it, so it is a greedy and addictive one. If a person loves his time and money, he must really stay away from it. There are thousands of ways to earn and enjoy, so why going for the risky one.

1504  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Benefits from Gambling on: October 06, 2017, 06:55:44 PM
For me the only benefits that gambling can give is the fun and enjoyment, coz i dont really believe in luck of playing and bettings..i use to try gamble wayback but seems like its just a waste of money,u will win aometimes.but losses many times.so why gamble when u knew that stake of loasing is more than winnings.
Gambling is really more on losing stake, some people says that being lucky is not true, but I know that lucky is there. If you are lucky you can win often in playing gambling, I experience it one time that I just try to gamble and just enjoy, but suddenly I won so I want to play again just to continue of having fun, but I just won again so maybe that is just my lucky day, cause most of the time when I play I am always losing.  Grin So being lucky for me if true.  Cheesy
It is not like that being lucky is not true, being lucky everytime is not true, a person will face defeat at some stage of life or gambling because this is how things are in real world. Everyone has to get a taste of failure regardless of the activity he or she is involved in. Above all, luck is not very benevolent and merciful everytime, it happens very rare that someone hits a jackpot.
1505  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading altcoin and holding bitcoin which one is more profitable? on: October 06, 2017, 05:09:17 PM
Both are profitable.but I like  to do altcoin trade.its gives me much profit instead of holding bitcoin.last month i earned about $400 from Monaco trading.its only possible for altcoin trade.I am a crypto trader so i like to do altcoin trade mostly instead of bitcoin holding.
In order to earn a good amount of profit from altcoin trading, the person must have a great amount of a particular altcoin also. Otherwise, holding one or two monaco cannot give that big a profit within a month. However, if a person had bought a bitcoin last month when the price was 3200 dollars and hold it for a month, he would have earned a profit of almost 1100$. If a person does not have good trading skills or is a lazy one, hodling is better.
1506  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin dead? on: October 06, 2017, 01:43:24 PM
    No offcourse not!
Bitcoins are not dead ..and now u have the... Reason to believe my statement because recently the price is sky rocketing not..as high as it was.. once but for sure.. its gonna increase day by day.
Also due of the ban of ICO's in China they.. had to go through a big loss and they Also recovered quite fast..
You should stop worrying about it because thats what their nature is.
Bitcoin is alive!!! It has been proclaimed dead many times yet bitcoin continue to survive. Despite all the challenges and negative issue thrown to bitcoin, still bitcoin stands firm. It shakens a bit but not falter. Thus could only prove that no one can control bitcoin and that bitcoin is unstoppable! It will survive more than my lifetime.Smiley
I agree to that. A lot of people declare that bitcoin is dead because of the recent bad news that makes the price goes down but even that is the pattern of bitcoin through the years, it is still standing strong and getting even stronger for the past few years and bitcoin doesn't giving signs of weak spots so i think bitcoin will not become dead even after a lot of years.
Bitcoin has been through such times in the past also but it didn't die rather its popularity among the commons increased. This time, nothing was much different from that. Again it has become more famous and now its community has larger number than ever. Anyone who is even thinking about killing it or defeating it, is just wasting his time in doing the impossible.

1509  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is Holding Bitcoin a long time good way to make money? on: October 04, 2017, 11:12:24 AM
Actually it is depand on holder who is collecting bitcoin for long time. If he can trade he can earn by it. If he has enough money he can hold it for the long time. The demand of bitcoin is increasing day by day. So if he hold for long time he can get more currency.
Really depends on who is catering this situation. If you are going with a strong plan of earning much more than yes holding always profits you as current scenario of market. But if you just want to earn little profits at daily rates then surely holding is not going to be profitable for you. It all depends on the plan and strategy, so make it wisely.
1510  Economy / Economics / Re: Can Bitcoin End World Poverty? on: October 04, 2017, 10:53:14 AM
It may or may not be able to do that. The thing is bitcoin is virtual currency and is used by those who know the internet and technology stuff. The poverty relates to people who are under developed or doesn't know much of the lesisure things in the world. There are no other people who will take their bitcoins and will donate to poor people for advancing their lifestyle.
We have the same thought. I think bitcoin can't end the world poverty but it might be lessen. We know that poor people have don't have enough money to get internet or gadgets to access bitcoin because even their daily food is a problem. I think bitcoin can only help to develop the economy of that country because it can lessen the unemployment rate.
I also believe that bitcoin will not end world poverty but it will lessen it somehow. Not everyone is same with the status of living or way of source of income. Others are employed, other are not. And I believe that bitcoin can help lessen unemployment rate because it will give job to them, and will help them to earn income.
Nothing can end the poverty of world it have been rule of nature that there are some who are rich enough, some are just rich, some are medium, some are poor, some are much poor and some are living just a life of misery so whatever you say, bitcoin can help governments to minimize the poverty ratio but can never kill the poverty word.
1511  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why is gambling so addicting? on: October 03, 2017, 02:17:28 PM
What I heard about how people get addicted to gambling is due to the fact that people who gamble is thinking that gambling can make them rich. Also the excitement and thrill when they gamble. Sometimes there are people who only gamble to escape reality with a promise of possible fortune. Almost anyone can be attracted by a promise of wealth. And with it can draw people to get addicted.
Everyone have the same purpose mostly in making money instantly in gambling.
That is the most attractive factor , you cannot avoid about that too right? Really a simple way to live this short life.
But they are mostly did not responsible too , and just creates a lot more problem.

Not everyone share the same purpose. Perhaps that you think it is the only purpose from gambling but for me there are something different. For me it will be to have fun. As long as I am still having fun then I think that Im fine with that purpose but for some people they dont feel satisfied unless they win alot of money everytime they gamble
Not all but majority tries to make money out of it. They want to become rich overnight. It is true and many gamblers have confessed it also. I have heard more stories of profit seeking gamblers than fun seekers. Definitely, if someone can make money without doing anything, he will take the chance no matter how much risk it involves. Gambling offers this chance.
1512  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Benefits from Gambling on: October 03, 2017, 01:44:08 PM
You mentioned you are gambling for 10 years and telling us not to get addicted lol. There is no benefits from gambling it just turns most of the people's mind for greed they start thinking that if i double or triple i can live a jobless life but they don't see that in gambling one can even lose. Always control gambling or stay away

Most people can be affected this way, but some people are benefited from gambling, like OP. If you start gambling trying to learn and worring less about money you can improve your mental skills. Gambling is very tempting, if you are able to pass a personal test like that (temptation), you are able to pass for almost any difficult and situation in your life.
Why do you want to gamble to improve your mental skills there are several other ways gambling surely works faster but there is no guarantee of it being effective you can even become a addict instead of improving your mental skills
Gambling does not improve mental skills and honestly, I don't even know what mental skills are. If it means to have a sharper mind than before, gambling won't do this. However, poker players have good analytical skills. They can read all the details of a person and predict his thoughts with accuracy. In order to acquire a sharp mind, do as much math as possible.
1513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think are the biggest disadvantages of Bitcoin? on: October 03, 2017, 01:30:12 PM
I think the biggest problem its not the bitcoin code, the biggest problem in this moment its the difficult to buy bitcoin from a safe exchange, the technical knowledge needed to set up a wallet, and the difficult to use a digital currency in the physical world.
Yes of course decentralized bitcoin is the biggest disadvantage .Apart from it many people still do not believe in bitcoin, because it is a virtual currency, I mean a crypto digital currency and has no physical structure. So peoplecannot see the volume of bitcoin.

That’s why people do not believe in bitcoin. The other disadvantage is that bitcoin is in today’s era is just an imaginary coin.
It is weird but I find this a lot, some people think that bitcoin is like the currencies that you get in those RPG games and treat it as if it is not real when in fact most of the transactions around the world are digital like, bank transfers, paypal, paying bills from your phone, credit card purchases and others.

yes thats right they dont see bitcoin as like that they know that it is just as an imaginary some think that this is not real scam or any negative thoughts about bitcoin. You can see the advantage of bitcoin if you believe on it.
It is always belief that must be taken in account while determining the advantages and disadvantages of bitcoin. If you have a strong belief in bitcoin then you are definitely getting a lot of benefits from it. If you believe that bitcoin are just a scam or fraud you can never get benefits from it. Well I believe in them and I am earning a lot of money online from them.
1514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has no role in real world on: October 03, 2017, 01:14:27 PM
when bitcoin has no real-world role why bitcoin exists?
and now I still enjoy the bitcoin given to me, because bitcoin is real.
Who says that bitcoin have no role in the real world? I have seen a lot of people changed after getting involved in bitcoin, most of my friends and colleagues have left their regular jobs for bitcoin because they are earning more money here by trading and selling their products for bitcoin.
1515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in College??? on: October 03, 2017, 01:06:03 PM
Bitcoin will turn into part of the special discussion in the Bachelor of Science and Business Administration classes they will discover the advantages and how to make an expense from bitcoin. I have witnessed a single The quantity of on-line classes for Blockchain engineering, but I can not give you any feedback on that, because I have not tried out it yet. Your ideal guess now would be to acquire some textbooks on the topic and also to analysis your topic online.
It is already being taught in some universities at bachelor’s level to students. Students have shown a great interest in these bitcoin and some have started making money online through bitcoin. They sale/purchase various products online for bitcoin and other cryptos.
1516  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What to do when prices are falling on: October 02, 2017, 10:41:20 AM
    hodl and buy more  Cheesy
You have although said quite few words but you have given the best advice. I will agree to what all you have said. I think the best way to cash those moments is by buying as many Bitcoins as you can at the time when prices are falling down. This will be the decision which you’ll be satisfied with the most in the future.
    oh yeah,
this is good for us to buy when the prices are pretty low. but the really good thing is that when you sell your bitcoin when you feel that price is pretty much high, and then again buy bitcoin when price become goes down, and in this way just enjoy your profit.

Exactly. Never panic. Think for the long term because it will be beneficial if you can take advantage of any drops to add bitcoins at a much lower price. More profit for the future
When prices are going down hold the coins you have in wallet and buy the new one as much as you can because sooner the prices will go high and give you blow of profit so that you will feel proud on your decision of holding and buying new ones and remember one thing buy low sell high this make successful profiteer.

Try to make a good decision and do not sell your coins even at the lowest price because that is the reason why you lose your profit, It is because of your fear, Instead try to read more articles and good news about your coins to ease the hard time you were dealing with.
I don’t say it about other coins but what bitcoin have showed in history better to hold it in hard times. When it is time of falling the price rates, best strategy is to hold for a week or so or until the prices are getting back to their own positions. Bitcoin are always going up so there is a surety that it will rise again. So just hold in falling it rofits.

1517  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Reaction on: October 02, 2017, 10:16:10 AM
I just thought about a little theory. When I usually tell friends or people in general about cryptocurrencies and that they need to inform themselves about the subject the feedback is 90% positive. People realize that cryptocurrencies is the next "big thing". So back to my theory. In recent days there were a lot of discussions about Jamie Dimon CEO of JP Morgan spreading FUD. So if he actually gets people aware of crypto even by bad publicity won't it be positive for the market despite causing a price drop by panic sellers. So do you think even bad news about crypto in the wider media will drive the market up in the long run because it makes people aware?

In the long run, yes a bad publicity like the one we experienced from that man named Jamie Dimon can actually help in raising awareness for cryptocurrency in general. However, there is that short-term bad effect because there are some who look up to the man as he is a CEO of a big firm known worldwide. Anyway, he is eventually exposed as just a shameless brat because his firm is actually working with clients who are into Bitcoin.
It always happen I must say there are hundreds of stories about all charming entities that happened in history. There are eventually notorious bugs and rumors created so that the fame of that particular entity can be spoiled enough. So, same happened with bitcoin as you said that guy Jamie did. Still, we are happy that was exposed as well and now things are okay.

1518  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling. Is It Wrong? on: October 01, 2017, 03:49:51 PM
Nothing wrong with gambling. The wrong is person who threw away his money because dreaming of getting alot money in a short time from gambling. If gambling is just for fun, maybe that's a good thing to do.
but its not the majority of gamblers the most are always seeking to win an easy money thinking that inside gambling they can easily doubled their money
the best to think is gambling should be not as bad as we think if we knew how to control our emotion and treat it as sort of enjoyment.
Gambling is wrong or not, it depend on your view, your goverment and your culture. At my country, Gambling is the most cause lead to social evil like steal, rob, kidnap,... So if it's bad at that community , it will be prohibited by the goverment and you can be busted if you're gambling. Sex and gambling are the most cause lead to Social Evil at 3rd countries if you guys don't know about it.
Anything that brings harm to you, your family or society comes under the definition of wrong deed in my dictionary at least. If we look at gambling and its effects, they are not really cherishing ones rather frightening.
I will strongly oppose one more thing. 3rd world countries are not that bad. If you check the rape rate then America comes in top 10 countries.
It is very unfair to always pass statements which make third countries look like slums. It is not right. This way, a person is portraying a bad picture of such areas in the minds of innocents.
Now coming back to the main topic, I also consider gambling as a wrong deed, especially when someone is playing it for earning money. This way, it becomes more deadly.
1519  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: can gambling give you lessons in life? on: October 01, 2017, 03:31:15 PM
There is, the teaching i get from gambling is that potentially become poor with gambling and one more thing, i am just suicidal because become emotional while money has run out. So my stress level, could increase to be severe.
When people are so blind that they try to earn by placing some bets in some random games, then it is difficult to make them understand that this is not going to work. Their greed overtakes them and playing even after losing a lot will definitely make the person a poor. Due to financial stress, it is not unexpected to see someone committing suicide or wishing for this. Therefore, gamble for just fun only now and then.
    1520  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker on: October 01, 2017, 03:21:11 PM
I played from 2012 to 2015, but couldn't turn it in to a main source of income, just probably didn't put in enough effort. I thought I might take another chance. So to people who have been playing online poker since early 2010s or even earlier, what is the biggest change that happened in the game in terms of how people play (more TAGs, less fish, wider 3bet range pre-flop,etc.) and how games changed on major poker rooms(structure, user base, rake, etc.)?

I have never tried site poker; I always play it in land based casinos. If you have left playing the game, does that matter how much changes have been made in gambling sites now? Poker is a gambling game and no doubt if someone has someone has good strategies, then he can win most of the times. This is what I have experienced in real environment. Sites have always an edge over the player.
