For those collecting these pieces of history, do you also have the plastic cases?

I am totally new in this forum. I am a gamer and I do not have time to play games on pc. I have read , browse the web and find that GPU mining is some how profitable. I want to give this a try. I have a gtx 970 and AMD 7950 GPU. What Coin I should Mine with these ?

And what is the best GPU for mining ETH and ZEC ? I do not actually think about electric bill. Please guide me

Is your question about adding more cards? Or which of your cards is best for what...

If you want to add more cards...AMD cards are hard to find and expensive...you will have to go Nvidia
344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Possibly a good cheap Mining Case Idea - Frankenstein Case on: July 04, 2017, 11:27:20 PM
The one I like is about $180 plus tax and shipping, ouch.
345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: July 04, 2017, 10:27:06 PM

ZEC? I was able to do 790 but that was really pushing my FE card. If I overvolted I could easily push 2100MHz+.

Keep in mind this is under water though.

I was watching my new Aorus run 2050Mhz consistantly earlier today, on air and with only a +150 core overclock in Afterburner - I'm pretty sure I could push it a good bit harder as it was only running 69-70C in an 80F ambient at 79-80% fan but I've not had time to play with it much yet.

Dang thing is a 3 slot card though (forget those sites claiming 2.5 slots, they're WRONG) - good thing I was planning on that rig to be a 2-card rig (I got one of the Gigabyte 3-fan Windforce models to go with it, but 20/20 hindsight I probably should have gotten a second Aorus).

News about the P106-100 is kinda old, and the June 23 date appears to be wrong (they've STILL not been seen in the wild in quantity, except perhaps as bulk-buys by large farms).
RX 470 mining-specific cards are kinda up in the air, Newegg has had them listed for a week and some now but I've not seen anyone state they've actually RECEIVED one that they ordered yet - and the initial $250-$270 price doesn't look like it's going to actually happen as the only one they have listed as "in stock" right now is through a 3'd party seller at well over $500.

On the plus side, GTX 1070 availability seems to be easing some, and a FEW cards are now available in the under-$500 range as of 10 minutes or so ago.

How much were the 1070's 6 months ago?
346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: HELP! new to mining. Motherboard mystery on: July 04, 2017, 10:19:46 PM
@chancoin why am I getting power to it then? The power button pins are even raising and lowering voltage as if to indicate a blinking LED.  I would expect nothing to work.  I've got it on the padding it shipped with and that's on a plastic bin.  I also have hardwood in my apartment.  Admittedly, I don't have an anti-static strap though.

@k98s I've never built a miner before so I picked equipment that seemed to be a community standard in case I ran into any issues, so I could get help (like right now).  I will look into it for future mining rigs though.

I just checked w/ ebay and I have until August to do the return.  So I think I'll try the 6th gen CPU first, then do the return if it still isn't working.  But I think @chancoin might be right about the fried board.

Try the 6th gen cpu and see what happens...it is possible you got a bad board, it does happen from time to time.
347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Video card prices before the "surge" on: July 04, 2017, 10:11:53 PM
Do you think the "mining only" cards that are being released will help bring the GPU prices back to normal?
348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best option for cheap Commercial Warehouse Internet? on: July 04, 2017, 10:10:54 PM
If it has landlines you may be able to get cheap DSL.

Thanks...'ll look into DSL and also the LTE aircard option.
349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Do you have a fire suppression system ? on: July 04, 2017, 10:08:40 PM
Even though we all worry. Its actually VERY RARE for a massive fire to start.

With so many people mining right now around the world, very rarely you hear of someone burning down a house.

Usually a riser can melt and it crashes the GPU which crashes the rig. Or a GPU vrm melts and shorts out the PSU and it turns off.

I think the Bitmain Antminer's were more fire prone or the KNC Neptunes with melting PCIe connectors.

Seems like if you just keep your miners away from anything flammable (curtains, clothes, etc) you should be okay, but I like some of the suggestions in this thread, esp. the fireballs
350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do Altcoins really have a future? on: July 04, 2017, 10:01:53 PM
I believe Bitcoin has a future in long term. It proved itself in the past years and it is getting widely popular. It just has a transaction fee problem atm.

What about the altcoins? Who does use them for real? Will people use them in the future for real purpose?

I only have a hope for ethereum and litecoin, but not for the rest. I am not even sure for eth and ltc.

If bitcoin solves the reansaction fee and time problem, I doubt eth and ltc even have a future.

This is becoming an interesting thread...Yes, altcoins have a future, a very bright future. It's a big world and the need for cryptocurrencies will only grow. Bitcoin will always be on top (or near the top), but in a diverse world you can expect there to be diverse demand for different cryptocurrencies (even if they are similar).

Competition is always good and consumers having a choice is good as well.

Hardly anyone believed in Bitcoin when it was introduced, many people called it a scam...people called Litecoin a copycat scam and attacked the creator...and look what they are now...and EVERYONE is jumping on the blockchain bandwagon.

Just thinking about how bitcoin has changed the world...I want to buy Satoshi Nakamoto a beer, make that a few beers!

351  Other / Off-topic / Re: Happy 4th of July! on: July 04, 2017, 09:23:33 PM

Happy 4th of July to everyone in the United States!

Fun facts:

80% of people attend a barbeque, picnic, or cookout
150,000,000 hot dogs are consumed on July 4th each year (gag)
700 million pounds of chicken are consumed on this day
$5 million worth of U.S. flags are imported from China each year
Almost $700 million is spent on fireworks
Americans spend $1 billion on beer every July 4th!

Have a great day!  Smiley

Cue the music...."I'm proud to be an American..."

1 billion on beer, WHAT ?

I went to a frat party, they killed 70 kegs in 2 hours...

352  Other / Politics & Society / Re: When did the 4th of July become so commercialized ? on: July 04, 2017, 09:05:42 PM
Yes it's a celebration, we have to consume stuff like beer and hotdogs; and watch fireworks.

BUT

I was in Home Depot and the employees were covering prices for a Fourth of July sale, like it's black Friday or something...when did this happen?

I guess in America it's a slow crawl to commercialization of everything holy or revered.

In America, we have a "go out and spend" events/holiday almost every month

Please add to:

Jan - New Years Day
Feb - Valentines Day, President's Day (was G Washington's B-day)
March - University Spring Break, [got to be something else...please add]
April - Elementary and High School Spring Break, Secretaries Day (YES...Secretaries Day) - also Jefferson's birthday (old)
May - Memorial Day Sales / Mother's Day
June - Father's Day
July - 4th of July
Aug- Vacations and Back to school
Sept - Labor Day Sales
Oct - Columbus Day sales
Nov - Thanksgiving Day (Black Friday - big one)
Dec - X-mas (big big big)

For non-Americans is it similar in your country ?
Not at all, but isn't it what American culture is all about, they spend and spend heavily on these holidays and that's what keep their economy going, they brainwash people into buying more and more things thay they don't even need.

It has been said that the USA's economy (spending and debt) powers the world economy...China is up there now as well.

A friend told me The Expanse is like Firefly (and very good)...I haven't check it out yet.

355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Governments Shutdown the Internet? on: July 04, 2017, 05:32:36 AM
I honestly think Bitcoin isn't decentralized enough considering that government still controls the Internet and can easily censor or shut them down (is this even possible?) anytime.
The move by government to make us go cashless by gradually phasing out cash is even more worrisome, could make them have absolute control over us.
We need some sort of decentralized "physical Bitcoin" that doesn't depend on the Internet and can be exchanged for online Bitcoin.  It is too risky not to have offline alternatives to Bitcoin to act as backup plan for online Bitcoin in case something big goes wrong.

Pls I need to know something,  Is it possible to exchange Bitcoin with other people without being connected to the Internet?
Let say the government bans the Internet and you have your Bitcoin offline(in cold storage right?), can you exchange the Bitcoin to the next person by simply transferring some Bitcoin from cold storage to his/her computer, phone or even data storage devices(like SD Card, USB, Hard drive etc)?
If this is possible then no need for the "Physical Bitcoin"

In America, if the Internet was shut down indefinitely, there would be a global economic meltdown...and slow recovery. The biggest companies in the world are tech, so this will never happen...

Now a meteor or solar flare causing a major disruption...that's possible. I suppose the evolution of internet/networking/PDAs/Phones could move bitcoin (or something else) from what we call "the internet" today to some other future network.
356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: HELP! new to mining. Motherboard mystery on: July 04, 2017, 05:18:29 AM
I failed to mention.  The motherboard isn't posting (I hear no beep).  I took a volt meter the the power button pins though, and I am getting voltage across them.  Does this info help diagnose the problem in any way?

Is the CPU power hooked up?

Once I ended up with a bad motherboard from a computer show...wasted 1 day on it...was pissed, had to find the guy at next show and get a new one.

What is your favorite Science Fiction television/cable show?

I will list a few of mine: Blake 7, Farescape. Firefly

Kind of the same theme throughout the 3 shows...

In fact, I think Farescape is a modern copy of Blake 7...and Firefly should have had a longer run.

List yours:

No love for Science Fiction...I don't believe it...post post post

Are you expecting anything decent for sale on Amazon Prime Day? Looks like all hype.
359  Economy / Collectibles / Re: WTS: 6 Vintage USB Block Eruptors on: July 04, 2017, 01:21:14 AM
50$ + shipping for all 6.

Are people still mining with these? I think I have a bunch in a draw somewhere...you must have very low electricity costs, but more power to you!
It's more for the collectible aspect (or crazy person hoping to have the most extreme luck ever).
I still have a ton of antminers and block eruptors. It's almost the first real bitcoin hardware, excluding FPGA boards. And also is small and you can keep on your desk.

What about those people with "free" or cheap electricity...do you think they are still running them in a pool?
