Unfortunately shops/banks and the like have the right to reject this sort of thing I think but the law might have changed since I last looked.

No, that link outlines what rights you have. They *have* to accept:

£5 (Crown) - for any amount

£2 - for any amount

£1 - for any amount

50p - for any amount not exceeding £10

25p (Crown) - for any amount not exceeding £10

20p - for any amount not exceeding £10

10p - for any amount not exceeding £5

5p - for any amount not exceeding £5

2p - for any amount not exceeding 20p

1p - for any amount not exceeding 20p

If you offer to settle a debt by the above divisions then a court of law would rule that you had offered a reasonable settlement. This law came about because people used to pay with small change for the lulz. An acquaintance of mine did it in the 1980s, he bought a brand new Range Rover with buckets full of £1 coins.
342  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: April 30, 2013, 09:19:25 AM
I just saw that zefir was posting something about "sample" chips that get sent by the factory in May before the final chips. First I heard about this.

He said that he would distribute them to buyers in proportion to their order qty. I don't think he knows yet what qty of samples may be due.

So if anyone interested in my board has large chip orders with him you may be able to get some sample qty. in May. If so, it would be very, very, very helpful to try and arrange for those samples to be sent on to me for early board testing so that I can debug and once we know the board works, we can order a large batch in time for final chip deliveries.

BTW I'm moving the power connector down to the end and turning it so that a right angle connector could be used. A little better for those who want to stack boards.

Maybe for the Group Buy from Ragin that deal also might hold... if so you can get mine if I would get any of those development chips.

I'll do the same if the opportunity arises.

Putting Hashking on your dartboard I can understand. But what's wrong with Maggie?   Cry

There was a coal mine and a steelworks in the town I grew up in until the early 1980s. Now there is no work and lots of heroin addicts.
344  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#2] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! United States of America! on: April 29, 2013, 09:19:50 PM
I would like the chips to go to somebody who is developing an open source board. Or failing that, shared equally. Ultimately I would respect ragingazn628's opinion, as he's taken the time to organise it though. Are you backing out over this issue, flyonwall?
345  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC-E Troll Box on: April 29, 2013, 09:05:35 PM
bettor: Anyone going to links posted here today should donate there coins to the Salvation Army first.

Win! Arize chickun.

I asked around. None of my contacts does.

Could you PM me what you are planning?

No need to PM, the portrait of Margaret Thatcher on my dartboard is getting old and I need to replace it with something.
347  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#2] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! United States of America! on: April 29, 2013, 08:02:51 PM
Also, what are we going to do with the few sample chips that Yifu sends about a week after the order date? I would like to get those all to myself, if nobody objects.

Why would you get those? especially ALL of them?
348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WTF - Kiddy Porn in the Blockchain for life? on: April 29, 2013, 07:40:36 PM
The blockchain doesn't store links or text it only stores address and stuff.  So unless they had bitcoin-qt used on an IP address of a illegal website I can't see how it can be in the blockchain.  Then all it means is an IP address has been saved.  IP addresses aren't created for any website in particular.

It can store any data.

Yeah in binary if you gonna send millions of 0.00000001 tx's.

No. Take a look at https://blockchain.info/tx/b34de232518e704370da916439bd3de35b3f9a6e3b1346a2adfdcb233b7bebbf. See the text message?

Could you clarify what we're looking at here?

This text message is NOT embedded in the actual block chain. It's just additional information provided by www.blockchain.info and stored in their internal database.

You mean the '(bitcoin foundation)' is that what we're looking at? Yes I assumed that was just blockchain.info adding a name to an address it knows, like it does with bitcoin-OTC verified users. I thought there was something else, and I was missing it.

This whole CP thing is a storm in a teacup, I mean someone could write a URL on a banknote for example, but you wouldn't reasonably be held culpable if you received it and had it in your pocket. Or someone could scratch something offensive on your car door and you wouldn't be to blame. Vandalism is down to the vandal, not the owner of the vandalised property.

It's looking like I may want my chips sent to BkkCoins in Thailand, would that be ok? Anyone else looking seriously at this option in this batch want to pool postage?
351  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#2] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! United States of America! on: April 29, 2013, 04:48:54 PM
Hi, just registering my contribution, I put in for 128 chips. I can't do SMT, but I know a local guy who does, or may ask one of the PCB developers for a package quote....

Added you to the list. Please send as soon as you can! Thanks!

I sent btc yesterday Smiley do you need the transaction id again?
352  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC OS Board - Preliminary on: April 29, 2013, 03:50:14 PM
I'm watching this thread Smiley Put me down for 8 boards please...

Edit: Donated too, at least I think I did, my Bitcoin-QT crashed while typing my passphrase and it's re-indexing now grrrrrrr.... Of course this donation is a contribution to your efforts, not an expectation of entitlement to free boards or anything.

How do you change your password? The link to change the password takes me to a reset feature

https://mining.bitcoin.cz/accounts/password/reset/

use that page to get a reset email sent to your registered email address.

wtf is my registered email?

The email you use to register in site and where you get site notifications

I don't get notifications and I registered 3 years ago...

Then you need to pm or email slush.

I was just pointing out the problem that even small delays in payments might have catastrophic results for users.

If said user is dumb enough to set a very high minimum payout....

I set mine to 0.5BTC. I see no reason to set it higher.

Of course if I was mining 10btc per day, I would scale that accordingly.

I have little sympathy for those using Slush to store their BTC.

Any noobs reading the above, don't forget if it's set to a too low value, say below 0.01, you may end up with a badly fragmented wallet and have to pay larger fees when you spend your coin.

I don't know whether to post this, sorry if it seems rude, but I feel I must say it as a potential customer...

Why can't you use your talents to develop something using the ASIC platform? I for one am waiting for the dust to settle and will be looking to buy into ASIC technology once there are units on warehouse shelves. I am not particularly interested in massive profits, just a little profit plus the satisfaction of mining for the resilience of the network. I am under the impression that the Avalon's custom ASIC chips are/will be available in bulk to people such as yourselves, and the developers specifically want this technology to be distributed.

The issue of electricity cost vs. mining revenue will be making new investment into FPGAs too risky for me, sorry Sad

My guess is May 20th.
That would be the very best birthday present. Cheesy

Me too, that is why I picked it.

Before someone says "what are the odds", I will answer, "higher than you think": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthday_problem
