721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Blockchain.info/wallet is the BEST Bitcoin client as-of-date. on: February 12, 2012, 06:19:19 PM
https://blockchain.info/wallet

It's the easiest and safest client to use. You load the webpage, enter your credentials and you have access to your funds. Your coins are not stored anywhere but your head through your password and possibly your email account, if you so choose. You only need to trust your memory and your email account, nothing more.

You don't need an over-engineered feature such as multi-signature transactions. You don't need to keep a Bitcoin private key on your phone, on your computer and with a third-party. You only need yourself. This is sensible design at its finest.

While the interface is far from intuitive and accessible to everyone (especially to newer users), it meets all the functionality that a Bitcoin user needs.

I think Blockchain.info should serve as THE example of what all Bitcoin client developers should strive for in features and functionality. Though, again, the interface needs a lot of work. However, the fact that it works solely in the browser and works on every internet-connected device with no need for any installation is the step forward that everybody needs to take. Blockchain.info has taken the greatest leap forward by using only the browser.

I suggest everybody else do the same. Desktop-based clients are a dead-end path. The browser is the inevitable future.

What are the community's thoughts?

how configurate bit coins to using with tor?
If you want to use the default Bitcoin client with Tor, check this article:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Tor

If you need any more help, please ask. : )

I recommend funneling your Bitcoin transactions through Tor.

Just use blockchain.info or another online wallet while using the Tor browser bundle or otherwise.

However, do not attempt to purchase Bitcoins on an exchange under Tor unless you plan to use a lesser-known VPN in addition to it. They'll just shut you down before you can withdraw due to anti-money laundering laws and such.

You can simply funnel your Bitcoins through The Silk Road after you purchase, which will break any ties to your purchasing location. Your coins will be mixed on a sub-cent scale with hundreds (maybe thousands) of other Bitcoins and made highly trace-resistant.

There are other launderers but use your own discretion when trying them.

Why remove him ? You can ignore him anytime and problem solved.
Nothing personal, but I do not endorse any kind of censorship.
Censorship? They have the rest of the internet to use.

I will give 1 Bitcoin to whoever owns this community if he/she removes Coinhunter and RealSolid from this forum.

I recently had a personal encounter with one of these gentlemen and I've read about their charade. I usually wouldn't waste my energy on this but the experience I had with him was just too much. I want them gone and I can imagine you do as well.

Any more pledges?

March 11, 2012.

Expect big things. You heard it here first.

Will it be an announcement that it's closed due to a lack of interest?
Is there an inside joke I am missing here?

What I am going to do tonight is offer a constructive critique of Bitcoin in its current form. It seems that is what this discussion is lacking.
Instead of telling us you are going to do something, just do it.
I'll do just that.
729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Idea: A fund for an alternative Bitcoin development team. on: February 11, 2012, 01:37:14 AM
I will be justifying my criticism very shortly.

If you've got a great business model and funding for a much better bitcoin client, more power to you!

If you're planning on defacing one of the web servers that I haven't been keeping up-to-date (because I'm busy doing Bitcoin-related things) or hacking my gmail account to prove that I'm not The World's Best Security Expert... then I'll save you the trouble:

I am not the World's Best Security Expert.
I am not the World's Best Programmer.
I am not a cryptographer.
I am not an expert on finance or banking or monetary systems.
I am not an expert on leading open source projects.

And I hope someday I get replaced as the technical lead for this project. I'm sure there are lots of people better qualified than me, I'm just doing the best I can to try to help make Bitcoin a success.

I don't like to see you humble yourself. That's not what I want. I just want to see Bitcoin built to a more human-based direction; especially by perspectives other than my own.

What I am going to do tonight is offer a constructive critique of Bitcoin in its current form. It seems that is what this discussion is lacking.

I don't think there's any reason to call for the resignation of existing teams though.  If you don't like Gavin's client, then use a client you do like.

I will be justifying my criticism very shortly.

This thread is relevant to my original intentions.

Our firm has decided to hold back from revealing ourselves and even accepting clientele for Bitcoins. With the recent addition of talent, we will now be working on Bitcoin software.

I am just an interested party.

Or you essentially lied to get whitelisted and immediately began bashing Gavin and the developers of the software. Yeah, that’s a good way to drum up future customers.
I have not lied. Again, I am just an interested and curious party.

As a significant shareholder, I disagree. If Bitcoin was a company and had a board, I would of asked for Gavin's resignation long ago.

but oh wait...it isnt. and you are not a shareholder. you are just some random noob claiming to be of overaverage importance.

Gavin gives me the impression of a tinkerer, an experimenter, a hobbyist. When it comes to Bitcoin being made as a product for human beings, I find him completely lacking.

you have to make it work before you make it pretty.

He's not a business person and he admits that shamelessly. What Bitcoin needs more than ever is the human element.

business - human element ... oxymoron anyone?  Wink

The function of a tool and its interface are one. A tool that cannot be successfully and easily used is not a functional tool at all. Is not the purpose of technology to make tasks easier and more efficient? Anyways, as far as I'm concerned, Bitcoin works very well internally.  Bitcoin has proven to be stable software.

True businesses have always excelled at serving humanity. The ones who don't inevitably fail. Corporations and states are another story.

Gavin is the right guy to lead the team.  "herding cats" is not an easy task.

Developers are free to make their own lightweight or mobile clients, which are also needed in the bitcoin world.

As a significant shareholder, I disagree. If Bitcoin was a company and had a board, I would of asked for Gavin's resignation long ago.

I am confident people will inevitably agree and act upon this -- far beyond simple clients.

I am seeing a lot of complaints about the current Bitcoin development powers that be.

The question is does the desire for a new development team with an agenda independent of Mr. Andresen's and friends truly exist? Is it big enough?

If so, Bitcoin shareholders should have little issue raising the money for another team.

I am opening a web design firm that takes only Bitcoins. I would like to be whitelisted so I can advertise it in the right place.
737  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Litecoin and ARM CPUs: A crypto-currency you can mine on the $25 Raspberry Pi? on: February 06, 2012, 05:56:41 AM
wouldn't the processing power be too insignificant to prevent counterfeiting and keep the crypto-currency secure...
A whole, cheaply-aquired farm of mobile devices would provide significant processing power. Every hash supports the network, no matter the source.

Even if one hobbyist only supports the network with one Raspberry Pi node, she is still making the network stronger. She is still creating another point that would have to be comprised in order to control the network.

738  Other / Beginners & Help / Litecoin and ARM CPUs: A crypto-currency you can mine on the $25 Raspberry Pi? on: February 06, 2012, 05:31:15 AM
It would be nice if a community member or two could make a crypto-currency work on ARM proccessors; the top cpu architecture used in mobile devices. Since Litecoin is the crypto-currency of CPUs, this seems like the most viable candidate.

Why? Well, you could start mining with a Raspberry Pi for only $25 (http://www.raspberrypi.org/). I find that pretty cool. You could also theoretically mine on used iPhones, iPod Touches and other discarded devices. Support could be brought to payment networks with little start-up cost and little energy by anyone.  People in lesser-off parts of the world could make a living off the world's electronic waste. This helps people, further decentralizes the benefiting currency while making it stronger.

Another possible pro is this could lead to less electronic waste in our environment.

Thoughts?
