141  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help send/recover from Multisig wallet on: February 28, 2016, 05:23:31 PM
in Electrum, create a new file, select 'restore multisig', '2 of 2'
you'll see a dialog with two boxes.
enter your Electrum seed in the first box, your xprv key corresponding to the cosigner xpub in the second box.

it will create a wallet that can spend the coins without cosigner.

Good to hear now after a long time that Electrum is on play store, can we sign bitcoin messages from our phone?

no, the sign/verify message options are not available on the phone

I just tried out the new Kivy version.  I've been looking forward to it for a while.  It's very impressive.
Thanks!

Though I've run into a couple of problems:
1) I can't import a pre-2.0 MPK.  When I paste the key, the next button remains disabled.  It works fine with a post-2.0 MPK.
2) On my Galaxy Note 4, the menu pulldown is a bit flaky.  I have to press the menu item (About, Wallet, Settings) about a dozen times before it will actually register.

I will fix the MPK issue.
However, I do recommend to switch to a BIP32 key (post 2.0), because your wallet will create shorter transactions.
This means less blockchain bloat and smaller transaction fees.

for the menu pulldown, it is probably a Kivy issue.
you can install the Kivy Showcase app from Google Play, and test how it performs on your android device.

Any impacts on the end user with this change? Does it affect altcoin Electrum spinoffs? And out of curiousity, why did you change license?
you can read about this here: https://electrum.org/#relicensing

149  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to Get Trezor Wallet to Work With Electrum 2.5.4 on: December 15, 2015, 08:23:04 AM
Hi Thomas, thanks for the reply. I used a fresh installation of 2.5.4 on Ubuntu, no extra libraries installed and support for Ledger did appear. You really should add some information to your download page letting hardware wallet owners know what libraries will need to be installed for 2.5.4 to work with Trezor on Linux. Getting Electrum to work with Trezor on Linux should not be a chore.

right, I will add that info in the client
150  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to Get Trezor Wallet to Work With Electrum 2.5.4 on: December 14, 2015, 07:55:29 AM
ThomasV, I confirm that when 2.5.4 is installed on Ubuntu 12.0.4 using easy installation instructions on the download page there is no option to use Trezor. When creating a new wallet > hardware wallet is chosen the only option is Ledger. How to fix please? Thanks!

on linux, you need to install the relevant libraries for trezor/ledger/keepkey
you probably already did it for Ledger, that's why it is showing the option
151  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [BUG] Electrum 2.6 | No module named jsonrpc on: December 12, 2015, 12:54:03 PM
2.6 is not released yet.
to use jsonrpc with it, you do not need to issue that command. you just need to start the daemon: "electrum daemon start"
152  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum won“t send my bitcoins to another wallet! on: December 12, 2015, 12:52:39 PM

Hi,

I did read the docs and they are not helpful. There is no step-by-step guide to restoring your wallet. It just a dialog box where you can choose to restore the wallet from seed. How did they get to this dialog box? At the top of the dialog box from "the docs" it says Electrum - install wizard. Does that mean I have to delete Electrum entirely and reinstall it? Is that the only way to restore a wallet? BTW, there is no explanation of any of that in the docs. It just says your coins are not lost because you can restore them from the seed. It does not however, explain how to go about doing that.

Please help rather than referring me to other places. When I go to a forum it is not for something I could find in the FAQ or guides provided by the website of the product or service I am using. Of course I have checked that out already.

well, this is the dialog box you should see after you enter the filename.

please read the docs: http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/2fa.html#restoring-from-seed
154  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum display latest version on: December 11, 2015, 11:25:17 AM
it retrieves it from the website.
this feature has been removed from recent versions, that's why the returned value is not up to date.
155  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Help! Asked for two-factor authentication but never set it up, money stuck! on: December 09, 2015, 07:25:34 PM
I'm using Electrum and have some money stuck in my wallet. Please can someone help and tell me how to get it out?

I'll say this now - I really don't have my head around bitcoins that well. I basically have this wallet because I live near one of the machines where you can buy bitcoins with cash, so I opened a wallet so that I can buy them on the machine on behalf of a friend and transfer them to my friend's wallet. That much I'm ok with doing. So if anyone can help me in really basic, idiot language, I'd appreciate that.

I set up this Electrum wallet about a year ago. Last time I used it was about three months ago and it worked fine - I've used it about ten times overall and it's been really easy so not sure why it's gone wrong now.

I tried to transfer money out of my wallet today and I can't  as it's asking me for two factor authentication which I never set up and have not used on previous transactions. I don't even really know what it's asking me for as I've never used two factor authentication on anything. How can I get past this screen? I can't seem to find anywhere in the wallet settings to turn this option on or off.

EDIT: if I click the little shield in the bottom right corner, it says "this wallet is protected by TrustedCoin's two-factor authentication." - this wasn't there previously so how do I turn it off? The link to the TrustedCoin website doesn't tell me how to turn it off,  it just tells me how to set up a new wallet with this two-factor thingy, but I'm assuming if I set up a new wallet my money will still be stuck in the old one? Help! I've paid £60 of my friend's money into this thing and I need to get it back out!

you are opening a wallet setup with two-factor authentication.
this cannot be the same wallet you setup a year ago, because that kind of wallet did not exist a year ago.

check the filename, and the transaction history in that wallet, to see if it is your wallet.
156  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: "Email" plug-in for Electrum? on: December 01, 2015, 10:19:54 AM
Once you have saved a payment request, this plugin adds a menu "send via e-mail"
it also checks for incoming payment requests in your INBOX.

thanks, I fixed that in git master
158  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [BUG] C`mon guys fix some basic things in electrum! on: November 15, 2015, 12:26:56 PM
How does electrum shield agains viruses that change the sending address in the RAM before signing? There have been some viruses that steal bitcoins by changing the output address.

There are two possible scenarios:
 - (1) A generic virus, that does not target a specific wallet, but all wallets at the same time. For example, it can be a virus that changes bitcoin addresses as they are copy pasted in your clipboard. Such a virus is fairly easy to write, and it can target all wallets all the same time. There are reports that such virus do exist today. Another possibility for a generic virus is to modify bitcoin: URIs that are passed from your browser to your wallet.
 - (2) A virus that targets specifically your wallet software, eg Electrum. Such a virus is much more difficult to write, and targets a smaller amount of users. At this point, there is no evidence that such malware exists, but it is theoretically possible.

To protect yourself against (1) is fairly easy, you just need to double check the address that you paste. Unfortunately, lots of users do not do this.
Signed payment requests, as in BIP70, also protect you from that. Note that I am working on making signed payment requests easier to use, allowing users to sign them with a bitcoin key instead of SSL certificate.

To protect you against (2) is more difficult. If you have a hardware wallet with a screen (eg Trezor), then you can check the bitcoin address on the screen.
Another method is to use two-factor authentication with email (we are working on adding this to Electrum), where you receive a confirmation email with the recipient address, amount, and a link to accept the transaction. The advantage of email is that it can display the recipient full name (using BIP70), something harware wallets cannot do.
159  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can no longer use my wallet and upgraded wallet does not show my addresses on: November 15, 2015, 11:34:22 AM
With a little bit of Googling, you would have seen that the forced upgrade is not imposed by Electrum, but by the Bitoin network.
Early versions of Electrum used to sign transactions with high-S values; such transactions are now rejected by the Bitcoin network.

The ability to set your own fee has not been removed; it is an option in your preferences.
Before whining about that, exploring the menus a little bit would have saved you some time.

160  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: electrum text gui key bindings on: November 15, 2015, 11:20:16 AM
Hi,

The text gui does not have as many features as Qt.
Note that all amounts are in BTC.

To navigate between screens, use the left-right arrows
shortcuts:
Ctrl-S for settings
Ctrl-N for Network
Ctrl-Q or Ctrl-W to quit
