61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner Development on: January 27, 2014, 02:11:21 AM
1U cases usually have smaller fans, which are much noisier. 1U cases require special PSU rather than plain ATA PSU, don't they?
I think it would be better to use 2U or 3U case, to have quieter device, with standard PSU,
and with margins (more space), which would allow to enlarge size or number of modules if their hashing speed is worse than expected.

Using "margins on margins" worked well for KnCMiner. The others provided less margins and it was often the source of their problems.

Fiaz can you report on why the user kab is posting using your signature "Fiaz"?

Look to earlier posts. User kab didn't use "insert quote" button when citing Fiaz's text to show in red where Fiaz had made a common grammar error.
Kab wrote "Read again..." and copied this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=314402.msg4562197#msg4562197
The copied post contained "Fiaz". Simple.
It was quite obvious to people who read whole thread carefully, yet it was strange enough for the new ones. Smiley

Eligius address 1EN3EqqQfqq484WNATFAMA13VXpJuJNv5c shows All time total payout: 651.61300674 BTC, spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtH6ASvoAExHdF9IcFh3QmQ2dEt4Zk5qT3lRUDFDTVE&usp=drive_web&pli=1#gid=29 shows 791.57500405. Can you explain the difference of 140 BTC ? Is that the mistake you made and sent an email about ?

It's not "Eligius address", it's just an address set at Eligius to mine/send the BTC to it. Part of the BTC at this address could be mined elsewhere.
The Blockchain (https://blockchain.info/address/1EN3EqqQfqq484WNATFAMA13VXpJuJNv5c) shows us:

There is not much to guess:
- Restart Miner - should restart just the miner program,
- Reboot - should reboot the OS (Linux),
- Shutdown - should turn it all off.

Fiaz, it's a real pleasure to read your detailed explanations and to watch this development process.

What are the estimations of shipping speed? How long time do you expect to take between the first and the last shipments of this batch?
66  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 18, 2014, 12:08:33 PM
I think there were 170 unpaid orders which have been canceled when there were no money transfers coming for given time.
So there was no need for enlarging the batch size.

And thank you Bitcoinorama for the updates. They are detailed enough for me.

As you see, people would like to buy complete Jupiters rather than the upgrades. It's because every upgrade is sent expensively as separate parcel, one need to buy heatsinks and usually make a soldering job...

Guys, can't you cut the lengthy quotes?
If so, use "Reply" button, not the "Quote" one.

Don't panic, RetroGamer. Smiley
Sorry that I fail to be active here on the forum but we are heavily debugging this baby in our labs these last days (and nights).

We had discussed if the current chips were to be used for production of the devices for customers...
There is a hint:
Remember that these are from a pilot run of the IC packaging, our guys in China have done several further optimizations in the meantime like the glue and the wires used inside the IC, also we did tweak some parameters with the foundry for future wafers, so the chips are going to be definitely much better in production run (coming probably next week already) than these samples.

Hno, nice to see you here. (#kncminer is so volatile...)
The last pages of this thread turned to be old good technical discussion, which surely has attracted you. Smiley

The case with plenty of small holes proved at Butterfly Labs to be noisy and ineffective. People achieved great temperature and noise reduction after changing the original fan plates to standard ones made of thick wire:

Silent one (left) and noisy one (right):

If the X-1 is to be silent (like advertised), the case openings should be changed a bit.

Roy, look at the last photo - is it engineering sample? There are at least 138 chips (17 x 8 + 2) shown. Just 16 of them were sent for DIY leaders. Not all of the rest are needed for testing (and I think there are many more chips), so they are needed for the production.

Currently everyone at Bitmine is busy testing the chip (...).

Chip Testing
I visited Bitmine over the weekend for the initial chip bring-up. Test was performed on the first revision of the 8-chip boards that will be used in the rigs delivered to customers. We fought some very basic issues half night through - and finally we made the chips working. The cooling design is still worked on (and will be adapted to the findings during the tests), therefore we had to work without top heatsink. As a result, we could perform tests with reduced clocks so far, which is sufficient to validate the communication, chaining, and hashing. During the next days the cooling should be available and I will be able to explore the edges and post performance figures.

The conclusion? No need for panic. All looks very well.

Congratulations, Bitmine!

(BTW: 1.6 A at 12 V means over 3.8 A at 5V, so it would be quite hard to make an USB 2.0/3.0 miner without optimizations or undervolting/underclocking.)
73  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [HALTED] Bitmine CoinCraft 28nm chip distribution on: December 31, 2013, 12:55:00 AM
Congratulations, Zefir.

What were the hidden features, which you managed to reverse engineer?
74  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official BITMINE CoinCraft series 28nm ASIC miners thread on: December 31, 2013, 12:51:06 AM
If they have problems fullfilling my initial order, what makes me think they will have even 50% more than that ready only two weeks later?

Don't weep. The delay is not because of slow building the devices one after one. Bitmine is waiting for the whole bunch of the chips.
When the chips come (shall come this week), it will be possible to build all the miners plus what is needed for customer protection plan.

The cgminer screen is spoofed. The numbers are inconsistent.
WU fits to about 520 GH/s (maybe he use a KnC Jupiter). HW is too high.
Eligius user name is false. Funny thing: the font is proportional.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: December 27, 2013, 12:52:06 AM
You will need 240V and calculate at least 13A at 240V for each Neptune.  So UK houses/flats should be okay they'll just maybe need to use different circuits if they have a lot of Neptunes.  US homes usually have one 240V socket IIRC but I'm not sure what the amperage is for the socket.

No need to worry. Fubly is from Europe (look at the street name at the picture) - there is 230 V.
77  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: December 24, 2013, 01:12:45 AM
I was just looking at the cgminer image posted by gateway a few days ago and the work utility value on that screen seems really high for 422GH/s.

I would expect 422GH/s to show WU at about 6K, not the ~11K that is shown.  From the other stats on the screen it appears that it had been hashing for at least 10 minutes, so that should have been enough time for WU to stabilize.

It looks like the cgminer code was modified here a bit too much. On purpose?
78  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: December 17, 2013, 10:12:27 PM
At Ciara "They (...) put it back in its styrofoam packing material, and stacked each on pallets."
It does say that 400 BJs were assembled and packaged. I don't they would be packaged without chips. I'm hoping this means shipping will begin in a few days.
Putting it back in its styrofoam packing material and stacking each on pallets is not packaging them.
It is just what was to be done after a partial assembly, while the final assembly will be in future.
79  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: December 17, 2013, 03:33:53 AM
cointerra also showed the full box complete with custom cooling system... also before the asic arrived.  did you see anyone else do that?  did any other asic company show such a high level of readiness in advance of their asic arriving?   if they did, i sure haven't seen it.
It was KnCMiner who did it. They even incorporated changes to airflow proposed at the forum.

They also gave exact fabout and bumpout dates quoted from their fab.  yet again, do you know ANY OTHER ASIC company that gave us their fabout and bumpout dates?   i sure don't!
It was BFL who gave us their fabout and bumpout dates - even several times (new dates each time). Wink
