121  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: "Avalon" ASIC, announcement & pre-order. second wave @ 9:00am EDT, 10/03 on: October 04, 2012, 02:57:56 PM
I find it pretty unethical to buy for the purpose of taking up a slot and then marking it up.

These vendors should simply make the orders non-transferable, period.

Thanks.
123  Bitcoin / Hardware / New thread for ASIC testing on main net on: October 03, 2012, 08:58:00 PM
I locked the old one because I figured all ASIC developers had stated they wouldn't do it.

I don't see a way to unlock it.

A forum member felt we should continue the discussion.
124  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC testing on main net is wrong, PERIOD. on: October 03, 2012, 07:47:49 PM
This is great to hear and kudos to BFL.

They take a lot of S on here, but they deserve credit on a very ethical decision in my opinion.

Sounds like the hardware folks are in unison on this which is great for the community.
125  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC testing on main net is wrong, PERIOD. on: October 03, 2012, 02:49:11 AM
@crazyates

bro it's not just your units or the ones shipped with your batch.

They will keep testing and testing can't you see that?

You'll be competing against the next batch of orders before they are even shipped.

It's unbelievable that people buy into this stuff.

And yes, those 1000 coins matter, ANY coins matter in a finite supply.

Well I suppose the apologists won't ever quit on this one.
126  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC testing on main net is wrong, PERIOD. on: October 02, 2012, 11:32:08 PM
First off, you're delusional that this money will flow to the consumer.

If these companies publish the amount of coins mined and reflect it in their pricing then fine.

Also, testnet in a box is as much "real world" as the main net. It's NO different for testing purposes, thus why it was developed.
127  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC testing on main net is wrong, PERIOD. on: October 02, 2012, 11:30:11 PM
@crazyates

I get you, but here's the point, it's not just your ASIC and since difficulty only adjust every 2016 blocks, well the effect could be lasting.

Nevermind that this testing will be ongoing, so we're talking a fairly permanent effect on the difficulty.

I see no one answered that the coins will also be gone. As a miner, you'll never be able to mine those coins.

We are all mining based on this same concept, there are 21 million coins available and nearly ten million are gone.
128  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Revised listing 6 x 5870's for sale 11btc each shipped in USA on: October 02, 2012, 11:25:54 PM
Sold them to CoinHoarder and will be shipping soon.
129  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Protect your future GPU mining earnings with CoinLab's 95-97% PPS Pool on: October 02, 2012, 09:21:22 PM
I'm really looking forward to the multiple workers under one account/log-in.

I know I'm unsophisticated in how I manage my miners, but the multiple worker thing is great for me combined with log-me-in to help restart, etc.
130  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC testing on main net is wrong, PERIOD. on: October 02, 2012, 09:18:33 PM
There is testnet in a box plain and simple.

Also, if it's built into the price, then everyone should have been made aware prior to pre-order.

I repeat this is NOT a normal situation.

This is direct competition for a finite resource which is nearly half gone already.

This is direct competition for a finite resource which is distributed in relation to network hashrate.

There is almost no example of a similar situation where this would be common business practice.

The manufacturer's development cost is not our problem. It's already insane that people plunked money down nearly 4 months ago as it is.

That's fine, they took that risk.

They DON'T deserve to be competed against by the same entity or entities.

It's not just BFL, I urge Avalon ASIC, Reclaimer and others to pledge the same.

bASIC has already pledge to test on testnet in a box.

ASICMINER is a mining bond and they were straight up from the beginning about their intentions and have NOT taken any orders for hardware.
131  Bitcoin / Hardware / ASIC testing on main net is wrong, PERIOD. on: October 02, 2012, 08:27:46 PM
I can't believe people are actually advocating on behalf of companies selling us hardware and directly competing with us.

This is not like nearly any other ecosystem where it makes sense to allow a company to compete with you.

THERE ARE ONLY 21 MILLION BITCOINS!!!

Whatever they mine WE never get a chance at, EVER.

It will aartificially inflate the difficulty and it WILL NOT STOP due to ongoing testing.

This community really is insane sometimes, falling for obvious scams, pre-funding vaporware, etc.

Now you think companies "deserve" to profit with your pre-ordered hardware that you funded at 0% interest ?

And artificially inflate the difficulty for the foreseeable future as they "test" these devices ?

One week of ASIC mining in the early days can be HUGE for your profit margin at lowered difficulty.

Come on people, stop and think about this for a moment. You put out your money months in advance, with limited recourse at 0% interest.

YOU DESERVE THE RIGHT TO PROFIT, NOT THE HARDWARE COMPANY!

These should be tested on testnet or testnet in a box only.

Please demand that all ASIC vendors do this.
132  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: High Efficiency FPGA & ASIC Bitcoin Mining Devices https://BTCFPGA.com on: October 02, 2012, 08:20:23 PM
Tom's using testnet because its FAIR, period.

I'm sick of this hand wringing about these manufacturers using YOUR product to compete against you.

It's pure BS as difficulty does not just "change back" it will hurt us miners until difficulty resets which in case you haven't been keeping up is NEVER.

There will be constant "testing" and we will all get screwed by an abnormally high hash rate thus reducing our profit substantially.

We all deserve a decent chance to profit from our investment and not compete with the damn companies that sell this stuff to us.

Bitcoin is a finite world so it DOES matter.

Even a week of unnaturally hire difficulty is HUGE with these units.

Cut the nonsense people, you're screwing yourselves.

I applaud Tom for being honest and ethical with his customers. BFL and all others should do the same, PERIOD.
133  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Revised listing 6 x 5870's for sale 11btc each shipped in USA on: October 02, 2012, 01:53:32 PM
Deal pending to CoinHoarder for all 6 cards. I will post final sale in this thread once transaction is received and item has shipped.
134  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB:Broken Graphics cards... or working on: October 02, 2012, 12:24:00 AM
What about a broken 6970 ?

This story kills me, but I bought this thing in a private sale and it was brand new in the box.

I had run it to test on my test bench and everything was great. I wanted to put a waterblock on it and then realized the block I had was the wrong revision.

I was taking the card out of my car and I dropped the thing on the pavement.

Card didn't look super damaged, but it wouldn't post. I took off the stock heatsink and couldn't see anything major, but no dice.

So not sure if based on your knowledge that tells you it's easy or hard to fix, but make me an offer. I can take some pics if you want.
135  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Revised listing 6 x 5870's for sale 11btc each shipped in USA on: October 01, 2012, 11:41:28 PM
Bought them earlier this year. They have been mining since march or so. So about 6 months.

They have been solid and without issue so far. Actually far more stable than some of my 5970's.
136  Bitcoin / Hardware / Can someone explain how the ASIC vendors can supply double spec hardware ? on: September 30, 2012, 04:35:42 PM
It seems as soon as cablepair announced his bASIC product, BFL started shifting gears.

Then we get the bASIC announcement that his devices can do 54 GH/s instead of the original 27.

Now Tom stated in his initial announcement he was going to be very conservative, so his announcement of double makes sense in that light.

BFL comes out and doubles all their product estimates.

Okay, so this is great for the network, but does anyone know the technical aspects of this and how this is really working?

Are we talking more chips or just underestimating chip hash rates ?

Is this the beginning of the price war everyone discussed earlier ?

Really curious on this.
137  Economy / Economics / Re: Where is Bitcoin in the Technology adoption lifecycle? on: September 30, 2012, 02:26:15 PM
I agree with Timm here. The same can be said for alternative medicine. On the west coast people didn't know what acupuncture was in 1997. By about 2003 people were starting to seek treatment. Now it is old hat, but consumption is still growing rapidly.
138  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Revised listing 6 x 5870's for sale 11btc each shipped in USA on: September 30, 2012, 01:42:05 PM
bump. make an offer on these cards if interested.
139  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB:Broken Graphics cards... or working on: September 28, 2012, 01:37:44 PM
I have a 5970 which artifacts, but mines. It gets unstable and turns itself off occasionally.

It's in my sale thread, but PM me if you're interested.
140  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] [Sold] Revised listing 6 x 5870's for sale 11btc each shipped in USA on: September 28, 2012, 01:20:12 PM
All items as is, they are currently mining right now and I will pull them as soon as they are sold.

I have 6 stock AMD 5870 for sale. All have run well at 900/300 without issue.

Price is 11 BTC each shipped in USA.

I suck at embedding images, but will send you pictures upon request.

All shipping prices are to USA.

For international we can make arrangements on shipping.

My ebay trading name is faithintroy.

I edited this listing because I put the other items on ebay.
