606  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will LTC make it or BTC be the lone king? on: May 29, 2013, 10:28:41 PM
Litecoin is good for speculation. That's enough to give it a fair amount of value apparently. I need to learn more about the differences between scrypt and SHA256 to pass an educated comment on that, but somehow I think its a good thing to have two coins which use different hashing algorithms.

When the 'weak hands' sell they often buy back at a cheaper rate with more coins.

This is most definitely true. Perhaps not for all of them but this 'weak hand' does it often.

Until they get caught in a bear trap... Then they are empty hands.

I know a few people who were selling and buying back cheaper, and managed to make gains for a while. They were doing okay at first, but they got caught off guard when price made a major rally, and ended up buying back in at a loss. Now those guys are currently holding less coins than if they had just held...

Basically I think trading is great if you really know what you are doing and can completely detach yourself from your emotions. But I don't know anyone who can actually do this, so I tend to advise my friends to buy and hold...

There is so much inexperience prevalent in trading bitcoins that it is hard to make a mistake that cannot be corrected in the near term. I've made plenty and all were easily mitigated with fairly mindless corrective trades. Bitcoin is one of the few remaining forgiving markets.

That's great that you've managed to correct your mistakes when trading. I'm not saying it can't be done, just that I think the average person will lose out trying to day trade (at least, most people I know). I don't really trade much because 1) I don't have any trading experience and I'm not confident that I'd make consistent gains and 2) I can't be bothered. I still enjoy following the speculation sub-forum though.

Someone listened to one too many sermons rather than studying with an open mind. You really just described one of the great mysteries of man vs gods. It is angering and confusing to comprehend something so silly.

Let's view this though the lens of physics and science instead. Experimentally we have sent radio waves and small particles through time. What does this mean? It means that those creations existed at both inception and at another time. This opens the possibility that they were here all along, and will be present long after they are perceived.

I understand your logic. I just think that many of us are jaded by the simplistic and often dogmatic views espoused by modern Christians. They refuse to understand the physical world as much as the atheist/agnostic refuses to acknowledge the spiritual world.

Many agnostic and atheist physicists tirelessly search for the 'God Theory' that supposedly will reconcile the realms and explain why the laws that dictate large particle interactions (gravity etc) do not hold true in the quantum realm and visa versa. Although we can observe and measure both quantum and classical physical phenomena; we cannot reconcile the simultaneous existence of them both.

Enigmatic at the least. Demands further study with an open mind by all rational people.

Ah, an intelligent post - well done, sir. Respect +1

Unless of course that wasn't supposed to be an argument, in which case I quite like your elephant hypothesis.

It isn't an argument as much as it is just meant to illustrate the absurdity. They are equal arguments since neither has any empirical evidence pointing to its validity.

If you're interested in worshiping Elephus, please understand she is the one true god, and the path to her exists only through obeying my word, her right hand man and appointed prophet. As far as you know, we celebrate her appropriately on St. Elephus Day by wearing wrinkly grey boots and an elephant mask while prancing through the streets showering with pink and brown confetti those gathered to bear witness to her godliness. And there's beer. Oh, and women jumping out of cakes.

Beer and women jumping out of cakes sounds good. I'm not going to wear wrinkly grey boots or an elephant mask though, that's just stupid.

613  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin Mining Power Could be Put to Better Use on: May 28, 2013, 01:11:47 AM

I saw a thread which suggested redirecting hashing power towards a project that had potential to cure cancer and other diseases - a better use of resources IMO

I don't usually indulge in philosophy, but try this on for size if you need a place to fit God in your head.

Great hypothesis, now begin testing it. Currently your fantasy shares an equal chance at truth as does, "I believe the universe was created by a pink polka-dotted elephant who pinched her trunk and farted us into existence because it sounds fun!"

Personally I like my guess better than yours because in my elephant hypothesis, the wonderful creator does not capriciously murder entire peoples simply because they disagree with her. She also never claimed to flood the entire planet, indiscriminately killing every living thing save the handful of crew members on an impossible boat. She's particularly proud she never kills people just because they work on Sunday, or are in love with people of the same sex, and she is gleeful she never approved of and/or promoted using other humans as chattel, unlike some other gods we know of.

I personally see a flaw in your argument, if you base your conception of 'God' (or however you choose to envisage such an entity) on such stories. Basically, if you are arguing against the existence of a supreme being/conciousness, perhaps there is a certain bias to assuming the worst stories to be fact and then attacking via that vector - to put it another way, does belief in God necessarily imply belief in the story of passover, the great flood etc? Or would it be possible that your pink polka dot elephant is closer to the truth....  Shocked

Maybe not all of them are weak, some may just cash out some percentage of their Btc wealth.
It's good if it's distributed a bit more evenly ^^

Nah they're all weak LOL  Wink
618  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Post if your GPUs still profitable to operate? on: May 27, 2013, 11:02:43 PM
This is my plan, maybe litecoin is a good alternative.
I'm curious what will happen with it, when all the GPU miners are switching from bitcoin. The difficulty will rise, but the BTC/LTC rate should too, to remain profitable for us.

I think Litecoin will be the one that most miners turn to - only question is, what will that do to Litecoin? Either price must increase to compensate for the increase in difficulty, or else people won't mine it because its not profitable. But then people won't be mining it? So difficulty should drop... Not exactly sure how it will play out TBH, but I've bought some Litecoins just in case  Wink

There is a darkness here. We are under attack. And this is not an enemy we can fight conventionally. This is almost of the supernatural.

limitless.

A hacker seemingly from the nether realms who has taken over at least 20-30 accounts recently. Thousands of various coins stolen.  He is everyone, and he is no one. Every single person you know, even the most trusted - all limitless. It cannot be stopped alone. We must all band together if we are to survive.

Report all suspected limitless activity here.

It only makes sense if we start with me. Just who am I? Have I been compromised? Are you falling right into his maze by believing me?

Trust no one friends.

You are obviously Limitless. 4/10 for effort.
620  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Post if your GPUs still profitable to operate? on: May 27, 2013, 10:42:11 PM
Just keep mining while its still profitable, even if its only a few dollars a week. Hold those coins and wait for higher prices, that way you haven't risked anything. You might find those few dollars a week are worth a lot more. When ASICs take over pick your favourite alt-coin and mine that...
