121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin as a secure channel for regular payments. on: October 24, 2015, 01:09:56 PM
Security will always be first concern in this age of virtual currencies. I really don't think its possible to find unhackable system. Just need to choose best option. So you should give less info about yourself around.
Hacks can occur if the server is not secure enough and SE can expose the server to the attacker. Bitcoin is irreversible and is also anonymous at the same time. It would be easier to steal than trackable fiats.
122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN IS BETTER THAN WESTERN UNION ? on: October 24, 2015, 12:09:00 PM
Bitcoin is more readily available and costs less than using Western Union. However, not everyone uses Bitcoin and not everyone would think that it is a trustable method. There is alot of methods and fees involved when converting Bitcoin to cash.
Isn't the problem the amount of bitcoins there will be around?
Based on this, the limit is relatively low and there is quite a huge supply of Bitcoin currently.
123  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can I invest? on: October 24, 2015, 12:05:07 PM
Hi guys! Grin
I saved some money in the last year, now I'm looking for some opportunity in this kind of market to invest my money. Is it better buy altcoins or bitcoin? maybe mining? I'm just a bit confused, but determinate!
Avoid trying services that guarantee huge profits as they are most likely a ponzi that would collapse. Mining is impossible for home user and cloudmining is either a ponzi or would have huge risk of not getting ROI. Altcoins are very volatile and can make user lose their money and isn't a good currency in general to invest in.
124  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Network mining on: October 24, 2015, 12:02:08 PM
I just posted this in the main bitcoin forum. I have no interest in the other alt currencies as I do not trust them yet. I have been told that with given the size of my network, I should be able to equal the dedicated hardware, though with more computers. I would just like to give it a shot. If you're just going to tell me it's nit worth it, please don't bother. As I stated, I would like advice on the questions I asked previously.  Thank you.
Definitely not. It is hard for a botnet to have the same hashing power as one ASIC, 45 is much too less. Alt coins can be alright for mining as long as you exchange them to Bitcoins ASAP after mining. You can buy a few second hand ASIC and attach them to the computers. Otherwise, there is no viable way for you to earn.
125  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Auction winner does not pay. What to do? on: October 24, 2015, 11:58:50 AM
Restart the auction and place a neutral trust against him/her. This would prevent further similar incidents as people are more likely to require a deposit first.
126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Passphrase Recovery on: October 24, 2015, 11:42:21 AM
Isn't this what a multisig can do without the use of backup? You can simply generate 4 of 4 multisig and send it to those 4 people and they would not be able to unlock unless 3/4 people agrees. It would be safer as there is a risk of them not being able to find the backup.
127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dice game strategy? on: October 24, 2015, 11:36:56 AM
The problem is usually the bank roll is so high that you have a small amount of money, maybe over the course of a year the site will make you a little bit of BTC.  But I would not rather have my coins in there for an entire year just incase something happened.

It is proportional to what you risk. If you risk a lot then you will gain alot but sometimes you dont need to wait for a year because some website has a good progress just in a short time and you will make like alot from that , you can withdraw it instant if you feel you make enough profit because you can do that

That is exactly what I am talking about.  If you risk 1 BTC in a 100,000 BTC bankroll, the house gains 10BTC, you basically gain .00001BTC.  That doesn't seem worth it to me..

Thats what Im saying, if you dont want to risk more then dont also please Dont be stupid and make some crazy number like that. The highest bankroll so far is PRC with less than 4,500 bitcoin. No other dice site that allow you to invest has 100,000 bitcoin in their bankroll

I was just making up some number for math sake.

You should not make crazy number then because what you make is not correct and misleading. You can still get a decent profit with 1 btc at 4,200 btc bankroll in a year in PRC because last time the site made like 3k bitcoin of profit. Try to be more rational and responsible in what you write

It could also lose money, and then you've lost. Just because it has profit now doesn't mean that's a guarantee. 10 max. wins and the site has lost over a year worth of profit. Only takes one whale.

Of course you can lose your money but we are talking about a year. In a very long time like a year you are gonna get more profit of course because of the house edge. Variance may be make you lose profit but you will always get a profit if you invest for a year because it will even out sooner or later

I hope this was a joke. JD, one of the highest-wagered sites in Bitcoin's history, if not THE highest, went into the negatives and proves this absolutely wrong. You're downplaying a real scenario that has happened MULTIPLE times because you clearly haven't ever actually WATCHED these things and are basing your SUBJECTIVE OPINIONS on something that's completely false. Quit misleading people.

CAN it pull a profit after a year? YES. WILL it? NOBODY KNOWS.
Since when? Nakowa? If I remember, nakowa lost a good portion of it back and it started to increase to positive after many whales lost it back. Yes it is possible to make a profit but we're not talking about 1-2 months here, we are talking about a long time. House would always win due to house edge.
128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin as a secure channel for regular payments. on: October 24, 2015, 11:25:35 AM
Okay, I think I've learned something about the limitations of what can be done with the blockchain.

I don't know how Talk Talk works regards payments (I don't have a mobile. I do have bitcoins), but I guess there must be a reason why it needs to store customer card details.

Anyway, a simple system, if Talk Talk did accept bitcoins, would be for it to just store the user's wallet address against the phone number. That seems pretty secure to me. It could demand up front fees to cover expected use and warn the user if they were getting near their limit, so need to send more bitcoin. It puts the onus for security on the user, but then that's normal for bitcoin users anyway. Am I missing something?
Many sites uses CC instead of Bitcoin as it's accepted widely. It would be impossible for any site to survive solely on using it as a payment method. Not that I support Paypal, but couldn't you implement it on the site and hackers would not be able to compromise user's info?
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.11.1 error: Cannot obtain a lock on data directory on: October 24, 2015, 11:21:12 AM
Since I was able to open Console, I just dumped private keys and swiped them to blockchain.info.

It might be that my internet provider is somehow blocking Bitcoin Core, because it crashed on the other computer too. Anyway, will wait for more stable version or a new computer. Thanks.
Unlikely so. If your internet service provider was blocking Bitcoin nodes, the blocks would still be verified and it would load but would not show any connections to network. I would be against using blockchain.info for large sum of money though, try using other wallets.
130  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin and Porn on: October 24, 2015, 11:18:22 AM
many porn sites has started to allow bitcoin as a payment method. it does offer lower transaction fees, more anonymity when using it compared to payment processors like paypal. they can appear in the balance statement with the note.
So is SEXCOIN. its becoming popular for those in the industry these days. If you have checked their ANN thread here in bitcointalk, some of the cam girls ask fees using sexcoin.  I don't know its value though but certainly its almost known.
Those coins are usually just pump and dump coin with a fancy name to attract people to buy them. It is not needed as Bitcoin can potentially provide the anonymity for these kinds of transactions. Furthermore, most of them don't even have high acceptance rate.

its a great to know that this sex sites have started to accpet bitcoin, now like gambling , this porn sites will attract more and more bicoin users as bitcoin user dont have restriction of who is using and what is their ages, so minor will also use it.

We don't want minors to use porn with bitcoin. It will damage the reputation of Bitcoin.

But, few porn sites are accepting minors, even they don't pay with bitcoin.
So, it can't be helped, just hope it won't damage bitcoin's reputation further.

Even they don't accept minor, but still accept bitcoin, it still could damage bitcoin's reputation.
Some people who thinks porn is bad might bitcoin is currency for bad purpose too Sad
It can't be helped, it would make it easy for minors to pay without using other payment processors but it can't be prevented. They could still find a way to watch them without paying or using Bitcoin. Some minors already have Paypal account, linking it using bank account. They could use that to pay for it too.
131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you believe we need more ways of advertising Bitcoin currency? on: October 23, 2015, 01:46:53 PM
Advertisement is very hard. Bitcoin is not a product, not everyone would be interested to try something out of their comfort zone. Most ads displayed are about everyday stuff. Bitcoin would be a currency that is not backed by anything and not everyone would take the risk and try it out.
132  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Start a Gambling Site on: October 23, 2015, 01:36:45 PM
Forget anything that relates to gambling. Unless you know what you are doing its too risky to own a casino. You may even get shot.

I think the risk is not from competitor. Own the online casino means you need to pay your users wins. And that's mean a high risk for you too.
And when your identity goes to public, some lost user will try to revenge.. nah, bad business.

It's better to give provably fair dice, blackjack and another card game like Crypto-Games.net
Yup you do have to bear the risk. The risk is relatively low in the long term due to the house edge, the house is much more likely to win compared to the gambler which means that in the long run, you would win. Even though, they may win in the short term, you would profit in the long term. You can choose to not reveal your identity. Gambling sites can cheat their investors too.
133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin as a secure channel for regular payments. on: October 23, 2015, 01:32:20 PM
Talk Talk has just been hacked and user bank details likely spilled. If Talk Talk were to accept bitcoins how easy would it be to set up regular payments using the blockchain and how secure would such a system be?
Blockchain.info is not extremely secure for payment systems. It does cause inconvenience if it requires regular subscription based payments, users would have to make payment manually if they don't want to prepay it. Using a POS system would eliminate the need to coding a page for the payments.
134  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: A interesting TX generated by Electrum on: October 23, 2015, 11:15:00 AM
I thought even sending 1 satoshi was be fine as long as the fee was of an appropriate size.

For example: sending 0.00000001 with a 0.0002 fee would go through without issue.

Maybe I am just grossly misinformed.
It can go through if miners choose to accept them. It depends on the policy of them accepting the transaction. The reference client would not relay any transaction with ANY output lower than 2730 satoshis unless the minimum fee for it to relay is changed.  https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/ad57b310bac44a7e470cf66276421f2bbc61b1f0/src/primitives/transaction.h#L155
135  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dice game strategy? on: October 23, 2015, 11:11:41 AM
I will try gambling at Gambit and devise a strategy that will work for me, with minimal loss and higher profits. I will test everything from Martingale, to auto bets and see if I get lucky.  Roll Eyes
Martingale is very risky and is guaranteed not to work. Instead, try to use it at different multiplier and increment. With enough luck, it has a higher probability of yielding profit. Also try labouchere with a large bankroll. It increases slowly and lowers the risk of busting even though you need a larger bankroll for any significant profit.

Gambling site is hard to manage, you need a offshore server or risk getting your bitcoin confiscated for owning an unlicensed gambling site. I  personally would not trust anyone to code the website for me so you would need some coding skills and need to manage the support. I would prefer investing in an existing one.

Then you have to trust the operators of the existing casino. You have to know the casino from inside out. That is still a big task.
True, reputation does take time to build. Always invest in casinos with trusted owners (e.g. just-dice) and have a public cold storage address for transparency. It is much better than losing your/investor's money to hackers or vulnerabilities.
138  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How I Make $5,234Month With Bitcoin - No Trading & Mining on: October 23, 2015, 11:04:27 AM
It does very much look like a scam to me. Firstly, you can create a website to attract views and earn via ads but it would be impossible to even make that much money. If you could earn that much with a website, you need it to be very popular with loads of advertisment.
