Is this coin dead, or what's the status?
Yes it's dead.

Can Vertcoin be mined whit a normal scrypt asic?

Er.. no. Its a Lyra2RE algo now. Not scrypt.
So Algorithm: Scrypt-N can not be mined whiit a scrypt asic ?

Vertcoin is not Scrypt-N any longer. It forked to Lyra2RE at block 208,301

Excellent jobs and my VTC still the same.  I will add 100x holdings as the rate is dropping from $5 to $0.05 each VTC
Seems a bit criminal to change the algorithm whiteout everyones agreement. So a hand hull of people just change it...  Not really the decentralization dream right?
This is even big as monetary system stopped using gold as backing.

No your comparison is wrong because people bought into this coin with the understanding that the developers would be taking necessary steps to thwart ASICS. This change does not in anyway go against the mission statement.
And ... The price crashes to new lows after the change. No surprise to me. Glad I dumped all my coins when the change was announced.

I sold about 40% of my holdings for BTC in the past week.
We need some traction for VTC!
Bullshit, sounds more like your getting out of Vert before the new algo in anticipation of a price crash. Very wise move, Vert is a miners coin, no demand side for it outside this handful of followers.  Algo change is the final nail in the coffin.

Vertcoin market cap at $480k is so low it's comparable with joke coins like Karmacoin, and dropping like a rock while Litecoin has remained stable for 3 months. No one cares about ASIC resistance, try explaining that to the man on the street and see what reaction you get. Perversely you may see some renewed interest in the coin and a value boost from the Titan owners when Scrypt-N capability is added to the firmware.

Supposedly scrypt-n asics shipping next week?

https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-106

knc titan can do scrypt-n apparently:

The Titan was designed for several variants of the scrypt algorithm, including Scrypt-N. Titan's firmware is in continuous development and we'll update this space with new versions enabling new features as they become available.
I wouldn't worry about the Titan, Vertcoin has been in free fall for so long that it isn't worth mining anymore. Take a look at how the price has compared to litecoin over the last 3 months.  Vert is only worthy of a pump and dump. No point holding a coin in collapse. Lyra will just hasten the exit because it has no support other than in this thread

Says the newbie with 5 posts, all negatively talking about vert. Thanks for warning us all of our impending demise Tongue
It's the newbies that aren't snow blind. Cool

I always buy 100 coins per day.

g0re79: Please go home if you are not interested to buy now. Always complaining but not buying yourself when price is good Grin.
Price is far from "good". It's very low and dropping at an ever increasing rate compared to say LTC. I agree that Vert is now all but dead. Nice concept to be ASIC resistant, but the market has moved on, X11 is the new wonder ALT and no one cares about ASIC resistance anymore except the die-hard believers on this thread.  Be friendly to Multipools, they won't go away and learn from history that if you try to buck the market you will lose big time.

just small question
Did I missed today or last day any disaster?? Undecided 0.o ??

Just checked vtc price last hours trades ... and ... ... yeah ... and ...

so was any disaster or just like that ? Smiley
I still hold pretty much vtc (in these days price pretty little -.-) but stopped watching or caring much as anyway for me its like lost all (no way I ever sell it for current or lower price) of it or somehow earn later ... If it hits 1 satoshi then I will see what will be after years with this ... :/

well still sad  to see days like this...

P.S.
did you all noticed that vtc sinked lowst within last 30 days then most of the coins? It looks like from loads of shit coins vtc became more shitty ... while I see it as best ... Somehow looking at this I feel like idiot :/
Yes, it does look like the market reaction to the announcement of a possible algorithm change. Just as I thought would happen, a massive no vote from the market. Devs please take note.

for people like me that are not reddit fanboys....

NEWS:

https://vertcoin.org/pow-algorithm-upgrade-lyra2/
I couldn't disagree more with moving to a new algorithm.  Vertcoin is already ASIC resistant; devs have got spooked into this announcement without evidence that ASIC miners will even be tempted to mine Vertcoin. Memory hardness is a real deterrent, it will always be more profitable for the ASIC miners to point to plain Scrypt coins.   Plus the N factor change will do the job of keeping the proportion of ASIC miners low over time meaning the pressure to change will just not be there.

The real danger is that Vertcoin becomes marginalised and loses even more value as a result of being the only one based on Lyra2.  Why would any other coin adopt it?  The only coin that has ASIC resistance in its mandate is this one.  Changing algo is not something to be taken lightly, it indicates weakness not strength, instability not innovation.

Maybe we could pay a "bribe" to btc-e to add vertcoin to their market ? I dont understand why people belive in magic x11/x13/x15 colder and energy saver algo. It's just modified Intensity and lower hashrate thats all. You can lower your intensity with the same effect. They washed our brains Smiley It works only becouse lower memory consumption and the hashrate is bigger than normaln scrypt and scrypt-n.
You're wrong, man. And I explain to you why.
I have 8Mh on vert and calculator shows 55 vtc/day with current difficulty 143.43204979. Also power consumption of this 8 Mh is around 4.5 kW.
And using rigs on x11-13 I have near 85 Mh on x11 and near 65 Mh on x13. This algos give me 0.025-0.035 btc/day and this is equal of 65-90 vtc/day (I use current price on mintpal).
Total power consumption on x-algos is around 2.7 kW.
And what we have:
scrypt-n: more power consumption, hot cards (70-80C) , lower profit
x: less power consumption, lower temps (50-60C), better profit

That's why many miners don't want back to mine vertcoin directly. Right now Scrypt-n is very expensive for us.

And now you can again talk about "I dont understand why people belive in magic x11/x13/x15 colder and energy saver algo. It's just modified Intensity and lower hashrate thats all. You can lower your intensity with the same effect. They washed our brains" Wink

All cards is 7970, not nvidia, and they are in downclock.

If my thoughts are wrong, guys, correct me, please.

Ironically the only way to mine Vertcoin directly and profitably now is with a Scrypt-N ASIC.  One supplier is quoting 2.5MH/s for 18W (yes W not kW).  This wouldn't be the first time doggedly sticking to ideology was the instrument of downfall.  The coin needs more fundamental rethought than the devs are prepared to offer.
