41  Economy / Exchanges / Re: is it a pattern of new scam: in the name of KYC, lock their fund. on: January 21, 2021, 06:32:28 AM
Identity verification request is essential for your protection. You lose access to your account, so if they give access to your account easily you may lose your money.
As long as you want to deal with central platforms, choose a reliable one and be prepared for all kinds of identity verification, including sending a video (with the development of Photoshop, sending pictures is not enough).

AFAIK, Binance is trusted one.

Xwallet: I haven't heard of it, did you mean XWallet by Pundi X Labs?

Cryptopedia: is good 3.7/5

Where did I say verification is not essential. Are you reading my post correctly?
42  Economy / Exchanges / is it a pattern of new scam: in the name of KYC, lock their fund. on: January 21, 2021, 02:22:02 AM
It is happening on several exchanges I dealt with: worst offenders are binance, and also bad enough: xwallet and potentially cryptopedia.
I understand KYC is important but lot of times, the login fails to work at one point and restoring password is incredibly difficult or impossible as these exhanges refuse to unlock citing KYC, security after going through their standard verification process and asking for more.

Binance asked me to send me a VIDEO of myself after going through extensive verification to restore my password that stopped working after taking several weeks back and forth e-mail with their cust. service. I cited privacy concern and whether their next stage of their verification will be a the video of my dicks or some private part and they stopped responding.

Cryptopedia went bust however recent e-mail had some obstruction instruction to do a claim and some web url that does not work. Contacting their cust. service replied with half-baked answers. Then disclaimer says if you dont claim within blah blah blah date, you forfeit your fund.

Xwallet also sent me a refusal to unlock after went through all of their password restoration verification process.

This is getting unwieldy.

Thanks all for help, i am using gtx1080 which should all have 8GB RAMs.  I wil restart all of them to see how it goes.
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / did POW etherium mining stopped yet? on: January 05, 2021, 06:20:24 AM
i was using several rigs to mine etherium for last few years but suddenly all stopped. I havent checked back yet but just wanted to check here since POS is started, did POW stopped yet? If so, I dont wanna waste time troubleshooting. If not stopped (pow), when it is going to be stopped?
45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / eth staking started? When will gpu mining will end if ever? on: December 06, 2020, 10:28:00 AM

46  Economy / Currency exchange / option trading using bitcoin on: November 17, 2020, 01:39:12 AM
I do a lot of stock option trading and few years back used deribit for bitcoin option trading. Although it is not most convenient, it was possible to make a trade on deribit using option features as a hedge. Now, few years later, I tried to do the same but they no longer allows US resident.

Any other trading platform for options? Be reminded it is not actually buying selling bitcoin, it is rather derivative called option contract.

THanks.,
47  Economy / Exchanges / what is the lowest fee platform for buying selling bitcoin at this time? on: November 14, 2020, 06:10:55 AM
Dont talk me into coinbase,. I had horrible experience and heard and keep hearing from other about coinbase's terrible experience. It does not matter how popular they are or whether they charge less or nothing for fee.

I have been using gemini for while as it has been quite convenient. There has been lot of frustrating issues lately however I will focus on the fee.
I think last time I bought and sold bitcoin, they charged me 30$ fee!!! Actual blockchain mining fee was less then few cents. Haha. way to make money huh?

Any better platform?
I hate paypal so probably not  going to use.
I am looking into Square's CashApp.

Anything better let me know.
My priority:
- easy and convenience of use, bug-free feature
- reasonable fee
48  Economy / Economics / What is causing last few days' run-up? on: November 06, 2020, 06:56:26 AM
Current price 15726$, phenomenal, but I am wondering what is causing this run-up?
paypal? That is too distance past. Today is 11/5/2020.
Any intel on this?
49  Economy / Scam Accusations / my 1st real purchase on openbazaar was scammer and his identity is here on: September 04, 2020, 08:24:40 AM
openbazaar identity:
ob://QmccxfFg2y4ZgATMqqnAR32n93UoNyrHMuuerjD2ev9TUr/store
he seem to have website:
https//www.buyandnow.com
Address was somewhere near san francisco daly city area.

Before I make a large purchase costing hundreds, I decided small item like 20+$ headphone from this guy to see how smoothly the transaction goes and how reliably disputes are resolved.
Oh boy, I think openbazaar has long way to go in this respect.

Received the headphone, it is different than pictured and it is broken. I opened dispute but yet to hear from moderator after several weeks.
I immediately send message to this seller but he responds with taking pic and send it to him?
Hah!!! For 20$ I have to bother with taking and sending pic so that he believes in me !! Unless I do that he will not honor or believe my words!!
Just be aware of this scammers on the openbazaar. It is nice platform but not as robust feedback and dispute resolution mechanism as other platform like ebay and amazon and scammers like this will take advantage of you!

thanks I tried to migrate the wallet from coinomi into exodus but problem is coinomu used 18 words vs. 12 for exodus. Made things harder.

52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Coinomi wallet: accidentally sent ETH to ETC address. on: August 31, 2020, 08:33:06 PM
I just wanted from one of my coinomi wallet to another the ETH to ETC address. Stupid me!!!  Huh
I tried to recover using this advice on reddit but it still did not work.
I did not create the ETH wallet using BIP32 phrase same as destination ETC.

Any other advice?

https://www.reddit.com/r/COINOMI/comments/8esy22/sent_eth_to_etc_address/

The thread is closed on Reddit so I can not put anything.

If I were using exodus, there seems sweep feature available however I am not sure if it is possibel to transfer coinomi wallet to exodus using its 12-word phrase. I am going to try that now.

53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: is ethermine.org mining servers functional? Anyone mining as of now (8/7/2020)? on: August 08, 2020, 03:42:58 PM
You must be a newbie right? if one address is not working then try other ethermine addresses, you could also try ssl addresses too, to help you out, I tried us1 and it is working. Once us2 is back again then you move to that one.

u got your advice wrong buddy. I aint newbie. The fix was not what you said.

55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: altcoin mining using powerwall from tesla, worth it? on: July 30, 2020, 06:10:31 AM
Solar power and mining are not a good match. Mining is a 24/7 operation but solar power
is only available less than half the time. Using batteries just increases cost.

if you use source from solar during day and use stored energy during night, i am contemplating there might be considerable saving in energy fee. Obviously it can not be solar alone. It has been solar integrated with utility grid so that when solar energy runs out utility power is used.

56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: altcoin mining using powerwall from tesla, worth it? on: July 29, 2020, 07:38:25 PM
Has anyone done it or is there a better, cheaper alternative?

https://electrek.co/2016/10/28/tesla-powerwall-2-game-changer-in-home-energy-storage-14-kwh-inverter-5500/#:~:text=Operating%20Temperature%20Range%3A%20–20°,%3A%20122%20kg%20(269%20lbs)

I chose powerwall 2 since tesla is popular however pricing adn spec were hard to find with tesla and other vendor's storage product.

in a fictional scenario with 1 miner + 5 1080 gtx each running at 120W (180W max) the total power consumed is 600W + ~100W (for board and cpu).
total of 700W. In one day, it can consume 16800W or 16.8KWh of energy.

The max unit storage of Powerwall 2 is 14Kwh. It appears one full powerwall can barely power 1 miner with 5 1080gtx. Obviously it does not take into account that solar panel during day will or could or partially supply power directly to miner, reducing 24 hrs.

I think your confusing K/w hours. The total powerwall can handle is 14Kw (total) single GTX1080 rig your talking about only uses 600w, that means you can multiple of those rigs. 600w isnt in one hour, that's overall.

14,000w/600w = 23~ theoretical rigs.

NO, 14kh = 14000wh is 600w * 24h. Remember what is 1WATT is following def:

The watt-hour (Wh) is a unit of energy equivalent to a single watt (1 Watt) of electricity expended for duration of one hour (1 hour).

You are also confusing watt/kilowatt (w/kw) with watthour (Wh/kWh) Look carefully.
So with that your equation can be re-interpreted as

14000khw/600w = 23h (meaning power wall can operate 1 rig for 23 hours or can operate 23 rigs for 1 hour) but i doubt later is possible because overcurrent limit implied by following in the spec:

Power: 5 kW continuous, 7 kW peak
Assuming 600w per rig, it should not safely run more than ~10 rigs at a time: 5kW / 600w = 5000/600 = ~9 OR ~10

For me, paradise is settle in a coastal ranch house ~1200sq. ft with powerwall with 4-5 miners each having may be 1080gtx.
I havent done detailed calculation but powerwall claims single unit can satisfy all your household needs although it does not quite justify mining power obviously. Has anyone done that?
59  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: LIGHTNING NETWORK - what is happening, dead, stagnant? on: May 05, 2020, 06:59:01 AM
I looked at statistics, the usage went up around last half 2019 then tapered off. looks like not that terrribly popular although not died.
IT seems stagnated. Are there benefits starting to weigh in?
I wonder if major wallets are supporting or starting to support LN?

LN is definitely not stagnant or dying, but it's definitely not growing rapidly.BTC transactions on the chain are fast enough,so there's no need to such offchain solutions like LN right now.I don't see any major benefits of using the Lightning Network right now.Maybe when the Bitcoin Core blockchain gets stuck again and the overall transaction fees and confirmation time increases, many BTC users might start using LN for a while.
However,I don't believe that the die hard Bitcoin Core fans will ever adopt LN.

i would consider myself diehard bitcoin core fan due to extensive studies I made in the past, but I am for LN, if not for LN, how are you going to solve the 7 transaction / second problem?
60  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: LIGHTNING NETWORK - what is happening, dead, stagnant? on: May 05, 2020, 04:39:33 AM
Most people yet don't know what Lightning Network is till now. Couple of days ago, I had started a discussion topic on one of our local facebook group on Lightning Network. Almost 90% of the people seems to be never heard about Lightning Network while some other who have heard about Lightning Network but don't have any idea what it is. Without implementation in common wallets like Electrum, LN will not be known to the public. Once Electrum implement it, things will be different.

Lightning is an L2 network that exposes node operators to regulatory oversight and robs Tx fees from Bitcoin miners.

L2  is a key word if one can not memorize or trouble understanding the LN. Robbing tx fees is something I am hearing first time. Any source on technical background on this?
