421  Other / Off-topic / New ASIC miner that is going to blow this thing wide open on: July 12, 2013, 06:33:16 PM
This is ASIC mining machine ORAC, I believe this will blow the mining game wide open. You want to control 51%, Orac will do it for you.

As you can see it has all the bells and whistles of many of the other phantom ASICs.

Order today and as a bonus, my friends Avon and crew will even come to your house and install it in your wood paneled basement

Of course this is a joke, some of the ASIC scam photos couldn't help remind me of Blake's 7s Orac, lol.

422  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Building a final mining/gaming system - what's the best MB, etc on: July 12, 2013, 05:32:15 PM
I've got a 7990 mining away on a old MB (yes I know GPU mining is almost done, but I may switch to litecoin...)

I want to build a new super system that will mine for a few months then switch to playing BF4.

I would like to have at least 3 pcie slots (I've got a few 6870s in another machine), so I would be giving GPU mining one last blast from one machine.

How many cores do I need to run 3 video cards, plus a few asic erupters?

So what I need to know is what Motherboard/CPU combo do you recommend (this would be a bang for the buck system), power supply, even case...and having a ton of usb slots would be cool for those asics.

I've been told go with Intel only and I will probably buy from newegg, unless you recommend otherwise.

Thanks
423  Bitcoin / Mining / Guiminer and radeon 6870 goes from 300mhash to 300khash after 5 mins on: April 24, 2013, 09:19:42 PM
Guiminer and radeon 6870 goes from 300mhash to 300khash after 5 mins. I have tried the latest ATI drivers...I'm running windows XP, and Guiminer. It does say non-stratum at the beginning and the video card is not hot. I've looked for a sleep setting, etc and found nothing.

Let me know if you need more info (I'm working on this problem right now). I've searched and searched, others have had this problem, but I could not find a clear fix.

Thanks
424  Bitcoin / Mining / Still possible to mine on a windows 2000 machine? on: April 24, 2013, 09:14:51 PM
Is it still possible to mine on a windows 2000 machine?

Thanks

427  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 100% CPU question about power consumption and cpu affinity on: September 15, 2011, 02:07:11 AM
doubt its CPU. I run a 5830 on a P4 prescott 2.8 @ 10% CPU usage. XP SP3, SDK 2.1, 11.2 driver (note: you dont want this combo of driver/sdk, its just an example of what usage I get with an anemic CPU).

what miner and settings? driver and sdk version? OS?

any other software on the rig?

task manager (if win based) shows it the miner @ 100%, and nothing else using CPU?

Sapphire 6870

Drivers 6.14.10.7206 (or 8.872.0.0)
Sdk 2.1
Catalyst 11.7
GUIminer 2011.0701

-v -w128 f15 (now), still 100% cpu usage.

My processor is the slowest sempron made.
428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What about a Bitcoin only "EBAY" ? on: September 07, 2011, 06:25:46 AM

Thanks for the reply, not much there yet, bidbitcoins looks promising. Bitcoin supporters should be actively using and/or developing [a massive] auction site, I know I'm going to start buying things with bitcoins to do my part.

The downside might be we will lose the "anonymous" aspect if we start shipping things to one another, but with general goods (typical ebay stuff) shouldn't be a big issue.
429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What about a Bitcoin only "EBAY" ? on: September 07, 2011, 05:40:34 AM
Talk about a great business to start, I wish I had the capital and the skills to do it, but a Bitcoin auction site would be wonderful. It would help on so many levels, including helping to stabilize the value of a bitcoin. Is anything like this in the works?

What do you think about bitcoin as a barter currency (of course not limited to only that)?
430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Looking for a Bit-job on: September 04, 2011, 06:27:50 PM
With the terrible state of global economies and the lack of "new"jobs, I'm wondering if bitcoin is creating any jobs? Is anyone making their living off bitcoin or bitcoin related activities?

I would love to have a Bit-Job, do you see Bitcoin creating jobs in the future?
431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Alternative coin question on: August 31, 2011, 01:56:25 PM
I'm new to bitcoin and I like everything about it, except for the fact that I wasn't mining coins 1 year ago, which leads to my question; Should I be mining any of the alternative coins?

I do not want to undermine bitcoin, but I do want to "hedge my bet" so to speak, so I am wondering which other coin system should I have alongside bitcoin?

guiminer, poclbm -v -w256 -f1 (could it be the -f1?)

Task manager shows poclbm at 98% and other software at 2% (firefox)

I'll check the driver and sdk and report back.
433  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 100% CPU question about power consumption and cpu affinity on: August 21, 2011, 05:56:18 PM
My mining machine has an AMD Sempron LE-1250 with 1GB of main memory, my GPU is a single 6870. My cpu is always at 100% usage, my questions are:

Is that normal (I read about the software bug)?

By today's standards, my CPU is also underpowered, could that factor into the 100% usage?

If I can't fix it and I'm using 100%, should I click on CPU Affinity? I would think IF I'm using extra electricity anyway, I might as well get an extra 4 mhash out of my setup, right?

434  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: portable mining rig to take to work on: August 20, 2011, 04:53:32 AM
Heres a nice portable computer!

Or you could just go out and get a gaming laptop! Cheesy

I'm glad most of figured out this post was meant to be "tongue in cheek", thanks for playing along.

435  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: portable mining rig to take to work on: August 20, 2011, 04:48:00 AM
Buy an Alienware M17X revision 1 or 2 (not 3) and run two 6990m.  You should see around 450mh/s and possibly more depending how they overclock (I only have experience with 6970m)

Only 450mh from 2 6990s? Do laptop really burn out quicker, even if you take external steps keep it cool?
436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have a 20 BTC Bitcoin private key here... on: August 20, 2011, 04:44:34 AM
Is that kind of feature ever going to be in the mainstream software?
One of the devs has this feature in his fork for several months now, so I don't think so
Maybe they think that importing private keys should not be accessible to average users (which is quite understandable)

Thanks for the quick reply, it takes me 2 days to mine .25BTC, how hard can it be to import the bitcoins? (yes I am also searching the website and google). I built my first linux box in YEARS because of bitcoin, bitcoin is a great motivator for small IT projects.
What do you want to do? Import the bitcoins you mined in your wallet?

No, sry I was rambling, I just trying to learn all I can about bitcoin and get back in IT/Linux. I like what I've read about Bitbill, and there was also an intriguing thread about prepaid cards, which would probably need its BTC imported as well.
437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have a 20 BTC Bitcoin private key here... on: August 20, 2011, 02:52:14 AM
Could someone explain the point of this? Pardon me I'm relatively new to bitcoin. I did read some of the bitbill thread, but I don't understand why the OP needed assistance.

Thanks
When you buy a bitbill, you actually buy an address containing 20BTC and its private key (needed to use the money)
But in order to use the private key (thus the money) you have to import it in your wallet, which needs either a python script or a bitcoin fork

438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How can you make money (bitcoins) from the transaction fees? on: August 20, 2011, 02:39:37 AM
How do you collect the fee? I know the fees are extremely tiny right now, but what is going to make the fees increase as to were they can make an impact? How does the common bitcoin miner/user benefit from the fees?
