42  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Bitlox wallet review on: July 04, 2016, 12:49:46 PM
BitLox Hardware Wallet Review

Short Summary
The Bitlox wallet is a nice small credit card sized wallet. It has a nice smooth and flat feel to it, with each number key slightly raised with the center raised the highest. It reminds me very much of the case wallet in that sense, but that is where the similarities end. The wallet has almost double the screen space compared to the case wallet, which you will surely use.The wallet includes 2 USB cables, one short one and one long one. The cables have BitLox branding on them and are also flat compared to the regularly rounded cables and gives the wallet that premium feel. I was only given the wallet for this review, but decided to pay extra in order to get the Bitlox USB vault. The Vault it self is simply a pin protected USB with tails on it. The cap has the Bitlox branding on it as well, but sadly it does not seem to come preloaded with any Bitlox software, which I am not sure if this is good or bad as I know the image is clean and can only install what I want on it.

If I had to pick the best feature of the Bitlox wallet, it would be the E-INK display. What is so great about it you can bring up the wallet/deposit QR code and then turn off the device. Now I basically have a re-usable wallet that pulls no power. The only complaint I have about this is that it is not possible to generate a new QR code/address for each deposit, sort of a quick hand way to hold down a key or two and have it just instantly generate a new address and then turn off again.

My biggest complaint would be the power switch; The switch is quite small and found it a pain to turn on and off, but this will definitely not turn on by its self in your pocket like a smart phone. While it may be clear to most bitcointalk users that 0 means off and 1 means on, some may not understand this.

All in all if you want a secure wallet with many advanced features this wallet beats the rest. It has some of the most security features. While it does lack in speed and general bells and whistles it works great as a hardware wallet.

Pros and Cons List:

PRO
CON
Hardware closed source
E-Ink Display
Can be slow to react
Full number pad
No existing brand/trust
Advanced Features

Image Walkthrough

The first step when turning the device on is setting it up. This means selecting your language

Next you get to select how complex(secure) of a setup you want

Chosing expert allows you to have a lot of extra settings such as setting up the AEM

Finally we have the formatting of the device after setting it up

Below you can see the desktop wallet software.  Its quite simple and easy to use. I really like that is utilizes a dark theme unlike many other wallets.

I also love the E-Ink Display. Below is a picture of the screen after turning it off on the wallet/qr code screen. It has been sitting like this for nearly a month now

Everything works smoothly, at least for me.

It always works fine until it no longer does. Get your coins out of Yobit before its too late.

Would highly advise against using this site. I understand maintenance is needed for all coins, but maintenance for over 24 hours is crazy.

Hi, who can tell me more about this site, i am willing to trade some bitcoins and i would like to know If this website is safe, thank you!

Just use one of the trusted escrows on this forum!
That is the best way to go to enable you to escrow Bitcoins, and can also help contribute tto the community.
Unless you can trace the owner of this new website, there is no point in using it as they will probably disappear with your Bitcoins.

What exactly differentiates a website disappearing over night and a user on a forum disappearing overnight? If anything I would think a website would be less likely to disappear over small amounts as there is an initial cost. You have to buy a domain, SSL certificate, hosting etc... compared to a user on a forum who can get signup for free.

I will take that argument, however will disupte it. It is harder for a forum member to disappear if they are legendary and are on DT and are trusted by the community. The reason → Their account is worth more than the transaction.
A website is not too expensive, I know I could purchase a year of website bandwidth for $0.5. Or go to somewhere like steadyturtle and get hosting for a month for $1.60, so the account of someone with more than 100 trust points is better than that simple site setup, however, you are already also a DT legendary member.

That is a good point, I am not sure I agree with you on your pricing on a website, though, I would say even if you go the cheapest possible route you are looking at 10$ or so plus an hour or so.

I agree having a website + legendary member does help, but I have seen many sites where someone simply uses a brand new account and yet people still deposit money into it. It has always amazed me.

It is good that we have a member centrally to that site that is well trusted on this forum.
There are some users that are more trusted, but being that picky is not good!
And yes, a hosting payment, design of site and good member of the forum is probably better than a newbie offering a scheme that will just disappear after its first deposit.

Agreed, I think the main advantage of a website is really that the process can be automated a great deal. I mean the majority of the escrow case do not a dispute so rather then waiting on an escrow agent to come online and release the funds, they can be released nearly instantly. This advantage matters a lot less for multi-signature, but for regular escrow which seems to be what most people surprisingly prefer, it has its advantages.

Hi,

We are quite trusted, and you can view my personal ratings here on bitcointalk or on bitcoin-otc.

If a well reputed legendary member  with a too good trust ratings is providing escrow service , then I believe it will be safe to use it.

Thanks, though I would also be careful, some users have bitcointalk accounts and simply sell them and then you can be scammed by a legendary user simply because he account was sold.
Do you escrow physical goods? If you do, how do you solve a dispute involving them?

Yes we do, while no dispute process is foolproof, we request proof from both the buyer and seller and based on the proof provide or lack of proof provided, make a final decision.

@starsoccer9 , Is your escrow is instant ? like any time i can use your service ? how can we know in depth who is controlling the escrow 24/7 ?

Can you clarify on what you mean by instant. Most escrow is not instant. By that I mean usually a good or service is being exchanged so some time is needed. If by instant you mean able to create an escrow 24/7 and deposit then yes. Anyone at any time can create an escrow and deposit. The only time it is not instant is when a dispute arises.

Oh ok So it means it's not totally instant , The buyer is able to deposit the money in the address instant but the seller needs to wait for you to come online and proceeds ?

No not at all, an escrow with no disputes can happen in theoretically in seconds. In reality due to bitcoin confirmations it will probably take closer to an hour. There is no need to wait for anyone. The only time you wait is when a dispute happens, otherwise an escrow transaction can happen instantly.

Sound Good I will try your site soon i hope nothing goes wrong . Is there any official discussion thread about your site ? Also i want to know how many peoples already trusted you .?

There a few scattered threads about the site, as well as a few people asking about the site. If you do a quick google search a lot of results will come up that should help prove some of the trust.

58  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is escrowmybits.com safe on: May 26, 2016, 08:18:52 PM
Hey guys,

I recently purchased a domain name transfer and I used escrowmybits.com.

I experienced some problems accessing the site initially. This did make me a little nervous I'd lose the seller's agreement to take bitcoin (I had to twist his arm a bit to agree to accept payment in bitcoin). But anyway, I can't say for sure what/who was to blame for the accessibility problem and the staff were generally attentive during the time they/I had access problems and tried to figure out what the problem was.

Apart from that, the actual escrow went very smoothly, so I would recommend 'escrowmybits.com' .

Also note that there is only a need for personal escrow involvement on the part of escrowmybits.com in the case of a dispute, as I understand. So most often, the dispute resolution, itself, isn't vouched-for, as in this case. But again.... if you write a clear, easy-to-interpret contract, you at least give yourself the best chance of avoiding a dispute and - if there is one - of resolving it amicably.

Hello,

Yes, we apologize about the downtime. We had some issues with our service and cloudflare which caused some users to be randomly blocked or simply never have the website load. All those issues are now resolved.

If you have any questions about using escrowmybits feel free to simply shoot me a PM.
