Try Google Chrome.

That worked perfectly.

Thanks so much for the pointer, it's embarassing how much time I spent on this issue earlier. Should have just assumed it was an IE issue....
1122  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: X6500 Custom FPGA Miner on: November 16, 2012, 04:32:34 AM
Has anyone figured out how to run a x6500 on Windows XP x64? I have tried everything (for months) and can not seem to get it to work.

To get around this I've run my x6500s in a Ubuntu VM running within VMWare workstation with fizzisist's miner. This has worked fine, the issue though is every few days VMWare drops the USB connection, its not the x6500, it is VMWare.

So I'd like to just get the x6500 to run on my base machine which is WinXPx64.

The issue is the mpbm miner does not seem to work in WinXPx64. Well it works, but the problem is the website http://127.0.0.1:8832/ does not open so there is no way to configure mpbm under winxpx64. The error I get is "The XML page cannot be displayed".

Has anyone run into this and figured it out? I've spent hours on this with no luck.

Again the x6500 work fine with fizzisist's miner under linux so there is no H/W issue.

Thanks!
Rocks

I wonder if Inaba the Douche-Nozzle spent less time trolling, and more time on his pool, if it would go for more than a day without issues.

A few months ago I switched to EMC to try it out. After running there for a week or so I notice my payout dropped by 10-15% vs. other pools. The luck seemed to be about average but there were constant connection and other issues. Inaba kept posting that it was this or that issue and no worries it's fixed, but then a day later it would crap out again. This was around when he introduced the diff server which seemed to knock out the us1,2,3 servers.

It was clear Inaba has no idea how to run a production server as he was treating production like a test environment. Mistakes all over the place, and very defensive reactions. One time I posted a strange block time artifact, he replied that it was fixed and how could I be so stupid as to post that. But his original reply that it was fixed happened BEFORE the time stamp on the problem I brought up, so obviously it wasn't fixed. Childish.

The thing is you can't do this with ASICs, you have to be 100% fully tested and 100% confident before tape-out. I used to be in the field and have completed many designs, mistakes can not be allowed. If EMC is any indication of BFL's quality control, I'd be worried if I was a pre-order customer there...

And 2-3 weeks after the deisgn is completed I will have a handful of production boards made (this takes about 5 days) - with pictures on the web site  and
these boards will be sent to the developers I mentioned before

Just had to correct it for you Wink

This is how to engage the community with good will, and since good hardware deserves and is dependant on good software, appreciating the value the free software developers provide is critical. Well done.

Agreed, this open engagement is why I finally pulled the trigger on ordering a bASIC. I'm not a fan of pre-orders but appreciate Tom's openess with the community and it goes a long way towards being comfortable with the project's status.

1126  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Which Card Has The Fastest ROI? on: September 24, 2012, 05:40:29 PM
did Satoshi Nakomoto predict companies customizing hardware that will outhash the average person's GPU and thus turn the people holding bitcoin into large capital surplused institutions?

He'd be pretty naive if he didn't foresee a future where people would strive for better performance and faster hash rates, or at the least improvements in efficiency.
After all FPGA's and ASIC have been used for exactly that in many other similar industries since they were first designed, to do relatively simple tasks ridiculously fast, that were once done by CPU's, sometimes even entire server farms of computers.
I doubt anyone expected it to happen this fast of course, from it's early days around when he disappeared.

From what I've read of Satoshi's original posts, no a shift to high capital cost & customized equipment was not expected nearly this fast or even at all. Maybe after a decade or so when the payout per block become < 6BTC, but not yet.

The goal was for widely distributed hashing and BTC generation, both to ensure stability of the network and to disperse BTC widely in order to encourage adoption. The number of people dropping $40K plus figures for Avalon's or SC Rigs is counter these goals.

IMHO if Satoshi predicted this, he would have made the hashing algorithm more complicated in order to require a CPU (i.e. limited benefit from GPU, FPGA or ASIC).

All that said I don't believe the rise of ASICs and centralized mining (at least for now) is necessarily a negative event, in fact I think it demonstrates just how strong the crypto currency is and how rapidly it is gaining traction.

For all the MINERS selling $+10K worth of BTC for equipment, there are USERS buying BTC for other market purposes. This is capitalism.

And unlike others, I think ASICs will strengthen the network. The reason is the ASICs have no other purpose, once an ASIC is fabed the only useful thing it can do is add hashing power to the network. This ensures a stable base of hashing power. Compare this to GPU mining when the 2011 crash happened, the network started to weaken because people sold their GPUs to gamers. Even if people sell their ASICs, the only thing a buyer can do is hash with it, this is positive for the bitcoin project.

IMHO the goal of the network is to become strengthened against government disruption, if 100,000 ASICs are sold that would do a lot towards getting there.

Has anyone gotten the TLM bitstream to work with a x6500 board? I tried the instructions on the TLM website, but without success.

If anyone figured it out and is willing to share what they did, that would be fantastic.

2, about payment: confirmed accept bitcoins and wire-transfer, and bitcoins will have much higher priorities. credit card is still considering (expect the possibility and BUY bitcoins if you intend to order).

Hi ngzhang,

Does the above mean BTC payments will ship before wire transfer payments?

If so why? Wire transfers are hard unredemable cash, so generally I'd assume those payments should be high on the priority list, or at least equal to BTC...

If there is a difference in shipment priorities, could you give an estimate of the effect? For example would BTC payments receive units weeks before wire transfers or months before.

Lastly how has the survey gone? Do you expect pre-orders to close very quickly?

Thanks,

According to the readme, you have to use --scan-serial /dev/ttyUSBn (where n is the device ID).

Yes, sorry I had tried /dev/ttyUSBx before as well (just forgot to add it to the list), but it did not work either.

Code:
$ ./cgminer -o [pool] -u name -p pw
$ ./cgminer -o [pool] -u name -p pw --scan-serial /dev/ttyUSB0
$ ./cgminer -o [pool] -u name -p pw --scan-serial /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Butterfly_Labs_Inc._BitFORCE_SHA256-if00-port0
$ ./cgminer -o [pool] -u name -p pw --scan-serial /dev/usbmon0 (or usbmon1/2/3/4/etc)

All return
Code:
All devices disabled, cannot mine!

/dev/ttyUSB0 is the right device because it appears and disappears when I plug/unplug the single. But cgminer still does not recognize it.

Is there anyway to debug the connection and where the issue is? Ubuntu sees the new USB device when it's plugged in, so I'm not sure where the issue is...

Thanks!
1130  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU FPGA overclock monitor fanspeed RPC linux/windows/osx/mip/r-pi 2.7.5 on: September 22, 2012, 06:20:00 AM
Change this
Code:
$ CFLAGS="-O2 -Wall -march=native" ./configure
to this.
Code:
$ CFLAGS="-O2 -Wall -march=native" ./configure --enable-bitforce

Smiley

Thanks Krak,

That got it to compile (it might be helpful to add to the FPGA-README file).

But cgminer still can not seem to find the bfl single. I've tried both auto-detect and specifiying various /dev/xxx paths, but nothing seems to work.

Code:
$ ./cgminer -o [pool] -u name -p pw
$ ./cgminer -o [pool] -u name -p pw --scan-serial /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Butterfly_Labs_Inc._BitFORCE_SHA256-if00-port0
$ ./cgminer -o [pool] -u name -p pw --scan-serial /dev/usbmon0 (or usbmon1/2/3/4/etc)

All return
Code:
All devices disabled, cannot mine!

1) In Ubuntu does anyone know how to find the correct /dev/xxx device for a specific single?
2) I have x6500s running on the same machine (with MPBM) perfectly fine, could this be causing a conflict?
3) Is there any way to test the connection to a bfl single to see if the issue is an incorrectly configured miner, connection issue, or a problem with the single itself.

Any suggestions would be great, I managed to get a x6500 with no issues, but have not been able to get the single running for some reason.

Thanks!

default, they have been doing this for ages, not sure why.

Great, thanks. Glad to hear it's just the default paper.
1132  Economy / Marketplace / Re: ["WAIT LIST"] BFL Singles Order Date / Ship Date on: September 21, 2012, 05:28:01 AM
Ordered 8/8/2012
Quantity 1
Delivered 9/18/2012

BFL has definitely caught up which is great.

With the packaging was a paper saying the single was a Rev 1 device. Did others receive the same thing? Or is this just their default generic install guide?

If it is a Rev 1 that would be disappointing...

Hi,

I am trying to install cgminer 2.7.5 on Ubuntu 12.04 to run a new BFL single, but can not get cgminer to find the BFL single. I followed the standard instructions and did:

$ CFLAGS="-O2 -Wall -march=native" ./configure
$ make

If I then run this, I get:
$ ./cgminer -o [pool] -u username -p pw
All devices disabled, cannot mine!

If I try to force cgminer to scan for the device, I get the following error:
$ ./cgminer -o [pool] -u username -p pw --scan-serial
[2012-09-20 22:08:55] ./cgminer --scan-serial: unrecognized option

There must be something basic I am doing wrong, but have spent a few hours and can not figure it out.

BTW, the single is plugged in fine, running
$ lsusb
returns
"Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0403:6014 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd FT232H Single HS USB-UART/FIFO IC"
So, I assume it is not a connection issue...

Any help or pointers would be really appreciated!

Thanks!
1134  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: butterfly labs is definitely mining with those ASICs at the moment on: September 19, 2012, 08:33:36 PM
Did it ever occur to people that self ASIC mining could have always been part of the plan?

BFL promised tentative dates of Oct or Nov for ASIC deliveries. As long as they met that, then no one has any right to complain or state BFL is acting inappropriately. If BFL planned for ASIC completion in September and to self mine for 2 months, and only then deliver en mass to purchasers, that would be completely consistent with what people bought and paid for.

People bought an ASIC to be delivered by end-of-November and for those parts to function for 1 year. Whatever BFL does with the hardware before end-of-November is their business....

just my 2 cents.

I can confirm I paid bonks with BTC directly and received a perfectly functional x6500 board (and well packed) within a few days with no issues.

As I said several posts up name coin screwed up block processing. It should not happen again as I have changed he code to prevent it.

OK, thanks for the explaination. Well those were blocks from last night so it seems to still be happening FYI.
1137  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1900 GH/s] EMC: 0 Fee/PPS/DGM/Merged Mining/Dwolla Payout/SMS/Yubikey/More on: September 18, 2012, 03:34:31 AM
This was pretty interesting, can anyone explain it?

2 blocks were found back to back within six seconds. EMC block 2218 and 2219.

However 7 bitcoin blocks were found between 2217 and 2218 and 14 bitcoin blocks between 2218 and 2219. Which implies the network found 21 blocks in 12 seconds.

Any idea what is going on? I'm assuming something is off the timestamps and block 2217 did not take 6 whole hours...

Hi,

The main website lists the x6500 as unconfirmed. Has anyone successfully gottten the TML miner to run on a x6500 board? And if so were was anything special required?

Thanks!

For people willing to put money down on this, here is the betsofbitcoin bet for whether or not BFL will deliver by end of November.

Butterfly Labs SC Single will be delivered by end of November 2012

That's great news, I ordered 8/8/12 so hopefully I'm right behind you!

BTW, did you receive any email shipping notice from BFL, or did they just appear at your door?
