61  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Too late to get rich? on: March 21, 2013, 11:44:19 PM

There are countless examples of people jumping into something expecting to become rich and walking away with nothing. Here are a few recent well-known examples: gold and silver in 1980, day trading in the 1990's, the dot-com bubble, the housing bubble, and bitcoin in 2011.

Are you kidding? Tons of people got rich off of gold and silver, day trading, dotcom mania and housing (and now bitcoin!) The people that did not either did not get in early enough or made bad decisions.

we could have possibly posted here or elsewhere but without full details it could possibly have made people more worried

Speaking for myself, I would much rather have had you come on here periodically and say that you were still having (fill in the blank) problem and that you were working on it than having nothing and wondering if I was even going to get my money back from you.  Next time you might consider that...just sayin'.

Was this not enough?

If you read posts in thread for the past few weeks you will see that this was definitely not enough, not only for me but for many many others.

C'mon....you had the "site upgrade" on your site for a good while before you came and admitted you had been hacked.

"there wasn't time to update people until after we were in the clear and as soon as we had all the information and were able to give the proper and full details our customers and the general public deserve we did so."

There wasn't time to come on here and write a short note explaining what was going on to the dozens or hundreds of people with money tied up? I find that hard to believe. You all were absent on this thread for something like an entire week! If you had just come on here and explained yourself you could have kept the confidence of many of your customers who have fled for coinbase, bitfloor and other services. Speaking as a customer you really blew it and I'm sure most here would agree...

Haven't visited this thread for a bit. Gareth I see that bitinstant has decided to once again offer support on their official support thread, but larger questions remain. Why was bitinstant a complete no-show on here for some time when people were having a major crisis with orders? Why did the bitinstant site say that some services were down due to site upgrades when this was an obvious lie? Why wasn't bitinstant more transparent about what was going during your company's crisis? Your company been so maligned during this whole thing and while a lot of it is due to money being delay, a lot of it could have been avoided has you just been more open and honest about what was really going on, both on your site and on here.

Bitinstant was always my favorite way to get bitcoin, but I am very reluctant to use your service again and I'm sure many feel the same way. What do you say about all of this?

66  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Moving the wallet.dat file on: March 12, 2013, 05:17:33 PM
Thanks adding that to the shortcut did the trick. To the encryption question, I just want to put the whole thing in a truecrypt container so there is no trace on my computer and no way a hacker could access it while the drive is not mounted.

"Or just add the -w /... part to the launcher (on Windows)"

Sounds great but not sure how to do this? I did look around online but can't find out how.

thanks,

I've installed electrum on a truecrypt disk. However it is still putting the wallet on the unecrypted c drive. Is there any way to put this on the encrypted drive too?

I have to say I agree with Jordan. I wrote to them last week and asked if they were up and running again and if an order would go right through. Got an email back in 3 minutes that said yes so I put in a $300 order. Just got the funds today after repeated emails with no response. In the meantime their page for the last week would make you believe they are open for business and apparently many people did in fact get their bitcoins within a few days while my order was "stuck".

I disagree with the above poster saying this is "free market at it's finest" and that they're just doing their best. Their best would be to be to not make promises they can't deliver or take orders they can't fulfill without at least warning people about it. Their relative silence on this board and reddit makes me distrust them. In addition I lost roughly 25% from the market rally this past week on that $300. They didn't have anything to say about that.  Booooo!  Angry

Got 50,000 in the giveaway. Now I logged in and have a 0 balance. When I click history it says that I am offline. wtf?

You totally screwed up your title. What you said is "Ripple's gone", which means "Ripple is gone", which anybody scrolling through the subjects would think that Ripple had disappeared and everybody using Ripple is now screwed. But what you meant to say is "Ripples gone" or "Ripples're gone" which means that the ripples are gone. Stop spreading FUD and use correct grammar in your subject line!

No reason to be a dick about it.

Thanks for the offer...I got a pretty good response to this already and I'm entertaining offers as low as 5%.
Looking for someone steady!

73  Economy / Currency exchange / Looking for Steady Bitcoins for Moneypak Trade on: March 05, 2013, 07:45:49 PM
In my biz, I get moneypak refills and would like to accept more of them. Looking for someone who needs moneypak regularly and can exchange for btc on a regular basis. All moneypaks will be freshly bought with cash and fully legit. I need:

1) A reasonable exchange rate
2) Quick turnaround within 24 hours
3) Someone with an established rep
4) Can handle quantity...think thousands of USD per day. Less to start but will grow fast

If you're interested in discussing this, PM me.

Signed up for your site but when I logged in and hit the deposit tab nothing happened (none of the tabs worked). Using the latest version of firefox.

Also you should really consider losing that hard to read, blocky font used throughout your site. It's very unprofessional looking.

An $8 charge for a $50 card? I'm looking for something like this but 16% seems a little high!
78  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Official Newbie BitInstant Support Thread (Active Customer Support) on: March 03, 2013, 11:54:38 PM

Seems to me like Bitinstant is in the process of stealing all of our btc/usd/etc. I have gotten very rude responses when asking about my coin that i no longer have access to, and the fact that nothing i sent through bit instant as of thursday or friday has gone ANYWHERE besides in their pockets. Red Flags all around! BEWARE!

Nah they're not going to steal anything...just delays. This happened to me when this whole thing started and the funds came through in a bout 8 days. It'll all come through. Still I don't see how they can have had their web site up taking orders with this kind of delay...maybe it'll all be straightened out by monday when their site is supposed to be back up.

Just create a Mt.Gox account if you don't have one if Bitinstant is more 'ready' to send you your funds there.   Really, it takes 5 minutes with no verification required.   Then convert to BTC and withdraw to whatever exchange you are using.   Keepin' it simple.

Smiley

I'd be cautious about using mt gox unless you are prepared to verify your id...they have a habit of randomly asking for it and will freeze your funds until you deliver. Not saying this will happen for sure but there is a chance..

It is very telling that there has been no announcements at all on here by yankee. Very stupid move on their part. To maintain their credibility all they had to do was be more honest and upfront about what's going on and give realistic dates. Instead this has turned into a total fiasco for them as many people will never use their service again. Who will step into the gap with straight-to-bitcoin service? There is ziggap, but they seem to be a bit erratic as well. Bitfloor seems OK but they are very clear that anonymity is not to be expected...Tough business to be in I guess.
