501  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: centralized post of pirate payouts or other related news to the closing. on: August 27, 2012, 07:47:34 AM
Not that all Bitcoin users are libertarian, but many are, and even within the rest of the community a strong sense of individualism seems prominent. Given this, I'm very surprised at all those who want to go after his family to get results. What kind of justice is that? Do none of you have stupid relatives that do stupid things? Do you really think it is fair to get fucked for somebody else's scheming? The family does not equal the individual.

Quite. It's bad enough to see harm come to a brother, son, father or uncle due to his own stupidity.

503  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Fastest and cheapest method to withdraw GBP to UK from MtGox IBAN or SWIFT/BIC?? on: August 26, 2012, 01:25:54 AM
With Intersango UK bank account being closed I need a new GBP withdrawal method for funds to my UK bank account.  Using the MtGox withdrawal wizard it offers me to either enter my IBAN or SWIFT/BIC code.  I have both IBAN and BIC codes which method is the cheapest and fastest and how much does it cost.  HSBC tell me to use both IBAN and BIC codes together - http://www.business.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/international-business/iban-bic - but MtGox offers me the option to enter one or the other.  Also MtGox have a UK Barclay account why can't they process UK GBP withdrawals with that.  Thanks for any advice in advance.

I would imagine they are using IBAN as a way to avoid what's happening with Intersango? Could be wrong though.
504  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: #BTCST Updates. Latest: August 23th 10:48PM EST on: August 25, 2012, 01:40:11 PM
I would prefer if this didn't go off topic. Where are the updates?

The updates go into the first post in-thread, that way it doesn't matter how off-topic it goes Smiley

Well I don't know if I recieved the BTC yet, you see I didn't run my BitcoinQT client at all yesterday and I've been catching up with the blockchain now for ~1 hour. If that isn't a free advert for thin clients then I don't know what is lol.

Mac os 10.6.8

This happened on Electrum 1.0 when I first tried it last week, and on 1.01 which I just tried after reading this thread. IIRC the console msg for the 1.0 crash was the same, the gui_lite module not being present.
508  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How could Pirate fuck your brains so well that even now many believe in him? on: August 25, 2012, 12:32:08 PM
I don't have blow by blow archives from way back then; I only began keeping snapshots of historical data a while ago and only recently started making some quick and dirty scripts to put the data into HTML table form so I could look at it using a web browser. Its just a simple start, made actually for my own use so I can look at the numbers: http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/digitalisassets.html

Cheers.

It's not a hack, the site owner was just in #bitcoin-otc explaining how he's annoyed with a certain exchange.
511  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How could Pirate fuck your brains so well that even now many believe in him? on: August 25, 2012, 11:42:34 AM
The Brits and Canucks discovered this, much to their surprise, when they tried to manipulate prices to achieve GBP parity for the UKB (United Kingdom Britcoin) and CAD parity for the CDN (Canadian Digital Note). Selling off coins cheap just ends up with everyone else holding the coins you sold, and the price climbing way above your target price again whenever you stop throwing away your coins. NKL (bitNicKeLs) also tried it to some extent, partly perhaps due to pressure from the Brits and Canadians arguing that maybe it was the rising price of nitNicKeLs, combined with people's tendency to think a nickel should be a twentieth of a something (whether 1/20 CDN, 1/20 UKB, or even 1/20 BTC), that was spoiling their attempts at keeping UKB and CDN from rising too high. It just doesn't seem to work...

I don't have a board yet, but the reported rates and stability in the 2 CM threads are good enough for me  - well done and thanks in advance for when I get my board in September Smiley
515  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: enough of these insane pirate bets - MEMS list of fools bets on: August 23, 2012, 11:56:32 AM
I trust Matthew far more than betsofbitco.in.

Why ? betsofbitco.in has had 0 reports of payout issues and  they run some reasonable sized bets.
They have been operating for a long time, Id say they have definitely demonstrated they can be trusted to handle wagers.

What gives matthew more credibility that betsofbitcoin in your book ?
has he previously run bets without issue, involved in an online casino ?

betsofbitco.in is anonymous though, so you can't really verify which person really bet. Less drama, etc.

Quite. It's all about the drama, folks.

I'm not a rocket surgeon or anything, but doesn't Wednesday come after Tuesday?

Wednesday was cancelled due to lack of interest.
517  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Your opinion on MNW's motivation to bet 10,000 BTC (one post per forum member) on: August 23, 2012, 11:11:26 AM
I don't have a clue what he's up to! He is trying to make some kind of point for sure, otherwise why not just use betsofbitco.in? It's going to be a total mess.

Edit: Oh yeah and popcorn.

I, Cosmos, have made a contract with SaltySpitoon for the sale of one binder of Pokemon cards including 28 Foil cards for 14 BTC.  I will ship first with tracking info to Salty and agree to have BTC paid upon arrival.

Just to clarify here you are not talking about me, you shortened saltyspitoon's username Wink
520  Economy / Economics / Re: Bristol to launch their own currency in September on: August 21, 2012, 03:38:38 PM
I hate to spoil your joy over this, but this Bristol currency isn't really a currency. As far as I know, it's fixed to the british pound in 1:1, thus it is merely GBP in another form. The reason why they started this project is that once you exchange your money to the Bristol thing you usually spend it there. If you just had GBP you would likely spend it somewhere else. So it helps the local economy. From our point of view this turistic attraction is irrelevant.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I got my information from newspapers and it may be wrong.

Oh yeah you're spot on, but I think it's going to add legitimacy to alternative currencies in general.
