Uuu... I think it's very hard question because you want to compare very high coin to very low. If you buy ripple then ripple need go up to 2$ and you will already have double money profit and ltc will need to raise like 200$ high. I think better is xrp to buy just right now since it's cheap. ltc is too high now.

I don't understand why you want coins under a dollar. Why is that an important attribute when looking for coins... and not that it matters, but especially if you have $5000 to spend.

Well everyone had there chance to "prove there stake" in the few hundred year old stock marked. anonymity isn't the only feature of cryptocurrency.
There's also immutability, transparency (of execution), and smart contract incorporation etc. The good bits will outlast the bad bits, that's for sure.
