921  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big businesses, corporations also influence the price of cryptocurrency market. on: February 24, 2023, 10:13:18 AM
It's a known fact! Elon did it couple of time where the market had taken positive turn. Warren Buffet and Jemie Dimon did it as well where the market went into negative mode. So yes, big corporations and influential people have influenced the crypto market quite a few times in the past.

However, the good part is that now the market is slowly becoming immune from such negative comments made by the influencers and corporates. The market dynamics are becoming matured with time.
922  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CBDC and Regulation discussion on: February 23, 2023, 04:56:38 PM
How can the government make sure that something like FTX (cooperate finance enriching themselves) never happened again? Crypto is presently not regulated and I don't see how regulation will fix this issue, my concern is the CBDC, I think it will work better as the real Stable coin, unlike Luna UST that team claimed was back by dollar but was not backed by anything... Wouldn't CBDC fixed this issue of fake USD backed stable coins?

You as a crypto adopter would you like to use CBDC if the pairs are available on all crypto exchanges as a way to store yourself some digital US Dollar?

You are mixing multiple things with no co-relation. First try to understand what CBDC is and what's it's purpose. 8t has no relation with cryptos. Also it doesn't guarantee that situation like  FTX will never arise again.

CBDC is just a digital representation of your fiat money. So if a crypto company claims that they are backed by USD, there's no way to validate the claim just because of CBDC. Get your concept corrected first!
923  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what is your reason for gifting bitcoin on: February 23, 2023, 01:53:11 PM
If $300 worth of bitcoin is given to someone who doesn't have a job and have been looking for opportunity to invest in bitcoin.  Will it be possible for the person to focus on this investment without selling at the moment because of the present financial situation. I'm asking this question because of people who wish to gift bitcoin to people who are going through difficult financial challenge,  is there any need to give bitcoin as gift to people who need money to settle urgent financial problems.

Or bitcoin should only be given to those who can truly invest and yield profits.  Can you gift bitcoin to random people who may not make profit from it.

If someone is going through a financial problem with an immediate need of fund, I wouldn't gift bitcoin to him because that won't solve the urgent need. Rather I will try to gift him money which he can immediately use to support the situation.

Bitcoin gifting can be done when someone has time to hold onto it and not in need of an emergency fund. This way the person can do his own research before taking a decision of either selling or holding it.
924  Economy / Economics / Re: Eu Cina vs USA russia oil vs Green energy on: February 23, 2023, 05:15:13 AM
It is easier said than done! Green energy is highly costly to set up so it needs a substantial upfront investment. Also, it is not very cost-effective for a highly populated country like China. EU can make it happen due to the small population and higher per capita income, but for countries like China, it's a distant dream unless they figure out a way to reduce the upfront investment to generate green energy.

As per some reports, US holds the highest oil reserve in the world, even bigger than Venezuela, Saudi, and Russia put together.

https://www.businessinsider.com/us-has-the-worlds-largest-oil-reserves-2016-7?IR=T

These are just hidden by the US government for now. Probably a long-term gameplan to maintain world dominance.

925  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New world order or CBDC against cryptocurrencies on: February 22, 2023, 04:44:50 PM
So it seems Nigeria is following Modi's plan but in a different context. Modi did the same in India to curb the use of black money and Nigeria did it to push the digital money. That's quite unfortunate that Nigerians are living under an authoritarian government.

Cryptocurrency should see positive responses from Nigerian due to this forceful nature of their government. Demonetization usually brings in more liquidity and positive upward trend to cryptocurrency similar to what we have seen in India.
926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think will happen once Hong Kong legalizes bitcoin? on: February 22, 2023, 04:07:51 PM
Some of you probably saw the news that bitcoin will be fully legal to its citizens in June. What do you guys think will happen to Bitcoin?

Not sure if the new is true because HongKong's administration is heavily influenced by China and we all know about the anti-crypto stance of Chinese government. So it may not be true!

However if it is real then it will be a good news for the crypto market. Hongkong is a wealthy country and we can expect a lot of liquidity to come into crypto market. Let's hope for the best.
927  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it good to accept crypto as a payment? on: February 22, 2023, 02:38:35 PM
I have seen a report today that in 2022 crypto payments showed an amazing rise. People are really accepting it and giving the value as they are giving to fiat payments.

Are you guys accepting crypto payments for your business?

Crypto payments are good but it all depends on your risk taking capacity. You need to understand that cryptocurrency 8s extremely volatile. So if you are willing to accept crypto payments for your business, you will have to accept the volatility as well.

So decide wisely if you are ok to accept that volatility or not. If yes, go ahead with it. Also check with your local administration if crypto payments are legal in your jurisdiction and take a call accordingly.
928  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shiba Inu turns into privacy coin like Monero or ZCash? on: February 21, 2023, 05:26:19 PM
It is definitely possible!

I am happy that now Shiba Inu will now have at least one utility - anonymity! Earlier this coin was absolute rubbish without any utility at all. But I am glad to see that it is becoming privacy focused and preparing to becoming a competitor of Zcash or XMR. Good call by the dev team.

Now the value of Shiba Inu should start an upward trend due to the great utility planned to be launched.
Would you really call that any more utility then sending tokens normal way? Only difference is that this rubbish is now using third party service for private transactions.
It's not in a any way in competition of any of the privacy coins out there, especially with Zcash or XMR who have insanely talented dev team.

I would still call it an utility! Shiba inu is a shitcoin and we all know that it was built as a memecoin. But it has received unparalleled love from the crypto community and the speculators.

Now when this meme coin is thinking to move to a privacy regime, it is actually bringing in an utility to the community. Now there will be atleast a reason to buy and use Shiba Inu. So I will stand for what I have said.
929  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What If There Is A Ban on: February 21, 2023, 03:08:24 PM
We all agree we're living in a crazy world and what's far worse is that it is managed by a bunch of clowns..
So, let's think wildly, one day US were to further increase the censorship just like some of the other countries in the world, they ban bitcoin, they ban VPN, they pass legislation for those who mine/trade/spend btc will be sent to jail.
(Let's not say it's not going to happen. It can! You never know just like you would never have known that there's a war in 2022.)

Other countries start to follow.

Where will you be and what kind of life will it be and how is it going to impact yours?

It sounds like a science fiction to me but for argument if I consider this is happening, cryptos won't survive! Because majority of the crypto enthusiasts actually like to follow the law. So a huge amount of crypto holders will try to sell their holding which will eventually destroy the market.

Also a lot of other countries will then start following the same rule which will worsen the situation further. Only a small amount of holders will continue with cryptos but they will probably move to a privacy coin like Zcash or XMR. So the impact will be pretty severe for those over dependent on cryptocurrency.
930  Local / India / Re: Separate section for crypto in new ITR forms on: February 20, 2023, 07:42:27 PM

Crypto trading has become legal in India after all  Tongue but it's just that the high tax rate which is bothering many crypto enthusiasts in India.
Are you guys going to fill up the crypto section in the new ITR forms ?

Yes sure! I would encourage everyone to be truthful about declaring your taxes because no one would want regulatory hassles in their life. So it's best to declare the crypto transactions correctly.

Quote
I guess we don't really need to fill it up until we exchange the coins for INR and withdraw to our bank account.
How would the government know if I hold any coins ?

That's my understanding as well. Unless and until we convert the cryptos to INR, we can't really consider it as an income. So I will follow the same unless my CA tells me otherwise.
931  Economy / Economics / Re: The Rise of GPT AI. Crypto is at risk? on: February 20, 2023, 12:37:42 PM
Trading bots is not a new concept but with AI support and machine learning, it might get better with time. But how crypto will be at risk if an AI bot is able to create a good trading bot which can execute trades with better perfection?

Market manipulation is also a very old concept and exists even before the AI became reality. So AI needs to go a long way before it can actually manipulate the market with fake orders. A risk is always there but should that stop innovation?
932  Economy / Economics / Re: Bank of Russia to Pilot CBDC in April on: February 20, 2023, 06:59:59 AM
I am really skeptical if they would make any sensible pilot program working.
But even if they would get it working i wonder if anyone would want to touch it as any proper CBDC needs KYC:ing and most likely people from "unfriendly" countries and members of opposition, people with wrong opinions about Kremilin would instantly get their CBDC rubles frozen and confiscated.

That's what the governments want around the world! They want to have absolute control on their citizens financial data. Fiat still has some certain degrees of anonymity. But with CBDC, that little bit of anonymity will be permanently gone! Government can do whatever they want! It can be anything from freezing funds to arresting people over high value transactions.

The first country to successfully pilot CBDC was China. One of those authoritarian governments. So the gameplan is very clear!
933  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The bolt driver experience: promoting bitcoin in my business on: February 19, 2023, 06:36:53 PM
Congratulations on your first bitcoin payment. I know a lot of businesses will be interested in accepting bitcoin payment if the regulatory framework is favorable. Unfortunately, a lot of countries have not yet made clear bitcoin regulations which is effectively discouraging the merchants from accepting bitcoin payment.

Here's another success story of bitcoin payment from my country,

Slowly but surely we will reach there!
934  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: February 19, 2023, 04:55:08 AM
Can be a reality in smaller countries like many EU countries but not at all practical for the bigger countries like Russia, China, US, India, Australia etc. Also the price of an EV is a big turndown. 40% of the cost goes to just it's battery.

I quite often go for a long drive. I do at least one long drive every month. Now if I want to use EV, every single time I will have to halt for at least an hour just to recharge the car.

So the target of 2035 looks quite ambitious to me. Unless a technological breakthrough is achieved like fast charging or extraordinary range, EV will remain impractical for bigger countries.

I have used LG smartphones before.  They were great smartphones (great design, great screen, light weight, great cameras).

However, their battery life left a lot to be desired.  Also, these smartphones very slowly charged the battery from charging.

However, now I use smartphones from the Chinese company Xiaomi and see great progress in the field of batteries and fast charging technology.  Batteries easily hold a charge for two days, and charge in 40 minutes.  This indicates that technological progress is developing very quickly.

Returning to LG smartphones - despite the weak battery, they had a very useful feature - a removable battery.  Electric vehicles may also have a removable battery that can be quickly replaced while driving.

I completely understand what you are trying to say! We all have seen that transition. That's why I have mentioned unless a technological breakthrough is achieved and unless the price of batteries is slashed, it's hard for EV to see commercial success. Also, a lot depends on the EV infrastructure. I have seen many EU countries have decent EV infra, especially Norway! But this is easier for a smaller country to manage. But for bigger countries like India or China or Russia, it is extremely difficult.

But the silver lining here is that the governments are taking an interest to promote EV through tax benefits and policy changes. I will end with a personal story. I had purchased my second car in December 2022. The same car is available in EV as well but I have got the petrol one. It is simply because the EV car with the same feature is at least 30% costlier. The price is a big factor.

936  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Wyoming passes bill prohibing Bitcoin private keys from Courts on: February 17, 2023, 10:09:53 AM
I am really just reading it as:
Paragraph 1 = You cannot be forced to hand over your private keys.
Paragraph 2 = unless we say so.

It's good in theory, but I can see it being challenged as soon as someone tries to hide some funds and all of a sudden you are forced to produce private keys just to prove they are not related to some address.

-Dave

Excellent summary! That's exactly what it is!

Why a government would be so concerned about the privacy of its citizens? These kinds of laws are just eyewash, not to be believed or to be taken seriously!

Usually, a person will be forced to declare his/her private key only if they are being prosecuted by any government department, especially IRS. So they can't be protected under this bill. So it doesn't really make sense!

937  Economy / Economics / Re: does bitcoin help in your economy? on: February 17, 2023, 03:27:03 AM
there are many people investing in bitcoin, some are profitable and some are losing. and I believe bitcoin has a big advantage. The question is whether when you benefit from bitcoin, you can help your economy and your family?

Bitcoin or any other cryptos can surely help the economy by increasing the purchasing power of the people. Those who have invested in bitcoin and are currently in profit can surely use that extra money to buy things from their local market either by using bitcoin or by fiat after converting it. That's the only way bitcoin and other cryptos can help the economy.

The other way to help is through taxes. There are a lot of people including me, who like to do the taxes diligently. So whatever extra earning they get from bitcoin, they calculate tax on it and pay to the government. That's another way but the numbers are insignificant.
938  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More Awareness needed, 100$ or Bitcoin??? on: February 16, 2023, 04:54:08 PM
Came across this video in which a person questions whether they prefer to take 100$ or Bitcoin. The kids never took time, all of the sudden chosen 100$. I'm not specific about the location this had taken place, but it looks like they're are Western people. This makes me think, awareness is not upto the mark and in all means we need to educate people. Even the Western young generation unaware of it is really unbelievable.

100$ or Bitcoin

Even though this one looks staged, a lot of young generation people do not know anything about bitcoin. At my office, out of 84 people in my team, I have found only 3 person knows about bitcoin. What's sad is that most of them are in their mid-20s. If this age group doesn't know about bitcoin even after being in IT industry for a couple of years, how would you expect any random teenager will know about it?

Many governments are actively trying to bar bitcoin related information from reaching out to their citizens. They are also forcing banks to send out mass mailers stating bitcoin is a scam. So the result is quite expected!
939  Local / India / Re: Bisq Market Day - March 20th 2023 on: February 16, 2023, 04:12:55 PM
Even though Bisq has added INR trading pair, I see no offers available there! With the unfortunate closing down of localbitcoins and localcryptos, I expected BISQ to have some offers. Still, unfortunately, INR trading section is not at all active and has no offers yet. I have tried checking at different times but the result is the same.

Also with such a non-custodial and non-kyc exchange, there's always a considerable risk of dirty money being pushed to the accounts of commoners like us. It seems the only option for Indians will be to use Indian exchanges like Wazirx, Bitbns etc. going forward. Not really a favorable time for Indians in the crypto market.
940  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin DCA - always same amount or do you change depending on price? on: February 16, 2023, 10:25:42 AM
Hello all,

I currently have 0.08 BTC at an average price of $19000 and just wondering what everyone does when we have pumps like we are currently seeing.

I feel I have a great average currently but now that it has shot up to $24,600 buying now will increase my average price quite a lot.

I usually DCA weekly but thinking I may miss this week and buy more once we have another pullback.

Just wondering what everyone else does, do you buy the same amount each time or less as its more expensive?

It's always good to keep your eyes open while doing DCA. So I wouldn't suggest you to invest same amount in all market conditions. Rather, invest more when the price is less than your average buying price and invest less when it is higher. That's the wisest route to take.

Because if you keep investing same amount when the price is higher, you will risk increasing your average price. So play slow when the market is higher than your average buy price.
