If "Bitcoinica Consultancy" is handling things now, why didn't they notify us of the claims page rather than zhoutong? The more I hear from zhoutong, and less from intersango or whatever they call themselves, the more I lose confidence in the new owner/operators.
This +1. To start with, we never saw any communication from them indicating that anything that Zhoutong said was in any way incorrect, or that there was need of an apology to begin with. Of course, that could have been communicated privately, but from what I have seen so far even Zhoutong himself is becoming frustrated with the obvious stonewalling that we are seeing from the Consultancy. Indeed, stonewalling is the best description that I can imagine for this series of events; to the public, and to those that wish to fix the problems, as it appears - since access to even the domain name has been fraught with problems such as a poor DNS implementation, leading to those that don't even use the forum to be forced to come here and find out the problem, and wait here for a resolution. From what I've observed, I have a different perspective. The Intersango guys were brought to help with security not PR. For them to take any position of public communications would have been a breach of contract. The fact that Zhou had to become a team player for his creation caused him a lot of frustration. He was the main PR man up till the incident and should have followed through with a splash page and daily email updates (not just the forum), but instead we got a "I'm leaving Bitcoin" thread. He left when the going got tough. Sure, feelings were hurt and emotions were high. Zhou, if you really want to be proud of what you started then get back to doing the PR and be a team player even if you don't agree. You should leave Bitcoinica on much better conditions if it something you really want to be proud of! The "I'm leaving Bitcoin" has nothing to do with Bitcoinica hack. I'm still here, but I'm not doing other Bitcoin business any more. I was the main operator before Bitcoinica joins forces with Intersango. After that, neither the investor nor I possesses full decision power. Intersango guys took over the management entirely. Even my position in PR was not fully recognized. I did suggest some ideas internally, but I shouldn't have criticized them for different ways of doing things (even though I disagreed). They are working very hard, but at the same time, I have nothing to update either. I see. Thanks for the clarification. Edit: Looks like the whole Bitcoinica thing is going through a lot of growing pains. Glad to see you are still helping out 'till they are running smoothly again. If they truly make good on all lost coins and do their best to compensate everyone they will definitely earn all of my trust and respect back. However, the PR during the initial days was a fiasco and is still not where it should be. Still waiting for an email with all the news and a splash page with daily updates. I shouldn't have to find it here in this forum.

Bitmit is awesome and I enjoy using it, but it needs some growth. All the hot auction items only have a single bid and a lot of things go without ever being bid on. I know there is not a demand for everything, but I think some advertising or some real cheap bid promos or something could do a lot to get this site going. It needs some more action.
+1 However, we can't expect too much from tosaki for he has already done so much. I'm doing all I can to put as many items up and at the same time advertising my listings in non-bitcoin related forums. It's a grass roots effort and it will take time.

In November, an investor approached me to acquire Bitcoinica. Due to regulatory concerns, I agreed to the deal and signed the agreement. Bitcoinica was sold for a good price. However, since the investor is unable to arrange for a replacement team, I continued to become the sole operator until Team Intersango took over two weeks ago. The investor let me keep all profits until late January, the official handover time. After handover, he continued to offer generous salary and performance bonus every month.
Did you not retain any share in bitcoinica? It would have been a useful way of keeping an interest in the company while enabling you to detatch from anything related to the daily running of it. I could choose to but I didn't. There is regulatory risk and I want to avoid it as much as possible. Zhou, What is your current relationship with the Bitcoinica business? Have you already said your good byes? It's in a complete PR Fiasco right now and you have always been their PR man. It needs a splash page ASAP. Your announcements need to be sent out by email! not just here on the forum. And a blog spot with at least daily updates (can be brief). Please address this issue. Thanks.

Bitcoinica was a great service and day traders and speculators also add value to the economy. I think where we all agree is that currently the bitcoin economy is extremely out of balance with the majority wanting to day trade. That environment pits people against each other and there will always be loosers.
Time and continued maturity of Bitcoin will be the only cure.

Emotions are running high. Like money, this forum can be cold and heartless.
You will be missed, but I believe you will be back.
Good luck and thank you.

The important thing is who is liable for the customer deposits. It is Bitcoin. The original owners are liable for their 'own' bitcoins. If they chose to give that responsibility to someone else, it is on them. If we start holding 'others' responsible for the control of our money, lets just stick with the FED, Banks, CU's. They have a system already in place and there is no need to re-invent the wheel. Everyone likes pointing fingers but quite often forget to look in the mirror. The key word in the above quote is 'customer'. If the business wants to keep them, they'll come up with a solution to make them happy and relatively soon. But the 'customers' knew what Bitcoinica was when they put money into them, so it is their liability. Did anyone ever lose a wallet with everything in it? Who are you the most mad at? Be honest. Yourself. So easy to say when it's not you that lost coins, but it is true. As much as I liked Bitcoinica and wished for their success, I never felt uncomfortable leaving deposits with them for an extended period of time. Just be grateful for any reimbursement you get. I'm now hoping for some competition to rise out of this dust.

Fear of the "unknown". It's a common human response. But yeah, I'm really curious to understand exactly what makes up the unknown. Who are they? What are their intentions?

I have a question about Open ID.
Why are some against it? I'm trying to understand a little about the topic and cannot find anything really wrong with the idea.
Since bitminter is one of the few bitcoin sites that use openId, I decided to post my question here.
Thanks

Ron Paul seems pretty busy with the election. Maybe after its over you will have some good luck.
To me, you already have his complete opinion about Bitcoin. He supports freedom in currency. It's a currency born in the market place. It doesn't use any coercion of law to operate. Therefore, he's in complete support.
However, for him to endorse its use, most likely it would be too technical for Ron to really get interested.

This BIP does call for more complex code (but not impossible) for the rewards to be handled as proposed. I've tried to stay away from the details of code implementation in the BIP because it just opens another can of worms for everyone to argue over which seems pointless until it reaches mass consensus. However, since you bring it up... do you have an idea how hard it would be for the average developer to come up with an implementation like this? Just curious.
My opinion, is it would only take a few days, but could get take longer if there's a difference of opinion between developers (i.e. BIP16 vs. BIP 17).
Even though I'm no programming guru, I know that the terms what and how are generally interchangeable when coding. If you want to figure out how to do something, you need to be very precise about what you want to do. It seems almost dishonest to wait for broad consensus before revealing exactly what you want done. I've seen it happen IRL where a company marketing department wastes incredible amounts of money because they have more say about product development than the engineers do. +1, I wish more people recognized this problem. "It seems almost dishonest to wait for broad consensus before revealing exactly what you want done"Didn't mean for it to come across dishonest. I fully support Bitcoin the way it is now and I would also support any scheme that moves to a more frequent block reward decrease assuming they keep the overall injection rate the same over the same time period. My initial desire was to just write a good "general" BIP without too many details and let the community pick it up and run with it. That would be ideal for me.

Anyone have an idea as to why the reward drops are so sharp. Any theory as to why the drop isn't monthly, but in smaller portions?
My only guess is it was easier to do at the time (I consider that this was a hobby project at first, and corners were cut).
There's a BIP for this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=70117.0Looking into it, I discovered it was more of a very friendly programming way of doing it. I mean...c'mon, do you really think they had the vision it would get to where it is now? I'm sure in hindsight, they would have done some things a lot differently, but I don't think it matters because if anything ever becomes a serious enough issue, we'll just update!

Yes, relevant.
How did you get ahold of these so cheap, and how many do you have? I'm going to bid just so I can play with it, but I might need two.
Sorry, i only have a set in 418 MHZ and a set in 433 Mhz. I had them for a while for a project. That project will never materialize. The funny thing is, I was trying to figure out what I would do with them today and ran into this thread. Pure coincidence! I paid full price and I'm glad to liquidate them to someone who will put them to good use.

Can't believe this crap has more value than Litecoin.
It's because there are very few players who own solidcoin money. Maybe 3 or 4. I doubt more. If anyone of these players wanted to cash out or buy something, their market would crash or they would be passing the solidcoin burden to one their associate con men. Any wealth held in solid coin is an illusion. They might even make the price skyrocket, but just ignore it because it represents phony wealth.

Found a bug. When I post a picture that is extremely small (my mistake) like the ones used for icons then I cannot remove them. It shows the red X, but it disappears when I try to click on it.
Update: it's the listing for the mag light flashlight.

I noticed the adult stuff is back, but with the pictures censored. Trying to appease both markets is understandable; however, the amount of adult stuff almost fills the entire front page.
It would be nice if there was a single item entry for adult content instead of multiples (it could even be stickied on the top) that would have a generic description for adult content. Once it is clicked on, a warning message box pops up and then everything including adult content loads up. Many may find it annoying to have to scroll past a barrage of adult material even with it partially censored.
Also, it would be nice for those starting new accounts to have adult content censored by default instead of the other way around.
thanks for your service. I'm excited for its continued development.

Thanks for the updates regarding adult content. That helps a lot. Now I can get back to work with my kids around I got a notice today that one of my items sold, but there's not record of it anywhere. Do you know what may have happened? What's the general procedure for an item selling, but the buyer never came through? It would be nice to be able to remove those items or relist them. Thanks
