thanks for the advice on the thermal paste, I guess it can't hurt to try it your way. I've redone almost every card I own's thermal paste with artic silver so highly doubt that's the problem but will try anyways, as it had the same problem before i messed with it as well.
In case I still don't any luck.... anyone have a 5770 in a dedicated miner, that can give me some settings/software versions I can try copying and hopefully get it working

I'm using afterburner to monitor temps. Both went to 90 degrees within seconds of turning them on for the first time and yes I have extra fan's even but what could cause this?

windows 7, even on stock speeds, caseless, I'm so confused I just ran one of them 36hrs straight without a problem overclocked to 1000mhz now I restart and I can't even run it stock. the only thing I can think of is it somehow being overvolted by some bug... cards are doing the same thing on both my systems driver it looks like is 11.8

I bought two 5770's a sapphire and a powercolor. Both of them almost immediately overheat (less than a minute) when I start mining. I've redone thermal paste. fans at 90%... The first time I redid the paste on the one it was in the mid 70's until I reboot than back to 90 within a minute

hmm i assume everything's linux based?
No, I use cloned setups of Windows 7 preconfigurd. runs higher scores than any linux build. I would say this is only possible if you cannot overvolt the cards in linux, therefore cannot overclock as high. II have two cards like that, but it wasn't worth the extra cost for multiple windows copies to clock those two a little higher. nope. i have made over 40 rigs. two common 5830 miscoceptions. No overvolt is EVER needed to reach peak, and windows wipes the floor with linux with mining. Almost willing to bet it will beat it work on all cards. 341mhs @ 1030/300 stock volts W7 build. Also, i have over 100 oem home premium liscenses. 341 with only 1030 clock? I've gotten 341 but only when at 1045, mind sharing driver versions, kernel and what miner you are using with us?

Its hard to say.... I have on this system a 5850 and 5570. Using latest guiminer and this setting "-k phatk2 VECTORS BFI_INT FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=12 WORKSIZE=256" guiminer shows 499-507 mhash total. Using cgminer it shows 499-501 mhash. Its so close honestly it could just be a margin of error <1%. Honestly I would use cgminer if I had all the same cards in the system as it can setup overclocks, fan speed etc. Its very difficult to setup with several different model cards so I still use sapphire for overclocks, afterburner for temps, and guiminer for mining
edit: cgminer also seems to use less resources, have 100% cpu use on both, but still somehow is less laggy also uses less ram

I run mine at 1040/350 (338 mhash)... ran them at 1045 for a while but they would usually crash after about a day or two. But then again I always make sure they have sufficient cooling.

I just wanted to let you know your not the only person who has this problem. I've seen it happen on mine and my friend's system. So its definitely not a logmein issue as it happens on the regular remote desktop client as well. What I have done though I admit its not much of a solution, is I'm using a radeon 5570 as the main card now (running at aggression 4 its smooth as silk and 100mh when afk) and haven't had any problems. If I find anything else will let you know

I believe the 70-100w is the amount of heat a person produces doing nothing. Not how much work they can do. A professional cyclist can produce almost 2000w/hr. I would like to think I can make at least a quarter of that, lol
Just for math an average man can produce 70-100W, but the idea of the gym is fun
Being somewhat of a newbie myself, I've been mining a little over a month. I would suggest not getting the sempron 140 that everyone recommends. Is it enough processor for the job, sure. But if you are just getting started with a dedicated rig, and planning on using windows I would recommend against it. If your ATI driver crashes, sometimes it puts your system in high load and locks up your system, making it impossible to save what your settings are to get it right next time. So I would spend the extra 20 or 30 dollars on the cheapest dual core myself. But MSI motherboards are highly recommended! Its all I have used for years now
edit: just seen that you were going to run linux so this may not apply

Well its not a power supply issue. The only way I know of that it won't do this is to run at totally stock speeds. So maybe I will just have to live with it. Seems that is maybe an issue with power saving mode.

I always just type %appdata% in a windows explorer address bar then click on the bitcoin directory. Maybe you went to the wrong user directory?

Hey this is Kyle. I just started mining about a month ago. Bought a 5830 to start and now have two. I'm going to make a dedicated machine here shortly.
PS I love solidcoins too, this must be how it felt in the early days of bitcoin. Too bad I ignored everything I heard about bitcoins months before

hmmm.... strange thing is it happens on my friends computer as well with his 5830. Last time it did blue screen though when I hooked the tv back up, if that helps any. I'm thinking I'm just going to have to make a dedicated rig and go back to my old card that didn't do this but if you guys have any ideas please help thanks

I have been using a hdtv as a monitor for several years now, the only problem is since I've started mining and bought a sapphire 5830 and 5570, I can no longer switch my tv to another source and then back without locking up my computer. Has anyone seen this before? My google searches have been fruitless. I don't have to have the miner running for it to lock up. Same thing happens if I remote desktop! I assume its an hdcp issue of some sort but have no idea how to resolve it? Any ideas
