281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / any other (than PRE) good choice for altcoin representing decent search engine on: January 16, 2018, 11:18:53 PM
I held few PRE coin because of its team's idea of decentralized. But firstly coin is going nowhere and secondly the worst of all, they all chose to list their coin on coinexchange.io. From out of 15 something exchange I use, coinexchange.io is fucking one of worst two the other one being hitbtc. I am considering to sell it back and buy something else but something that can be a substitute for PRE but better choice.

Is there anything out there in 1100 something coin? Thanks!
282  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / BITLOCKER vs. NANO LEDGER on: January 10, 2018, 12:50:51 AM
Instead of using nano ledger, one might be normal USB hard drive to copy all its 12-word key and encrypt the drive using Windows bitlocker.

Once drive is encrypted, you'd need to remember the master key. There are two options for master key, one is TPM (less desirable because key is stored on TPM which is bound to that particular PC). Other option is password option.

There is also option to unlock automatically with certain laptop and CPU if you want and another option is always ask for password.

It will also help to remember the Windows version to which the drive was encrypted first because  some of the bitlocker on certain Windows Server is not compatible and some version of Windows simply does not support bitlocker. I can not give more details on it.

283  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: how to get taxed on bitcion for LT gain on: January 09, 2018, 11:27:59 PM
i am in usa buddy land of watchdogs: cia, whitehouse, fbi and the likes.
284  Bitcoin / Legal / how to get taxed on bitcion for LT gain on: January 09, 2018, 04:38:39 AM
i started mining now, I am planning to hold about 50% for long term and sell immediately the other half. I am expecting ST gain @ 39% for the ones that I sell immediately (assumption) and hoping that I can get taxed for LT gain for the ones I will hold over a year. Do you think that is possible?
285  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: inurriing huge shapeshift transaction fee or something else on: January 07, 2018, 09:53:30 AM
looking from shapeshift's website, the bitcoin miner's fee will be is listed as 0.002 which @ today's rate 0.002 * 17000-ish = 34$.
286  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / inurriing huge shapeshift transaction fee or something else on: January 07, 2018, 09:42:31 AM
Ok here is the numbers shown on coinomi just before I submitting transaction through shapshift. From zcash to btc conversion the screen shows :

Exchange:
0.643 ZEC @ 558.59 USD

Transaction fee:
0.000180 ZEC @ 0.16 USD

Receive:
0.02516935 BTC @ 428.36 USD

Rounding the fractions and small disregarding small transaction fee for ZEC,
558-428=130$ disappear through thin air? Where did it go?

Is this a another transaction on fee on BTC blockchain? From what I understood shapeshifting involves sending ZEC in this instance to shapeshift's own address and then shapeshift will send me a BITCOIN from their address.

Or this is due to arbitrage?

I think I have moderately good understanding on bitcoin technicals (althought it is wearing out) but I think I will need more time studying on fee calculation I wonder where the good resource on this.

287  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: pre-token purchase eth wallet qualification: coinbase support on: January 07, 2018, 09:32:55 AM
i am considering to buy gamer pre-token fund, but now it says my etherium wallet must meet following req:
DO NOT ADD A WALLET THAT DOESN'T SUPPORT ALT COINS SUCH AS COINBASE. YOUR COINS WILL BE LOST.
If you are unsure, please contact support or choose 'I don't have a wallet' so that we can create a wallet for you.

How do I know if it support? I am thinking to put coinomi eth address. Thanks.,

use ethwallet that support erc20 token like myetherwallet, parity, misk or something like that. don't use wallet form exchange or your token will be lost forever.

ok thanks, I hesitated then use their own wallet for now and they give me import file. How do I Know if partiular wallet will support erc20 token?
I normally use coinomi if it does not support, do you have suggestion? THanks.,

289  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin Taxes USA on: January 03, 2018, 08:31:37 PM
Here is the typical difficulties I can see:

scenario 1:
you buy btc 0.5 amount at 15k$ which is 7.5k$
Through shufflling and shapeshifting, once converted back to BTC now you BTC has grown to 1 BTC at 15k$ with no change in market price of BTC itself.

Now you sell your 1 BTC  back at 15k$

Here are the problem with this:
1. How do one know if 1 BTC sold back is really originated from 0.5 you purchased earlier? or was it mined? it is hard to say because you have been shufflng.
2. Okay assume entire 1 BTC  is originated from the previous purchase of 0.5 BTC but in case it is not, then it will be also head-scratcher.
3. Assuming your sale of  1 BTC is originated from 0.5 BTC earlier, is your gain? 7.5k$? That sucks because BTC price at the purchase and sell was same and there is no way, you could have made 7.5k$ then.

The above is just one of many thousands of different possible scenarios.
290  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin Taxes USA on: January 02, 2018, 10:48:49 PM
amount of gain probably matter: if you gain is 1000$ chances are you are probably not even in the radar. But make several million or billion, the uncle sam is running after you like a bloodthirsty bloodhound.
291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: miner for Lyra2REv2 ? on: December 29, 2017, 09:44:52 PM
I use VTCminer pushed out by vertcoin team. Much more efficent even with the 2 percent fee
do they support linux version? If i remember correctly they dont.
I dont remember off the top, but the good news is that it is all open source, especially considering it is all on their git - it makes it easy to build from source if you like.
LOL mind you, Open source is crap, it rarely builds and expensive in term of time and effort.
292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hive OS - new Linux GPU mining platform on: December 28, 2017, 09:02:58 PM
is it bootable operating system or application?? Because this thread title says it is OS but when I look at their download page I see a file with extension .exe.
Bootable OS usually come in ISO format for burning onto DVD unless I am missing something.
293  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / good wallet that stores most or many major coins on binance? on: December 28, 2017, 09:00:54 PM
I have purchased almost 10k worth of coin of about 15 different varieties on binance.com, and it is great platform with app that works seemlessly. THe only problem is at some point, I am going to cease trading as mcuh as it is now and just going to HODL.
Since binance is online exchange, I am sort of weary so wanna moved most of all of them into private independent wallet.

The best one I have been using is coinomi but it does not support all coins I purchased over binance except the vertcoin.
Now I have like XRP, SNM, XLM and the likes like a sitting duck if they get hacked. Does anyone have any suggestions or know any? Thanks!

295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / is there a consistent relationship between mining difficulty and coin price? on: December 28, 2017, 08:50:29 PM
I have contemplating about this and even consider capturing data however havent had a chance yet.
I presume if the coin price plummets then people will lose interest and move to other profitable coin and as a result, falling coin's difficulty would decrease but so far I havent quite noticed that with zcash. Sometimes it seems opposite is happening.
But I'd really need to capture long term data over long enough time range to see any relationship and/or pattern being observed.
296  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: miner for Lyra2REv2 ? on: December 28, 2017, 08:47:51 PM
i have tried using ccminer but it has been developed with piece of crap, amateur engineers, all the readme.txt is littered and infested with donation address yet, fucking thing does not even build.

Prebuilt binary fucking throws out the error message when run from linux with some sort of cudalibart missing. I only deliberately spend at most half hour knowing that the linux software like this amateuristic nature  has tendency to wear out people's patience and after I purposely decide to quit after setting the appropriate env variable, it was still not working. What they release is a piece of junk that should not be out there in the market and being advertised.

I am looking for a reliable linux miner like the ones used in ewbf for xmr, vert and possibly other ones.

299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to buy bitcoin gold in the usa? on: December 23, 2017, 03:32:42 AM
thx looks like outdated post now. I got it through coinomi once they added support.
300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sol/s vs H/s on: December 19, 2017, 08:08:06 PM
Sol/s vs H/s are equal or not?

I have a Cpu currently giving me 760+ H/s, what would be this hash rate in Sol/s if I mine Zcash?

good question, always wondered.
