61  Economy / Service Discussion / Erik Vorhees announces coincap.io on: September 27, 2018, 02:46:10 PM
https://coincap.io

what do we reckon to this? will it put coinmarketcap in its place?

it looks cleaner and has live price updates which is always a cool feature. i don't know if their listing and detail policy will be better than CMC but i hope so.
62  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will BTT ever transition to a new more powerful and visually impressive forum. on: September 27, 2018, 12:03:54 PM
i would be kinda sad if the forum had a flashy redesign. i really don't care how it looks. all i want is for it to impart information in an efficient and clean manner. the form it's in now does a great job of that.
63  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-09-26] U.S. Judge Sides With CFTC on Virtual Currency Oversight on: September 26, 2018, 11:40:18 PM
https://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2018/09/26/business/26reuters-usa-cftc-bitcoin.html

I think the main thing to take away from this is that the legal business is still pretty clueless about how to classify crypto. the judge is saying because this piece of crap in the case has some similarities to bitcoin all of them are commodities so the CTFC has jurisdiction over everything.

it doesn't make a bunch of sense to me.
64  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-11] IMF warns marshall islands over crypto experiment on: September 14, 2018, 01:34:24 PM
Don't get why none of these countries just opt fot Bitcoin instead. Tap into an existing network that's already immune to any interference from these financial cartels. Maybe a Bitcoin state convert isn't too far away...

that's one leap too far for any nation state. for many the attraction is an increase in control. taking up bitcoin would be the exact opposite of what they want to achieve.
65  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-11] IMF warns marshall islands over crypto experiment on: September 13, 2018, 08:48:10 PM
On the other hand, using ETH's ERC20 tokens is a mistake

https://twitter.com/prestonjbyrne/status/1040058994889576449

this sounds like a bit of a skeevy project overall. some ICO assholes are taking half of the money raised, not that I've ever understood why any national currency ever needed one anyway.

once again the original principles of crypto are railroaded by greedy scum.
66  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: September 13, 2018, 08:10:20 PM
Someone else made the offer to donate. He didn't solicit it.

That's the trick.

If someone with that rank still falls for the sick kid stuff then they will clearly continue doing so. Everyone else has seen it a thousand times here before.

I hope the donator feels warm and fuzzy and the receiver enjoys his little gain. No one else was harmed.
67  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: September 13, 2018, 05:41:07 PM
Someone else made the offer to donate. He didn't solicit it.

I would not expect anyone else to bail out my screw ups but we're all special in our own way.
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is crypto bubble bursting finally? on: September 11, 2018, 07:46:13 PM
I think between now and the early part of next year is when we see the ass fall out of this thing properly. so far it's been a prelude. 30c XRP makes no more sense to me than $3 XRP.

ETH is the reference for all of this. if that continues on down, and it looks like it has no intention of stopping, everything else follows it. unless there's a winter rally we're going to see some official pain.
69  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-09-11] IMF warns marshall islands over crypto experiment on: September 11, 2018, 07:27:55 PM
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-45485685

'IMF directors said the potential benefits of the move were much smaller than the potential costs of "economic, reputational and governance risks".'

i can't say i'm too surprised at this move. it's one thing if somewhere relatively substantial tries it, it's a whole other thing if somewhere tiny and easily cowed tries this move. the IMF, or rather the banks behind them, is basically threatening them by reminding them of their dependence on foreign intervention when things go wrong.

will they plow on?

70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Major Korean Insurer to Offer Crypto Exchanges Insurance for Hacking Damages on: September 11, 2018, 02:47:22 PM
it is totally clear that these exchanges are incompetent. why would any insurer touch them with a ten foot pole? if they're insured they'll probably become even more reckless.

i guess they'll have to satisfy alot of conditions to obtain insurance like this. i also guess they won't bother sticking to them and get raped doubly, once because of the hack and second when the insurer laughs in their face when they want their laziness and idiocy bailed out.
71  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Centralized exchange Bithumb allegedly has $250m in fake daily trading volume... on: September 11, 2018, 02:35:40 PM
I would like to know the proportion of people on exchanges looking to trade versus actually exchanging coins and leaving, the latter is probably gonna be a much smaller number.

because of that I don't see how decentralized exchanges will take over the world. traders want order books and instant executions and so far only centralization can deliver that.

no one should be surprised at anything exchanges get up to. they're an almost infinite source of questionable behavior and in many places no one knows or cares enough about them to stop it.
72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the most interesting crypto-related projects in your opinion? on: September 11, 2018, 02:03:45 PM
The lightning network have a better concept and a promising future but their project is still on a beta testing stages for a longtime which I think they ought to have finished by now.

uh, yeah. that's why it's the most promising area to work and develop in. it still needs to be refined and the potential has been barely tapped. we don't know where it could end up but it could be world changing.

if i had the ability that's where i'd be working.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Main] Bitcore- BTX - Are you ready for the future? on: September 11, 2018, 03:25:32 AM
I think we have to aim for the magic 99% fall so that's a cosy 38/39 cents.

Maybe it'll decide to go one better and head for 99.9%
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: what qualities does a coin need to survive this bear? on: September 10, 2018, 01:45:58 PM
I do not see a project who standing strong in this bear market. If we look at all projects in average then we see that Bitcoin is the strongest, if we compare it with the ATH of the coins.

i'm not talking about doing well, nothing's doing well, it's more about coming out relatively unscathed to be a contender another day compared to the stuff that'll fade away completely.

supply could be another factor. mined stuff in general has better distribution and more incentive to keep going.
75  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-10] SEC Suspends Trading in Bitcoin and Ethereum Investment Products on: September 10, 2018, 01:05:12 PM
the article doesn't say much about what's expected of the provider in the ten day suspension period. it seems to be largely about misleading marketing. can anyone who was marketed to by this tell us what was off about it?
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Main] Bitcore- BTX - Are you ready for the future? on: September 10, 2018, 12:52:43 PM
This was all inevitable and comparing previous bubbles in crypto to this one is silly. This one impact millions upon millions of people and it left a bad taste in people's mouth. These people will never come back and even worse they will tell other people crypto is a scam.

nah. as soon as things turn around again, and they will eventually, all will be forgiven, all will be forgotten and no one will care about the people who threw money at junk that is clearly worthless.

all bubbles are the same. the only thing that changes are the prices and the numbers of people involved. bubbles start once the pain of the previous pop is a distant enough memory.

77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the most interesting crypto-related projects in your opinion? on: September 10, 2018, 12:30:01 PM
lightning networks?

that's got to offer the most numerous and interesting possibilities that weren't available before. it also is one of those things that's going to require a lot of development before people realise the potential it harbors.

if I had the skills that's where i'd be directing my efforts.
78  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / what qualities does a coin need to survive this bear? on: September 10, 2018, 03:28:55 AM
does it need any? will there be a unifying characteristic that leaves certain coins standing where others have fallen?

i'm going to say that the less centralization there is, the greater the chance a coin has of living to fight another day.

a prime example of this is doge. it's been around for what feels like forever. no one's really in control of it. it wasn't created for the specific reason of lining the pockets of a small bunch of assholes. it's just overtaken zcash, the coin put together a bunch of geniuses, on coinmarketcap.

similarly unless it gets its act together litecoin will come out of it alot stronger than BCH for very similar reasons.

is there anything to that theory? is there anything else that you've noticed?

79  Economy / Economics / Re: The Cryptocurrency Job Market Is Exploding (Infographic) on: September 10, 2018, 03:02:12 AM
we'll know when crypto has truly arrived when the idea of advertising for a blockchain specialist is as weird as recruiting an email specialist.

going on the caliber of most people out there I would not trust them to program my coffee machine let alone my company's smart contract. and when the tools available are as complicated and potentially dangerous as ETH I wouldn't bother getting started in the first place.

we need something the average five year old can program in a totally bulletproof manner.
80  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you reccomend family and friends to join the market when it's crashing? on: September 09, 2018, 07:44:40 PM
I would never recommend anything to anyone, but if someone had told me they were thinking of it and demanded an answer from me I would tell them to only do it when they were convinced it was a suicidal idea.

I know perfectly well they'd ignore me and only buy at the absolute peak which is why I refuse to get involved.
