They claim to ship July 10 I guess, so right about when the first SP30s will be shipping, give
or take a week or two.

543  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 02, 2014, 05:47:57 AM
My opinion, bring on the negativity, is they should have donated ALL the SilkRoad
coins to a fund to be spread out proportionally to pay back all the MTGOX
victims.
544  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: July 02, 2014, 05:29:02 AM
While comparing miners here:

Bitmains S3 is basically the competitor to the sp10.

However, I have no doubt that bitmain will come up with a fully rackmountable 4U 1-2kW solution with 0.5W/GH at the wall.
This will in turn be the main competitor to the sp30, and should not require a preorder.

Exciting times, letīs see how it goes.

How so? SP10 are not for sale anymore and are much more expensive/less efficient/less home friendly than an s3. Also don't forget that 0.77w/gh is before underclocking. I wouldn't be surprised if the S3 was already capable of 0.5w/gh at the wall.

9btc buys you 6TH in 2 weeks or ~3 months. It's a pretty simple choice if you ask me.

Where do you get these numbers on which is a better value?
What is your fetish with Antminer and Rockminer? Its like comparing a 10 year old 22" brick of an monitor with a
new LG LED.  You could have something that takes up an entire 6 foot shelf or something that fits in a 2U server rack slot.

What does it cost you to run 12 S3 units?
Lets look at that shall we?

You are going to need at least 6 BIG power supplies.
So that 2 S3 units for 1.5BTC is now more like 2 units for closer to
1.8BTC with a good 1000W minimum Corsair power supply.
So, now you are at near 11BTC for all the hardware.
Thats abouot $7000 at current exchange.
SP30 at the group buy was MUCH cheaper.  $4500 ring a bell?

NOW, at my current hosting location, I can run my SP30 for $150 a month on 208V power
and around 20 - 22 degree temps.  It doesn't matter if it uses 100 or 10,000 KWH.

Lets add up the power usage of the S3.
12 S3 units at 370W each = roughly 4,500 Watts.
Now, Im going to give you a VERY generous power rate at 10C.
I know most people here are paying around 15C.
That is nearly $330 a month in power.  Plus the amount of space
and tangled cables you need to run 12 is ridiculous compared to taking up
2U of space at my data center.

AND, I think unless BTC hits a stable $800 and NEVER drops, mining other ALT coins is
going to be much more profitable VERY soon.  If megabitpower adds their 50PH of hashing
to the BTC network per month like they want to do, well to hell with BTC mining.  Its dead.
Let the fuckers have it.

I got a baller stack of these bills somewhere.

546  Economy / Scam Accusations / BEWARE of Localbitcions.com - My account was hacked and BTC was stolen on: July 01, 2014, 03:04:07 AM
Yesterday I got what I thought was an email from localbitcoins.com administrators.  It in fact turned out to be a phishing
scam which I didn't realize until after I clicked on the phishing link.  The following is the email I received.
I know its not much but I say its open season to go after these guys and steal anything back from them that they have.
If you steal like that from someone I say you deserve to have 100X stolen back from you.

Just split anything you get with me.  LOL.  Yah I can dream right.

LocalBitcoins.com (automated message)

Immediately after I realized what happened I changed my password and even went as far as resetting the google authenticator 2 form factor authentication so it would be on a new authentication string for extra caution.

I then immediately submitted a ticket to Localbitcions.com alerting them about what I received and to inform them
that their could be potential hackers attacking their website.

I figured that all was well and I would be safe.  Id reset my password AND reset the two form factor authentication so they would need my phone to do anything with my account right.  I WAS WRONG!!!

About 2 hours later, I noticed my wallet balance at Localbitcoins was ZERO.  Now, I only lost 0.5BTC but this was just a kick in my chest to think that even with the two form factor authentication AND a new password that was 32 characters long and has everything from uppercase, lowercase, numbers, special characters, EVERYTHING, it was still hacked in less than 2 hours.

NOW I was just fuming.  I opened another ticket with Localbitcoins.com to tell them
what just happend after I told them their site may be compromised.

Here is the transaction if anyone can do anything with it.

The replies I got back made me even more upset and untill now, the staff at Localbitcoins.com has not compensated
me for an anauthorized access of my account from ANOTHER COUNTRY.  I live in Japan and proved the IP address my PC was using.
Then what shocked me was their staff sent me all the transaction logs and the IP addresses from the attackers so to me its opens season on these guys.  Ill be posting in the bitcointalk forums to get the guys who have fun with that stuff to track these guys down if they can.

So, the part that has upset me the most is the COMPLETE lack of security at their website.

I had two form
factor security set up and they still managed to log into my account and send off the funds from my wallet.

When they replied to me they said they would not help me and would not compensate me to return the stolen funds.
This is beyond unacceptable to me.

1st, their site security is obviously VERY VERY lax.  I reset my password and it was hacked at the site in minutes.
2nd, their security is obviously not very good when they can bypass the two form factor authentication.  I mean my phone is in Japan and the attackers were in the USA.  Obviously the hackers were able to access the website to pull
information they needed to bypass the 2 form factor authentication or to reproduce mine.
3rd, they have no security to protect you account when people log in from a completely different country
 and they dont
stop them.  They dont have ANY kind of protection that locks your account when such a login after unsuccessful logins occur from ANOTHER country.  Such a thing should lock your account and require you to authenticate your identity from
an email from the site and a call or text to your registered telephone number.

The whole thing stinks to me and I wonder how many other people have been hacked.

Im including the unauthorized access to my account as well just as an FYI for you if you can do anything with it.

Also on a final note, I just noticed that after my complaints to the site yesterday, they now require a human verification
captcha login requirement AFTER they got hacked and my BTC was stolen.  I think its all too little too late and they are a prime target for hackers and are doing nothing to protect its customers, and will do nothing after their customers are robbed:

Here are replies I got form the site:
Ive added notes to what IP was me and what was the one who hacked the site.

Please tell us what IP is the one from the attacker since there is many different and we only can recognize the one who withdraw your funds:
Really admin idiots?  You cant tell WHO withdrew the funds?
Obviously the one that says SEND FROM WALLET and the one who was NOT me changing my password
like I told you I would do to prove what PC and IP I was using at home.  FKNG idiots!!!

Hi,,

We can not reimburse your loss , since we are not responsible for where you click or the security breach you have in your device.
If the attacker got your authentication code by the phishing email I would suggest you to create a new account.

Best regards,
Edgar

In response to:

IT is impossible they got the NEW 2FA code because I JUST CHANGED it mins after I got the email.

AFTER I got the email, and yes I did click on the link I got, I saw that the address was not localbitcoins.com
and immediatley sent you the first case where I reported getting the email.

THEN, I changed my password seconds after I clicked on the link and realized it was a phishing site, AND I reset the 2 form factor authentication so it was on a new authentication string.  How could they have that?

EVEN doing that, they still hacked your website and my account.

HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

Here is what I want.
I want my 0.5BTC returned to me at this address:

1JxiQk4V1jgDSbWNMi2rgQL76hNbX1vFQC

I dont want to use this website again when it can be hacked so easily.

I TOLD YOU that I got something fishy, expected something, went as far as changing my password
AFTER I clicked on that link, and resetting my 2 form authentication, and they STILL hacked
your website.  THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE.

If my 0.5BTC is not returned to me I will be reporting your website to the authorities in my
home city as FRADULENT.

This is unacceptable to me!!!

My question is HOW THE HELL did they seize the other 140K ish coins?
I mean, he doesnt have some backup of the wallets or they are like hot wallets
for the servers?
Either way, the fact they got them and the wallets werent encrypted and he doesnt
have some uber safe dark cloud storage of the wallets for cases like this is shocking.

Im amazed they got that many coins that easy and they were just sitting open on the
PCs or servers they seized them from?  Kinda shocking to me honestly but I dont know
the whole story yet.

@sidehack:

Sir:

Im trying to make this work:

Do you think a few PCI-E breakouts / adapters off the existing motherboard ATX connector and various
other connectors will work?

Anyone every tried using one of these server backplanes out of the DELL server?

It was pretty cheap compared to one of the 12V breakout boards and cables set.

Plus this powers both PSUs, only one needed.  I think I got it for $15 on Ebay.

If I got the full 700W each out of them, how many S3 miners do you think you can run
with the two?  These were 2850 PSUs

557  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: June 27, 2014, 03:28:36 AM
DO NOT BUY THESE ASICS!!! I keep telling you people!

Right now, at 13.4 billion difficulty, a 500 Ghash miner will get you 0.01868 BTC per day!  That's it!

And when the difficulty adjusts to 17.1 BILLION in 3 days, it will make 0.01471 BTC per day!

As of now it'll be 16.6 in 2.5 days.

M

We don't even know the price of the S3 yet. Bitmain was able to sell the S2 for around $250 shipped and still make a profit, and I would expect that their cost to product the S3 would be similar to what it cost them to produce the S1.

I'm sure Bitmain could get very aggressive with pricing if they wanted to, although the first batch will probably be overpriced. People tend to overpay for shiny new hardware.

Also, as we saw with the S2, it's also more of a gamble to buy the first batch of anything. It may take Bitmain a batch or two before they get all the kinks worked out.

S2 shipped for $250 WHERE?  If so Ill take 2 right now.

Any PSU experts looking here?
Id like to take that DELL PSU setup and run some of these possibly.

It only has one PCIE plug though and one more unknown plug that breaks out to SATA power.

Can you get adapters to go from the 24pin, I THINK, to fan out to multiple PCIE plugs?

Thanks
558  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: June 26, 2014, 10:57:37 PM
How would something like this work with a few PCIE splitters?

Do they make a splitter to get more PCIE cables off the larger ATX power plug?

Its two 700W Dell PSUs running on the server power backplane.

Im considering using this that I built for a never shipped BFL order
or just selling it if I dont buy any BITMAIN S3.

Why hosted? A real man keeps his miner in his house and uses it for a pillow.

I replaced my mattress with SP10s. Keeps me warm at night.

Call me a liar if you want, but I had BOTH of my SP10s in my bedroom / aka operations center
for almost 2 weeks till I got them hosted.  I miss the buzz but not the $30 a day electricity
bills.

Zvisha, what are the newest improvements to the firmware?
