261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MINT]Mintcoin, Energy Saving Coin *24 Exchanges *37 Merchants on: March 31, 2014, 05:43:03 PM
The more I read this thread, the more I like the coin. THAT tells me it has a great community, or FANTASTIC marketing. Either way, a good foundational start to a good investment.

The name is great, the color scheme and logo is great and is very flexible, the dev team communicates and is actively promoting the coin in the right places...I see a lot of potential here for long term growth, and possible unforeseen short-term explosive growth depending on luck and marketing windfalls.

Glad I invested a good chunk of my total portfolio back at 14-16! Might buy even more if it goes back to the basement again. This coin, and CleanWaterCoin are my two current favorites for growth potential and sustainability (if CleanWaterCoin chooses a more efficient mining method in the near future, which the dev team is currently looking in to).

My home state had a tragic event and are accepting Bitcoin donations on the town website...why not Mintcoin donations?
http://town.darrington.wa.us/Landslide+Donations

I am sorry to hear that this happened :/ That is a great idea, though. Perhaps we can contact them and propose they accept mintcoins: http://town.darrington.wa.us/Contact+us

How difficult/expensive would it be for them to implement a Mintcoin payment/donation method directly on their site (I don't know these things, seems like it wouldn't be too much though)? If it would help- and this pertains to all possible charity projects- we could propose to them that we will set a community MINT donation goal, raise it at a different location than their site (e.g. raise it on the Mintcoin Foundation website) and then donate the money to them once we have reached that goal (similar to how doge4water worked). That way they wouldn't be burdened with setting up a new donation/payment method (assuming it is at all a burden, like I said I don't really know..).

Also. I was thinking, once the Mintcoin Foundation is up and running and some projects have been decided on, we could have separate donation addresses for different charity causes- this would allow individual donors to choose directly which project they support with their donations.

Edit: While I'm on topic- please consider donating to the Mintcoin Fund http://www.mintcointalk.com/index.php/topic,415.0.html !

Why not just have them download a wallet and post a big public deposit address on the website/Facebook page? Direct all marketed traffic to that address and voila.

+1. I was over thinking it. I was thinking more in terms of how difficult/costly would it be to set up a mintcoin donation button on their website like the one for bitcoin.

For some projects I still think the idea of setting specific fundraising goals and collecting donations at the mintcoin foundation site, where each cause can have its own address allowing for people to choose between the charities they want to support, and then sending out the raised funds once the goal is met would be useful (for example, for a project which requires a minimum amount of money to be raised before it can work/start). Also, I think there is something psychological about working towards and achieving a preset goal. And if we eventually have multiple charity funds being raised then it would be nice to have them in a centralized location so people can easily see and access them all. Seems like this landslide donation, and other disaster reliefs, would certainly be better implemented in the manner you just outlined because they need the money asap and any little bit will help.

This would be an excellent project for any number of non-profit start-ups. It is a logical step since people like spending little bits of their coins at colorful websites, so they might as well do it for a good cause or two, or three...those coins add up quickly when you have enough traffic.

I proposed on CleanWaterCoin's thread that they add a donation pop-up to the wallet, so that when incoming coins enter the wallet, a little pop-up asks you if you want donate a % to so-and-so public wallet fund. This would be an effective and efficient way to get funds rolling in to charity accounts (or scam artist accounts, if you aren't careful). They can even get a nice little gif and sound effect going so that people like hitting the donate button.

264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [LAUNCHED] CleanWaterCoin POW+POS | 1st Nonprofit Organization Coin on: March 31, 2014, 05:40:20 AM
This coin has MASSIVE potential to make money for both investors and for the charity they support.

The non-profit application is GOLD for getting press in the coming weeks. Journalist's LOVE being the first to cover the next "tech that's good for humanity" stuff. If the charity fund draws in enough money to legitimately help ANYONE who needs clean water, and there is press there to see/film/write about it, then it is a solid bet that there will be a new "sure thing" coin investors can feel GOOD about investing in. (Greed is much better served on a plate bought at a charity auction. ;p). This means more money, which means more water, which means more press, which means more money, which means....

We all have seen the potential for crypto-currencies to create new avenues to funnel much needed money to charity causes by tapping in to people's desire to trade up! While it is really nice to see coins sending a team to the Olympics and such, imagine the impact of seeing fresh water brought to thirsty kids! It is GREAT to be part of new and innovative avenues to bring prosperity and much needed physical resources to people who would otherwise be lacking of both, all just by trying to make a buck! This crypto-coin phenomenon has a lot of potential to fundamentally change the flow of revenue to new demographics, and ensure it is not just lining the pockets of bankers who turn around and loan it out to those who actually need it at outrageous interest!

All that is standing in the way of one of these charity coins surpassing everyone's expectations and changing people's lives is a team of hardworking, honest developers, some good marketing, and others along the way willing to push it along when their help is required. I hope that this team can live up to those requirements and that investors are aplenty.

I am excited about a few coins for various reasons, but this is the only one I have been excited enough about to break my own rule and invest in pre-launch without knowing anyone on the development team from any previous projects or partnerships. As an investor, the marriage of charity causes and high-risk potential for HUGE profits is a no-brainer. The potential for profit is exciting, and the potential for passively helping a good cause is icing on the cake. The Non-profit app submission, good communication by the dev team, phone numbers, locations, etc made public....it was enough to entrust a relatively small amount of BTC to get on board the train early and just hope the tracks don't run out.

And IDEA:I would like to see a pop-up when I receive incoming coins to my wallet, asking me if I would like to donate whatever % to the public charity fund wallet. I can imagine a LOT of people would be willing to donate that way. You just need to gain trust, and that can be done by doing exactly what you already said you were going to do and proving you did it. =)

One last thing, it is IMPERATIVE that this coin use the most power-efficient mode of mining possible, for obvious reasons. You don't want to preach environmentalism and drive a monster truck.

I'll be watching this one closely, as will a lot of others, I am sure. Do it right, and it will EXPLODE. Do it wrong, and....well, most of us have already seen it done wrong and know where the coin ends up. =)

I wish this team and this coin the BEST of luck and will support this coin publicly until I am given reason to cease doing so.

Thank you to all the new supporters and community members.

I've updated the Pre-Launch Coin Investor totals and sent out emails to all the new comers. You can view totals and details on the spreadsheet linked below. BTC total as of this post is 2.679 so there are lots of coins up for grabs still!

Click the above link to view shares of the Pre-Launch Coins. If you've sent BTC and don't see your PLC ID number listed, or you haven't recieved a PLC ID number, please send us a PM and we will help you out!

Nice project development, and good work getting the Non=profit status BEFORE launching the coin. =)

I will invest 0.1 BTC pre-launch. Always nice to see investment money go towards a good cause while bolstering the product itself.
267  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TAKCoin REBRANDED . TOLERANCE. ACCEPTANCE. KNOWLEDGE [TAK] is Back. SHA256 on: March 28, 2014, 10:02:48 PM
I have been following the press efforts of some of the other coins with "causes", such as Mazacoin. They have big name press due to the "sovereign currency for the Native Americans" thing going for them, whether it's true or not. (Sadly, the price manipulation and block rewards seem to be countering the positive press).

I was wondering how much effort on the developers side of things there has been to get press interviews from mainstream sources? I can see this coin having a much better chance than most of getting some huge positive press due to the human rights message. The first big "Gay Rights" coin is going to probably end up STAYING the big "Gay Rights" coin, so it is important to get the first press coverage. The coin definitely  has it's niche in the market. While the focus of the coin could be to a wider range of charitable causes overall, LGTB causes get lots of both liberal and conservative news play, with moderates and independents making up the other large demographics politically who are just waiting to jump on the right horse. This fits in with a lot of investor profiles! Lots of possibility out there that has yet to be tapped.

Are there any "personality" devs working on this coin that can do camera interviews and do a good job representing the coin? Any attempts to set up press interviews to speak of? I think news agencies would like the "Here we are, interview us now and follow up with us later when we deliver the coins/money to the charity" line of reporting. They have used that same format for a few other coins already.

{Edit} I have since realized you can click on the names of the various developer team members to see their bios. Great support!

I have been silently following a few coins since I spread my portfolio out from BTC in February. It has been difficult to keep my opinions to myself, but I like to watch and learn the ropes of any market for awhile before opening my big mouth.

I can say that the alt-coin world is very, very exciting, but like TAK coin and many others, is currently suffering under blatant organized price manipulation for short term gains. The only way to combat this is to gain massive buy support and hold it. That is difficult to do without almost constant market exposure and positive feedback, especially now as the market gets flooded with new coins put out there by people who are getting more and more savvy at marketing and finding openings in to ad demographics that may be difficult for non-established marketing partnerships to enter. I applaud your willingness to try.

I am taking the time to post to TAK coin as opposed to other coins due to the human rights themed mission. It seems to me that the LGTB rights community is growing larger and gaining more mainstream acceptance and momentum year by year. They are at the forefront of the human rights movement in developed countries, and that influence is spreading to non-developed countries more and more. Human rights are very much entwined with financial equality, and since the fiat world has been controlled by the central banking cartels since at least 1913, so have human rights been kept in check by the owners of our resources. With those two issues in mind, the marriage of alternative currencies and human rights movements is a no-brainer. THAT is one fundamental reason this coin could end up being a worthwhile investment. Sure, you may make some money off it in the long run, but how often can you make money off ANYTHING and feel good about it? Buying low and holding coins such as these are feel-good purchases that bolster and support a burgeoning alt-economy market.

I wish I had marketing ties that would help this coin get the audience it needs. Until then, I will simply lurk and support the mission as long as there are people working to bring it to fruition.

Since I live in a University town with vocal LGTB rights groups active in the area, I can put out some feelers to see if there is any interest in the use or adoption of an alt-currency. Who knows, maybe a grass-roots approach could see positive long-term effects!

{edit} I emailed a friend who is very very active in the LGTB and Stonewall community around here (Northern California). Hopefully she will be able to point me toward people who want to adopt TAK. If so, I will point them directly towards the website. I already sent my friend the links and explained what the project is all about.

{edit} She is going to "put it out there". Little ripples....

Hey guys just an update. As you know our long term plan includes TAK Hub which will be released in June. That said we're going to develop a short term plan to build some momentum over the next week/months.

We will develop a 3 month business plan and release a new one every three months. We want our supporters to see exactly what's going on behind the scenes. Our plans, our goals and reached milestones.

3 month plan - http://www.reddit.com/r/TAKcoin/comments/2166k2/takcoin_game_plan_323_630/

Hello!

I am an early supporter and holder of this coin. I was sad to see that the negative press pertaining to crypto-currencies in general had a negative impact on relations with the public figureheads we were hoping would support the coin. Obviously, for anyone who invested at higher prices during initial interest, it has been rough watching the price drop dramatically. I was betting on Takei being forward-minded and not being controlled by his public image handler, but I think that I, and many others, were expecting way too much too soon from someone who probably knows very little about the crypto currency phenomenon as a whole to begin with. The coin needed public/viral support BEFORE having his face attached to it. That was the key mistake made, and many others called it out right away, while many others of us hoped it would work out in the end with George endorsing the coin. When it didn't happen, most jumped ship. I have waited and watched with the rest of us.

As an investor, I am used to seeing companies face drawbacks as one relation or another with an important partner or customer falls by the wayside for any number of reasons. The strong companies continue working on their product, knowing that it is easier to bring a product back by re-branding or re-imaging the product, than to start from scratch (though starting from scratch is sometimes necessary if the product has foundational flaws). How the business planners and execs EXECUTE new business models and bring about positive swings in market perspective is key. That being said, I have been happy to see constant updates from this coin's public relations, but somewhat perplexed by the lack of response to posts. I am attributing it to new-investor impatience. I guess I am used to thinking in the "long term", as far as the attention span and profitability expectation thresholds of the alt-currency crowd are concerned. "Long term" here is 6 months from now. That is not a long time for a chance on making large gains on an investment. That is short term in the fiat world.

However, what these companies also realize is that during re-branding, they need to keep consumers/customers up to date on developments. This means marketing and advertising. One negative factor of alt-coins is that many small development teams are completely lacking in the types of marketing strategies used to garner attention from the crypto-crowd's widely diverse range of cultural and generational interests. Everyone wants to make money, but not everyone is willing to buy something without it having a value they can personally connect with. That is where this coin's strengths lay. I hope it can be widely marketed as such. The large follower twitter feeds are a good start, and hopefully will be handled with great care and professionalism. I have not seen anything from the devs that would lead me to believe it will be handled badly. The PR has actually been good with this coin, but the behavior of many of the early adopters has been that of penny stock holders at a Texas BBQ Penny Stock Investors Conference.

What many of these alt-coin investors don't realize, is that this whole business side of alt-coins is backwards from real-world business practices. Currently, the urge is so strong to just "get a coin out there" that it is the norm to start a coin and develop the business plan for it as it goes along, usually by the seat of a few people's pants. They are ill-equipped to handle the expectations of a few thousand investors, and likely get tired very fast of these late-night miners and red-eyed day traders constantly PMing them in the middle of the night. This is a tough business to navigate, non-profit or not. I think the head developers have handled this well in light of the large drawbacks in the beginning of the coins life-cycle.

I am waiting to see the floor. I will buy more of this coin when I see the coin bounce off the floor a time or two, and when I see the first large-scale effort from the dev teams in terms of marketing and the new coding/product enhancements that are forthcoming according to the recent announcements. I hope the Hub has the community support it will need to make things move forward.

Thanks for the string of updates and for not just dropping everything on the holders.

-Chang
