741  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin on: August 17, 2011, 05:24:04 AM
you assume this is like ixcoin which was a get btc quick scheme, with some 400+ ghash mining on I0guild i think people haven't even begun trading yet

Indeed, many people are keeping an eye on I0coin because it has some features over BTC that make it interesting to mine and monitor the network. So from that perspective it's always going to have a base level of mining in it, unlike Ixcoins which was 100% aimed at profit.
742  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin on: August 17, 2011, 05:18:14 AM
Trading is already done here.  IXC traded between 0 and 0.01, so people already have in their minds that I0C has a value that straddles 0.005.  It will continue trading in a tight range around 0.005 until buyers get bored and it falls back to something really tiny.   Thanks for the 18 BTC, that was all I could squeeze out of this one.

Considering i0coins have 3 times the volume of Ixcoins at similar points in time and I0coins actually have some useful features over BTC, I think you're being a bit generous with straddling 0.005.

0.02 will likely be hit. But thanks anyhow for selling low. Smiley

Are we looking at the same exchange?

I'm talking about the exchange here : https://i0exchange.bitparking.com/main

The owner is in IRC and told everyone what the deposited BTC and I0 was.
744  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin on: August 17, 2011, 03:31:35 AM
There's 1500BTC on the main I0coin exchange according to the owner and 250,000 I0coins, a BTC share of 0.006 per I0coin, quite amazing for such an early time in it's life.
745  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin (or IBcoin) on: August 15, 2011, 11:00:56 AM
Like 48 coins per block (instead of 96), but one block each 5 min (instead of 10)? Sounds nice.

Yes exactly. 5 minute blocks will make a great difference to transaction speed and give I0coins a technical boost over the Bitcoin network, something it needs if it wants to gain traction. Keep up the good work.
746  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin (or IBcoin) on: August 15, 2011, 09:30:47 AM
Could I0coin also change the frequency of block generation? If blocks are generated every 5 minutes instead of 10 transactions can be completed sooner and the network will appear to move faster. If as we've seen a 10 minute turn into a 30 minute block or even a 60minute block, the network slows to a crawl and it's nearly impossible to trade on it (look at name coins and it's current 1 hour block generation). 5 minute blocks in these cases can't blow out quite as much and it will ensure a smoother network at a little cost to throughput.

Oddly enough, bottle caps. Ever since playing Fallout 3....
748  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ixcoin - a new Bitcoin fork on: August 12, 2011, 06:12:29 AM
Again, fundamentals.  What niche does Ixcoin fill?  What can you do with it that you can't already do with Bitcoin?  Why should merchants bother to accept it instead of (or in addition to) Bitcoin?

In other words, why would this ever take off?

In my opinion it won't. You're right that it does nothing better than Bitcoin, but people have and will make money on IXCoin. That is why it will exist, until the bottom drops out of it and some people lose money.

We need to see some real improvements upon Bitcoin before we will have a real challenger. And even then, Bitcoin itself could just improve itself (less than 10 minute blocks, daily retargets, etc).
749  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Dual 6990 setup without needing monitor or dummy plug question on: August 12, 2011, 06:08:20 AM
interesting, apparently ccc didnt realize 11.7 existed. dling and isntalling now.

Update:  unplugging both plugs results in no cards being detected by guiminer.  Correct you are about not needing a dummy plug for the second card tho. Can i dummy plug the main display without risking breakage? (im paranoid)

Provided the dummy plug is a nicely made one, I'm not sure why you couldn't trust it per se. Linux is really where you need to be if you want to be completely headless (no monitors).

Would be nice if there was an easier way to get BTC than wiring banks, especially when the banks are "Suspend happy".
751  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best pooled minning? on: August 12, 2011, 05:54:34 AM
I found BTCGuild to give the most, and I've used all the major ones for a few days. Can't go wrong with 0% fee and pretty high block finds.

With ATI 11.7 I didn't need dummy plugs on Windows 7.
753  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 5850 strange noise when underclock memory on: August 12, 2011, 05:18:06 AM
It's definitely a capacitor! As to why it happens, it depends which capacitor it is. A lot of cheaper video cards have weak capacitors in the display circuit, so if there is too much "White" on the screen they make an audible noise. Scrolling can also be for a similar reason, more GPU power is required when updating the display. I had a "loud" capacitor in a Nvidia 9600GT, and that was 4 years ago and it's still working fine. It stopped making the whine noise, which is what can also happen over time.

If different memory speeds are controlling the pitch it could be a power related capacitor, you could play around with the memory speed until you find a sweet spot, kinda like tuning a guitar.

Alright, well, I just tossed some coin at this

http://bitcoinduit.com/game/viewRound.php?id=Insomnia

come on aboard then : ))

Hey, that one's mine!  Cheesy

I like the pyramids better than random number generators since there is some skill involved in guessing how people will behave. Human nature being as unpredictable as it is, however...

Nice little site there. Do you have any other works?
755  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Google going Bitcoin? on: August 12, 2011, 05:05:52 AM
As a general rule, financial systems should always store values in decimal format and not in floating point.

isn't 'decimal format' just a fancy name for 'string with a dot in it'?

seems that way in mysql anyway.

Pretty much. The only true way to store financial numbers on computers is with integers. Everything else is rather subjective.
756  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: What name would you give to the smallest unit of bitcoin (0.00000001)? on: July 20, 2011, 06:27:15 AM
0.1 BTC = 1 dBTC = 1 decibitcoin
0.01 BTC = 1 cBTC = 1 centibitcoin
0.001 BTC = 1 mBTC = 1 millibitcoin
0.0001 BTC = 100 μBTC = 100 microbitcoins
0.00001 BTC = 10 μBTC = 10 microbitcoins
0.000001 BTC = 1 μBTC = 1 microbitcoin
0.0000001 BTC = 100 nBTC = 100 nanobitcoins
0.00000001 BTC = 10 nBTC = 10 nanobitcoins

^  this is what I was about to say, glad I read every post

Agree with this too.

Hi, I'm an extremely intelligent computer programmer who is interested in bitcoins for various reasons.

1) They have the potential to make me money through speculation
2) I can use it to allow people to buy products quite easily
3) I think the concept of bitcoins, how they are like cash, is the way all transactions should be. To avoid people knowing what people are doing.
