41  Other / Meta / Re: Where to post asking if anyone is interested in starting a "project" together? on: August 10, 2020, 05:18:22 PM

I noticed that there is a thread about projects started by legendary members?

How would you feel about that; if 1 or more legendary members were behind a project; would that get your attention ?
42  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you fear the president of your country, one day, making Crypto illegal ? on: August 10, 2020, 05:13:05 PM
Cryptocurrency is decentralized, so the government will never be able to discourage its development. Many countries have banned crypto but the people there still use it every day and make profit from it

That's true, there is always a workaround, I would think that a government would probably start by running PSA (public service announcement) type of campaign to scare people into not using crypto.

Has anything like this happened in any countries?  I know some people ("business leaders") in America have cautioned against investing in crypto; saying the same old things (not based on anything, blah, blah)...I'm glad no one is listening.
43  Economy / Economics / Re: Second Stimulus check - What are you going to do with it? on: August 10, 2020, 05:07:30 PM

What GPUs would you buy with $1200 USD ?
44  Economy / Economics / Anyone here Studying Econ ? on: August 10, 2020, 05:05:03 PM

If the teacher called on you to make a Crypto presentation to the class, would you do it?

Or have you even done a crypto based school project or paper?
45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will You Trust a Project Announce BY A Legendary Member on: August 10, 2020, 05:02:34 PM
There is an advantage if a project handled by a high ranked in the forum which gives more assurance to spectators that it will be worth it to read. It's still best to investigate first about the project because the legitimacy of the project doesn't based on the rank  who announced it but its the project itself including the team,  roadmap and the actual adoption in the real world.  As always, doing reasearch will always be the best way to spot a good project or not.

Has there been a project in which several high ranked users have been involved? I mean like 9-10 legendary members - now that would be interesting and that is something that would make a lot of noise and attract a lot of attention.

If it's happening right now, please let me know
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you fear the president of your country, one day, making Crypto illegal ? on: August 09, 2020, 06:44:22 PM
I fear sweeping change - what if there is a drastic shift in government, new senators and congressmen - and they see "public" decentralized crypto as a threat; because the bank lobbyists paid them off and they now want to promote their own big corp version...

We know it has happened in some countries, but is your country safe?

47  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More and more moved Bitcoins from "Bitfinex Hack 2016" to unknown wallet-adress on: August 08, 2020, 04:42:15 PM
It seems to me that you pay too much attention to this. Why do you need to know who they are sending these funds to?

Found the hacker. You cheeky fellow.

It's interesting because it's one of the most famous hacks of all time and by following the coins we may find out their eventual fate as well. Along the way we may learn how on it law enforcement and exchanges are about this type of thing.

LOL

48  Other / Off-topic / Re: Chinese products are junk on: August 08, 2020, 03:54:53 PM
It's like 50/50 chance what you buy is decent or junk.

Amazon isn't helping much, as re-sellers will sell you anything and there are a ton of fake reviews. It's a crap shoot.
49  Economy / Economics / Re: US economy suffers worst decline as GDP contracts by 32.9% in the second quarter on: August 08, 2020, 03:51:10 PM

It's coming back, some sectors are bouncing back, some will take more time. Some industries are hit hard; like Bars, Nightclubs, Movie theaters, etc...they can not make up the lost revenue.

Look at the markets, tech is booming.

Will we pay for all the money printing down the road...some economist say YES, other say NO; so who knows...
50  Economy / Economics / Re: Stock market, bubbles, US economy, distribution of wealth...Americans=no savings on: August 07, 2020, 08:49:38 PM

Do you think things are looking better? Stimulus cash went into the stock market and people paid off credit card debt...small positives things happening for some people.
51  Other / Off-topic / Okay who is stocking up on Toilet Paper going into Fall/Winter? on: August 06, 2020, 12:11:15 AM

Who is stocking up on Toilet Paper and other things going into Fall/Winter?

Do you think it's necessary to keep a 30 or 60 day (or more) supply of goods (Food/TP/ETC)

Preppers don't be shy...
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: August 06, 2020, 12:07:32 AM
A few weeks ago, I have started to revive and dusted off my old GPUs from the storeroom.... 13 x 1080tis, 6 x 1070ti and a few dozen 480s,470s and 1060/P106-100 .....   put them all to work under SMOS and Phoenixminer.

USB Linux SMOS for fast deployment under 1 dashboard.

Phoenixminer for ETH mining with lowest dev fee (compared to Claymore).

Highest density using K35 motherboards with 8 x PCI slots and Delta 2400w PSUs.

Since, everyone will be furiously mining ETH till POS.... I decided to do otherwise and point every ounce of hash and sell it to Nicehash, in exchange for BTC instead. I expect "crazy pricing" at Nicehash soon since they are crazies out there that would pay crazy rental prices at NH and MRR, especially for last few months of ETH POW.

All my GPU gear are ex 2016 and paid for several folds, so I guess this revival project will be the last hurray for these GPUs.

As for offsite hosting... I had to shutdown my 1ph SHA256 farm (33 x 30THs ASICs) but retained DCR and FPGA hosted mining to save on power bills. If BTC 20k.... even the 30Ths ASICs will make money and can be revived.

Good luck to us all!

thanks for the tips on getting my 4GB rigs up and running again, i really appreciate them!

.
<snipped>
.
So, based on these results I will likely move all for AMD rigs over to Phoenix miner.  I do like the look of the SMOS Phil mentioned, but if this method works on my other 3 rigs, I will likely stay with it to avoid the extra cost and time.  If I was starting from scratch though that definitely looks like a cool way to manage rigs!

I think the 1080ti is worth more now !
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: August 06, 2020, 12:04:10 AM
I think it depends on what you pay for electricity and if you have already made money (and/or have the hardware) to re-invest.

ETH is on a tear...I think someone calculated that at current prices (if you have to buy new GPUs) you can recoup your money in 300 days...so if you already have the GPUs skip to step 4 and "profit" !

Many posters have cheap or "free" electricity.

What's your situation ?
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will You Trust a Project Announce BY A Legendary Member on: August 05, 2020, 11:57:20 PM

How much do you have to "invest"?

Generally it's time...they aren't asking you for large sums of money, right?
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will You Trust a Project Announce BY A Legendary Member on: August 03, 2020, 11:46:46 PM

So many factors guys, I think you covered most of them. Do you think "luck" is a factor also - or "timing" or even the "name" of a project?
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: August 03, 2020, 07:09:44 PM

Opinion:

5600 xt vs 5700 xt

I know we are dealing with: availability / price / power consumption / units per machine (space) / what else ?
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you fear the president of your country, one day, making Crypto illegal ? on: August 03, 2020, 07:05:17 PM
It is possible for a president to be bad like what you have described because it's his/her account that has been hack. But it just can't be passed quickly out of his words. There's a process even if it's an executive order.

But if that happens in my country, I don't even think that it's going to happen. As it's a new technology and most are new to it, they should go after the scams and not cryptocurrencies.

Good thing that America's current president is not a big fan of the banks (as he probably believes that have treated him "unfairly" thoughtout the years), but he is a big fan of using Executive Orders...

On a side note:

Looks like Tik Tok just got 45 more days...
58  Economy / Economics / Re: Second Stimulus check - What are you going to do with it? on: August 03, 2020, 06:14:44 PM
The stimulus check is supposed to be an aid for the lower/middle class that got financial difficulties. By logic it should be used to buy food, pay the bills, the rent, etc. I don't consider it normal if people use it to pay for holidays or something mentioned in OP like video cards, cryptos,...

In this case, it means they don't really need help finally.

It's like if you give $10 to a homeless begging in the street and instead to buy food you see him buying the latest iPhone (ok iPhone doesn't cost 10 bucks but you get the point).

It should be mandatory that it should only be used in certain places, such as supermarkets.
The same people who complain because they don't have enough money, living paycheck to paycheck, but when they get free money, see what they do with it...

Then they will also complain because the country's deficit increased. Free money that will be paid by paying higher taxes...from people who weren't eligible to the stimulus by the way.

Along those lines...

There was/is talk of a $4000 vacation "credit" that could be used (spent) over the next 3 years - the only stipulation is that you had to vacation in the United States.

So for example; you go to Disney land next year, you spend $5000; you can get a Tax Credit of $4000 (not a tax deduction).

Strange stimulus I guess, but all things considered; I would be booking my trip to Disney !
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining PrOn - did you ever build a mining rig for beauty / aesthetics on: August 03, 2020, 02:54:29 PM

You know what I'm talking about - sure you can just lay the components on a wood table/frame - fans at top speed - cranking out "hash"

OR

did you try and make it look good - same color components, same glowing fans, neat cable routing, equally spaced on racks (or in the same cases).

Tell me about your current or past mining rig setup or post some pics. Maybe it's just me, but I love looking at neat/organized mining setups.

60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: August 03, 2020, 02:36:39 PM
Nice

Yes it was microcenter, I grabbed a 2060 super for $369, soon after they all disappeared ...might pick up a few 5700 soon. I need to learn how to get and use stackable coupons at best buy !

Also, there used to be rebates for everything $20 mail in rebate, etc - those are all gone (at least at microcenter).
