this is interesting

https://www.coindesk.com/bitmain-bitcoin-mining-china-sales-mining-machines

it may mean dropping diff will continue.

much like the 1930's with farmers burning crops to raise prices.

so they arent selling new BTC asics but still are still selling altcoin mining gear.

bitmains apparently still making new sha256 gear though. just says not selling.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-06-23/world-s-top-bitcoin-mining-rig-maker-halts-sales-as-clients-flee

ergo, new gear is being set aside for the big 51% attack.

/s*

*well hopefully

phil must be on break or something

have to sleep

oh i though you had some program/bot that monitors chartbuddy and pings your phone everytime it posts here.

i feel scared now that i know we dont have 24/7 coverage of the forum apocalypse or something if chartbuddy gets a 3 bagger.

Yes, good point, the "51% of hashrate attack" is a serious threat. The core idea of mining incentive is greed, assuming it's more profitable to support than abuse something profitable, but if a state gains control and it turns political, that could be a nightmare. What I don't get is why China would be kicking out the miners out then? If the plan was to gain control I mean.

well they could just take over bitmain and force them to crank new miners out exclusively for gov use, leave it offline until they are assured of >51% then attack bitcoin simply to try and destroy it (ie no direct financial advantage they just want it gone so it doesnt compete with there own digital centralized stuff).

it would take stockpiling all new bitmain stuff, leaving it all offline (secret) wait till assured >51% and then unleash it all at once. pretty tall order but maybe possible?

That "dude" also claims in his signature that “bitcoin price cannot be sustained above $ 10k” which is pure nonsense and empirically confirmed as incorrect.

In 10 years you won't be able to deny how correct that sig is.

a full 10 years? wow when did you turn so optimistic?

Good point. 1 year.

thank you. i feel much better now.

Sold nothing but I logged into Kraken & thought about it  Grin

Just hope it stops soon man.

For sure... it is going to stop, soon.tm

i think of it as a gravity sling type of thing.  the deeper into the gravity well you go, the higher the speed you can have on the way out. although bigger craters are another outcome.

One thing is certain, I will not die from boredom anytime soon, roller coaster to hell.

hey "number only go up" is cool and all but the real thrill is the terrifying drops. i mean thats half the fun right there. enjoy it.

1050  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Real total supply on: June 20, 2021, 07:26:31 PM
Although, I had also read that around 3 million BTC, excluding Satoshi's, have left the circulation. Make your own research and your own assumptions.

yup defining lost coins can be pretty hazy.

i estimate ive lost 10-15% of my coins, mostly early stuff i mined from around 2011-2013 and just playing around with them with various wallets etc. these are lost as in the wallet files/private keys are actually gone/destroyed.

so i tend to use my own examples of stupidity as an example. assume im twice as stupid as the average bitcoiner so i say 5-8% of coins, mainly from early days are toast as it was experimental and fun to play around testing things back then.

hows that for SOMA heh
1051  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 20, 2021, 06:41:33 PM

well to be fair he has another 24 hours or so for btc to drop from ~35k to ~1k as that post was on 21 june. thats if im reading that post right..

and in that case he would lose the dudes game though, so theres that.

1052  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will not be able to stay above $35k for 10 consecutive days ever again on: June 20, 2021, 05:39:16 PM
Probably should prepare my "will not be able to stay above $30k..." thread by the looks of it.

if you do please link to it here so i wont miss it.
1053  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 20, 2021, 04:50:09 PM
So basically for mining a btc I get true cost close to 15-18k .

I mentioned earlier that this is different than 2018 here is why.

2017 12/31 diff = 2.60th
2018 01/31 diff = 3.01th
2018 02/28 diff = 3.46th
2018 03/31 diff = 4.02th
2018 04/30 diff = 4.31th
2018 05/31 diff = 5.08th
2018 06/30 diff = 5.95th
2018 07/31 diff = 6.73th
2018 08/31 diff = 7.15th
2018 09/30 diff = 7.45th.

2018 10/30 diff = 7.18th

so with faltering prices the diff rose 9 months in a row

that is not true right now.

and this means it is different this time

"fact not conjecture"

Just not sure what will happen. Due to this fundamental difference in mining profit.

the 2017 runup was pretty crazy, easily the craziest time ive seen in it as far as price only go up mode FOMO. perhaps miners ran more on momentum and hopium and tolerated losing profit or even mining at a slight loss for a time in hopes of it bouncing back fairly quickly. i mean how long can you hold out running on fumes i guess (i have done that and its occasionally paid off extremely well long term).

also was there any new gears shipping in that 2018 timeline? wondering if its harder to shut down a shiny new expensive asic than an older one even if they both lose money lol. but man i would hate to completely turn off some expensive latest model gears. but logically you should just shut down, sunk cost be damned i suppose.

The Dogecar has crashed during the race... Cheesy

https://twitter.com/NASCARonNBC/status/1406349369276735489

the skid marks kinda look like an infinity sign sideways. so doge has a loooooon crash still to go.

winners at the end of a race have the option to do some burnouts plus get out and climb the fence to wave at the crowd at the finish line

e.g. that is not the skid marks from the shiba crash

makes sense as i couldnt really figure it out. i was wondering if he just lit them up to try and spin it around to get back in the race. cuz thats what i would do even with a wrecked front end lol

gonna have to watch the video.

Cheesy Grin

The amd 6700 is meh but the 6800 is pretty good.

got the 6700XT at 46 mhs @ 113 watts on win10 and phoenix just by undervolting it and playing with clocks via the built in AMD tool, whatever its called. not gonna mess with any bios stuff ive had enough of that with my RX470s

got the 6700XT in the shuffle, its the only thing ive won in it so far.

really want a 3080 or 3080ti. for actual gaming if you can believe it heh. but they would sure would pull mining duty when not gaming.
