221  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] [WTS] RAVENBIT NODE BRONZE physical bitcoins on: June 23, 2015, 10:06:20 PM
My rolls arrived this morning.  Will hopefully get through them all tonight and see what I end up with.  I might be interested in roll buy #3 depending on the colors I get.
222  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN][WTS] Brand new line of Physical Coins!...***added payment options*** on: June 23, 2015, 10:04:21 PM
Down to just over 100 packs left.  In a couple days it will mark the one month mark.  Will look to other selling opportunities.  Just wanted to give this forum the first shot at these.  Pm me if you would like to buy some.  Would consider bulk discount as well.
My latest order of packs arrived this morning... tonight's going to be interesting, let's see what neat coins and numbers I end up with... crossing my fingers... Smiley
223  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 5oz .999 Silver NastyFans Minted Seats on: June 23, 2015, 09:59:57 PM
I plan to send my coins off to PCGS for grading soon as they arrive.

I was under the impression that PCGS doesn't grade these types of coins.
Agreed.  I think PCGS might grade them, but I don't think they'd really know much about them.  They currently do not list Bitcoin-related items on their "tokens and metals" page, which is what these would be classified under - http://www.pcgs.com/tokensandmedals/

ANACS would be the more appropriate choice for getting these done, just like all the other ones out there (Cas, Lealana, etc).  They seem to have their stuff together, and they supposedly are even working on proper population reports for these, which would be extremely interesting to see.

However, looking through their pages, it seems their limit for tokens is 40.6mm, which I think this round is larger than, correct?  I do believe they certify the US hockey pucks as well, so they should have holders that can handle them.

The good news is that if you're going to do the grading, you wouldn't have to wait for the capsules... Smiley

If you want any help with this let me know, up to and including doing any submissions.

Coin arrived, and it's a beauty.  All good here, you can lock this up, thanks for the great transaction!

if they dont release a miner that is more efficient and half the cost.. its not going to be worth buying.
Ha!!  Don't get your hopes up on the bolded part, I think it'll be a cold day in hell before that happens.

I'm expecting to see the S7 somewhere around 0.4w/gh efficiency.  If they keep the same PCB layout and number of chips I'd figure they'd be hitting around 1.35-1.4TH/s for about the same power draw, basically just upping the efficiency by 20%.  I expect the price to be over $400 when released, just like the S5 was when it was first released.

If they don't beat those numbers by a larger margin, I honestly don't see mass sales.  Anyone with >0.7w/gh and expensive power I could see them pulling the trigger and doing an upgrade, but I really can't see many with S5's feeling the need to immediately upgrade, even those with not great power costs.  Those with free or cheap power it doesn't make much sense to upgrade anything newer than an S4 I would think (unless the price is, as you hoped, halved).
227  Other / Meta / Re: Subforum request - "Physical Bitcoins / Collecting" subforum on: June 20, 2015, 11:44:57 PM
Thanks, I was curious and honestly I didn't spend a ton of time searching.

I'm on the fence. Not sure there's enough threads to warrant their own section really.
Well, for argument's sake I could also say that counting existing threads isn't the total picture.  How many threads aren't started because there's really no good place to put them in, and also how many threads go unseen or with very little views because they're in odd places and keep getting bumped down.  Sections like Bitcoin Discussion and even general Economics have so much activity, I could argue threads lose traction there because of getting pushed down.  Meanwhile if they were on their own, they'd get more eyes and activity.

That aside, at the moment slightly more than 1/3 the threads just on the first page in the Marketplace -> Goods section are coin-related sales threads (13 out of 37 by my quick count).  To me, that seems like a high enough number to at the very least warrant a separate section for them under there, just like computer hardware has.

I could see maybe 2 sections - "General Coin Discussion" and "For Sale" which I think would sustain enough use to justify them.  My opinion tho... Smiley

I'm sure some staffs/admins said that they won't wmake a new sub board if there's going to be only a few topics inside. so you probably on't get (more than) one. 4 subsection are a lot for a single subject.

Indeed .
OP Please open a poll so we can vote and staff members & administration can take their decision based on the vote results . I'am personally with the idea
Added as requested.  Good idea, thank you.

I can see their point, but I think there's enough interest just in the for sale posts alone to fill 2-3 sections.  I've run forums before and creating the actual sub-boards is the easy part.  It's the moderation and maintenance part that is very time consuming, and it grows with each additional section for sure.  Hence I'm also volunteering to put my time where my mouth is.

First hurdle is agreeing that there's enough interest for at least one tho... Smiley
230  Other / Meta / Subforum request - "Physical Bitcoins / Collecting" subforum on: June 20, 2015, 06:31:39 PM
I assume Meta is the proper place for this, so here I go.

I'd like to bring up a request for a new subforum to be created surrounding physical incarnations of Bitcoins and other Altcoins.  I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with this idea, but I did do a search and didn't really see anything related to this in the cursory look I gave it.

Right now most things related to physical coins and rounds for Bitcoin and other Alts are in the "Goods" subforum in the Marketplace.  This is fine for the threads that revolve around the sale of them.

However, I personally think there is way much more to the area of physical coins than just the sales.  There's really no good place for any discussion of the collecting of them, no centralized info on how to grade them for newbies or discussion on grades for particular coins or series, no showplace for your own pieces, etc.  There's no real good place for vendors to discuss upcoming plans or designs, except to announce a pre-order in the goods section.  There's no place to have threads to keep track of what's out there, though the threads do exist but they're hard to locate at times (yeah, I know such thing as a search button exists).  There's no real good collection of the history of physical bitcoins.

Finally, the threads of coins and rounds for sale make up a good majority of the Goods subforum, so I think there's both a good argument for being able to keep them in one place, as well as an argument that it's hard to sell things that aren't coins because those threads get bumped down so frequently.

As far as structure and where to put it, I think a main subforum should go under "Economics" I guess.  This top level should contain at least 3 sub-forums - "Vendor announcements and Discussions", "For Sale / Trade" (which could possibly be broken up into 2, one for vendors only, and one for private sales), and "Collecting Discussions".  Obviously Trust should extend into this section as the Marketplace currently has.

I realize creating and maintaining yet another subforum takes work so I'm not suggesting this on a whim, I really do believe there would be enough mass to make it worthwhile.  I'm willing to offer my time to help with anything related to this effort, including offering to be a moderator for this section.

Thank you for your time.
231  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Pool Choice on: June 20, 2015, 02:02:12 PM
I'll echo johnnybravo's comments, especially the one to not use antpool (and all Chinese pools for that matter).

I have all my miners pointed to MRR to start.  When they're not rented, I split my hash between ckpool and NastyPool - a p2pool instance with a custom front end called NastyPoP.  This front end attempts to pay miners more evenly, which reduces variance and helps stabilize payouts for smaller miners running on standard p2pool. Check my sig for links to read for more info, and also read the thread Johnny has going about the comparison between NastyPoP/NastyPool and standard p2pool.

I also recommend to always use at least two different pools.  First reason is obviously failover in case one pool goes down.  The other reason is to even out luck, and have two sources of income in case one pool happens to have a bad luck streak.

Still the bitcoin eludes me... Sad

But, some coins of note that I landed -
Shadowcoin #007
Clams #001
Litecoin #009
Namecoin #003

I may have to get some more of these to try to get that Bitcoin...
235  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 5oz .999 Silver NastyFans Minted Seats on: June 19, 2015, 01:41:56 AM
There's 30,000 possible active seats (shares) available in total in the "fund".

If the fund is able to raise 30,000 Satoshi, each seat would get a dividend payback of 1 Satoshi.

I should correct this.  25% of BTC raised is distributed to NastyMining for future equipment purchases.  So NastyFans would have to raise 40,000 satoshis in order for each seat to receive 1 satoshi.
Oooh, good clarification.  I'll amend my blurb in case I use it again.

Also, owlcatz, I do exactly what you were asking about - pointing multiple seats' worth of donations to a single coin.

Since it's publicly viewable info anyways...

http://nastyfans.uberbills.com/?page=owners&name=TheAnalogKid

I own 5 of the minted 1oz rounds, but I also own 299 additional online seats.  4 of the coins I funded with 0.1BTC on my own.  The first coin in the list (3Jpa) however, was not funded with anything extra - I only have the donation from all my seats pointed there (the 1 seat tied to that particular round and the 299 online ones).  The majority of those seats - 275 total - were purchased in April, so it's accumulated that balance in about 2 months, just to give you an idea of what it's been like recently.

236  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 5oz .999 Silver NastyFans Minted Seats on: June 18, 2015, 10:21:10 PM
sooo.. can you explain (again, probably), what those "seats" are for?
A wholesale explanation of what NastyFans is and what seats are can be found in this thread and subsequent links:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=86854.0

However, for cliff notes, I'm paraphrasing something I wrote in a different thread for NastyKeno, but here's my take on what a "seat" is.

Think of it this way.  You could use the term "fund" if you want to compare it to a traditional fiat-type investment (with one distinction I'll outline below).

1 seat = 1 share in the "fund"

There's 30,000 possible active seats (shares) available in total in the "fund".

If the fund is able to raise 30,000 Satoshi, each seat would get a dividend payback of 1 Satoshi.

The fund attempts to grow it's total BTC holdings by several means.  Currently the main sources of income are sales from physical silver cold-wallet type storage coins (i.e. this 5oz round), and mining donations.  Several people, myself included, run miners which donate some or all mining proceeds to the fund, which are then distributed as donation payouts to all seats.    There are other things being developed which, over time, hope to increase the fund's income significantly, so that your eventual distributions are greater than what you put into it.  By doing that, it should in theory increase the value of the seat you purchased, as well as the amount of dividend returns.

The main difference here is that unlike many of the other "investments" you see around, the fund does not hold onto the BTC it takes in, rather each week a distribution is made to all seat holders for whatever BTC are made during the past week.  This prevents a lot of potential issues other funds see, such as hacked or stolen hot wallets with all proceeds - no one holder has the main stash of BTC funds so it cannot simply be run off with by one person (or a group) thus leaving all the investors with a total loss of investment, etc."

Hopefully that helps answer it a little better for you.

^^This is the winning bid. Congratulations to TheAnalogKid

Please PM me your shipping info and send payment to the address in the OP.

Well done TheAnalogKid. You got a great coin at a fair price.

If for whatever reason you need to sell in the future, please consider me a potential buyer.  I just bought the 'sister' coin from Panthers52. Would love to bring them back together one day

I wanted this one but had to respect the wife and her limits on my crypto buying. Happy wife happy life and all that lol.

Indeed, very fair price.  I've bought them raw and know what they're worth so the high grade for the price is worth it.

I'm on the lookout for an MS-68, so if I find one and am able to acquire it, I'll let you know.   I got Panthers' graded 0.25 a couple weeks ago with the gold seal, so that's also in the collection.  Quite a nice coin, as are pretty much all of smoothie's, congrats Smiley
238  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] [WTS] RAVENBIT NODE BRONZE physical bitcoins on: June 17, 2015, 01:22:49 AM
Canada I wouldn't mind shipping to... coins are easier than hardware... Smiley

I'm in for at least 3 rolls also.  I don't mind being central distributor for the 10-pack if you wanted, but if mrbrt is willing to ship direct at cost, that might work out well also.  I'm one who would be trying to complete a full color set, so if I have to open more than 3 rolls I wouldn't be too upset... Smiley

239  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1500 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: June 16, 2015, 11:46:27 PM
Agreed. Not all S5's are OC'able to the same extent, some don't like it at all. 425 is very OC'd - I would restart it at standard settings & slowly work your way up until you notice a failure, then back it up a notch. You'll find it will be not only more efficient, but less hassle also.

Yep, 425 is quite overclocked.  I had a farm of over 40 units and only 4 of them reliably worked at 425.  Most of them were capable of hitting 412.5, but not sustaining it.  387.5 was where the majority of them were happy and honestly the difference between 387.5 and 425 is not that much.

I'm not real surprised it's not stable at that rate.

Anyone up for a Group Buy for the 30% discount?  I'd be willing to get 3 rolls.
If you're in the US I'd be up for doing this.
