HTTPS might increase load too much for the server to handle.
The cookies also need to be made secure. Right now you'll send them over an insecure connection if you ever visit any HTTP page even if you use HTTPS normally.
Properly configured servers won't have any issues with SSL. Poor excuse. SSL does actually cause extra server load, even if it's just a little. For something that is under DDoS rather often (like these forums) that may be a dealbreaker.

So I have a wierd error my code is this $bitcoinController = new BitcoinClient($rpcType, $rpcUsername, $rpcPassword, $rpcHost, 8332);
This part works and when it print_r($bitcoinController); I see that it outputs and array like this BitcoinClient Object ( [no_multicall] => 1 [return_type] => jsonrpcvals [path] => / [server] => 316.28.27.298 [port] => 8332 [method] => http [errno] => [errstr] => [debug] => 0 [username] => xxxxx [password] => xxxxx [authtype] => 1 [cert] => [certpass] => [cacert] => [cacertdir] => [key] => [keypass] => [verifypeer] => 1 [verifyhost] => 0 [proxy] => [proxyport] => 0 [proxy_user] => [proxy_pass] => [proxy_authtype] => 1 [cookies] => Array ( ) [extracurlopts] => Array ( ) [accepted_compression] => Array ( - => gzip [1] => deflate ) [request_compression] => [xmlrpc_curl_handle] => [keepalive] => 1 [accepted_charset_encodings] => Array (
- => UTF-8 [1] => ISO-8859-1 [2] => US-ASCII ) [request_charset_encoding] => [user_agent] => XML-RPC for PHP 3.0.0.beta )
The above array looks like it is either connecting successfully, or it just reads the config to get all the info and stops(Can someone clear this up that the array means its connecting, scince isn't bitcoin-php is supposed to fail on bad connection?) anyways, when it try{}catch{} it and try to output the exception i get no errors the script just skips over it basically. I can't even do a simple $bitcoinController->getDifficulty(); after connecting it just dosn't out put anything I have php errors set to E_ERROR | E_WARNING | E_PARSE | E_NOTICE just so I can pick up on anything... what is wrong? 316.28.27.298 does not look like a valid IP to me. It sure isn't my server isn't secure enough yet for me to realease it. But I did copy and paste it into the config files and they do match correctly. I can connecto through pushpool and start mining just fine. Its just that through php (maybe user permissions?) it dosn't want to connect to it. I also tried setting up a cross server mysql for remote server and that worked just fine with out opening an ports. So in other words I was able to connect from my webhosting->to VPS database succesfully but the bitcoin server wasn't connecting, so I tried doing this locally instead of a remote server and the local server reports no errors yet when I tried connected remotly it said BitcoinClient - Error Conneciton(111) excpetion,etc, etc, blah, blah.
I know its got to be a simple problem, I can taste it. Ahhh... I thought you may have typoed on the IP (start with a 3 instead of a 2) or something. Anyhow, I don't have any experience with this kind of thing yet.. so I'm not sure what the problem is. Have you double checked all other configuration options?

Zong is centralized, so it can be controlled by Ebay/government/whomever. It has nothing on Bitcoin.
Average people don't really care that much about "been controlled" by ? and ? and ?. They do if that control prohibits them from freely using their money. Controlled currency: Someone else imposes fees on you, tells you when you can pay, how much you can pay, imposes restrictions on who you can pay to, and can even take back money paid to you already. Don't forget the power of marketing and propaganda. If people are told it's for their own best, or, better yet, for their safety, then they will accept almost anything coming to them. Look at the sexual harrassment coming from TSA agents. First in airports, soon in bus stations and malls and then on the streets. If you accept that, then I think you accept anything. With bitcoins all those are irrelevant and unavailable. It's one reason why I think it will always have at least some future.
When 2 people have a bitcoin wallet, money will travel freely between them. There is nobody to tell you what you can, or can't do with your money. If you have it, you can pay with it to anyone who accepts it.
But people will have fear doing that because 'they' tell them it's dangerous and/or outright forbidden. One solution: counter-propaganda.

Hey, Just wondering if anyone knows a site or app that shows the differences between the current sale price for bitcoins on various exchanges? So far i've come across bitcoincharts.com, http://btc-alert.appspot.com, and the Chrome extension Bitcoin Ticker. Bitcoin Ticker just shows current USD market values, btc-alert just alerts you when MtGox' price goes above/below a certain value, and bitcoincharts from what i can see just shows values over time rather than giving you the current value at each exchange. Ideally there would be a tool that alerted you when the price _difference_ between two exchanges goes beyond a given threshold, but if anyone knows of something that simply lists the differences that would be great. There's got to be unix scripts that can read this data, right? Cheers. I believe there are some Bitcoin Exchange Arbitrage Opportunity sites over the web... they would provide the info you're looking for. I'm not sure where they are, but should be easy to find with a Google search.

No one with a domain name aside from bitcoin.xxx should worry. There are plenty of trademarked names used in URL's all over the place. For example, the Gears of War 2 forum. http://www.gearsofwar2forums.com/Gears of War is a trademarked name, yet it is being used in a URL by a 3rd party. This is allowed. Cybersquatting could come in to play with a domain like bitcoin.com. Even bitcoin.org should be fine though, as it is an established site and doesn't "look" like an intended cyber squat. The laws regarding trademarks and URLs are only meant to protect companies who are basically being bribed to use the domain name that should rightfully be theirs. Fan sites are usually explicitly allowed in the ToS of games, and they usually do reserve the right to tell them to c&d if the ToS is not met. Really depends on what the content of the sites are too. While an obvious cyber squatting site is an almost sure loss in the arbitration, it is not the only way to lose. While that was the intent as to why the rules got put in place, like most things they can be strectched beyone that if the attacked party does not have resources to defend themselves. The fact a domain has more words in it then just bitcoin would not be a sure defence. Any instances of this actually holding up in court? As in, a company successfully took down a domain name of someone for a reason other than cyber squatting, or due to ToS, etc? I mean, you don't have to accept any ToS to create a domain name, so I'm not sure how that applies... I agree it is not a sure defense (what defense is, really?), but unless there are instances of courts seizing domain names for a reason other than cybersquatting, I am not worried. While not sure if it's relevant to trademarks... JaGeX (the company behind Runescape) has a history of trying to get sites shut down (specifically cheating sites and sites that offer tools like custom clients). I believed they've relaxed their stance now, but this used to be a serious issue.

What you as Americans should be up in arms about is the fact that you can't access it... In the land of the free :-)
You must be kidding? Why can't Americans access the only viewable English language 24 hour news channel? I find it hard to believe that Al Jazeera leaves America out? CNN and the like is just commercials interrupted by weather reports and short, shallow and totally uninteresting news headlines. Al Jazeera has real content most of the time, gets the news out faster and goes more in depth. Al Jazeera has an amazing ability to be where the news happens when it happens (I often wonder if they are psychic), and the story is over before the other channels gets there and pretend it's news. During the Israeli attack on Gaza, Al Jazeera were the only media in the war zone, etc. And they are less biased than most other media. Not speculating or having biased people analyse things to much, and instead telling and showing what is really happening. Al Jazeera is the best 24 hour news channel ever. Far better than all competition. Americans should demand that Al Jazeera start transmitting to North America. I believe they literally have reporters all over the world all the time... and offices. I remember how in one of the Arab revolutions (the Tunisian one? not sure) the media office building where their local office was, was actually stormed by police, and they were even reporting that live, and filming a 'riot' from out of their window.

what is bitcoin?
Lots of definitions for bitcoins, one thing is for sure...Its tax free. Not entirely true. I believe it was established a while ago that Bitcoin would technically fall under barter tax.

No offense to the other guys, but MtGox is the only place that really matters. TH has some volume and CampBX has a lot of nice features, but neither have the numbers that Gox does.
What I'd like to see on Gox is more advanced trading features like auto stop loss, and possibly a pay-for 0 commission service.
To paraphrase a reply posted on another forum yesterday regarding Bitcoin: "So you walk up to a few construction workers working on the foundation of a building, and start shouting 'This is not going to work guys! You can't even live in that, it has no roof, this is useless! You're wasting your time!'" Especially CampBX seems to have the features and security (from what I have seen), but it has only existed for what? 3 days? Of course it has a low trading volume. Is that a reason to not use it? No, that's a reason to start using it and increase that volume!

I have an idea, isnt it possible to fight botnets to reroute the traffic back to its own pcs? But,Only 1 PC of this Botnet at a time gets all the traffic for a limited time. If this PC hangsup, next PC of the Botnet gets the traffic.
does anybody think this could work?
(maybe send the Traffic at the Command & Controll port? )
There are several issues with this: 1. When successful you will be taking out internet connections of people that have nothing to do with it (whose computer is infected with a bot). 2. Your bandwidth is already getting raped, so it'll be hard to send anything of significance the other way 3. You typically can't just find the C&C server... you only have the IP addresses of the infected computers/rooted servers that are attacking you. It would take a considerable amount of cracking (into a compromised server or computer) to figure out where the C&C is. 4. You will only be able to attack 1 or a few IPs at the same time... botnets often rely on numbers rather than individual capacity, rendering your attack useless. When you stop attacking a machine, it just comes back as if nothing happened. 5. It's blatantly illegal to do all of the above, and will most likely not only get your server shutdown by your hosting provider, but will also get you into legal issues.

What has allegedly happened on 9/11 has influenced a LOT of things related to 'counter-terrorism' in the US nowadays. I'd say it's a very good thing to find the truth behind what happened, if it impacts the daily lives of not just US citizens, but also of people around the world, so immensely. 9/11 was where counter-terrorism law was essentially born.
Well yea i sure would wanna see all those ridiculous laws out of my country (i'm not in the us), but what do you think would change assuming the entire world would be presented super-hard totally undeniable evidence 911 was an inside job ? NOTHING. A lot would change because you have hard evidence that you can plant in the face of everyone who still blindly believes that all these anti-terrorism laws are 'for the good of the people'.

Noone? Relax. This is a busy forum. Someone will read your message eventually. I know, I was just... surprised that it pretty much got bumped down over half of the Marketplace topic list, with only 19 views and no responses at all... I'd expected a bit more response

I don't get it why people waste so much time on ONE single events details. The government did what it is good at, it f*cked up, not once but 4 times: first it failed to protect america on 911, then it failed to fire the people who were responsible for that defence, it created unamerican laws domestically and abroad (ie: patriot-act) and 4th it started a war against a country that had nothing to do with it (from governments point of view i can forgive the 3rd and the 4th, afterall it was a window of opportunity to abuse). I just leave it at that, everything else is just details.

IMHO only one exchange has a "face".
I have found that Tradehill responds to email and they post here in their own name.
MT Gox never responds to email.
Any other new exchange must first proof themselfs.
So do Britcoin (thus also Intersango).
