262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin Client Update on: May 02, 2013, 03:35:54 PM
Ty, and please add Vircurex on FC Exchanges list

Thanks for pointing that out. Not sure how I forgot to do this!

A feature that is seriously lacking in coin wallets, it the ability to do periodic payments, eg. automatically pay rent weekly etc.

I think coin wallets should contain most of the features that an Internet banking application would have for fiat currencies, at the moment they are very basic.

You could do this using scripts getting the daemon to send payment fired off by a scheduler. Ideally you would want an interface in the client for this though someone could put together an app which would use the daemon to do this task. The problem is if your computer is off or the scheduler/app is not running then no payments would be sent.
263  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Merged Scrypt mining? on: May 02, 2013, 03:13:36 PM
Merged mining needs to be implemented in the code. This would require a hard fork of the chain. There may be room for a scrypt Namescoin as it would provide a service at the same time. It is a hard to call to merge mine as it turns your coin into a byproduct of mining another coin.
264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The rumors feathercoin BTC-e Exchange? on: May 02, 2013, 03:11:14 PM
It's because everybody kept saying "Arise, chickun."  They thought they were encouraging Litecoin; instead, they accidentally summoned Feathercoin!

That is funny Smiley
265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: FeatherCoin - New Litecoin based coin on: May 02, 2013, 12:41:47 PM
The FeatherCoin Calc / FeatherCoin Stats feature is often down, because of the FeatherCoin Block Explorer.

Can you please fix this?

It is running on a local daemon. It should be updating better since yesterday as I updated the daemon. and the pages seemed to be loading much better. I found that often the page was stalling as the daemon seemed to take too long to respond. If it is still running slow let me know and I will move to new hosting.

When is the next difficulty jump?

Next difficulty in two days.

266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't even talk shit about Communist Coins after Feathercoin on: May 01, 2013, 02:41:28 PM
Just to show how stupid Feathercoin is, I think I will support ChinaCoin. It really is no different from Feathercoin, both are copy cats.

Long live communism!  Cheesy

I imagine that ChinaCoin might actually be popular with the Chinese altcoin community. It is interesting to see coins that are being made for certain communities in particular. This is actually the kind of thing I was expecting to happen. There is a Chinese exchange that recently opened. I would not be surprised to see it appear over there. You might actually be wise spending some time on these coins CoinHoarder.
267  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CHNcoin will be the death of Feathercoin! on: May 01, 2013, 01:29:01 PM
Perhaps we could have a coin for each country which can only be traded 9-5 in those countries.

Then we could get some sleep at night Smiley
268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CHNcoin will be the death of Feathercoin! on: May 01, 2013, 01:05:03 PM
CHNCoin will not be the death of FTC.

However I have put an old 4870 to the task of mining this coin. If it takes off in China I could go there on holiday Smiley

Updated Client
There has been a updated client released for Feathercoin. This includes a new checkpoint to protect against 51% attacks and an update is included for IPv6 errors being reported from some users. This update was applied to Bitcoin in 0.7.0 through to 0.8.1. I expect the upcoming version of Litecoin will include this update.

You can download the updated files and source code from the link below.

If you have any problems with the update please send me a PM and I will try to help you.
270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin is on Vircurex!!! Just Noticed on: May 01, 2013, 12:51:08 PM
nesic1, better report that to Vircurex support as soon as possible. I'm sure they will help you out and hopefully fix the issue.

Good news to hear about this. This is unexpected news as we were destined for the new Vircurex exchange for newer alts but it looks like we have skipped a step.

I'm working solely on Feathercoin at the moment. I am trying to get all the online tools I use for other coins all over the Internet on the official website. This would be helpful for myself so I'm guessing it will be helpful for others Smiley

272  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When is the next coin coming out? on: April 30, 2013, 06:43:21 PM
If someone was to create a new coin I would like to see demurrage tried again but without the 80% of coins going to the creators. I thought the 4.9% demurrage going to the miners was a very interesting idea. Whether it is a winner I'm not sure but Freicoin did not manage to put it to the test properly. It would need to be scrypt and a faster block retarget as well. Also Freicoin apparently needs a fix to stop demurrage happening to transactions.
273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin haters are unintelligent and want the cryptoworld to be a worse plac on: April 30, 2013, 05:28:17 PM
I think the 'haters' in the world just needs hugs. Often the people who need the most hugs are the most unhuggable Smiley
274  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is everyone loving Feathercoin so much? on: April 30, 2013, 05:24:08 PM
The crucial point though tends to come when the miners move on. How many months or weeks or days will it take for difficulty to come back down? How many hours or days betwen blocks in the meantime?

I will be very interested to see what happens at that point. I cannot imagine that it will be as bad as some others.

With FTC it will be the worst ever because, you see, LTC is about to hit the Gox. Once that happens, your pathetic fork will be forgotten. Ohh, cruel destiny!  Grin

That's not what I see happening subSTRATA. There are people like myself who will no longer mine BTC and LTC, they are looking towards another coins.

I will be very interested to see what happens at that point. I cannot imagine that it will be as bad as some others. If you remember Freicoin getting stuck high for three months. Miners kept going for a while before they gave up and left it trickling along on what seemed like only a handful of low performance GPUs.

Feathercoin's blocks are targeted for 2.5 minutes, which is four times faster than Freicoin. There is a large user base of people who do not hop around according to coinchoose and will continue on Feathercoin. No one's patience will last forever but it will not take that long.

I am not expecting us to be held up at a high difficulty for long and look forward to the easier mining on the other side Smiley
276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin compiles but doesn't startup, error Address family not supported by on: April 30, 2013, 03:17:49 PM
This is an issue with IPv6. Try enabling it or disabling IPv6 and try again.

Or apply the fix below and recompile.

https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues/1819

I will look to change this in the Feathercoin client on the next release as this is an error that has come up a few times.
277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is everyone loving Feathercoin so much? on: April 30, 2013, 09:53:32 AM
It has grown very quickly, much more than expected. I figured I would be working with a small community of people on this coin. It seems that the community has grown large and at great speed. This has made the project more serious sooner than expected, if people are going to use Feathercoins in the way they have been then it has to be taken seriously. Currently I am dedicating all my time to Feathercoin.
278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin opening trade day 1FC = 0.05 LTC and going up on: April 29, 2013, 11:29:20 PM

I fear for the future of any coin when a carbon copy altcoin can get this much attention and value without providing any benefit over an existing one.

NO ONE is asking for Feathercoin to be accepted as a currency. No one is talking about the developers. No one is interested in the 'ecosystem'. ALL people are screaming is 'we need an exchange' and 'GO Feathercoin, to the sky!!!'.

Pretty bleak outlook..

That's why I sold half to get back what I put in.

At the same time though I don't see why an exact copy cannot exceed its original form, it's all the same code and if the idea is sound then "who came first" doesn't really matter.

Well, Feathercoin has just proven (so far) that you can in fact take something existing and just slap a new logo on it and be just fine. I just think that it's a little 'sad' that this happens in place of real innovation. I also dislike the idea that the 'developers' (and I use that loosely) behind Feathercoin so blatantly let a group of 'friends' mine out what right now amounts to something like 40% of the total supply in the first 12 hours, likely as 'payment' for them spreading the gospel and making at current value several hundred thousand $ if not more for their trouble.

I guess i'm just a little disappointed in how things are progressing.

TheSwede75, you seem a little upset. I'm wondering if you would be happier about Feathercoin if you actually had some. If you send me your address I can send you some Smiley

I cannot imagine that anyone or any group of people have 40% of the coins. The coin was announced at a busy time of the day and people jumped on to this coin very fast, and I'm talking lots of people. The take up was actually much more than expected. I was looking forward to being part of community around this and did not realise we would be so large so quickly.

Come on, for your own sake calm down. It is unnecessary to get this upset.

I created an new thread with some updates on Feathercoin earlier today. If you missed it take a quick look.

The link has moved to the following address. Please let me know if that old address is on a live link.

https://www.feathercoin.com/dl/FeatherCoin.zip

I like what Ben has done. But the Stats page often does not work:
"Warning! The FeatherCoin Block Explorer is down, so we were unable to retrieve the current difficulty. This calculator should still work normally though."

Why do you make yourself dependent on a third party site (this Block Explorer)? I mean you could easily get/calculate this information from a locally running feathercoind, no?

That error message is erroneous, it is now a remote daemon Smiley

The hosting would not let us run a daemon locally. I will move the stats page to a server with a daemon as it needs to be reliable. altmine2 is going to shoot me after all the trouble we had getting this to talk to the remote daemon.
