Out of interest, did you get a replacement unit through RMA? Thinkng I could just sell the new unit if they replace the old one... And buy something a bit sturdier for when the next PSU gives up...

Yup, learned the first time I dived into GPU mining bitcoin. A Xion 1300W didn't last more than 3 months. I now run my 8x 580 on 2x EVGA T2 750W.

I have 8 RX 580s, 6 of them ASUS RX 580 8GB and 2 of them XFX GTS Black Core Edition RX 580 8GB.
In GPU-Z, my ASUS cards' ASIC quality ranges from 69 - 76%, while both my XFX are >76%. My two lowest ASIC quality ASUS cards, 69% and 70.2%, require 25 more mV more at 1100 core clock while mining (825 mV). All the other cards are stable at 800 mV, including XFX cards which are clocked higher at 1175 core. There seems to be some correlation between ASIC quality and undervolting voltage, but at the moment, with such a small sample size, it is just anecdotal evidence.

I also got 8x RX 580s working on the Asus Z270-A board. Using a Celeron G3900.

Correct. My 750w G2 are setup similar to your PSU2 above, CPU to 2x 6pin splitter and using 1 molex string per riser.
(I had spare EVGA G2 molex cables, and on the PSU side PERIF/SATA sockets are wired the same)
So I can use the Perif - Molex cable in the SATA plugs on the PSU as well? EVGA G2? Yep, the sockets are the same other than labels. Seems to be common for EVGA PSUs, I've noticed it with G1, G2, GS and PS series. (all of which conveniently use the same modular molex cable pinout) Same with T2 series. Running 2x EVGA 750W T2s. |
