822  Other / Politics & Society / Facebook's free internet service has been shut down in Egypt on: December 30, 2015, 11:21:25 PM
Egypt has now become the second country to shut down Facebook's controversial free internet service after India did the same last week, according to a report from the Associated Press today. The service, called Free Basics, is part of Facebook's Internet.org initiative that aims to bring internet access to developing nations. Because Free Basics provides access to Facebook and a number of non-Facebook websites at no cost, some regulators and internet activists believe it violates the principles of net neutrality by creating a "walled garden" that prioritizes some sites over others.

Facebook's partner in Egypt, telecom carrier Etisalat Egypt, began providing Free Basics service two months ago, and Facebook says more than 3 million people in Egypt have signed up. Of those 3 million, Facebook says 1 million received access to the internet for the very first time. "We're disappointed that Free Basics will no longer be available in Egypt," Facebook said in a statement provided to the Associated Press. The company hopes to "resolve this situation soon." It's unclear if a telecom regulatory agency shut down the service, as was the case in India. Etisalat Egypt could not be reached for comment at this time.

824  Other / Off-topic / Re: 2016, The Year of Bitcoin? on: December 30, 2015, 11:07:16 PM
Honestly i think we are in for a treat this year.

The price has gained a lot of support. While we were at 220 USD in the beginning of this year, there is some strong support at 420 USD now.
I got scared when the price went back up to $400+ and I sold.  I was expecting it to jump back down and I could buy back at a profit, but I was wrong!!  I do not have much to spend when it comes to investing with Bitcoin, but I save when i can.  After watching it for a bit, I now think it will get higher as the new year comes in.

Do not blame yourself for selling because price movement is uncontrollable. So just forget about it or you will be upset.
I sold two months ago for 290$ and after a week the price reached 500. Cheesy so it happens a lot

I do not think that he active on the forum with other account. If he wants to follow btc news and debates he does not have to create an account.
But it does not matter if he is. Nothing will change, no debate will be end. As what he writes no one will give it a big concern

5 Bitcoin and Blockchain Startups to Watch in 2016

Nearing the end of 2015, many are questioning the future of bitcoin. 2016, it's safe to say, will be a crucial 12-month period.

For one, the technology's open-source community will need to resolve some outstanding questions, most notably whether it will increase the size of blocks on the blockchain. Meanwhile it must combat the effects of "private blockchains" seeking to court market share.

Ultimately, I am a firm believer in the future of bitcoin. While its progress throughout 2015 may not have captured the media’s attention as it did in 2013, the industry has created a solid foundation for the continued success and growth of the bitcoin network.

With the variety of applications now being built, it is difficult to imagine it simply fading away anytime soon. I truly believe we are only a few years away from bitcoin crossing ‘the chasm’ and becoming a ubiquitously acknowledged technology.

827  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-12-30] Will 2016 be A Banner Year for Bitcoin? on: December 30, 2015, 08:01:56 PM
Will 2016 be A Banner Year for Bitcoin?

I have said it many times, but when it comes to financial markets, long term predictions are hard, and in many cases pointless. Markets are forward discounting mechanisms and as such they price in any foreseeable influences. It is therefore the unforeseen, the proverbial bolt out of the blue, that usually ends up being the biggest influence over any given time period. The fact remains though that the New Year is a time for reflection and contemplation of the possibilities ahead, and when it comes to bitcoin the possibilities for 2016 are so intriguing that they are worth pondering.

From a price perspective it is hard not to be bullish on BTC/USD. At this time last year I stuck my neck out and predicted a period of relative stability for the bitcoin exchange rate, albeit in a lower range than the $300-400 levels at the time, followed by significant appreciation in the second half of the year. Though I say so myself, that wasn’t too far off the mark.

I don't see that website mentioned on Blockchain's website. How can one confirm that this isn't a phishing website?

How it can be a phishing website !
It is the real blockchain.info domain and it has https protection.
And they warn users from using big funds because it is still tested

Edit : the site is mentioned in their blog :

Four Reasons Why You Should Invest Your Christmas Bonus in Bitcoin

This is the time of year when many people receive year-end holiday bonuses from their employers. Your bonus can be used for many things: paying off loans, buying yourself something fun, giving to charity, fixing the house, or going on a trip. If you are feeling particularly responsible, you could invest that bonus. But what to invest in? The mainstream financial advisors will recommend the same as always: stocks and bonds. Advisors attracted to precious metals might recommend gold or silver in order to protect your investment from the central bank-controlled economy. Here’s another idea: invest your year-end bonus in Bitcoin. Why? Here are four reasons.

Coinbase Tests Bitcoin XT, Gets Removed From Bitcoin.org

According to CEO Brian Armstrong, Coinbase is now running the new version of Bitcoin software, Bitcoin-XT, a move which has divided the Bitcoin community in the past few days. The company is merely experimenting with the software, it stresses; however, this has inspired much contentiousness on online Bitcoin forums, including being removed from Bitcoin.org.

From Worst to First: Bitcoin's Price Ends 2015 on Top

After a year filled with its share of doom and gloom, the verdict is in: Bitcoin won 2015.

As trumpeted by headlines in CNBC and Bloomberg, bitcoin was the best-performing currency of the year, netting near-40% gains, more than double its nearest competition, the Somali Shilling and Gambian Dalasi. The development contrasts with bitcoin's performance from 2014, in which it lost 56% of its value, the most among global currencies.

833  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Givemecoins - 250-1000 - Claim once every 60 minutes on: December 29, 2015, 07:17:25 PM
You guys drain it so quick, I'm actually surprised, i might have to either lower the amount or increase the time :|

Edit -

Turns out i had a huge increase of traffic from Russia and Ukraine, i looked where it was coming from and it was coming from a rotator, but google adsense isn't paying very much from hits from those places, I might have to block those countries from my Cpanel!!!

I do not agree with you in blocking the traffic from these countries. because you are the one will lose.
If you are waiting for traffic from USA or from the first world countries then you are dreaming, because those visitors will not pat attention to your faucet at all.
834  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 29, 2015, 07:11:17 PM
i wonder what happen when price goes to the moon (next year), will it goes to certain price says 2000, then everyone sell and price goes ballistic to 900 or even 500 again Huh

Ideally if we go to the moon & achieve mainstream adoption then bitcoin will be accepted in most places & we won't have to sell anything.

If the price goes to 2000 soon though & doesn't seem to be going up from there we'e have a decision to make.

My advice to anybody who HODL's though is never sell 100% of your coins. Imagine how shit it'd be if you sold @ say 2000 & then 2-3 years later the price shot to 100k. Always save something in cold storage even if it's 1 bitcoin.

No regrets etc.

i agree, maybe on the safe side, just sell to cover your initial investment. so its all free coin...

If i have some extra money, i would safe my bitcoin without selling as you suggests.
but in some points I sell my btc because I am in need for cash for my daily live.
investing in btc does not work for all people

Bitcoin Bounces Back After Holiday Slump

While some industry projections peg that 2016 will be a better year for bitcoin, the digital currency sure stuck to its volatile reputation last week when it took a hard hit just after Christmas.

Following the holiday, bitcoin’s price took a dive of roughly 10 percent, according to price trackers, which showed that it dipped as low as $411.16 on Dec. 26. That’s a far dip from its December peak of $466.63 on Dec. 12. For the most part, bitcoin had been rising throughout December, giving hope that January would start out strong.

While yesterday’s price was only $421 in the early evening, the trends show that bitcoin could be on the mend after its most recent price slump. Some bitcoin industry data, such as tracking provided by bitcoinity, daily transactions dropped recently as much as 14 percent.

But dipping during the holidays isn’t anything new for bitcoin, as it followed the same trends in 2013 and 2014. This has typically been attributed to a dip in transaction volume and less bitcoins being traded.

Per usual for bitcoin, in just a few days following Christmas, it was able to spike back to more normal levels for the more recent price trends. Transaction volumes are on the rise, according to reports, and bitcoin exchanges have reported their trading volumes are going back up.

Decred: An Innovative Cryptocurrency or A Well Arranged Scam?

An alliance of developers have already begun work on a new cryptocurrency, Decred. The new currency is based upon the same Bitcoin model that was previously used with all other cryptocurrencies. However, Decred is saving the main technical features of Bitcoin and fixing all of the issues that Bitcoin had.

While the only clear contributors to the project are community-based such as are Github users, it can be assumed that the developers have a large amount of experience with Bitcoin development, and may even be the original Bitcoin Core developers.

Decred will serve as a hybridized proof-of-work/proof-of-stake consensus system that allows users to create a balance between proof-of-work miners and proof-of-stake users to develop a much more robust consensus.

I recommend you to use blockchain android wallet with exporting your private keys so if their services are down you still have access to your coins. That's exactly what I did.
I used mycelium before and it is good but changing the address with every transaction is quite frustrating.
