221  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can not send transaction on: August 19, 2015, 04:58:28 PM
another instance has been reported.
in the mean time, do you still have that issue?
222  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Feature Request - Transaction History/Taxes/Gains-Losses on: August 19, 2015, 08:37:55 AM
It could work.
I think it could be added to the existing 'exchange rates' plugin
223  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum for Android on: August 18, 2015, 10:17:53 AM
I'm trying to install version 2.4.2 according to the Electrum homepage

I installed Python using the app.

When I execute e4a.py I get the following error in the terminal:
Code:
Error: No module named dns. Try 'sudo pip install <module-name>

just redownload electrum for android; I fixed that just now.
224  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum 2.4 binaries on: August 17, 2015, 01:34:28 PM
Version 2.4.2 was released today, with OSX and Windows binaries.
See https://electrum.org/#download

However, hardware wallets (trezor, ledger) are not supported in the current Windows binaries.
If you use a hardware wallet, please wait until we have better binaries.
225  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [BUG] C`mon guys fix some basic things in electrum! on: August 17, 2015, 10:21:56 AM
Guys electrum is a 3 year old wallet and devs still cant fix basic shit on it, let me list here my problems with electrum:

Thank you for your feedback. We try to make a wallet that is easy to use for both basic and more advanced users.
For that reason, we do not provide all the functionality in the GUI.

Quote
Cant right click and copy the balance of my address nor the description, only the address itself. It's annoying I always have to write down my balance myself: If i got 1.79268367 bitcoin, it have to fking type all digits myself, its really inconvenient.
This is the kind of thing for which I would use the command line.
I would be willing to such a functionality to the GUI, if it does not overload it.

Quote
When I send bitcoins why isn't there an option of "max", so that it fills out that textbox where I put the amount, with the maximum btc available on that address. Since I cannot copy the balance itself, i have to write every digit there, if i want to transfer all the money from 1 address to another
There is one, but it is not visible: you have to type ! in the amount field.
(For the record, Electrum was the first wallet to provide this option)
Electrum will deduct the transaction fee from the total. (if you set the fee to zero, it will just write your total balance)
You can also combine the ! key with 'send from': select several addresses, click 'send from', and type !

I hope this also answers your first point.

Quote
Why doesn't the fee automatically been set to 0.0001 by default, and then I modify that if I have to. Instead it's blank when I have to send, so I have to type it in.
This sentence lacks grammar. I guess you are referring to a bug in the Windows GUI, that should be fixed soon.
Anyway, next version will have an option to use dynamic fees suggested by the server.

Quote
When I send a transaction, I enter password, It gets signed, Then I hit broadcast,Broadcast window closes ,Transaction is sent ,Then broadcast window will be open again if I hit ALT+TAB, fix this bug fast! I HOPE PRIVATE KEY DOESN'T LEAK INTO THE RAM AND STAYS THERE FOR LONG!!!
I am not a Windows user, so I don't really know what Alt-tab does; I did not know it reopens the broadcast window on windows.
In any case, I fail to understand how you relate the apparition of a popup to your private keys being unencrypted.
You might become victim to all sorts of scams if you believe that the security of your private keys is reflected by the presence/absence of windows in your GUI. That's not how computers work.

Quote
When I export history, it should ask for password, it's just basic logic, if my wallet is somewhat anonymized by new change addresses, and such, then why would you let somebody export all my wallet info without password.
Ex: a burglar breaks into my house and gets all my privacy related info, without a password.
Fix this FAST!
This is done in order to protect users against their own stupidity.
See the FAQ for more details.

Quote
When I add a contact, it should show the amount of btc he has on his address, and also it should be copyable , both key and address and balance, as pointed out in point 1.
these are good points.

Quote
For the record I use Windows 7, but i`m sure these issues are persistent on all OS.
you should not use Windows if you are serious about security.

227  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Restoring from 2fa key? on: August 07, 2015, 01:06:12 PM
Hey everyone,

Recently switched to electrum.  Had to wipe my machine and therein lost my wallet.  Stupid me thought I had recorded the seed properly but whenever I try to restore the wallet with the seed I saved I get nothing on the wallet.  It would seem now that the only thing I have left from that wallet is the 2fa key I setup and a seed from a blank wallet I created? Am I doing something wrong when I try to restore the wallet? Can you restore 2fa wallets? Is  it possible to restore a wallet from a 2fa key? any advice anyone has would be wonderful!  Thanks!!

you can restore a 2fa wallet from its seed.
make sure you properly check "two factor authentication" when restoring, as described here: https://electrum.orain.org/wiki/Two-factor_authentication

229  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Electrum - Lightweight Bitcoin Client on: August 05, 2015, 04:09:49 PM
As for your Electrum install being potentially compromised: The reason that you downloaded 2.3.2 when the site says that the latest release was version 2.4 is because there currently isn't a compiled 2.4 version of Electrum for Windows, or OSX. Only Linux offers an easy install of 2.4. If you want to be extra sure that your Electrum install isn't compromised, then you can verify the checksum of the installer with what ThomasV has signed with his PGP as what the checksum should be. If ThomasV's PGP signed message of the checksum is valid, and the checksum matches that of the file you downloaded, then you can be sure you aren't using a compromised version of Electrum.

Indeed. We are currently experiencing problems with binaries, that's why 2.4 binaries are not available yet.
230  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to accept Bitcoin on a website using Electrum on: August 03, 2015, 09:03:39 AM
The Wordpress plugin was not created by me, but I guess they could use this new tool.
231  Bitcoin / Electrum / How to accept Bitcoin on a website using Electrum on: August 01, 2015, 05:32:50 AM
Electrum 2.4 can be used in to accept Bitcoin on a webserver, with signed payment requests.

I recently added this page to the documentation:
http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/merchant.html

enjoy!
232  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: HELP!!! BTC LOST after transfer from Electrum on: July 22, 2015, 10:46:40 AM
@OP, I would like to know what happened.

was it a change address?
if yes, why did you think that your wallet was empty?

if it's a change address, it is included in the balance shown by Electrum.

maybe you had the feeling that your wallet was empty, because of what was displayed in the 'addresses' tab?
if that's the case, it is something we definitely need to improve.
233  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My electrum wallet contains over 17000 addresses (& growing) - am I in trouble? on: July 21, 2015, 12:00:39 PM
are most of your addresses used and empty?
I think an option to not subscribe to used addresses would make sense.
234  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Electrum - Lightweight Bitcoin Client on: July 21, 2015, 11:53:32 AM
Ok, thats something important to know. So when the service dies, but you still have your brainwallet, you will be able to recover your funds? I mean without the service could you create the multisig addresses again at all? I would not know what to do just in the case.

Again: YES. How many times will I need to repeat that?
Yes, you can recover your wallet from its seed, at any time, even if the service dies. It is fully deterministic.

Competing services may not have that feature, but Electrum does have it.
I would certainly not propose that service in Electrum if it was not the case.

Quote
Is it your service?
The service is operated by TrustedCoin.
The fees paid by users are shared between Electrum Technologies and TrustedCoin.
The service was developed by both companies.

Quote
If not, why didnt you implement 2FA normally? Not being able to log into the account or send transactions without 2FA should have been sufficient i guess. Why not going that route? The service costs money for each transaction on top. Because of that i doubt many will use it.
what the F*** do you mean by 'normally'? If you mean 'without a remote server', then you can create a multisig wallet with Electrum, and sign transactions with two devices; it will not cost you anything. It even works with android.

OTOH, if you want the convenience of someone else hosting and securing a cosigning key for you, then someone has to pay for the server operation, and for the people developing the service. I do not want to run that kind of service on VC money (like BitGo does), because I want Electrum to remain independent, and because it does not work in the long run (what do you do once you run out of VC money?)

235  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Electrum - Lightweight Bitcoin Client on: July 17, 2015, 02:50:14 PM
Secure... but unspendable. Or how should one access coins on a multisignature address when one party cant give their key for releasing them? What is secure with that? Its like losing your wallet password and brainwallet too.

Please stop spreading FUD! Bitcoins stored in a 2FA wallet can be fully recovered from the seed, and spent.

How do we achieve this?
Here is the trick: The public key of the cosigner service is not needed, because it is derived deterministically from the seed.

You can test it by yourself, it works.
236  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: My electrum wallet contains over 17000 addresses (& growing) - am I in trouble? on: July 13, 2015, 01:47:17 PM
many Electrum servers have a DoS-protection limit of 10000 addresses.

I suggest you archive your wallet, and create a new one.

If you cannot find any server and have issues sending your funds to the new wallet, you may import only the funded addresses in a temporary wallet.

Here is how you can see the list of funded addresses, in version 2.3:
Code:
./electrum listaddresses --funded

same list with balance:
Code:
./electrum listaddresses --funded --balance

then get the private keys with that command:
Code:
./electrum getprivatekeys <address>
237  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Electrum - Lightweight Bitcoin Client on: July 13, 2015, 01:36:40 PM
What can i do when i sent a transaction on the 11th and only added the minimum fee? I did not know that these ... persons are spamming the blockchain again, so i didnt care about adding a higher fee. Now the transaction does not get confirmed.

In electrum the transaction vanished, so i tried sending again with a higher fee. Problem is, that transaction shows up in electrum but not in block explorers. So i guess it does not get propagated.

How to solve?

Thanks!

switch to a different server.
I recently reboted bitcoind on ecdsa.net, in order to flush its memory pool.

239  Bitcoin / Electrum / Security warning: OpenAlias plugin vunerability on: July 09, 2015, 08:04:30 AM
We recently discovered that the OpenAlias plugin, shipped in Electrum 2.0 to 2.3, does not correctly validate DNSSEC records.

A fixed version is in the works, and will be shipped in version 2.4. (ETA: a week)
In the meantime, please do not trust aliases verified by that plugin.

See the release notes for more details: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/RELEASE-NOTES

Hi!

Unfortunately my server couldn't get past the reorg; seems like it can't revert. bitcoind running fine, updated to the latest version, regenerated/imported blockchain_headers to no avail. Any ideas?

...

This traceback means that your database was corrupted.
There is a robot, 'electra', that detects servers with a corrupted DB, and kicks them from the irc channel.
Unfortunately this robot is temporarily broken (I will try to fix it this week), and it seems that a few servers have been running with db corruption without noticing it.
This reorg made the job that electra usually does Smiley
