Disclosure: I am googling serious security options. And getting a little paranoid.

Use startpage.com instead.

Edit 2: Bytecoin has ~36% of Monero's market cap and ~2.2% of Monero's hashrate with the same POW algorithm. Do the math.

Wouldn't it then be way more profitable to mine Bytecoin? I must be missing something here.

BTC-e plans on refunding its customers:

Are people actually getting 4-5% daily interest on lending BTC in polo??

Anyone try it? Is there a big risk of losing BTC?

100% risk to lose your BCC.

[...] maybe someone wants to buy a pizza without revealing their wallet size together with their real address etc.

If Bitcoin would have had an opaque blockchain, transparent blockchains would have been ridiculed for the exact scenario you are describing. Nobody wants to reveal their balance to everyone they spent their money with, but when paying in bitcoin it is somehow not considered an issue. It must be ignorance and unfortunately people will learn the hard way.

[...] just point the hairdryer at me for a couple of hours when we pass 10k.

Which coin?

Why would it matter? If he frozen for all that time, he'll still have both coins.

Well I keep on reading by some vocal posters that BCC is a shit coin. So I figured some might not care if actually BCC hit $10k first.

Which coin?

Why pump? Nice to see it, any good news of XMR?

Read back a few pages, big hedge fund bought in. Feds cannot do anything with monero wallet they seized and can't even figure out how much is in there yet they have all the btc, eth and zcrap.

Which is not a Monero specific feature, they have the wallet password or they don't. That they can't figure out the balance without a password is a Monero specific feature. And a very important one if you don't want anyone giving you a visit with a five dollar wrench after paying for a few pizzas (which subsequently reveals your balance).
1229  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 26, 2017, 08:58:34 PM
Sigh. If it earned you a few dollars, good for you. But please don't state features and facts that are simply not true.

Dash is fungible and private

and absolutely not a scam nor has it ever been.

and so on..
1230  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 26, 2017, 08:37:35 PM
Anyone calling Dash a "scam" nowadays only displays wilful ignorance.  If you'd like to educate yourself please come over to the Dark Coin ANN thread, otherwise please keep your libellous remarks to yourself.

A scam is a scam, it can't be unscammed by time. But more dangerously you are promoting a non fungible coin for its privacy features (a true contradictio in terminis). So please stick to your own advise and stay in your little echo chamber.

Sequoia and Andreessen Horowitz Are Secretly Backing This Cryptocurrency Hedge Fund" - Monero Mentioned

http://fortune.com/2017/07/26/bitcoin-cryptocurrency-hedge-fund-sequoia-andreessen-horowitz-metastable/

Not just mentioned:

Quote
[...] MetaStable owns about a dozen different cryptocurrencies, [...] Monero (of which the fund holds nearly 1%, or about $6 million worth, of all outstanding coins), according to a pitch deck seen by Fortune.

So within a very short time frame some big players in the space have been taken down because of fungibility issues: Alphabay, Bitmixer and now BTC-e. Never had to use these services but this might finally wake up the discussion about the importance of fungibility.

In the light of the recent exchange drama, did Bitfinex in the end resolve its banking issues (deposit/withdraw USD)?
1234  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 26, 2017, 03:30:32 PM
If the BTC-e story is true, what is the likely effect it will have on the price?

Will be minimal if any effect at all. This time gov-banking oligopoly couldn't confiscate bitcoin holdings of the exchange like they did to MtGox
[...]

Plus BTC-e would be the place to take your freshly acquired bitcoins to. So except from some nervous day traders this won't do much negatively for the price. Maybe even the opposite, the number of bitcoins that are actually being traded just got reduced.
1235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: July 25, 2017, 04:26:48 PM
It is happening, people. Read /r/DarkNetMarkets.  With n/m multisig in place, bitcoin will become a barbarous relic, and Monero will be the world currency.

Zooko had best get his wheels turning on Tezos, because Vitalik just stole another 80 millions, and ZEC is history.

The world is about to wake up and smell the coffee that has been brewing for the past 3 years.

I just do not understand how the mass of  people can be such dense, stiff-necked, blind sheep and yet not get slaughtered...oh, nevermind, that's coming too.

So Hansa market was a honeytrap.  Dream Market maybe too.  There is a huge multibillion dollar gap which DHL can not, will not fill.  Such a vacuum is truly anhorrent.  It will not stand.  I revise my estimates on XMR to 200 in October, 1000 in March, and 5000 before 2019.

Let me first make clear I am not complaining about the current price of a monero. Especially since Monero just works great paying privately for my VPS, email provider, etc (xmr.to is an awesome service).

That said I just can't understand people trowing mullions at the next ICO with just a flashy website. Bytecoin without any development having a close to Monero market cap, instamined dash with it's centralized nodes that has no real life usage, and I don't know what other crypto of the day. Paying on a DNM (which I luckily don't need with the affordable healthcare in my country) with bitcoin or any crytocurrency that has a transparant blockchain, really?

Relatively Monero is so undervalued it is not even funny. What is so hard to understand about the need for financial privacy Aminorex?

Really? No.

Here’s Why "Don’t Buy Monero" Should Now Be Retired.

It is still reasonable general audience advice. In one interview, I heard fluffypony add something to effect of "If you are an extreme speculator then sure go ahead and speculate". For anyone else, the advice is perfectly okay. This is not a proven asset, it isn't in a proven asset class. There can be bugs that completely destroy the currency.

[...]

If you tell people to not buy Monero, especially with a big fluffy smile, it might have the opposite effect as what Fluffy tries to achieve. It turns into a disclaimer nobody actually reads.

Instead I would suggest to not talk about the Monero price at all (but about the technology and developments in the space instead) and just not give any investment advice at all (to buy or not to buy).
[XMR] Monero Speculation

You are missing my point. I am referring to the 'do not buy Monero' phrase by Ricardo after a presentation or interview about Monero.

[...] FrankenSegwit isn't as great as you think. If it prevents a split on August the 1st, that will definitely be a good sign. However, we will experience the same problems again before their flag day HF.

A well supported hard fork (by hashrate) is preferable over a soft fork. It is just the stigma the terminology got.

If we get a soft fork version of Segwit by the Segwit2x implementation, there will be two megabyte blocks shortly afterwards. The market already priced this in and considers it bullish now that the miners started signalling.

Whenever people start yelling "cheap coinz!" I know that we're squarely in a bear market. Have heard it all before. They'll keep yelling that all the way down.  Roll Eyes

Which in Bitcoin's short history has always proven to be true.
