1841  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin - PoW reward for solar energy | the GREEN KING of Crypto on: June 11, 2014, 03:05:49 AM
Somebody tell me if I am out of my mind or not :-)

I mentioned before about the possibility of getting the big PV companies to donate to the solarcoin initiative, and I fully believe that if we came up with an idea that would create value for solarcoin, that their investment would be given back to them 10 fold.  It would be nothing for the big boys to donate 1 million (plus?) annually…they have revenue in the billions and profits in the hundreds of millions.  It could potentially be an expense on the balance sheet too.

Let's, for the sake of argument, say they (combined) throw $5 million a year towards solarcoin (to start). Now let's say there's approx. 50 million solarcoins in distribution (by end of 2014, or just after?). That would provide $0.10 per solarcoin value to solarcoin holders (if everyone went through the claim process). The challenge then becomes, how do we get that $ back to real investors (solarcoin holders).  Then, I thought of the registry…or whatever the Foundation are calling the repository that exists for solarcoin claims (from solar energy production).

Solarcoin has something that other crypto currencies does not - a registry of Users/producers.  So then I thought, why not take it another level, and offer tracking of solarcoin holders, for the purpose of receiving the $ donated by the big manufacturers?  It's the exact opposite of some of the crazy stuff going on with other crypto coins (that push anonymity), where by some form of claim takes place based on the total solarcoins held by registered owners.  The blockchain can provide proof of ownership, by solarcoin wallet identifier, and $ could be actually delivered on a per coin basis. It might only be a slight expansion of the current claims repository, with a couple more fields,  to include a registration process for those with solarcoin wallets, with real addresses (to send the cheques). The confirmation may be performed in a similar fashion that paypal does when you register a bank account, where they deposit a small amount to confirm the access/identity of the User.  Each solarcoin registrant could be told to send a very small, but specific, amount of solarcoin, to confirm they are who they say they are (who owns the solarcoin wallet).  Again, blockchain could confirm the numbers.

To increase value, an annual per coin amount could be provided, based on how long the current solarcoin holder has held the coin, at the end of the year…like maybe a penny per coin for each month the current wallet owner has held their coins.  This concept would significantly raise the value of solarcoins, as the supply would be so small, with most people holding on to their coins for the annual return, and the demand would drive the price up way beyond the $0.10 annual per coin return.  It could bring on the multi-dollar value very quickly; thus making it a very good incentive for investors to produce solar energy; thus providing a bigger incentive for PV manufacturers and others (service companies, etc.) to donate more $ to the cause.  It could be a huge benefit, for a relatively small investment?

Let me know what you guys think of this idea….or if I am completely nuts!  lol

Bravo!

...

Put it to you this way - I'm far more satisfied with PBmining than I am with BFL or Black Arrow.  Lips sealed

Yes, scam or not at least we are getting something, not to say users reporting ROI every day.

Yes, we are getting something. I made ROI . But many many many others did not , and if they are ponzi they have huge suply of btc to pay every week small parts of ur deposit Smiley . And if they shut down many people will lose huge.

Im not saying they are ponzi , but they can easily be one , and rly perfect setup from them it cant get better than this. Somebody deposit and u pay him every week from his money, for 5-6 months u pay him only with his money while in the mean time so many people deposit/buy more.

I would just like to see some proof like in what pool we are mining, what block we solved, what hardware we use. That is all.

Its very hard to take a picture of a setup i guess.  And i dont care what people say there is no security issues with showing a pic.

How hard would it be for pbmining to mine 1 block with there tons of power just to show us proof. And then go back to there secret ways.

Alot of people bought from them on ebay and had items shipped someone should have a return address.

The minutes from the Board Meeting last week have been posted to the wiki: http://wiki.solarcoin.org/index.php?title=SolarCoin_Foundation_Board_Meeting_Minutes:_June_3,_2014

If solarcoin gets picked up by cryptsy one day then the ask on allcrypt will be gone very fast. probably by cryptsy themself.

I decided to mine some at the Prominer pool using Nicehash.com (so that's me if anyone was curious  Wink). There are only about 20 minutes left to the contract. Total Hash rate of about 800 MHs seems to get 1 minute block completions, or the amount of hash power needed for an 11 difficulty. Interesting I guess. I'll just have to wait and see how many coins I get for my 0.034 bitcoins that I used to purchase the contract.

Well, I got §2300. I should have just bought them...  Roll Eyes Now I have to wait for 120 confirms to get them out. That could take weeks at this rate. Sigh...  Cry

EDIT: Correction... At 10 minutes block times, I should get them in less than 24 hours. My math skills aren't so great today.  Roll Eyes

It is still very cool to have that much hash power.

Difficulty issue needs to be addressed ASAP. We are now stuck at a high difficulty and the main mining pool has gone offline.  We will be stuck at this level for weeks if not resolved.

I agree. But is Cryptopoolmining actually offline? Because when you look through the Blocks on the block explorer, it is showing that blocks are being solved by cryptopoolmining. See here and just step back through some of the blocks, you'll see it on the transaction comment: http://184.73.159.72/b/12ngCJqXrq

Are the payments coming in? Does the pool website need to be refreshed or something?

i haven't gotten a payment from them in over a day. I just did a manual cashout for a few odd coins and it worked. But these where from yesterday.

I bet they are just behind and i will recieve my coins later on

I don't mine there, has anyone tried to contact them about this?

just sent a support ticket.

maybe someone could pass this message on to him. Thanks i really hope his book does good.  Any idea if solarcoin is in it?

Gotta agree, dev working on coin.  Also, fully support all the work being done outside of the coin dev, to support the coin…that's why so manny people have invested in this coin.  There's just a few impatient ones posting here, venting…and under new aliases?!  Diff does needs to be adjusted, and looks like it is happening. I also have a dev background and fully know things need to be done right…not by some guy posting his own deisres/intention/code!  Not that people can't help, just should to be managed by the Foundation core, and with the required amount of DD and testing/management. Disagree that people in this forum have any control as to how it will proceed!

Keep up the great work - everyone who's involved with this coin - it's much appreciated!

Fully believe the coin value can/will come...

Great post!

Looks like all the coins just mined where dumped at the bid on allcrypt just now

No,

They were panic sellers because of hashrate and high estimated next difficulty.

I do not agree. but to each his own

Well mackattack is spot on..i believe a guy named sunuser basically wrote all the code a week ago including pos and posv!!! This justin guy is a joke..the community wants this to succeed more than the devs.  It seems that nick wants to set a twitter record instead of realizing how importnant the beginning of a coin is. They never go on to reasure we are working hard behind the scenes. If you guys think your the smartest people in the room, your wrong on this one...GO POSV NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

i disagree the dev is working hard on this coin.

go off-grid with bitcoin, not that worthless solarcoin

To play devil's advocate, what exactly is the point of Bitcoin, compared to other cryptocurrencies which are more technologically innovative and feature-rich (various competitors already), or which are trying to incentivize a positive activity for the planet (such as SolarCoin)?

Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency, and it achieved great things, but it's already outdated, and it does not monetize any good cause or productive economic activity in the world. SolarCoin is trying to create a new monetary system in which clean, renewable, solar-generated electricity represents the money supply and in which generating such electricity entitles a person or business to receive grants of currency. That is a revolutionary idea and potentially world-changing. Bitcoin changed the world, and soon it will be SolarCoin's turn.

SolarCoin has maintained a relatively stable value at 0.5 to 1 cent over the past few months, and that's with hardly anyone in the cryptocurrency community supporting it yet. There is a constant appetite for SolarCoins that are being mined and dumped on the market -- and most of them are being bought by non-crypto people, i.e. long-term investors who will never sell below $1. These coins are literally being taken off the market. These long-term-minded investors just keep absorbing all the dumping by miners trying to make a quick buck who don't even stop to consider the potential of this currency. "Worthless" it may be, in the same way that Apple stock was worthless a few months after Steve Jobs founded the company.

Yup my mom, dad, father in law, sister etc own them lol and they never heard of bitcoin.

Eric Stetson

Troy, it takes time to do it right. Here's an update on the status: 4 out of 5 Board Members have been chosen, and 5th seat will hopefully be filled soon. Charter is going through final stages of editing before it will be presented to the community for ratification. Bylaws are being worked on by volunteers and looked at by attorney. When all of those things are done, we can incorporate. These things are among the highest items on our priority list.

And this little piggy went hashing!

Customer #:  6496
Entry #49

A young investment banker goes out and buys the car of his dreams - a brand new Ferrari GTO. After paying $500,000, he takes it out for a spin and stops at a red light. While waiting for the light to change, an frail looking old man on a yellow moped pulls up next to him. The old man looks over at the Ferrari and asks, "What kind of car ya' got there, Sonny?"

The young man replies, "A Ferrari GTO. It cost half a million dollars!"
"Wheeewee... that's a lot of money," says the old man as he tucks his thumbs up against his suspenders. "Why does it cost so much?"
"Because this car can do up to 320 miles an hour!" states the banker proudly.

The moped driver asks, "Mind if I take a look inside?"
"No problem," replies the proud new owner. So the old man pokes his head in the window and looks around at all the bells and whistles lining the dashboard. Sitting back on his moped, the old man whistles and says, "That's a pretty nice car, all right... but I'll stick with my moped!"
Just then the light changes, so the banker decides to show the old man just what his car can do. He floors it, and within 30 seconds, the speedometer reads 160 mph! Suddenly, he notices a yellow dot in his rear view mirror. It seems to be getting closer! He slows down to see what it could be, and suddenly... Whoooooosssshhhhh! Something blows by him, going much faster!

"What in the hell could be going faster than my Ferrari?" the young man asks himself. He floors the accelerator and takes the Ferrari up to 250 mph. Then, up ahead of him, he sees that it's the old man on the moped! Amazed that the moped could pass his Ferrari, he gives it more gas and passes the moped at 275 mph. Whoooooosssshhhhh!
He's feeling pretty good until he looks in his mirror and sees the old man gaining on him again! Dumbfounded, the banker floors the gas pedal and takes the Ferrari all the way up to 320 mph. Not ten seconds later, he sees the moped bearing down on him again!

The Ferrari red lines and there's nothing more he can do! Suddenly, the moped plows into the back of his Ferrari, demolishing the rear end. The young man stops and jumps out, and unbelievably, the old man is still alive. He runs up to the mangled old man and says, "Oh my God! Is there anything I can do for you?" The old man whispers with his dying breath... "Unhook... my... suspenders... from... your.... side view mirror."
