201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Critical Update] Feathercoin 0.6.4 - Hard Fork at block 33,000 on: May 18, 2013, 10:32:22 AM
At this rate FtC will retarget in 30 days or so.

Actually it looks like we are picking up a bit of steam as blocks are ticking faster. We should not be sitting around for that long.

Smoothie where have you been anyway?

There have been so many coins coming out and a lot of them need your attention. This is not one of them by the way. The fact that you are chasing us now makes me think you only target coins you deem a threat. If true this puts you on par with the trolls in the troll box, I always thought you were better than them but just misguided Smiley

Back to business, I mine 35 coins a day now that I've tripled my mining setup. Looking forward to the next difficulty though it cannot come soon enough now.
202  Bitcoin / Mining / Looking for GPU Bitcoin miners with 50,000 MH/s or more on: May 18, 2013, 09:56:13 AM
I am posting here in the hope of finding some large GPU Bitcoin miners in the region of 50,000MHs or more.

If you have a large farm or if you know someone who does then please send me a PM.
203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Critical Update] Feathercoin 0.6.4 - Hard Fork at block 33,000 on: May 18, 2013, 07:32:51 AM
They were all built from source.  The old version which has no issues and the new version that crashes were built on the same box, using the exact same packages.  I am going to try to recompile again and see what happens.

Did you clone a fresh copy from GitHub?

I think they have to released another version with another correction. We will never be able to touch this block within 20 days.

I agree.  At best, you'll see today's network hashrate hold up.  At worst, it will shrink by half every week as the savior miners throw in the towel.

Block 33,000 is too far out if we want to see any rebound.  It might be best to release again with a fork at 32,900.  Or even 38,500.

Carry the FTC momentum while we still have it.  It's painful to release again, I know. But waiting another 3+ weeks might kill the coin entirely.

33,000 is getting closer. I've just got up and will now continue the mission to get us some hash power.
204  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Question About Lowering Power Limit % in MSI Afterburner on: May 17, 2013, 08:23:08 PM
Perhaps this is dangerous information but I have had cards that are prone to overheat before and have change the temperature at which the card gets throttled in cgminer to 95 from the default 85 using --temp-overheat 95.

However, a practical and safer working approach I took today was to put a 10" desk fan right on to the cards. My 100C 7950 is now running at 75C on intensity 18. Perhaps a cheap desk fan could be your quick fix too?
205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Looking for Miners on: May 17, 2013, 07:35:56 PM
I have put my two new 7850s into action on Coinotron along with my 7970. My 9 year old son now has dual 7950s in his computer. I now have ordered a new case and power supply so I can throw a 5870 and 6850 into my computer and get them thrashing too Smiley
206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Looking for Miners on: May 17, 2013, 04:02:20 PM
1,000Kh will mine 21 coins a day at 50% profitability against Bitcoin. 50 coins per 1,000Kh would put it over 150% profitability and is more than I can afford.
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Looking for Miners on: May 17, 2013, 03:43:31 PM
We are looking for some miners to throw some hash power towards Scrypt based Feathercoin to get it to the hard fork.

If you do not know Feathercoin was mined heavily and at one point the network was 5,000KH (5,000MH in Bitcoin), which for a new alternative cryptocurrency is a lot of hash power. This has left us in the position where the Litecoin difficulty adjust used is not suitable, we cannot take a certain amount of hash power for granted like Bitcoin and Litecoin. To stop us from being left at a high difficulty like this again we are moving to a difficulty adjust that is four times quicker but only adjusts by a maximun of 41.4% either way. This starts working on block 33,000 and we currently have 175 blocks to go

At the next difficulty transactions will start moving quicker and we will get some extra confidence. With a 41.4% difficulty adjust this will put us under the most profitable coin so we will be able to mine coins without everyone else returning in mass.

What I am hoping is that there are some of you who might want to mine a few Feathercoins for fun or future profit or perhaps to send a bit of hash power our way to help us out. We have an active community supporting this coin and are doing everything we can to make it work for everyone.

Good news is that Coinotron has added support today for Feathercoin. Hopefully this will make it easier for some of you to send some hash power our way if you choose to.

208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What happened to PPC? on: May 17, 2013, 01:17:55 PM
With Litecoin going to Gox the race was on for the next Litecoin. We are still waiting for Litecoin to go on to Gox and confidence is ebbing as to whether this will happen. Money has been coming out of all the alts incluing Litecoin and it keeps coming out. When Litecoin finally goes to Gox and the world does not collapse, expect the value of all the alts to go shooting back up. There is a lot more potential in an alt doubling or tripling your investment than with Bitcoin. If people see Litecoin ascend to Gox the race will be back on.

Personally I believe there is room for several alts, they are not all competing for one spot but can actually maintain their own place in the market.
209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Critical Update] Feathercoin 0.6.4 - Hard Fork at block 33,000 on: May 17, 2013, 06:52:05 AM
Well after we built it and loaded it it was crashing every 5 minutes and restarting.  We switched back to the old build and everything was fine.  If we wait for a block to be found could this solve the issue?

I have responded to you on GitHub.
210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Critical Update] Feathercoin 0.6.4 - Hard Fork at block 33,000 on: May 16, 2013, 09:38:53 PM
It is averaged and the hashrate can be sporadic, the last day would not be a great enough sample. There is one user who turns up on a pools that makes a large difference when around.
211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Critical Update] Feathercoin 0.6.4 - Hard Fork at block 33,000 on: May 16, 2013, 09:19:58 PM
The network stats page us been updated to reflect the changes made. We are currently looking at three and a half days.

Network stats
Retarget Time and Next difficulty
212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Critical Update] Feathercoin 0.6.4 - Hard Fork at block 33,000 on: May 16, 2013, 12:53:22 PM
@Bushstar, instead of reducing retarget time, have you considered making difficulty retarget dynamic so just it will adjust REALLY FREQUENTLY, something similar to Bitbar?

There are other coins out there that use or are planning to implement very responsive difficulty targets. This is great from a technical standpoint and I'm sure everyone is interested to see what the full effect of this means long term. If anyone of them proves over time to be best solution I'm sure other coins will make the change, it would be daft not to Smiley

What we have gone for with Feathercoin is a more conventional solution, that is more native to Bitcoin and Litecoin. This change will suit us for the foreseeable future and we can now start focusing on other challenges.
213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Critical Update] Feathercoin 0.6.4 - Hard Fork at block 33,000 on: May 16, 2013, 11:40:47 AM
Current Network Hashrate    254,234 KHash/s
Current Block    32811

It's going to take days to get to block 33,000, people just aren't interested in helping mine.

We have already been up at this high difficulty for a while now. Some people need to focus on what is profitable right now and I understand this. If we had the 504 block adjust already things would have started moving more quickly by now. This makes me feel positive about the future.

Once I feel that we have everything in place I will pursue getting some additional has rate to get us to 33,000. After that we will see another difficulty adjust not long after at block 33,264. This will bring us back on target Smiley
214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Critical Update] Feathercoin 0.6.4 - Hard Fork at block 33,000 on: May 16, 2013, 07:11:54 AM
All this fork does is inflate the supply of FTC in circulation.

Seriously a difficulty adjustment cap down 10 times?

Lol

Price of FTC will crash...just watch lol

Take your profits folks.  Cheesy

Smoothie, yesterday I saw a post where you said you were brutally honest and I thought, perhaps he really does think he is doing everyone a service, it is just a shame that he generally gets it wrong Smiley

Is response to exahash who pointed out a real concern that the recovery would be too slow. We do not want out coin to recover and jump straight back to the top of CoinChoose again for the reasons Smoothie said. We would rather it comes down to a more workable level so we can keep mining and supporting our coin while everyone else chases the most profitable coin. When I started mining Litecoin I did not do it because it was the most profitable. I did it because I believed in it and I enjoyed it.

I'm not so sure about FC2 but I hear good things about the upcoming FC5.

Anyway in the real world work continues on Feathercoin.

If it helps at all, below is the script I wrote for Feathercoin to copy all the library files into the .app and update the locations. Just change the client name and update the library paths.

217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FTC and Hard Fork ? on: May 15, 2013, 01:07:56 PM
The difficulty will be set to change four times faster than Litecoin with a change every 504 blocks and a 41.4% difficulty adjust giving it the same ability to change difficulty over 2016 blocks. This has been a popular solution over at the Feathercoin forum. This change continues Feathercoin's position being four times that of Litecoin like Litecoin is four times that of Bitcoin.

Smaller alts are having to come up with solutions to problem that the bigger coins do not have to worry about. Bitcoin and Litecoin can take a certain amount of hash power for granted. To me this has always been the purpose of alternative cryptocurrencies. The alts have to come up with solutions that could eventually used by others.

Multiplying by the number 4 is only considered innovative for a child in Kindergarten.  If this is the depth of what you can come up with just quit now.  Other alt-coins have already created several difficulty algorithm solutions, notably PPC, TRC and most recently FRC which is also conducting a hard fork to implement it, non of these coins would dare to call what your proposing innovative.  If it actually works for you it will be by mere luck.

While I agree FTC has little innovation and possibly even less future, YOUR coin (FRC) is pure pompus assery. Let the kids have their fun and go back to your world changing philiosophy of inclusion though exclusion.

The next innovation with demurrage will be a demurrage coin without the 80% Foundation fund. When is maaku ever going to start issuing those coins out to projects? The initial coins I mined on Feathercoin went out on bounties and building services. It was a great experience for all involved. FRC should be supporting its community in a similar way even more as it has coins set aside for this purpose by design.

We could have picked up other coins difficulty adjust, but decided to go with a more conventional solution, which is more natural to Bitcoin and Litecoin and extends the differences between Bitcoin to Litecoin to Feathercoin.

The solution we have come up with will work very well for Feathercoin so I'm not sure what the problem is. If it works well then other coins are be free to use it.

FC is traded on an exchange so unlike FC2 it should probably be taken seriously.
So Chinacoin should be taken seriously? YaCoin too?

Before putting hard earned money into a coin you need to do some research. Check if there is a community that supports the coin, if there is active development working on the code base and if there are active plans to further the use of the coin with merchants and services.

Feathercoin is what I spend all my time on and I take it very seriously.

I thought FC was defunct now we have FC2.

That was a joke/troll Hazard. I, nor anyone else working on Feathercoin has anything to do with FC2.
