1  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If you see gambling as investment, you will keep losing. on: June 06, 2026, 01:20:04 PM
This topic is also part of how you can control your gambling losses.

So the idea is this, investment is what you do with precision, not relying on luck  And sometimes, in some investment you don't lose everything. Like you can insure your investment and when it fails, you get the insurance company to come in, depending on the insurance product you signed for. Apart from insurance policy in your investment, some investment generally may still give you room to regain part of your investment and avoid total collapse.

But if you treat gambling as investment, you will see yourself chasing back what you are losing because at every gambling game, either you have a loss or you win but the number of losing outweighs your winning chance as the house edge and luck will likely go against you.

Therefore, it is better to limit your stop time or amount and resolve to treat gambling as entertainment, not investment.

How do you handle your gambling? You see it as investment or entertainment?
I would change the term "investment" to "a way to earn money." Investing is about systematically adding to an account at a certain interest rate. I would also categorically not consider gambling as a way to earn money on a regular basis  the principle itself is based solely on luck, so any planning and forecasting are inappropriate. It's possible to have fun and enjoy the excitement.
2  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why can't most gamblers maintain profits in the long term? on: June 06, 2026, 10:44:12 AM
Most gamblers come to gambling platforms usually to make a profit or to earn a lot of money and sometimes they win big money but with the change of time their interest in gambling increases and they gamble more and more. As a result of gambling, gamblers' money is continuously lost and they lose more money than they had won at one time. Basically, in the case of gamblers, this is due to excessive desire and uncontrolled gambling.

I think that gamblers lose money in this way because of their sometimes emotional decisions. Gamblers may think gambling is easy, but real gamblers think a lot before making a decision to gamble, but those who do not think so much about gambling usually make these mistakes and continue to lose money. Another factor that contributes to gamblers not maintaining long-term profits is gamblers not understanding their own limits. Since they have won big money before, gamblers tend to think that the more they gamble and the more money they use, the more likely they are to win more money, but in reality, the opposite is true.

I have also seen in my real experience many gamblers who suddenly won big money from gambling platforms, initially they used that money to fulfill their common hobbies but with the change of time when they gambled more aggressively, they sold the things of the hobby that they fulfilled at that time and gambled later and it happened that they could not hold on to their money and got into more debt.
What is your opinion on this, what other reasons can there be for gamblers not to hold on to their money in the long term.
Basic math dictates that, in the long run, the casino will profit against the player. Bookmakers, however, have a better chance of winning. A simple example: a player bets $100 and wins $10, and so on several times, but the next time, they lose $100, leaving only $10. For a while, they were profitable, but the deposit was lost. If you change tactics and play only with the funds earned from your initial deposit, your chances are still there, but ultimately, you'll lose the entire deposit unless you hit the jackpot.
3  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Local sportsbook is not profitable anymore; what's the condition in your area? on: June 06, 2026, 09:54:54 AM
Returning from work yesterday, I felt like doing some fun activity before I got to my house. And then, I remember what if I visited a local sportsbook shop as I did in the past. On reaching there, the space was scanty. There was one other man in the shop. It took around 6 hours before another person walked into the shop. This triggered me to start a conversation with one of the workers. And she said, " This business is not profitable compared to how it was before. That people barely come to play here since almost everyone has a smartphone. She went on to say that, at times, people come here to beg for the shop's free internet to access their sportsbook on their phone, and they find it so annoying.

This is the condition in my area. I would want to know how it feels over there.
And the employee is absolutely right now everyone has a smartphone and everything is on it.Not far from my house there is also a bookmaker's office with old computers; it looks like time has stood still there.Their doors are always open, and when I walk by, I always peek in, and it's almost always empty. Several times I saw elderly people, but most likely they were there simply because they were bored in retirement.
4  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is there any remarkable thing you have done with your gambling winning? on: June 05, 2026, 10:54:55 PM

Question is that have you found yourself in such scenario before?
And if you do what can you truly boost with your life on what you had ever achieved from gambling?
Yes, I managed to make money in the national football league a few times, and I went on a week-long vacation fully paid for with my winnings. This championship took several months, so it wasn't a one-time deal, so I didn't manage to earn everything in one day or over a short period. But in the end, it was a pleasant feeling that the vacation was fully paid for without my salary.
5  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: why some players still fear kyc? on: June 05, 2026, 02:45:23 PM
But I think most gamblers prefer to choose a non-KYC gambling platform, because no one wants their personal documents to be misused, so most gamblers prefer to gamble anonymously. How can you believe that your personal data will be safe with them if it is a trusted casino platform? It has been heard in the past that many big platforms and customers have sold their data to make millions of dollars. I don't trust any reputable gambling site that will not leak my data. So I prefer a non-KYC casino platform, but I am gambling reputed casino platform where KYC is not required.
Players simply don't want to go through unnecessary verification on an entertainment site. Most of us play with very small amounts of money, and additional checks are simply unnecessary. I understand that online gambling is prohibited in some countries, and the site may thus filter out those who fall into this category, but there are also sites where identity verification is optional, and many will choose them.
6  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What are the major thing that attracts you more to gamble? on: June 05, 2026, 01:55:32 PM
It's adrenaline I suppose, sort of like jumping off an airplane, or doing anything that is remotely dangerous, it just makes you feel alive. Normal life is so boring, you wake up, you work, you eat, you watch netflix, you sleep. That's all I have in my life, and that is even if I have time to relax to watch something.

I agree, the feeling of a quick adrenaline rush is what's so appealing. It's hard to find it in the daily grind work, home, and so on. In my case, I love sports betting, and when I place a bet and watch the match, it becomes much more exciting. Of course, the stakes aren't the kind of money you'd worry about if you lose, but when the adrenaline kicks in and you realize you've hit the mark, you want to repeat the bet.
7  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling is a waste of money, a woman said but life proved her wrong on: June 05, 2026, 11:57:29 AM
Perhaps the Universe is trying to proved her wrong. And perhaps given her that luck for that life changing windfall. Regardless of the circumstances though, we all know the risk involved when we gamble.

And yeah, most of the time like in a lottery that our chances are very small to win, it might be just a waste of money as we can't win in our life time and there are many games that could make us some decent money that is not as big as winning the lottery.
The most interesting thing is that luck turned out to be on her side, even though she was extremely skeptical. But those who buy tickets hoping to hit the jackpot end up with nothing. I understand that she was trying to convey that it's easier to mind your own business and not expect one lottery ticket to make you wealthy for life (for most people), while only 1 will win the jackpot.
8  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The weird situation of people in debt that still gamble on: June 05, 2026, 11:12:10 AM
The logic is certainly impressive. Hoping that slot machines will help him pay off his debts is like opening a window and simply throwing away money. Instead of refinancing the loan at another bank with more flexible terms-and I'm sure there are some out there no one's been looking for them.Sometimes the stupidity of some people is impressive. It's not hard to guess that this person will be in debt, but even more so if they continue in the same spirit.
9  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What % of your signature income gets burned on gambling? on: June 04, 2026, 05:30:56 PM
From 0 to 20, and that's roughly it. I direct the proceeds to a separate account, which I can use as I please, and from there I can use it for gambling so I don't have to balance it with other budgets. There are periods when I don't gamble at all due to work pressure, or I just don't want to because I'm exhausted. But yes, the main gaming budget comes from signatures.
10  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why are you delusional, lol on: June 04, 2026, 04:32:56 PM
People who would place to such a risky bet would do it just because of club loyalty. A lot of arsenal fans placed a bet on arsenal to win knowing that the game would be difficult because psg has more advantage but they did it based on the hope they have and when it comes to sports betting it's better to be realistic than begin hopeful.
No matter how much I don't like my club, if it plays against a stronger club, I'll bet on it because my club's chances are significantly lower; it's just a matter of dry calculation and no emotions.I'm already past the stage when I hoped and believed that a miracle was possible because for the sake of the fans, my favorite club would give 100% and take the victory, but no, the reality is completely different.
11  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Woman who asked for life time ban removed from casino after winning jackpot on: June 04, 2026, 02:28:18 PM
Why did they allow the woman to gamble in the first place since she's on self exclusion. It was after she won the jackpot that they checked that she was on self exclusion which is unfair. Did the casino gave her back the money she used in gambling before hitting the jackpot. I believe, this is not the first time she has gambled since she got self excluded. Did the casino check her gambling records to pay her back all she lost. Hell No! The law is one sided.
Most likely because entry is free and anyone can enter without an ID check. Essentially, she violated her own ban, and her winnings don't count, as she's prohibited from all gambling. It'll be interesting to see what the court will say, as the situation is truly interesting. After all, if she had lost a large sum to the casino, there would have been no case before.
12  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gov approved casinos are much worse than I thought on: June 04, 2026, 10:06:14 AM
Are you sure it's the fault of the government or just a scam in place here? First they gave you a bonus for just signing up, juicy bait. Then they asked you to deposit. Once you deposited and made money, and asked for a withdrawal, things changed. Then they asked for KYC. After KYC, they refused to let you withdraw your money.

That is a scam system at play there. If you had filed a lawsuit and the government didn't respond, then you can accuse the government.
Funny enough, if the casino claimed the account was compromised, why didn't they flag it earlier? You sent your picture and they still denied your withdrawal. You've been scammed.
The point is that the government actually allowed this site to operate. Instead of being competitive and offering more advantages to players, they're creating a negative reputation for themselves. Furthermore, they understand perfectly well that a player is unlikely to sue them, as a good lawyer who can properly draft a case would cost more than the deposit made to the site. The most a grok can do is not recommend this service.
13  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you usually think about the lose before using that particular amount to bet? on: June 04, 2026, 09:26:40 AM
However, if you think about the loses that is involved in gambling would you still use the higher amounts to gamble or you would reduce your bet to make sure you still remains online gambling? Of course, we know that anyone gambling should keep using either 1-5 percent of their monthly/weekly income?
Of course, I always take into account that I can lose the amount I bet and prepare myself for this. Secondly, I only bet what I am prepared to lose, and these are really small amounts that do not affect my monthly budget in any way.I came to the conclusion that I spend more on coffee per month than on bets or gambling, so it’s possible to roughly compare that, with the right approach, entertainment does not affect the budget.
14  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A bettor loses $55k on "Guaranteed" Bet on Jannik Sinner in the French Open on: June 03, 2026, 02:48:04 PM
Guaranteed? from that reading it only shows how confident this bettor is. That won't give an easy pass to win because even in the lowest odd, there's no guarantee with that because the risk remains with that. There are still a lot of bettors that would definitely bet on low odds as 1.01 even with a million dollars but that's not a safe and guarantee bet. We all know about that and if someone who's too attracted to bet on these odds need to think a lot first.
There's always a risk; the game can always go wrong, even when it seems like victory is inevitable. Betting $1 million on odds of 1.01 is foolish, to say the least, since the risk won't justify the investment; the profit will be minimal and clearly not worth it. I doubt people with that kind of capital would take such risks if they had enough experience to earn it and enough experience not to lose it instantly.
15  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does picking big teams guarantee frequent win? on: June 03, 2026, 02:01:35 PM

So, does picking top teams guarantee frequent wins? What are your opinions on this?
Of course, this doesn't guarantee a 100% profit, but in such matches, it's easier to bet, especially if the opponent is much weaker. This is one of the traps for beginners: they think that if a club is a favorite, it will definitely win. But a team can field a secondary lineup and, for example, end up drawing or losing the match, since it doesn't affect the subsequent outcome of the championship. And bookmakers can create the illusion of a 100% victory.
16  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: why some players still fear kyc? on: June 03, 2026, 12:22:20 PM
Why aren't we seeing bad news online about stolen KYC information?
But it's still possible  that it may happen because  your KYC contain  some important  informations that's why some people  are not comfortable  with the casinos that requires  KYC registration and of course  you can't blame  them  for such fear, you may think it's unlikely  until  it's you that is being  involved. But this is the case if one isn't comfortable  with the idea of KYC then you may be limited  to just few casino  that don't bother  to know their  costumers and you'll just be fine as well. It's not a problem  once you feel something  is unsafe for you then you have option  as there is no compulsion.
And this is completely understandable. If a player plays with small amounts for fun, why should they need to undergo verification? Even tax authorities don't care. If a player plays with large amounts and wants their account verified, this could help improve the account's security. This is an advantage over a completely anonymous gaming account.
17  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Transition from gambling for Fun into gambling for income. on: June 03, 2026, 09:51:48 AM

Now I have a question I will like us to discuss about too, At what point do you think gambling stops being entertainment and starts becoming financial dependence?
Greed will still be the driver. The loss of a large capital will eat away at the player's soul, and since they easily lost everything, there's a chance to make a quick profit or at least recoup their losses. For example, a player earns $50 a day at work, but here they can win $50 in a few minutes. The quick emotions and quick earnings are what create addiction.
18  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How clean are the big leagues really? on: June 03, 2026, 09:18:17 AM
in an industry where so much money is at stake, i think it’s impossible that nothing is being done to make even more money off consumers, viewers, and bettors. i believe this because, in the world of soccer and the major leagues, i think it would be very difficult for this system to survive without some shady dealings going on behind the scenes.

no matter how certain you are you can’t prove whether fixed matches exist or not. because soccer is a sport full of uncertainty and surprises. these can’t be explained simply by the favorite team losing or matches appearing to be fixed. there’s so much randomness that even if there were fixed matches, it would be impossible to predict them and generate a steady income from it.
I also believe that manipulation is highly unlikely in the major leagues and top clubs. It's just that if you think about it, they have good salary contracts, profit from advertising integrations, etc, why ruin all that for the sake of a highly questionable deal? Yes, such manipulation is possible in lesser known clubs; there's room for bookmakers and match-fixing there, since they receive far less attention.

20  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is This Blind Betting? on: May 20, 2026, 02:58:55 PM
Yes, that happened. I've been burned several times at national football matches. When it seemed like they were the favorites, and there was no doubt about it, the result was completely the opposite. It's easy to fall into this trap during qualifying rounds in national leagues, so I often skip them and wait until the standings are updated, when it's clearer who the next matches will be against, and it'll be easier to track their progress.
