The question one should ask is if this is done, although it's a suggestion from you, will it stop the somewhat wasteful spread of merits there?.

no

[one trade]  This is more likely my style but an acquaintance showed me the record of a sale of a small amount of bitcoin from an exchange and even though he sold much less than one bitcoin in what he thought would be one transaction,  there were many, many small transactions as buyers nibbled away at it.  I would think if it was all at the same time and for the same price, there would be no need to break it down like that though. Thanks OgNasty.

same here, one sell or buy can result in dozens of separate trades on exchange. and yup, a pain in the ass.

i pay quartely estimated taxes on my own and then i just give everything to my accountant at the end of the year.

What tools do you guys use for figuring out your tax obligations?

edit: for your bitcoin transactions I mean

i use bitcoin.tax website, basically because i used it early on and never bothered to explore anything else. prints out paper form 8949 (short and long term capital gains) and exports a 8949 spreadsheet in .CVS for you. this is for usa.

basically you import all trades at all exchanges via API or .CSV it does the rest.

cost depends on trade volume. under 20 trades is free.

obviously theres no privacy but this is the usa, we have no privacy anyway so..

edit not affiliated in any way.

From old friends who ignored me,
Asking how it's done.

"Google what?" I hear some cry...

46  Other / Meta / Re: Should Merit-Sources send merit based on their feelings or quality of the post? on: March 14, 2024, 05:30:51 PM
i am rethinking that now cuz i dont want people to post just to get a merit. and many peeps do now. its why we cant have nice things.
There are quite a few merit farmers around that will notice anyone doing something like you did in your threads and will try to exploit it as much as possible but in the end its up to you not to award merit to those who are obviously merit fishing and those are not that hard to notice.

youre not wrong but you may not realize just how lazy i am.

i would rather accidentally merit someone who doesnt deserve it than withhold a merit from some who does deserve one.
47  Other / Meta / Re: Should Merit-Sources send merit based on their feelings or quality of the post? on: March 14, 2024, 03:53:17 PM
One thing I am concerned about is awarding merits in threads I have started. For obvious reasons, I tend to read those more than other threads, so I am exposed to more replies, and I tend to give merit to posts that I feel contribute to the topic of the forum. I am aware that this can create an unfair bias, but I do get rather a lot of merits to award, and I don't seem to have time to read most of the threads here.

What do you guys think? Is it unfair to award merits in threads I have started?

i havent started many topisc but when i did i found i tended to merit replies in my thread in a much different manner than someone elses thread. basically any reply in a thread of mine that wantst blatantly obvious spam would generally get a merit.

i am rethinking that now cuz i dont want people to post just to get a merit. and many peeps do now. its why we cant have nice things.

With Bitcoin the only true losers are those who given in to fear and sell below the price they bought it at due to FOMO and FUD.

to be fair the current strategy of someone who acquired coin at sub $1000 usd will be somewhat different in someone who entered at $60k.

but the main part.. the hodl part.. thats the important part.
49  Other / Meta / Re: Should Merit-Sources send merit based on their feelings or quality of the post? on: March 11, 2024, 11:31:56 PM
It's especially hard to send some people merits when you've ignored them.  As a merit source, I try to give merit to those who deserve it and not just those who cycle it back and forth.  However, I have ignored quite a few people on these boards for various reasons.  Those people who have been ignored will never get a merit from me, not just because I don't like them, but because I literally can't even read their posts.  I guess there's a lesson in there somewhere...  Don't be a total dick or spread lies about people if you want them to read what you have to say.

i merit people on ignore. because you do see their quoted text in other posts. so on occasion i will see an ignored persons quoted post thats decent, go to the original post and unhide it and merit it.

people go on ignore for a variety of reasons and even assholes make the occasional good post.

Are y'all going for a quadruple top or something? The collapse on the other side of this is going to be really bad.

we are pretty tough, we can take it

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to yuck your yum, but selling BTC does not seem to be a mode to accumulate more BTC... #justsaying

I wish I was accumulating Bitcoin for last four years then I would be in much better position. Still I am happy with whatever I have. I do agree that selling at this time is not a good option because one might miss bigger piece of cake coming in next few months.
I told you my situation for which I did that and I am happy that BTC has benefitted me and my family in big way.
This help from BTC has taught me a lesson to keep investing in BTC to improve standard of living.

a bit after the 2017 ath (21k) when btc price had fallen to like 13k usd or so i sold of a good chunk of my stack to augment my retirement plans to the point where i retired years ahead of even my most optimistic estimates.

best decision ever. wife and i are having a blast and no clocks or worries.

only you decide what is best for you and yours.

54  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: March 07, 2024, 03:16:02 PM
I started using it recently, for other forums
You should not use Talkimg service for posting images on other forums, or they could be removed and deleted, this was stated by joker_josue.
Talkimag should be used only for uploading images on bitcointalk forum.

Well, I'm not going to delete/removed these images that are uploaded.
The issue is that the server is configured to only accept traffic coming from Bitcointalk. That doesn't mean it doesn't work on other forums. I just can't guarantee that they always work.

But, I ask, do you think this "restriction" should be lifted?

i would be cautious about unlimited access for other sites as seems it would be easier to abuse and that could cause bct image issues.

maybe some officially whitelisted sites with full privileges with others on a "maybe, maybe not" status with some sort of throttling.

Some monster over clipped his wings, and so he can't fly. Cry   We adopted him as a rescue bird.   He does have full run of the house though, no cages for this guy.  Smiley Well we do have one, but the door is always open, and he has a little nest on top that he usually hangs out in.

nice. glad he has a good home.

when i 1st glanced at your avatar i wondered what that was in your hand, but ive learned not to examine some pictures to closely in this thread, after all i only have one set of eyeballs.

Which, if I've done my math right, means next week will be the fifth anniversary. Prepare for celebratory shenanigans.
How can we possibly prepare for that? Cheesy Lots of sleep? Or the opposite? Training? Alcohol?

Ok, that's enough of that nonsense. No more pasting of the already infamous post. My fingers are bleeding all over my trackpad.

At least you can get some speed behind swipes on (most) devices, try a desktop with a trackwheel (scroll wheel?.. whatever it is called). it's like this, but faster and louder.Cheesy

one of my mice has a switch to put the wheel in "flywheel" mode, you can really get it cranking with it.

Make a 1000 point bullet list of why you should in invest into Bitcoin, positive reasons only.

And this is the piece of shit answer

you can run local copies of various LLMs, it allows a lot of tweaking of parameters to kinda guide its responses and guardrails. stuff you cant do in the public models.

im likely to try it at some point. needs some beef to run it, looks like more toys will be arriving to get some more grunt in my rig.
59  Economy / Speculation / PSA coinbase on: March 06, 2024, 02:21:50 PM
PSA about coinbase

the other day during a rip i did a fiat withdraw to my bank and coinbase errored out. tried a couple more times and i would not initiate the transfer.

the next day i redid the withdrawal and it went through.

obligatory not yer keys etc. i do keep an amount on exchanges but its an amount im more or less ok with losing. it sure would be annoying though.

What the fucking Oppenheimer JayJuanHeimer!

I think this is the first time I merit a post that I wasn't able to FULLY read.

i have literally worn the rubber coating of the scroll wheel on a mouse off from this thread, i think i uploaded a picture of it a while back.
