81  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 27, 2013, 12:48:08 AM
I received the chips from Zefir for batch 3 and up.
I have not received boards from Sebastian's Batch yet.

Once the chips are in hand of my contractor there is not much i can do to accelerate things.
And this week they were down to 1 Machine because of maintenance.
I initially arranged to use 2 contractors simultaneously, to deal with the large number of boards.
The chip refunds cut the board volume to less then half, I had to scale the operation down to reduce costs.
That also included the shipping contractor.

Regarding bitfury:
I have an exclusive agreement with cryptx until mid October.
Revenue i get on that deal will end up in the refunds.
My 50% refund offer exceeds my current available financial resources.
(all Paypal payments are unavailable)
The refunds are currently suspended because of that.
But I will stand by my word and carry out the 50% as soon as i can.

To any of the "he gets rich" screamers - revenue of this venture so far: about -20.000eur + 4 Months of Work.  Undecided
Not that those people will believe any of my words.
82  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 20, 2013, 11:25:05 AM
Hey burnin when do you start building the avalon miners from the recieved batch?

Do you wait till the last avalons arrived or did you even start... time is BTC u know Wink

And btw I send you an email cause my chip distributor changed a little bit hope you recieved it and that should not a big deal

I took Sebastians chips to my contractor yesterday was able to get a time-slot on the machine right away. (unlike Zefir Batch 2 where i had to wait)
That time-slot ends later today, with a little luck all boards will be done with smt assembly then.

hex brass standoffs

Ok, but what to i put on the floor in order to have better stability?

You could use a thick steel plate as base for the boards in which you screw the standoffs.
Other possibility: lay the stack down sideways.
83  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 19, 2013, 10:45:45 PM
I get about 48 hours before mine crashes. Running cgminer 3.4.2

My test-stack of 16 boards has now an uptime of ~2 Weeks without cgminer restart.
But i am using a rather old version of cgminer.

btw: news in the B'Fury thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=283992

Shipping of Batch 2 is under way, i am too busy to put in tracking numbers (will add them later).
84  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Poll] Burnins BitFury miner on: September 19, 2013, 10:40:47 PM
I don't even have time to read the forum anymore.   Undecided

Anyway have some PCB Pr0n:

85  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 18, 2013, 03:02:49 PM
I put the boards back in stock in case anyone wants still needs some.

Batch 2 is completely done and is currently being shipped.
Big orders take a bit longer because i have to put them through customs.
The maximum batch 2 delivery has been delayed by the Bitfury development is 3 days.

Transfers of whole orders are possible.
86  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] Avalon ASIC Chips (SebastianJu) Batch 6 ordered (Closed) on: September 18, 2013, 12:06:43 PM
If you see him, tell him the loyal customers still believe in him, and feel sorry for all the administration mess it turned into (refunds, cryptx)

At least it adds some counterweight to the people who started reading about burnin later and didn't experience the full journey from the beginning. Since they only know the messy side

Yes, agreed. Please let him know that he still has the support and respect of the majority (I hope) of us.

Thank you for your kind words, i will make some explanatory announcements soon.
Currently i am in a rush to get Batch 2 shipped and your batches manufactured + finish the bitfury development.
But for those who still want/need the old boards, i will put them back in stock.
87  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Bitmine CoinCraft 28nm chip distribution (December W50, 42.5BTC/THps) on: September 16, 2013, 12:35:04 AM
Interesting alternative in the 28nm league.
I will be watching.

We know that we're tight with the time but we will publish every document as soon as it will be available. The coming week we'll work on the FPGA chain prototype that will have exactly the same frontend code as the ASIC, that would be enough to start to work on the drivers. The IC packaging house is also finishing the drawings of the custom IC package that we'll use on the A1. This will make things a bit more challenging than a simple QFN, but we wanted a custom design built from scratch to withstand the specific characteristics of a bitcoin mining chip while still being cheaper than QFN.

will the package be flip-chip or qfn like dissipating into the board?

88  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 15, 2013, 10:10:41 PM
i had the chips running at 4ghash in my test setup.
With a proper board more could be possible, more testing is needed.
And like i said the actual costs did increase.
89  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 15, 2013, 10:02:01 PM
The 470eur was an early estimate, part costs increased as the design continued.
I am not involved in the pricing of the BitBurner Fury units, i kept my margin reasonable as usual.
I will speak to them if costs at their end can be cut.
90  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 12, 2013, 11:10:19 PM
Anyone else have chips shipped to Burnin 2 weeks ago as part of Zefir's Batch 2 and are waiting on a response from Burnin? The only updates I have seen from him are about how he has been processing refunds and working on Bitfury project. Has anyone heard anything about the Zefir Batch 2 chips that were sent to Burnin?

I've tried contacting via forum, PM, email. nothing..

They are all finished now and i should receive them tomorrow.
To get shorter manufacturing time i need reliable AND exact information when i will receive the chips.
But as german customs were involved this time there was no way to know when i would receive them.
My contractor received the chips on Monday last Week, actual manufacturing began on Thursday that week.

My manufacturing partners offer short reaction times in comparison to the rest of the industry but i can't afford to have the machines rigged up and waiting for the Avalon chips.
The machines have to be rigged up prior to assembly, that takes time and costs money.
Also if i have the machine standing still waiting for a chip delivery that would cost me per hour.

More interesting would be the migration of the Bitburners to the 55nm chips.

@burnin
I know you can't tell us if its possible as long as there are no specs released,
but would you be willing to put in some effort if it would only include to change
the software part to the existing hardware layout?

I poses a preorder of some chips and i intended to hold them, but with this
whole PR stunt of some 400 thousandish chips which we will probably not
even get the slightest glimpse of, plus the announcement of their 55nm
chips, i am seriously considering getting rid of my chips.
Would be a nice bonus if you could recycle the boards to next-gen and
of course my orders with them Grin

Only if the chips are pin and protocol-compatible it would be possible to use the old boards for them.
(Maybe even remove the old chips and replace them for the delivered ones)
But i think those chips will have a different pinouts/interface/package.

Also with the Cointerras on the horizon i also doubt the Avalon 55nm chips will be available fast enough to compete with them.
Additionally we already have 55nm chips available to us NOW, those are the Bitfurys.

My Roadmap:
end of September to November - Bitfury 55nm
from early January 2014  - CoinTerra - 28nm

Regarding the BitBurner XX -> Bitburner Fury process:
CryptX will provide the chips.
Migrated customers will be able to order before the public.
ETA of the boards: early October.
91  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 05, 2013, 03:15:16 AM
I would like a clear satement from Burnin how he wants to handle those orders that
wish to convert to the Bitfury chips.  Are we to place all new orders with a distributor?
How will the 70% refund from the Bitburners applied?  I would hope that Burnin shows
the same loyalty that he receives from us customers who are willing to work with him,
and handles these trade-ins himself ot at lest makes sure that these customers are
taking care properly.  Otherwise would what be the point in not requesting a full refund
now?  Burnin, I posed this question now several times and I would appreciate a reply.

I have not yet responded to that because i have not decided that yet.
Just to make one thing clear here:
if i do Bitfury boards or am able to sell the components/boards everyone will get those extra 20% (or even more) back.

And the reason for no full refunds is very simple: that money is gone,
or more precisely it is lying around in form of electronic components/boards/heatsinks/fans/mounting brackets/screws/cables.
This is a single purpose venture, no other branches from where money for a full refund could come from.
And it is in your interest to keep it alive so am able to liquidize those assets back into money.
Oh and don't get the false impression the other 50% is my margin, the 50% are just the material costs
on top of that comes labor for assembly.
92  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 03, 2013, 03:47:52 PM
To clarify how to apply for a refund:
Just send an email stating you want one.
But i need to extra Informations:

Order number(s) > very important, saves me from having to look it up.

In case of paypal thats all.

If you paid via bank wire, i will need the IBAN and BIC to send the refund to.

Now to the most difficult case: Bitcoin
I have bitpay configured to Pay me directly in Euros so i never really received any Bitcoins directly.
To issue a refund through them i need to give them Bitcoins.
That means i have to buy BTC first to be able to refund the bitpay payments.
For all EU customers a SEPA refund will be faster and easier for me.
If you want BTC, i will refund BTC.
Please note that the current bitpay eur<->btc exchange rate at the time the refund takes place will be applied.
And don't forget to provide me with the BTC address to refund to.
93  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 02, 2013, 08:51:02 PM
@ Burnin

Instead of trowing away the pcb's. Why u dont accept assembly orders for cancelled ones?
Seems enough peoples, have chips, but no order by you.

I have 320 chips in SebastianJU's Batch 1, that needs an assembly.

Whats the solution?
Sharing between the users and changing the delivery adresses?
So we create a win-win-win situation.

Or we can place orders for already ordered Chips?
refunds with losses, trowing away pcb'etc.

Or you stop totaly with the orders.
And all will loose...

Thx
Mastah

Changing around all the existing orders will be more work then accepting new ones for the people that have chips but no boards.
I still accept orders for the avalon based bitburners for a short while, that statement mainly refers to future board generations.
And It is possible to sell orders that have not been refunded to someone else.
94  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Poll] Burnins BitFury miner on: September 02, 2013, 02:24:58 AM
See this post for lastest information: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179769.msg3060806#msg3060806

I will need about one week of development time to verify my design.
95  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 02, 2013, 02:22:38 AM
Not really. It is an assembly with a prefinished product. Last time I heard such a discussion and it went to court it was specifically important that the product is specifically made for the client, that is after his wishes, and cannot be sold without loss to anyone else.
Lets highlight this passage:
"and cannot be sold without loss to anyone else"
This is exactly the case here because no one would want buy these boards anymore.

As we say: In German Courts and the high sea, you are in the hands of chance.
precisely

announcement:
I won't be selling to end-users anymore.

Reasons:
  • Time. I want to provide you with BitFury and CoinTerra mining boards for which i need lots of development time.
  • Development and Manufacturing of electronic devices is my main qualification, not running an online-shop
  • I failed to provide adequate customer service.
Some of you never heard back from their requests.
  • The last 3 month i worked 7 days a week all day long.
This is slowly beginning to take its toll

Consequences:
  • I will continue to develop and build mining devices.
  • These will be exclusively sold in large quantities to distributors.
  • existing orders will be processed and delivered or refunded.
  • For the upcoming Bitfury Boards i am negotiating with a 3rd party to manage the end-user sales.
But i am open to anyone interested that has the infrastructure to handle it.

Further refund information:
I thought long and hard about this whole mess we're all in.
And i am NOT content with the current model.
50% refund is all i can offer >NOW< without going instantly bankrupt.
I plan give back more, if i can.
Therefore any reuse or resale of the remaining components will be refunded. (You bought these with your money after all)
That means you do not need to buy bitfury boards from me in order to get those extra 20% back.
If you can wait until then it could be sent in one transaction.  (about 2-4 weeks to wrap everything up)

I value fairness above most other things like profit for example.
That goes both ways, and almost all of you are upright honorable people which i am deeply grateful for.

To you paypal disputers: i hope you can accept the proposed solution.

96  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 01, 2013, 01:22:06 AM
What hash rate are you able to get your bitburner to? I'm trying to find a decent cgminer setting

After many tests it looks like these are my best settings: 28ms, 450MHz, 1334mV, target temp 30°C and it runs with 53°C giving in average 43.8GH which means 8.76GH per bitburner xx.

I would like to run 5 miners with 5 different settings to test it out but till now i still wait for the answer if its possible to do without the first cgminer finding all miners and using them all.

Running each board with individual settings is rather complicated at the moment.
Each would need to have a individual USB connection to the host.
To do that you would need to disable hot-plug detection in cgminer.
Then connect one miner launch one cgminer instance connect the next board, launch next cgminer and so forth.
But i am sure Kano can be more specific on how to achieve this.
97  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: August 30, 2013, 12:23:20 PM
Burnin,

Have you received Batch 2 chips from Zefir?

Out of necessity a new thread for a new product:
I want to test the waters if you would be interested in such a board

The Bitfury design i am working on is a 16 Chip board with the same form factor as the BitBurner.
I think it makes sense that i will sell boards including the chips now - no more group buys.

Best demonstrated performance per chip is currently 2.7Ghash resulting in 42ghash/s per board.
I am aiming for 5 Ghash per chip, i will be doing things differently then the competition which will hopefully
allow us to squeeze more performance out of this silicon.
Host interface and Controller / stacking will stay the same.

Price: ~470eur+vat (Complete module including chips)
Delivery: early October if Punin delivers on time.

100  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: August 29, 2013, 11:55:44 AM
First of all of you should wait and see if the group buys can get a refund from avalon.
If not mining with the board is the better option to get a large portion of the investment back.

True but I think than he has to work out a good solution for both - him & clients. This "offer" is just a business for him not the community.
European business have to fullfill a lot of laws when selling to private clients. The TOS are illegal in Germany as I know (but I am now lawer) as consumers are protected hard - this was no B2B business at all.

Quote §312d BGB
Code:

For everyone that seeks trouble:
You ordered a board, you'll get a board.
if you fail to provide Avalon chips it will be missing those, have fun with it.
